Palmetto Challenge Winner for May 14th, 2008
2008-05-14 14:00:00
Alas, I found my inbox depressingly empty of submissions for the Palmetto State Challenge this week. My initial dismay turned to delight when I realized I was in the driver’s seat and had a perfect excuse to surf the web for a while to find my own nominations. And it didn’t take long ...

Tasty Augusta Lunch Spots
2008-05-13 00:54:00
To my husband’s chagrin, I love to eat lunch out! Yes, it is more economical to eat left overs or carry a sandwich, however there is just something about a great local lunch I just cannot get enough of. Combine that with good company that makes this midday meal my favorite. So ...

Palmetto State Challenge - Inaugural Winner
2008-05-07 14:00:00
Now the time is finally here to note the first running of our Palmetto State Challenge . I had some trouble getting the word out, and had a few bloggers promising to send submissions that didn’t - and you know who you are ;-). As a result, I had a pretty short list to choose from. ...

Seven Gables Restaurant Review (The Palmetto House)
2008-05-04 17:38:00
The Palmetto House is an upscale restaurant set in the beautifully restored Seven Gables lodge, and features wonderful ambience and excellent food. Friday evening, the missus and I took dinner at the recently restored and re-opened Seven Gables, now known as the Palmetto House. The exterior is beautiful- the lodge has a English Georgian look ...

I don’t plan to regularly post these, but hey, you gotta post ‘em when you find ‘em. Next up in the lousy listing photos category is this little gem: You guessed it. It’s the only photo provided in the MLS entry. I really feel sorry for these sellers. I just purchased a new Canon ...

A Concise History of Aiken, South Carolina
2008-04-30 00:12:00
Aiken was founded in 1833 by William Aiken, president of the South Carolina Canal and Railroad Company. The Railroad was just completing a rail line from the port of Charleston to Hamburg (now North Augusta) SC, and the newly minted town was a stop along the way. At that time, the railroad was ...

The naming of Clarks Hill Lake. Or is it Thurmond Lake?
2008-04-23 12:34:00
The body of water now known as ‘J. Strom Thurmond Lake ’ has a convoluted tale surrounding it’s name that is almost stranger than fiction. Would you believe that of the 50-odd years it has been in existence, it’s been known by multiple names? The Era BTL (Before the Lake) The area destined to contain the ...

I love good content, especially about the latest real estate trends. But the only problem is, it sure is hard to find it! I enjoy writing about real estate, but it takes such a long time and I find that for my own writing, any more than one quality post or two a week can ...

Airing out the Laundry: 5 Things your Real Estate Agent probably doesn?t wa
2008-04-21 14:02:00
The Real Estate Industry has a pretty slimy reputation. And I’ll be the first to agree with that assessment- and you know what? I think a lot of professional real estate agents would agree! There are lots of reasons for this. For one thing, most states have very lax rules on ...

Augusta GA Real Estate Market Report - April 7, 2008
2008-04-07 17:25:00
This is as a good a time as any for a market report. My last report was the middle of December of last year, which saw single-digit increases in unsold inventory in every market area I looked at. Since we have now concluded the 1st quarter 2008, a comparison to those older numbers ...

Monday Morning Masters Mayhem
2008-04-07 13:41:00
Life in a town that hosts a ‘Major Sporting Event’ like the Masters Golf Tournament can be fun and aggravating at the same time. The Augusta National course is absolutely breathtaking. But even though Master’s tickets are the hardest passes in all of sports to get, the massive crowds and snarling traffic ...

Realtor Raves for Keller Williams Augusta
2008-04-05 13:48:00
I am pretty new to the Keller Williams Realty office- however I have to give them some raves. When I sit in their team meetings, sometimes it is like listening to a different language. They use a lot of acronyms, just like the military (MREA , 80/20, and 4-1-1!) but I am learning what some of them mean. They also use a lot of odd terms like an ‘aha’ and ‘fill someone’s bucket.’ That leads to my first rave: Rave #1: ‘Fill someone’s bucket’ I have to give the office a rave about the fill someone’s bucket term. It’s a term used for an opportunity when individuals can compliment or thank one another for something great they did. This can range anywhere from passing a test, to helping someone with a contract. Never have I sat in a room of Realtor s and seen people actually congratulate someone for something (other than making the most money!) It is such a nice and welcome atmosphere. So to the person who created the ide...

A day in the life of Lydia Taylor
2008-04-03 14:30:00
Many people wonder what in the world a real estate agent does all day…well here is a day I had last week. Knowing ahead of time it was going to be busy, I took notes because I decided to blog it! 7:30 a.m. Already showered, shined, and ready to go! I jumped into my Honda and I was off! I was headed to a house that was in need of a termite inspection. I had to meet my client and the termite guy to make sure that the home was termite free. 8:00 a.m. Arrived at the house - the termite guy had already begun his inspection of the exterior. I was merely there to open the house and as a full service real estate agent I like to be present in case I was needed for anything. 8:30 a.m. The inspection was finished and the house was termite free! I bid the termite guy and my client a good day, and I was off to my next destination. 8:45 a.m. I arrived at a Realtor’s house to go over a pending deal and to pass a few minutes while I waited to go to my next appointment. 9:15 a....

I’m moving my shingle to Keller Williams!
2008-04-02 03:13:00
If you have noticed the new logos on my main site at www.NorthoftheSavannah.com, you might have deduced I am making the move to Keller Williams Realty. Keller Williams is the 4th largest real estate brokerage in the nation. So while I’m moving away from the largest brokerage in local terms (Meybohm Realtors) I’m moving to a big fish in the rest of the world. What does that mean to everyone that I have been working with, and will work with in the future? Nothing really. You will still get the same level of service and dedication that I have always tried to give. This decision for me to make the switch from the area’s largest firm to Keller Williams was not an easy decision. I left behind some really great friends and workmates and in some ways it breaks my heart to move on. Everyone at Meybohm - I wish you all the best, and we’ll still get to do plenty of work together in the future, I’m sure. In other ways, I could not be more excited about the ...

There?s gold in them there Hills (Belvedere Ridge, that is)
2008-03-14 01:25:00
I’ve had the pleasure of listing a wonderfully updated 3 bedroom brick ranch home in the Belvedere Ridge section of North Augusta. The neighborhood is one of those quiet, older areas of North Augusta that makes living here so wonderful. The home has an in-ground swimming pool in the back, with a small detached workshop. ...

Earnest Money?what is it, and why.

Augusta GA - An Undervalued Real Estate Market
2008-02-04 17:42:00
In a survey of 100 real estate markets, localmarketmonitor.com (a real estate research firm) rated Augusta Ga has one of 13 ‘undervalued markets’ when comparing historical real estate values to the equilibrium or ‘expected’ home value. They compared Augusta GA’s average home selling price of $173,400 to the expected value of $204,700- yielding a result that ...
