I love to make lists
2007-06-21 21:16:00
It's the perfectionist in me. I'm extremely organized. When I think of certain words my mind automatically associates a color, a number, a feeling, or another word to the word i'm thinking of. It could be a person, place, or thing. My mind is constantly going. :DSave the children. Teach them at home.

Evening walk
2007-06-21 04:19:00
We-the girls & I are off to take our nightly walk. We usually go between 9 & 9:30 p.m. I love taking walks at night. I always bring my cell with me even though it's pretty safe here in the village where we live. BUT you never know what could happen! It's 77 & there are many stars out tonight.Last nights walk: The moon last night was so cool. We saw something very strange in the sky as we came out of our home. 2 lights that looked like stars were following each other but weren't blinking like planes do! It was weird!! One followed the other & the girls & I have never seen anything so odd. Planes have their lights blink. Anyways, hubby said it may have been 2 planes close to each other at different altitudes & that's why we didn't see the blinking lights. Possible I suppose but weird!! I mean there was 1 big light-star in front & 1 small light-star directly behind! Can we say odd?!Take care & have a great night all. :)Save the children. Teach them at home.

For Elena & other Catholic mums
2007-06-20 22:23:00
Elena: I can not agree with you more Elena. If someone were bashing my belief system I would surely defend myself. Its like when parents of institutionalized kids start attacking me for homeschooling my children. Would I meekly sit by & let them talk down to me? NO. Not at all. I would speak up & I do. This is why I am so vocal about home education & spiritual issues. Just to name a few. When it comes to home education parents of institutionalized kids have no clue what they are talking about! They don't want to even listen to your point of view but you must listen to theirs cuz they're right & you're wrong! UGH!!Elena & other Cath olic mums: I understand & support Elena & the rest of the Catholic mums who have been bashed for their RC faith. I enjoyed Candys blog a lot until she started bashing Catholics. That's how I found Elenas blog. MDC is fabulous! I enjoy this blog as well. The Catholic bashing really bothered me. You know why? Cuz my roots are RC. I have ...

A nice reply to Freedoms

Elena said: Nice post! Thanks for weighing in!I said: TY! You are quite welcome. Being raised RC & all that I can see where you are coming from. I haven't turned my back on my RC roots. As for Candy & her blog I call 'em like I see 'em. :) I hope to see you comment more often. Now onto the reply I gave Elena on her blog My Domestic Church:I just don't understand how she (Candy) can claim to be an authority on so many things. And she does talk out of her * many times. I just don't understand...Where is the Christian love? Where is the love when she is bashing Catholics left & right? I know I have stated this many times on my blog that I am eclectic-spiritual-whatever you wish to say AND I do NOT bash others religions or beliefs. This is true cuz how else can I go to her blog & read it with an open mind & still stay sane?! I am tolerant of different paths. I don't get all pissy when someone doesn't agree with me or follow my path. If someone asked me an honest quest...

There seems to be a lot of ~religious belief~ bashing on blogs as of late. Bashing. That's my word for it. These bashings are turning into flame wars. It irks me that so many people who believe one way get upset with those who believe otherwise. It's like if you follow a certain spiritual path & and some one isn't following the same spiritual path then that person or YOU are wrong. I love to frequent many different types of blogs & websites on the net. I just don't understand how as home educators who love their children can have so much angst against other mothers & home educators. Not to be cliche, but can't we ALL just get along? You don't have to agree with everything you read on someones blog or site. I surely don't. You don't have to agree with everything I post or stand for. Make your OWN statements. Make up your own mind. Be a leader not a follower!I have said this many times on other blogs that I frequent: take what you like & leave the rest. It's that simple. ...

Adventures In Notebooking~New!
2007-06-18 19:41:00
I have immersed myself in this. I had my middle dd pick out 4 notebooks. Each a different color. This is how we labeled them:Green-Science/Nature JournalBlue-Geography/History/Social StudiesRed-Bible//Copywork/English/Spirit uality/WritingYellow-Math*Art & Music can fall under any of the above categories. I then had MoonWolf pick out 1 notebook for herself. She picked:Purple-Basics(I have her alphabet, numbers, shapes, colors, days of the week, & months in here so far.)Both girls will decorate the notebooks the way they like. We own a lot of crafty items so they can go to town with them & be totally creative!Since we are using the Rod & Staff curriculum, I will have my middle dd do her work in the appropriate notebook & add any extra schoolwork that we do into those notebooks as well.MoonWolf doesn't do her Rod & Staff curriculum in notebooks like her sister (yet) but she will have her extra fun schoolwork in the notebook. For example anything I print up from Enchanted L...

