Milad-un-Nabi
2008-03-20 06:22:00
The Celebration of the Birth of Prophet Muhammad PBUHThe Hijri date 12 Rabi Awwal (some say 09 Rabi Awwal) is one of twelve months in the Islamic calendar. This is the Islamic birth date of the holy Prophet Muhammad p.b.u.h. He was born in 570 C.E.. and since the Islamic calendar is 354 days long, the Hijri date is pushed back up to 11 days each year. Muslims celebrate this occasion by holding Milad-un-Nabi (translated: birth of the prophet) functions and gatherings throughout the month of Rabi Awwal. The main thrust of these Milad-un-Nabi gatherings is to remember, observe, discuss and celebrate the advent of the birth and teachings of the holy Prophet Muhammad, p.b.u.h. Toronto is even home to an International Milad-un-Nabi conference which organizers have held every year for the past eight years. Speakers from all over the world have addressed large audiences here in Toronto for this conference. Various mosques and Muslim organizations will also hold their own celebrations at var...

Islam and Communism
2008-03-15 12:52:00
"As we have already submitted, Islam stands for all that is good, healthy and desirable in life. It is the religion for all times, generations and societies but as the Islamic world during the last four centuries has been in a state of constant depression, the portion of the Islamic law dealing with economic problems remained static. Why shouldn't we then adopt Islam as a creed to edify our souls and purify thoughts and embrace communism as the economic system to solve our economic problems as it would in no wise affect our social set-up or any aspect thereof. We shall thus be able not only to safeguard our morals, social traditions and customs but also have at the same time one of the most modern economic systems of the present times to-resolve our economic problems"The reasoning such as this given above is a part of the diabolical game the communists are out to play now since a long time. To begin with, they adopted an aggressive attitude towards Islam in the East and cast vario...

German Schools to offer Islam classes
2008-03-13 12:39:00
German education ministers and Muslim groups agreed to offer Islam classes at German schools in an effort to improve the integration of the growing Muslim population in German society. Officials seeking to open the Islam classes to non-Muslim students face hurdles in finding qualified instructors -- only 2.8 percent of Muslims in German high schools eventually graduate. It is belived that only about 120 Islam teachers are currently working in Germany -- one-eighth of the estimated number needed.

Islam and the Concept of Punishment
2008-03-13 12:16:00
Some people often say, "Can we apply today the same barbarous punishments which were applied long ago in the desert? Is it permissible to cut a thief's hand for five shillings? Could such things take place in the twentieth century, which regards the criminal as the victim of society and maintains that he is entitled to medical treatment rather than punishment?" How is it that the twentieth century permits the slaughter of forty thousand innocent people in North Africa but forbids the rightful punishment of one single criminal!!Woe to people from deceptive Words that often hide the truth!!So much for the twentieth century civilization and its evils. Let us discuss the concept of crime and punishment in Islam .Crime is often regarded as an individual aggression against the community. That is why the concept of crime and punishment is closely connected with a nation's concept of the individual-community relationship.Individualistic countries-such as the capitalist western states go ...

Do We Need Proof about The Existence Of Allah?
2008-03-12 11:54:00
Once, a scholar of sacred knowledge was asked, what is the proof for the existence of Allah . 'Allah', the scholar replied. Then, he was asked again, what about the apparatus of mind? 'It is deficient and leads only to something like', he replied.Ibn Ata' As-Sakandan said, "O Allah! How can they cite what needs You as an evidence for You?! Is there anything more evident than You to be cited as an evidence for You?! When did You cease watching the world that we need an evidence for Your existence?! And how far did you go that now we have to pursue Your traces to find You?! How can He be veiled while He disclosed every-thing?! How can He be veiled while He is evident anywhere?! How can He be veiled while He is the ever Evident and the only One Who has no peer?! How can He be veiled while Lie is nearer to us than anything else?! How can He be veiled while we owe our existence to Him?!Thus there is no comparison between those who know Allah as a source of evidence or as an end of ev...

