New LDS Apostle: Elder D. Todd Christopherson
2008-04-05 18:01:00
I've been really excited about General Conference this year for the last few months. It's been a long time since we've sustained a new prophet, and the Solemn Assembly is such a spiritual experience. I'm happy to sustain our new Prophet, Seer, and Revelator, Thomas S. Monson. It is, for me, an interesting experience to stand, alone in my bedroom, and sustain the prophet and leadership of the

Fast & Testimony Meeting - as a song!
2008-02-24 02:38:00
Someone shared this song with me today, and I thought it was hilarious. You gotta love a church that is confident enough to give anyone who can walk the chance to go up and speak from the pulpit once a month! Fast & Testimony Meeting Song Enjoy...
Mike Huckabee & his anti-Mormon Campaign
2008-02-16 17:14:00
I came across two articles recently about Mike Huckabee and members of the LDS Church. The first one I read was on The Politico: Utah's Mormon 's Loathe Huckabee. The second was in the Salt Lake Tribune: Huckabee scolds those who say he alienated Mormons. Well, I'm one of those Mormons that loathe you Pastor Huckabee, and since you seem to have amnesia about the reasons WHY I and other Mormons

Mormon Myths & Reality
2008-01-07 00:22:00
From the LDS Newsroom: A 10-minute video originally produced for the large number of journalists visiting Salt Lake City for the 2002 Winter Olympics has been updated and posted on Newsroom today to help counter persistent myths about the Church. Myths & Reality was developed as a primer on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was shown to a large gathering of NBC producers and

Can't go to your Local Mormon Temple?
2008-01-07 00:11:00
Next time you can't go to the temple, reflect on what these Saints in Cameroon went through to go to the Nigerian Temple shortly after its dedication in 2005.

Is Huckabee's official website becoming a Mormon tabloid?
2008-01-03 04:40:00
Decide for yourself. Here are some of the comments about Mormon ism that former-Baptist preacher Mike Huckabee is allowing on his website. Something tells me that's he's winning the bigot vote... Foy Stone: We wish someone would be bold enough to completely expose the strange beliefs of the mormon cult on national TV. If the public knew exactly what mormons believe (but don't want us to know),

Mormon Tabloids
2008-01-02 05:16:00
I've made a New Year's Resolution. I'm no longer going to refer to sites like CARM or ex-Mormon as "anti-Mormon websites." From this day forward, I will refer to them as the Mormon Tabloids. Why? Because that is what they are. While these Mormon Tabloid websites are not printed, they share many similarities with their namesakes, the Supermarket Tabloids. You know the ones that I mean: the
Joseph Smith's Poem - "The Vision" (from D&C 76)
2007-12-18 05:53:00
This poem, written by Joseph Smith, is largely based on the scriptures in Doctrine & Covenants Section 76. It was published in 1843. It was a response to a poem written by W. W. Phelps. I've included both poems here. Vade Mecum by W.W. Phelps Go with me, will you go to the Saints that have died-- To the next better world where the righteous reside? Where the angels and spirits in harmony be,

Who Do Mormons Believe Goes to Heaven and Hell?
2007-12-18 05:36:00
In order to understand the LDS theology of heaven and who goes where, you have to throw out any preconceived notions you have about the Christian heaven and hell. Simply stated, Mormons beliefs are different. In some cases, they are very different. Mormons believe that death occurs when the spirit leaves the body. After death, the body stays on earth (obviously), and the spirit goes to the "

Some Good Articles about Mormonism
2007-12-17 06:22:00
I came across a few great articles about the church today that I thought I'd share. The first one is from the History News Network and is entitled, "What Does Mormonism Mean to Mitt?" Here are a few excerpts: The point is that Mormonism is, as philosopher James Faulconer has described it, “atheological.” The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints lacks an official, or even semi-official,

Why are you a Mormon & are Mormon beliefs really crazy?
2007-12-16 18:16:00
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been put under a magnifying glass recently due to the presidential campaign of Mitt Romney. I've been following this campaign closely. As a Latter-day Saint, I've had mixed emotions. Sometimes I've been elated. Other times I've been depressed. Usually, I'm indifferent. A recurring theme I've noticed, especially on extremely liberal blog sites

Paul Edwards: Question Mormonism and you're a bigot?
2007-12-14 09:01:00
Paul Edwards over at Townhall.com posed the question of whether or not you're a bigot if you question Mormonism . The answer is obvious. Of course you're not a bigot if you ask questions about Mormonism. Mormons love to answer honest questions about their beliefs. If you really are curious, ask away! So, when are you a bigot for asking a question? I'd say that you're a candidate for a bigot if

Huckabee Questions Mormon Beliefs about Jesus & the Devil
2007-12-12 07:35:00
Huckabee, being the good Southern Baptist Preacher that he is, is again playing to the American ignorance about LDS theology to score political points. According to the AP, he is now posting the question: "Don't Mormon s believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?" This question is often posed by anti-Mormons, so it doesn't surprise me that Huckabee would ask it. He's already given a speech at

What do Mormons Believe about Jesus Christ?
2007-12-12 07:28:00
A lot of people ask what Mormons believe about Jesus Christ . In 2000, the leadership of the LDS Church issued a proclamation called "The Living Christ." I believe it is the best summary of who Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is. As we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ two millennia ago, we offer our testimony of the reality of His matchless life and the infinite virtue of His great atoning