Not too happy today. That's all I can say. Meanwhile moving right along...It's 86 outside today. Found some cool copywork pages on the net. I printed them up for the girls so they can copy the info. Our middle dd will copy it straight into her into English notebook. While MoonWolf can copy easier ones into her Basics notebook that I put together for her. I am going to put up a post about our notebooking adventures & how we are doing them. Check back soon under the Rowan Forest Homeschool category on my side panel. Save the children. Whats for dinner?
2007-06-15 23:32:00
I made a pasta salad. There are many variations to this recipe. It's VERY good! It's simple & healthy to make:1. in a pan boil 2 bags of noodles2. in another pan boil fresh broccoli, carrots, & sea salt(I always have fresh veggies cut up in the fridge)3. when the noodles & veggies are done boiling drain & rinse4. put the noodles & veggies in a big pan5. add some cut up some chicken & tomatoes(roma are best I think)6. add parsley, oregano, garlic powder, & mayo(herbs can be either fresh or store bought. whatever you have on hand is fine.)7. mix well & serve!Save the children. Laines Letters~Godly women
2007-06-06 21:11:00
I thought this was GREAT from Laine s Letters : Here is my list of a godly woman in her many roles written in the back of my Bible. My gleanings are based on Proverbs 31, Ruth, some verses on women in Proverbs, 1 Peter 3:1-7, 1 Timothy 2:8-15 & 5:3-16, 1 Corinthians11:1-16, Song of Solomon, Psalm 113, 127, and 128, 1 Thessalonians 2:7-9, and Titus 2:3-5.She loves her First Love and her First Faith - Jesus Christ her LORD.She has inside strength through the Spirit of God for her Husband's honor. She rises before dawn, she cries for help, she hopes in His Word. She is a bearer of the children. She is a modest dresser. She is a worker of good. She has a gentle and quiet spirit. She is faithful and continues in the faith. She is loving - her LORD, her husband, her children, her home, and others- in godly, wise priority. She is holy - set apart for God's use.She is self-controlled.She is merciful to the poor. She excels at woman's work. She is submissive to her husband. She trusts in God.She looks...

Our homeschooling journey
2007-06-06 21:07:00
We started out using the Charlotte Mason Method, then we went to Unschooling after the birth of our youngest dd. Last spring we incorporated Montessori principles & made some of our own Montessori items for our homeschool. Check out the following site for a ~to die for~ classroom at home. WHOA!!!! Finally this past fall we started using the bible based curriculum Rod & Staff. We still at times take breaks & do some unschooling to prevent burnout from the curriculum. So far this plan has worked great!Even though we are using a curriculum at the moment, I still feel very eclectic in our homeschool. It keeps us on our toes that's for sure! Kids learn daily & life is an ongoing learning experience. There's so much out there to explore! Let me hear from YOU on what works in your homeschool & why. Save the children. Teach them at home.

Homeschooling in Wisconsin
2007-06-06 20:32:00
In Wisconsin we have a very favorable law. No testing, no teacher certification, no sending in a portfolio or having one approved. In Wisconsin we are considered a private school.Wisconsin law requires that a "home-based private educational program" (the term used in the law to refer to a homeschool) provide "at least 875 hours of instruction each school year" and "a sequentially progressive curriculum of fundamental instruction in reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science and health."Parents or guardians are required to file form PI-1206 with the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) notifying (NOT registering as the DPI states on their site) that the requirements of the law are being met.The Wisconsin Parents Association: Wisconsin Parents Association Join & Support The WPAWPAPost Office Box 2502Madison, WI 53701-2502Voice Mail 608-283-3131Wisconsin Department Of Public Instruction: Wi DPI Home *We have members of the Wisconsin Parents Association (WPA) since F...
