Gossip.. and the weekend upcoming
2007-12-14 20:42:00
My daughter and I have had really good talks over the past few days. She was gossiped about and in the midst of that events were twisted really badly to make her look to act in a way that she does not. Just because she is 15, that doesn't mean she is stupid. When she hears her mom and dad whispering and trying to be quiet and have discussions her ears perk up. She was so worried she had done something wrong. It amazed me at the insight she had to come to me and tell me specifically why she felt things had been twisted in the way they had. I had already thought some of the same things and I found it amazing that she could have such insight. I keep thinking over the verse "be careful, your sins will find you out" and that is such a truth with gossip and half truths. They eventually come full circle. On another note, our weekend looks to be busy. The two older children have a youth party tonight to go to. I have a bridal shower to attend tomorrow afternoon, followed by a Chr...

Advent Day 13 -- 1 Samuel 16:1-13 -- anointed by God
2007-12-14 17:00:00
1 Now the LORD said to Samuel , "How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons." 2 And Samuel said, "How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me." But the LORD said, "Take a heifer with you, and say, 'I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.' 3 Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; you shall anoint for Me the one I name to you." 4 So Samuel did what the LORD said, and went to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, "Do you come peaceably?" 5 And he said, "Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. Sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice." Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons, and invited them to the sacrifice. 6 So it was, when they came, that he looked at Eliab and said, &qu...

Train Up A Child Thursday.. er.. uhm.. Friday
2007-12-14 15:44:00
I did not get to post this yesterday because I needed to help my husband with some things for his blog. However, I did want to get this up because it is a very important part of my blog. We have many Bibles in our home. One of my husbands is The Maxwell Leadership Bible and it has devotions on how to be a good leader and mentor. In Numbers one of its devotions is about how it takes a good leader to raise up new good leaders. It uses a mnemonic of the word PARENT to help guide you in being a good leader. I adapted that to use with teaching our children:P: PURPOSE: You must be strategic in raising your children. You can't just parent "on the fly" but need to have clearly defined guidelines with a clearly defined outcome. A: ASSESMENT: Be honest with your children and yourself. If you aren't doing this then how will they ever know if what they (or you) are doing is right?!R: RELATIONSHIP: You can not just be the mom and dad who tells your child what to do all the time. You ...

Train Up A Child Email .. and a thank you
2007-12-14 14:58:00
Yesterday I saw in my stats that someone emailed me for the blogroll but it never landed in my inbox. If it was you (whoever that might be...lol) please email me again at anderklan@yahoo.com .. Thank you :-)Also, thank you to everyone who has voted for me, or continues to vote for me as best Encouragement Blog at the homeschool blog awards. I haven't been too encouraging or encouraged myself lately but I do appreciate everyone who so kindly, and quickly, put me in the lead. I would never spend the money on myself for any of the prizes when my children need so much (by the way, can anyone please tell me where to find size 18 extra tall extra slim pants for boys... my 13 year old is now 5'8" but so skinny that man pants don't fit him... I finally admitted to his face last night that he was taller than me... I was enjoying denial but  I'm barely to his nose now so  it's time to admit it...*sigh*) so I'm very thankful for all the friendly voters! God bless!

It Was Christmas Eve
2007-12-14 02:00:00
Our friend, Abby Hinkson, wrote this poem. She is a homeschooled 6th  grader in Lebanon Junction, KY. She gave me permission to put it on my blog. It was Christmas Eve, And all through the nation Between Christ and Christmas There was no relation. Instead were commercials, And big jolly sleighs, But no little Nativity Or Baby Jesus plays. People were wrapping, And last-minute shopping At big expensive stores Until at last they were dropping. Jesus was still in the basement, With the rest of the scene, While outside the world Was watching a flat-screen. No one sang carols Of Christ Jesus the King, Instead they were at stores Using up green. And after all the stores Were finally closed They sang of Rudolph, The reindeer, red-nosed. Then they decorated the tree With tacky plastic things, Like glittery this, gigantic that, And beings with ugly huge wings.Yet, never, not once, Did they stop to consider, Was there too little Jesus, And maybe, too much glitter? They just ran about Like min...

