University of Michigan Building Continues
2007-12-20 07:50:00 Recently, plans for two new building projects were approved by the U of M Board of RegentsThe Board of Regents recently approved two new building projects at the Univers ity of Michigan - a $102 million expansion of the Law School and a $51 million data facility for the University hospitals and health centers. Next on the wish list are a $175 million biology building, a $133 million renovation of the GC Brown Laboratory Building and a $122 million health sciences building. The law school expansion is the third historical and major expansion to the law quadrangle, but the first to actually add much needed classroom space. Plans include a 100,000 sqft building just south of the law school and a 16,000 student commons on the south side of the Law Quad. The new 47,000 sqft data center is slated to be built on North Campus with a unique wind/tornado resistant design. Officers have high hopes that the new building will meet future hospital needs. Dexter, Michigan Victorian Christmas December 2007 was a Success
2007-12-18 06:00:00 Dexter is a living, breathing, and growing community environment ; The community tree lighting began Friday at 7pm. The merchants stayed open late to spur shopping. Saturday there was a breakfast with Santa Claus at the Bear Claw, food drive with music at Foggie Bottom, lunch with Mrs. Claus at the Alpha Coney Island and a meeting with her at Dexter Pharmacy II at Dexter Crossing. Children visited and sat with Santa under the gazebo. From noon to 4:00 pm ice sculptures were designed and placed throughout downtown. Ice sculptures were provided by Marin Folk with 20 years experience. The one featured below was sponsored by Dr Kolb, DDS of Dexter Family Dentistry and another pictured was sponsored by Matt Rolfes, financial planner in Dexter. Cottage Inn Pizza will be the first to occupy this multi-tenant redevelopment dubbed the Wallace Building . Originally a family-owned grocery store, this building has been in the Wallace family for 35 years. Recently renovated, the old has been replaced with a new facade, new landscaping and completely new interior units with separate tenant entrances. Commercial suites range from 1,938 - 2,573 sqft. Aside from the Cottage Inn space, five other units will be available. Cottage Inn hopes to boost sales 20-30% with the move to this new (and larger) dine-in location. 2007-12-13 05:20:00 Despite several setbacks, Ann Arbor development remains strongJoseph Freed and Associates is sucessfully moving forward with several new downtown commercial and residential Ann Arbor projects. Once dubbed Citi Center Lofts and planned for condominium fame, the student housing apartments at the corner of Washington and South Division will now be called 4Eleven Lofts. The project began with a demolition of a building on site this summer. 4Eleven Lofts will be marketed as upscale student rental housing. JFA reports sales are slow but not at all disappointing. Ashley Terrace, located at the corner of Ashley and Huron Streets, is slated to open by the end of 2007. Retail is planned for the first floor with offices on the second and 99 condos above. It is located at8093 Main Street Dexter, Michigan 48130 (734) 426-4200. They feature casual elegant dining, with classic French and Italian influences. The fresh bread was good. And the pear salad was divine. I chose the veal, mushrooms, and asparagus with a glass of champagne. I was very happy with that selection. My husband said the beef was excellent. He finished his meal with a perfect crème brulee and a Spanish coffee. Our server, Lisa was very professional and quick. When we have a chance to return, we will. My only regret is that it is not open for lunch. 2007-12-09 04:15:00 Ann Arbor's city council has approved a new set of design guidelines that could be implemented as soon as springtimeCritics call them "too vague" and proponents site flexibility - will Ann Arbor's new design guidelines provide a palette for development that will stand the test of time? As recently as a month ago, the city council approved a new set of guidelines outlining details such as building height, roof materials, window type and design, and pedestrian layouts. Although guidelines have been determined they are not yet mandatory. Council members hope they will provide a great forum for developers and city planners to easily work toward final approvals. Local developer, Stuart Beal, believes Ypsilanti is ready, according to an excerpt from Crain's Detroit Business:Ypsilanti is ripe for investment. He [Beal] was behind the $3.5 million West Michigan Loft Apartments project that saw 20 luxury lofts built in five downtown buildings. "I think there's far less risk in investing in Ypsilanti than Ann Arbor based on percentage of return on investment,” Beal said. “You can buy real nice property with only $30,000 in Ypsilanti.