Bill Keller: An Interview about Mormonism
2007-12-12 06:40:00
Bill Keller is one of the most powerful Evangelicals in the country. His comments in the New York Times came to my attention recently where he said: “[Romney's] candidacy alone has been a long infomercial for the Mormon cult As president he’s going to carry the influence of that office, not just here but worldwide, and there’s no denying it’s going to lead people to check out that religion,

Romney: "Freedom requires religion just as religion requires freedom."
2007-12-07 08:25:00
I found Mitt Romney 's speech today to be inspiring. It was the first time I can remember getting somewhat emotional when listening to a political speech since shortly after 9-11. Romney raised the level of discourse for the election, and I'm grateful he did it. Although I appreciated his speech, I was confused about one part. Romney said: Freedom requires religion just as religion requires

Do Mormons Believe in Jesus Christ?
2007-12-07 01:19:00
As always, I like to start with the short answers before I get into the details. The answer to the question of whether or not Mormons believe in Jesus Christ is easy – Yes, Jesus Christ is central to all Mormon doctrine and theology. Mormons believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is restored, New Testament Christianity. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Creator of the

Questions for Mike Huckabee
2007-12-04 02:10:00
It's no secret that Southern Baptists don't like Mormons and that Southern Baptist preachers teach their congregations about Mormons in order to prevent the flock from converting away. The Evangelical Christians have demanded that Mitt Romney give a speech on his faith in order to make them feel good about voting for a Mormon candidate. Now that Mike Huckabee , a Southern Baptist preacher, has

Romney to give speech on his faith
2007-12-03 01:07:00
I just came across an article from the New York Times stating that Mitt Romney would give a speech entitled "Faith in America" on Thursday this week. The paper reports that Mitt Romney will "share his views on religious liberty, the grand tradition religious tolerance has played in the progress of our nation and how the governor’s own faith would inform his presidency if he were elected." Do Mormons Wear Magic Underwear?
2007-12-01 19:13:00
The answer to this question is simple. No. Mormons do not wear magic underwear. Mormons who have attended the temple and made sacred covenants with God do wear a temple garment under their clothing. Calling the temple garment “magic underwear” is bigoted and offensive. It is reflective of a misunderstanding of what the garment represents. To a Latter-day Saint, the temple garment is very holy.

Mormons and the Bible
2007-11-30 07:11:00
Reporters don't often understand what it means to be a Latter-day Saint, and this comes across in their reporting. Michael Luo at the New York Times may be an exception. His blog post today commented on Mitt Romney's answer in the YouTube debate about whether or not he accepts every word of the Bible to be true. In his article, Lou outlined the Latter-day Saints' beliefs regarding the Bible - and

Buy American This Christmas
2007-11-29 02:54:00
I'm watching the Republican YouTube debate right now and love what Duncan Hunter just said. He recommended that everyone buy American this Christmas . I'm going to make it a goal myself and hope that people who read this will do the same thing. Let's support America and American workers and quit sending our money to China. Also, since I'm on the topic of Christmas, I've recently added a
God Doesn't Listen to Mitt Romney's Prayers?!?
2007-11-28 03:32:00
I learn something new every day. This is a new one. According to Glenda Gherkey, an evangelical from Iowa, she doesn't want Mitt Romney to be president because she's not sure that God will listen to his prayers. This is what the New York Times reported: At a recent Huckabee event in Iowa, Glenda Gherkey, an evangelical from Evansdale, posed a question to the candidate. “I’m concerned a lot of

Mormon Worship Services

The Church recently posted a press release that describes an LDS Worship service - with pictures!!! I just thought I'd let you know it was out there in case you wanted to pass it on to someone with questions. Here's a summary from the article: The chapel itself is a contemporary designed building with the name of Jesus Christ on the outside and pews for the congregation and a podium for

Mormon Lies
2007-11-21 05:30:00
These are some Mormon lies that are commonly spread among those who are unfamiliar with LDS Church teachings. 1. Mormons are not Christians - This is a lie. Mormons are Christians. We regard Christ as our Savior and Redeemer. He is the Son of God and a member of the Godhead. 2. Mormons practice polygamy - Mormons did practice polygamy in the past, but the practice was discontinued in the late

Southern Baptists Fail to Save Members from Mormons
2007-11-21 05:06:00
I just came across an article from Reuters through HotAir.com, where Richard Land, a leader of the Southern Baptist church, admitted that the SBC teaches its members about Mormons in order to keep them from converting to the LDS Church. The reason Romney faces difficulties with Southern Baptists , according to many experts, is his Mormon faith. Not only do many Southern Baptists regard the Mormon

Do Mormons believe that Jesus Christ and Satan are brothers?
2007-11-18 23:50:00
In order to properly understand the answer to this question, it is necessary to understand some basic LDS doctrines. The scriptures teach us that all men and women were born spiritually before they were born physically. This is why we call God our Heavenly Father. We believe we are quite literally spiritual sons and daughters of God. Before coming to earth, we lived together in a spiritual

David O. McKay & The Rise of Modern Mormonism - Book Review
2007-11-17 21:34:00
A few years ago, I regularly listened to a radio show with Jon Wright in Salt Lake City. He was a liberal (probably why his show didn't last too long in Utah) and a former, somewhat combative Mormon. Well, his dad wrote a book, and at the time I wasn't really interested in it. All I picked up from what he said on the show was that the book was about David O. McKay and it was controversial. I