Conflict Between the Truth and Falsehood
2008-03-09 06:10:00
Once an atheist came to Imam Shafi?i (may Allah be pleased with him) and said what is your proof that Allah is existent?. Imam Shafi?i replied, ?The leaves of mulberry tree have the same taste, color, smell and form, but when silkworm eats from it, it gives silk, when the bee eats from it, it gives honey, when the sheep eats from it, it becomes fat and milk increases in it sudder, and when the gazelle eats from it, it nourished itself with and gives musk. So, who made these things of diverse productions and excretions although the food was one and the same, surely, it is Allah.?So blessed be Allah, the Best to create? (Al-Mu?minum: 14?)Moreover, a free-thinker argued with Imam Al-Sadiq (may Allah be pleased with him) concerning the existence of Allah the Almighty. The Imam said to him, ?Did you sail across the sea before?? He replied ?yes?. The Imam said ?Did you see its horrors?? He replied, ?Once the wind blew and it was very strong and terrible. Thereupon, the ships were broken a...

My Beloved
2008-03-02 07:41:00
There was a time in my youth,When Islam was only a custom. They said "say La IIaha IIla Allah,..And pray, you'll go to Heaven."Ah, how simple, no struggle in this,Just a word, and simple act.Thereafter I'm absorbed in this world again,With my 'assured' place in Paradise intact. But this was not to be my fateFor ALLAH chose to guide my heart.I learnt of a man who struggled so hardWhen his mission was from the start. The story of someone who had morals,Spoke gently, kindness he knew.Never fearing to say what's right,His conviction in ISLAM was true. The touch of his hand was as soft as silkTo comfort a crying child. To mend his clothes, or do the chores,Never complaining, he always smiled.A living he made with his bare hands,The same that held his mighty sword.Valour shone from the edge of his blade,His smell was always of musk,And cleanliness he kept at his best.Stark contrast with the heroes of today,Who stink of beer and sweat. He held the hands of his companions.Unashamed to play w...

Why should a person only follow Islam?
2008-02-21 16:22:00
ALL RELIGIONS TEACH MEN TO BE RIGHTEOUS, THEN WHY FOLLOW ONLY ISLAM?All religions basically teach followers to do good deeds. Why should a person only follow Islam ? Can he not follow any of the religions?Answer by Dr. Zaakir Naik:1. Major difference between Islam and most other religionsAll religions basically exhort mankind to be righteous and eschew evil. But Islam goes beyond that. It guides us towards practical ways of achieving righteousness and eliminating evil from our individual and collective lives. Islam takes into account human nature and the complexities of human society. Islam is guidance from the Creator Himself. Therefore, Islam is also called the Deen-ul-Fitrah (the natural religion of Man).2. Example - Islam commands us to shun robbery and also prescribes method of eleminating robberya. Islam prescribes method of eliminating robberyAll major religions teach that theft is an evil act. Islam teaches the same. So what is the difference between Islam and the o...

The Mission of the Prophet Muhammad
2008-02-19 12:16:00
The Qur?an has this to say of the mission of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH:We have not sent you forth but as a mercy tomankind. (21:107)In the Qur?an and the Hadith, there are many such references that go to prove that Islam is a religion of peace, love and human brotherhood. However, it is also a fact that in later times the image of Islam has altered drastically. Now Islam has come to be regarded as a religion of violence rather than as a religion of peace. It is not the media that has produced this transformation in the image of Islam. The responsibility for this falls on latter-day Muslims, who have failed to maintain the original image of Islam. In actual fact, the mission of all the prophets, right from Adam to Christ (may peace be upon them all), was one and the same?of establishing the ideology of monotheism in the world, so that man might worship one God alone. As we know, there came a large number of prophets in ancient times, but the message of monotheism remained at the initi...

What is Jihad?
2008-02-17 07:56:00
It is true that jihad is one of the most important teachings of Islam. But jihad is not synonymous with war. In Islam another word is used for war and fighting. This word is ?qital.? When the Qur?an refers to war or fighting, it uses the word qital and not jihad.Jihad literally means to strive or to struggle. So jihad actually means peaceful struggle, especially for da?wah work. The Qur?an says:Do great jihad with the help of the Qur?an. (25:52)The Qur?an is simply a book, and not a sword, so ?do great jihad with the Qur?an? means do great jihad with the ideological power of the Qur?an. In fact, jihad is only another name for peaceful activism. And peaceful activism is the only weapon by which Islam wants to achieve all its aims and objectives.Source: GoodWordBooks
Islam is the Religion of Peace
2008-02-09 07:44:00
Islam is a religion of peace in the fullest sense of the word. The Qur?an calls its way ?the paths of peace? (5:16). It describes reconciliation as the best policy (4:128), and states that God abhors any disturbance of peace (2:205).The root word of Islam is ?silm?, which means peace. So the spirit of Islam is the spirit of peace. The first verse of the Qur?an breathes the spirit of peace. It reads:In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. This verse is repeated in the Qur?an no less than 113 times. It shows the great importance Islam attaches to such values as Mercy and Compassion. One of God?s names, according to the Qur?an, is As-Salam, which means peace. Moreover the Qur?an states that the Prophet Muhammad PBUH was sent to the world as a mercy to mankind. (21:107)A perusal of the Qur?an shows that most verses of the Qur?an (and also the Hadith) are based on peace and kindness, either directly or indirectly. The ideal society, according to the Qur?an is Dar as...

