our greatest fears guarding our greatest treasures
2008-11-24 21:00:00 Our greatest fears arelike dragonsguarding our greatest treasures. - Rumi1.The great mystic, poet, theologian, scholar and above all a great lover of God, Rumi is never short of eloquence. Sometime his words open the doors of heart to illuminate and help us see the reality with a newer vision, sometime his words drown us with an unknown nostalgia and other times it's purely distilled wisdom for life. The above statement by Rumi where he speak the language of a psychoanalytic and nails to the point. Even without being an expert in psychology or in psychoanalysis one can still feel the pregnancy of meaning hidden in this aphorism of Rumi from the perspective of our depth psyche.2.According to psychologists, Fear is an unwanted, unpleasant feeling of anticipated or perceived risk or danger, whether it be real or unreal. Fear also can be described as a feeling of extreme dislike towards certain conditions, objects or situations such as: fear of darkness, fear of ghosts, etc.Inter... Om Mani Padme Hum | a sufic interpretation
2008-11-19 04:19:00 1."Om Mani Padme Hum" is one of the most recited mantra among all faith traditions combined. No matter where you see a buddhist monk or practitioner, whether in the remote deserts of mongolia or the zen monastery of california, every where in the world this mantra is found to be repeated. In Tibet there are adept monks to be found who chant it during all their waking hours as long as they live. The vibrational effect it produce when in a large hall of a buddhist monastery all the monk chant this mantra together is both tremendous and beautiful.2. Mantra of The Compassionate OneIn Tibetan Buddhism this mantra evokes the Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion and mercy which is also known by other names such as Avalokitesvara, Guan Yin (Kuan Yin), Padmapa-ni, and Lokes'vara. Interestingly enough Avalokiteshvara?s name means "The Lord Who Looks Down (in compassion)." the last teachings of Gautama Buddha
2008-11-18 19:16:00 Beneath the sala trees at Kusinagara, in his last words to his disciples, the Buddha said: "Make of yourself a light. Rely upon yourself: do not depend upon anyone else.Consider your body: Think of its impurity. Knowing that both its pain and its delight are alike causes of suffering, how can you indulge in its desires? Consider your 'self'; think of its transiency; how can you fall into delusion about it and cherish pride and selfishness, knowing that they must all end in inevitable suffering? Consider all substances; can you find among them any enduring 'self'? Are they not all aggregates that sooner or later will break apart and be scattered? The point of the teachings is to control your own mind. Keep your mind from greed, and you will keep your behavior right, your mind pure and your words faithful. By always thinking about the transience of your life, you will be able to resist green and anger, and will be able to avoid all evils. If you find your mind tempted and so entangl... The proclamation of 'Ana al Haqq' was controversially interpreted as his self-proclaim of divinity, and consequently he was executed for heresy charge at the hands of the Abbasid rulers. This charge was controversial because the proclamation in ecstasy of a mystic in his or her ecstatic... In the same way, it is possible for those who consider the states of the human soul and her soulish attributes, habitudes and character traits to deduce from these, through the craft of spiritual medicine, her deferred health and felicity or sickness and wretchedness.Know then, that with respect to people's outward states and sensory forms, God created them in the most beautiful form and the most beauteous state, just as God says: We indeed created man in the most beautiful stature (95:4). Tribute to Hafiz | Sufi Samuel L. Lewis
2008-11-08 03:56:00 "Hafiz!"What a joy to utter the name! What a thrill in the heart. I have never had a vision of him and hardly read a line of his poetry, yet - picture him and what do I see? Smiles! One big smile, bearing joy to all who greet him. He is like sunshine, bringing comfort and courage. In my days of darkness he was with me, guiding me, encouraging me, showing me the way, always smiling, always cheerful. When I look at the beautiful trees and pleasant meadows of sunny California, I picture him in his rose garden at Shiraz and feel that, had he not been born where and when he was, this country with its lovely scenery and beautiful weather would have brought inspiration to his heart, and ode upon ode would have resulted.Allons, Hafiz! Is there God in Buddhism?
2008-11-06 19:12:00 1.The answer to the often asked question, "Is there God in Buddhism ?" is first No and then Yes.Its definitely No for those who like to imagine God as an old man with long white beard living somewhere above the cloud in a place called Heaven. Buddha was not interested that petty, absurd personification. Nor he was for idols. In the time of Buddha (around 500 BCE) it was already a land where God ideal was filtered through limited imaginations and turned to man made idols. Buddha himself was big against idol worship and would strongly disapprove those who make and bowdown to his statues. Although many fragments of imagination of God ideal was there in his time, yet people were fighting over 'your God vs. my God' delusion (which still humanity as a whole hasn't really come out of even about 2500 years later). One can safely say that there is no idea of God in Buddhism when best people could do is to associated limited human attributes with the Divine and could not grasp the absolute ...

Guide of Halveti-Jerrahi sufi orderThe dreaming of the Prophet Muhammad , the Messenger of God holds very special status in Islamic tradition, both exoteric and esoteric. The Prophet himself has recorded (ref. Tirmidhi) to have said the following about seeing him in dream: "He who sees my hilye (description) after me, it is as if he had actually seen me, and he who sees it out of love and desire for me, God will forbid the fire of Hell to touch him. He will be safe from the trials of the grave, and he will not be sent forth naked on the day of resurrection."In 1981, Shaykh Muzaffer wrote brief autobiography in his book Unveiling of Love: Sufism and the Remembrance of God, where he mentioned about his profound dream of the Messenger of God, Muhammad, other Biblical Prophets and many of the chosen spiritual companions of Prophet Muhammad who attained highest degree of spiritual enlightenment. Buddha's prophecy about the survival of his original teachings
2008-11-03 17:26:00 1.After he was enlightened, Buddha was walking down a path and he was completely glowing. He was shining. He was effulgent. He was what sufis call "munawwara" (radiant, effulgent).A man came up to him and was so taken by the light, he asked, "Are you a celestial being, or a god"? He answered, "No". And then he said, "Well, then you must be a magician". "No"."Are you a man"? "No"."What are you"?"I am awake. I am pure light."2.The one who reached the awakened state, which eventually how he would be later known to world history, 'Buddha' (the word meaning the awakened one) - Siddhartha Guatama (563 - 483 BC) is recorded to have prophecied about how long his original teachings will last and that was 500 years.3.In the past, every new age the world is gifted with world teachers. In some religious tradition these world teachers are known as messengers, prophets or apostles. In other tradition they are called great sages, master teacher, avatars, paramavatars etc. No matter what they are... More About: Original , Prophecy , Survival

An Open Heart's Desire for Happiness
2008-10-30 21:00:00 1.The purpose of spiritual practice is to fulfill our desire for happiness. We are all equal in wishing to be happy and to overcome our suffering, and I believe that we all share the right to fulfill this aspiration. When we look at the happiness we seek and the suffering we wish to avoid, most evident are the pleasant and unpleasant feelings we have as a result of our sensory experience of the tastes, smells, textures, sounds, and forms that we perceive around us. There is, however, another level of experience. True happiness must be pursued on the mental level as well.If we compare the mental and physical levels of happiness, we find that the experiences of pain and pleasure that take place mentally are actually more powerful. For example, though we may find ourselves in a very pleasant environment, if we are mentally depressed or if something is causing us profound concern, we will hardly notice our surroundings. On the other hand, if we have inner, mental happiness, we find it ea... More About: Open , Happiness