Advent Day 12 -- Ruth 1:15 - 2:3 -- sadness turned to healing happiness
2007-12-14 00:28:00
Ruth 1:15 And she said, "Look, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods; return after your sister-in-law." 16 But Ruth said: "Entreat me not to leave you, or to turn back from following after you; for wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God, my God. 17 Where you die, I will die, and there will I be buried. The LORD do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts you and me." 18 When she saw that she was determined to go with her, she stopped speaking to her. 19 Now the two of them went until they came to Bethlehem. And it happened, when they had come to Bethlehem, that all the city was excited because of them; and the women said, "Is this Naomi?" 20 But she said to them, "Do not call me Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. 21 I went out full, and the LORD has brought me home again empty. Why do you call me Naomi, si...

Parents should pay climate change tax on extra kids: expert
2007-12-13 23:46:00
This story rubs me as raw as this story that I previously posted about. Remember that one? Where the woman was having abortions and sterilization to save the earth from any results of her promiscuous lifestyle? Well, of course that isn't how she looked at it but that's the truth behind it.. So here we have another one where we are going to attack the baby and/or those who cherish life rather than the ones who just want to save the planet! Maybe if we get rid of all the PETA save the animal crazies, then we could have room in this world for our babies! I'm sure all the Sangerites are happy with the way this world is turning out...  Read on and try not to get too sick...SYDNEY (AFP) -- Monday, December 10 09:06 pm -- YAHOO UK/IRELAND NEWS -- Parents who have more than two children should be charged a lifelong climate change tax to offset the effect of their extra greenhouse gas emissions, an Australian medical expert has proposed. They should pay 5,000 dollars (4,400 US) a head for...

Running late today on posts..
2007-12-13 15:00:00
I have a doctor's appointment today and would appreciate prayers for it. It is going to be a long one but I will try to get my regular Train Up a Child post as well as the advent post for today up this afternoon before it gets too late. I just didn't have time to preset it last night due to our final AWANA meeting before Christmas -- we had a "Happy Birthday, Jesus!" celebration with all our children... I really love those guys! Thanks for sending those prayers my way!

Celebrate a debt-free Christmas
2007-12-13 00:23:00
story by Howard Dayton Posted on Dec 12, 2007 @ BPNEWS.NETGAINESVILLE, Ga. (BP)--From October 31 onward it's impossible to forget that Christmas is coming. Before Thanksgiving, the red-coated man with the white beard and bag of toys is seen in stores and by mid-December, most homes are decorated, inside and out, with Christmas trees and lights. However, the real Christmas story is found in Matthew and Luke chapters 1 and 2. It's about the earthly birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ the Son of God. Conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, He lived and ministered on earth, and then died and arose again -- the promised Messiah. Jesus came as the Savior of all, and identifies Himself with every racial group, every culture, and every society.Until a couple of centuries ago, in countries where it was observed, Christmas was a noncommercial religious holiday. Gifts may have been exchanged on New Year's Day, but most gifts associated with Christmas were limited to feeding the po...

Advent Day 11 -- Joshua 2: 1-21 -- hidden and safe
2007-12-12 15:00:00
1 Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men from Acacia Grove to spy secretly, saying, "Go, view the land, especially Jericho." So they went, and came to the house of a harlot named Rahab, and lodged there. 2 And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, "Behold, men have come here tonight from the children of Israel to search out the country." 3 So the king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying, "Bring out the men who have come to you, who have entered your house, for they have come to search out all the country." 4 Then the woman took the two men and hid them. So she said, "Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they were from. 5 And it happened as the gate was being shut, when it was dark, that the men went out. Where the men went I do not know; pursue them quickly, for you may overtake them." 6 (But she had brought them up to the roof and hidden them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order on the roof.) 7 Then the men pu...

Some changes and a bit of encouragement that in the end none of this matter
2007-12-12 14:52:00
I'm happy to report a new comment is up clearing me of any cheating on the encouragement blogs award. My husband and I have had some issues recently with other family and because of what was happening with that, I felt almost certain that the cheating accusation probably came from that same arena. I emailed the team at HSBA wanting to clear my name and asked if they were able to tell if the comment had come from a certain location (or another area). I explained why and the several coincidences that made me feel that it could have. I also told them I desperately hoped that this person was cleared, that I would forward them the email I had sent out to friends, and that I would drop out rather than have any more rifts come up. I cried when I found out the person I was afraid might have accused me was cleared. This has moved some things into perspective about blogging for me though. I've been writing in my blog for a very long time. The first entry in this blog is actually from 19 May...