Islam means submission. The religion of Islam is so named because it is based on obedience to God. A true believer in Islam is one who subordinates his thinking to God, who follows God’s dictates in all aspects of his life.Islam is the religion of the entire universe. For the entire universe and all its parts are functioning in accordance with the law laid down by God. Such behaviour is also desired of man. Man should also lead his life as God’s obedient servant just as the rest of the universe is fully subservient to God. The only difference is that the universe has submitted to God compulsorily, while man is required to submit to the will of God by his own choice. When man adopts Islam, first of all it is his thinking, which comes under Islam, then his desires, his feelings, his interests, his relations, his loves and his hatred all get coloured by his obedience to God’s will. When man, in his daily life comes under God’s command, his behaviour with people, his dealings all...

Muharram
2008-01-19 07:58:00
The first month in the Islamic calendarContrary to popular belief, Muharram is not a particular day, but the name of a month that marks the beginning of the year according to the Islamic calendar. Muharram is one of four months that have been designated as holy according to the Islamic calendar, the other three being - Dhul-Qa'adah, Dhul-Hijjah and Rajab.Fasting in the month of MuharramFasting is advocated in the month of Muharram. The Prophet is believed to have said: "The best fasts after the fasts of Ramadan are those of the month of Muharram." Although the fasts of the month of Muharram are not obligatory, yet one who fasts in these days out of his own will is entitled to a great reward by Allah Almighty. Fasting on the tenth day of Muharram, called Ashura, is particularly important, as it supposed to lead to great rewards. A person does not have to fast for the whole month. On the contrary, each fast during this month has merit. Here are some activities that are recommended for...
Islam and Actual Practice of Muslims
2008-01-05 08:58:00
VAST DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ISLAM AND THE ACTUAL PRACTICE OF MUSLIMSIf Islam is the best religion, why are many of the Muslims dishonest, unreliable, and involved in activities such as cheating, bribing, dealing in drugs, etc.?Answer by Dr. Zaakir Naik:1. Media maligns Islam a. Islam is without doubt the best religion but the media is in the hands of the westerners who are afraid of Islam. The media is continuously broadcasting and printing information against Islam. They either provide misinformation about Islam, misquote Islam or project a point out of proportion, if any. b. When any bomb blasts take place anywhere, the first people to be accused without proof are invariably the Muslims. This appears as headlines in the news. Later, when they find that non-Muslims were responsible, it appears as an insignificant news item. c. If a 50 year old Muslim marries a 15 year old girl after taking her permission, it appears on the front page but when a 50 year old non-Muslim rapes a 6 yea...

Non-Muslims are not allowed in the holy cities
2007-12-25 18:56:00
Why are non-Muslims not allowed in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah?Answer by Dr. Zaakir Naik:It is true that non-Muslims are not allowed in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, by law. The following points will serve to elucidate the possible reasoning behind such a restriction.1. All citizens are not permitted in the cantonment areaI am a citizen of India. Yet, I am not permitted to enter certain restricted areas like the cantonment. In every country there are certain areas where a common citizen of that country cannot enter. Only a citizen who is enrolled in the military or those who are connected with the defence of the country are allowed in the cantonment area. Similarly Islam is a Universal Religion for the entire world and for all human beings. The cantonment areas of Islam are the two holy cites of Makkah and Madinah. Here only those who believe in Islam and are involved in the defence of Islam i.e. the Muslims are allowed. It would be illogical for a common citizen...

