Ann Arbor Development Projects Well Underway

Despite several setbacks, Ann Arbor development remains strongJoseph Freed and Associates is sucessfully moving forward with several new downtown commercial and residential Ann Arbor projects.  Once dubbed Citi Center Lofts and planned for condominium fame, the student housing apartments at the corner of Washington and South Division will now be called 4Eleven Lofts.  The project began with a demolition of a building on site this summer.  4Eleven Lofts will be marketed as upscale student rental housing.  JFA reports sales are slow but not at all disappointing.  Ashley Terrace, located at the corner of Ashley and Huron Streets, is slated to open by the end of 2007.  Retail is planned for the first floor with offices on the second and 99 condos above. So far about 60 units have been sold and interior upgrades are being planned.  Flagstar Bank is the only committed retailer to date. Dining at Bistro Renaissance in Dexter, Michigan this weekend

We enjoyed Dinner at one of our quaint restaurants in Dexter VillageThe Bistro Renaissance opened July 2007 for dinner.  It is located at8093 Main Street Dexter, Michigan   48130 (734) 426-4200.  They feature casual elegant dining, with classic French and Italian influences.  The fresh bread was good. And the pear salad was divine.  I chose the veal, mushrooms, and asparagus with a glass of champagne. I was very happy with that selection.  My husband said the beef was excellent. He finished his meal with a perfect crème brulee and a Spanish coffee.  Our server, Lisa was very professional and quick. Will New Ann Arbor Design Guidelines Help Downtown Development?

Ann Arbor's city council has approved a new set of design guidelines that could be implemented as soon as springtimeCritics call them "too vague" and proponents site flexibility - will Ann Arbor's new design guidelines provide a palette for development that will stand the test of time?  As recently as a month ago, the city council approved a new set of guidelines outlining details such as building height, roof materials, window type and design, and pedestrian layouts.  Although guidelines have been determined they are not yet mandatory.  Council members hope they will provide a great forum for developers and city planners to easily work toward final approvals. A seven-acre parcel near Broadway and Maiden Lane in Ann Arbor will be getting a face liftScott Chappelle, president of East Lansing based Strathmore Development Company , believes Ann Arbor still has some under served market segments that other developers are missing.  Namely medical/office and high-end residential rental space in the U of M medical campus area.  His Lower Town development will focus on medical offices, retail and apartments providing 138,000 sqft of retail space, 153,000 sqft of general and medical office space and a 760-car parking garage.  Generally the new development will include a financial institution, a real estate company, a coffee and pastry shop, medical offices and several restaurants.