How to Perform the Rituals of Hajj
2007-12-16 07:20:00
How to Perform the Rituals of Hajj by Shaikh Muhammad As-Salih Al-UthaimeenPrefacePraise be to Allah, Lord of the Universe. May peace and blessings be upon Muhammad, the last of the prophets and messengers, and upon his family and esteemed companions. Hajj is one of the best forms of worship and is one of the most sublime deeds because it is one of the pillars of Islam that Allah sent Muhammad--may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him--with. A servant's religion is incomplete without it. A form of worship is only acceptable when the following is true.? One devotes it to Allah alone, with a desire for the Hereafter. It cannot be done with the intention of being seen among people or for worldly gain.? One follows the Prophet's example, in words and deeds. This cannot be accomplished except by gaining knowledge of the Sunnah.Forms of PilgrimageThere are three forms of Hajj: Tamattu'- Ifraad - QiranTamattu': A pilgrim wears Ihram for Umrah only during the months of Hajj, whic...

Islamic method of slaughtering Animals appears ruthless
2007-11-25 13:50:00
Why do Muslims slaughter the animal in a ruthless manner by torturing it and slowly and painfully killing it?Answer by Dr. Zaakir Naik:The Islamic method of slaughtering animals, known as Zabiha has been the object of much criticism from a large number of people. One may consider the following points, which prove that the Zabiha method is not only humane but also scientifically the best:1. Islamic method of slaughtering animal Zakkaytum is a verb derived from the root word Zakah (to purify). Its infinitive is Tazkiyah which means purification. The Islamic mode of slaughtering an animal requires the following conditions to be met:a. Animal should be slaughtered with sharp object (knife)The animal has to be slaughtered with a sharp object (knife) and in a fast way so that the pain of slaughter is minimised.b. Cut wind pipe, throat and vessels of neck Zabiha is an Arabic word which means ?slaughtered?. The ?slaughtering? is to be done by cutting the throat, windpipe and the blood vessel...

Why is the eating of pork forbidden in Islam?
2007-11-09 07:59:00
Answer by Dr. Zakir Naik:The fact that consumption of pork is prohibited in Islam is well known. The following points explain various aspects of this prohibition:1. Pork prohibited in Qur'anThe Qur'an prohibits the consumption of pork in no less than 4 different places. It is prohibited in 2:173, 5:3, 6:145 and 16:115."Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah." [Al-Qur'an 5:3]The above verses of the Holy Qur'an are sufficient to satisfy a Muslim as to why pork is forbidden.2. Pork prohibited in the BibleThe Christian is likely to be convinced by his religious scriptures. The Bible prohibits the consumption of pork, in the book of Leviticus"And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven footed, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you"."Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch, they are unclean to you."[...

Muslims warned against Zam Zam scam

Criminal gangs are operating a multi-million pound scam selling fake holy water wrongly labeled from Mecca. The black market trade in fake 'Zam Zam' water is becoming a serious concern for health officials. The Food Standards Agency has warned Muslims not to buy the water.A number of London councils have seized fake bottles. Earlier this month trading standards officers seized bottles from a shop in Notting Hill, west London and similar seizures have been carried out in Gloucester, Barnsley and Leicester. Some of the water is smuggled into Britain in crates of vegetables and furniture, according to customs officials.Dr Yunes Teinaz, an environmental health expert who advises the London Central Mosque, said: "This water is contaminated and unsafe for the consumer. And people are making millions of pounds selling this stuff."Teinaz said he also believed some unscrupulous operators in Britain were mixing normal tap water with salt and marketing it as Zam Zam water. Ramadan: a Non-Muslim's Experience.
2007-09-20 08:32:00
Ramadan: a Spiritual Time in Senegal for a Foreign Studentby Ben HubbardNorthwestern UniversityEVANSTON, Ill. -- Salaam Alekum. At this time last year I was fasting. For those of you who don't know, this is the month of Ramadan, the holiest month of the Muslim year. It is observed by Muslims worldwide through fasting and increased concentration on purification of the soul and closeness with God.While not a Muslim myself, this time last year found me in Senegal, the westernmost country in Africa, whose population is 90 percent Muslim. Given that just about everyone I knew was Muslim and would be fasting during Ramadan, I decided, rather reluctantly, to fast as well.If all my friends had to force themselves through it, I figured the least I could do was try it for myself to better sympathize with what they were going through. When in Rome, do as the Romans; when in Senegal, fast. While I had resolved to fast for the entire month, I can't say I was particularly excited about it. The...