Homeschool Blog Awards.. encouragement award
2007-12-11 21:47:00
A comment from some person claims there has been cheating on the Encouragement Blog Award and it seems to target me as the culprit. I have not cheated and the stat checks will confirm that. I am very upset that my integrity would be called into question. I can't believe some people would care that much about seeing someone lose that they would do that. I have asked for a full investigation! Please continue to vote for me and I know in the end it will all work out! God knows me and what is within me! Advent Day 10 -- Deuteronomy 5: 1-22 -- the Law
2007-12-11 14:00:00
1 And Moses called all Israel, and said to them: "Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your hearing today, that you may learn them and be careful to observe them. 2 The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. 3 The LORD did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, those who are here today, all of us who are alive. 4 The LORD talked with you face to face on the mountain from the midst of the fire. 5 I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to declare to you the word of the LORD; for you were afraid because of the fire, and you did not go up the mountain. He said:6 'I am the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 7 'You shall have no other gods before Me. 8 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image -- any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 9 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. Blogging With A Purpose Award
2007-12-10 16:24:00
Trish from MamaBugs' Mountain View Christian Academy gave me this award and it was such a very big surprise. I didn't even know she reads my blog! She awarded this to me because of my recent writings on PTSD. It is hard to share such personal information with strangers but my hope is that other families find some relief in their own struggles as well. Eric Novak started this award, here are the rules:Rules:1. Award ed parties must nominate five people who have not received the award.2. The blogs that receive the award must serve some purpose.3. In their post about the award they need to link back to this entry.4. Awarded parties must post the award banner on their site. The banner must remain linked to this site. The 5 people I am giving this award to are:Mike, my husband, at the Gunny's Gouge. My husband started his blog as a way of being able to look back at his war diary and contrast it with the present in hopes that it would not only help him, but others as well. He shares sup...

Advent Day 9 -- Genesis 37: 1-36; 50: 15-21 -- providence and forgiveness
2007-12-10 14:00:00
Genesis 37: 1-36 -- 1 Now Jacob dwelt in the land where his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan. 2 This is the history of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brothers. And the lad was with the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives; and Joseph brought a bad report of them to his father. 3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age. Also he made him a tunic of many colors. 4 But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peaceably to him. 5 Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more. 6 So he said to them, "Please hear this dream which I have dreamed: 7 There we were, binding sheaves in the field. Then behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and indeed your sheaves stood all around and bowed down to my sheaf." 8 And his brothers said to him, "...

Advent Day 8 -- Genesis 28:10-22 -- Never Alone
2007-12-09 15:00:00
10 Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran. 11 So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. 12 Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 13 And behold, the LORD stood above it and said: "I am the LORD God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. 14 Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. 15 Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you." 16 Then ...

You know there's meds for that, right?!
2007-12-09 05:00:00
I was asked what meds my husband was taking for his PTSD a while back. I said "nothing" and was met with a "you must be stupid" stare. I guess I can understand that to some extent but because the person isn't a doctor and doesn't live in my husband's shoes, it seemed a bit judgmental. I thought I'd take the time to explain a few things since I posted the other day about the recent visit with the doc. Maybe there are others with some of the same issues and it will help in some small way. Back in about 1998 my husband fell off a church roof. He was helping to replace the roof, it was getting late and darkness was starting to fall. They were almost finished when a roll of tar paper hit him and knocked him over the side. He fell probably 25 to 30 feet and dented an air conditioner unit on his way down. Miraculously he didn't have a scratch on him. He had a long night of full body ex-rays checking him over to make sure there weren't any internal injuries. Everyt...

Love
2007-12-08 15:00:00
My life is so far from being anywhere near perfect that I often wonder how we make it from day to day. Actually, I know how we make it. In the end we live and breath only because of Jesus Christ and his sacrifice for us. Everyday we struggle, some days more than others. This is life. This is what life is for those who don't have Christ and those who do. The only difference is that as a Christian we have faith and hope in that which to the physical eye remains unseen but in the heart is full and alive. As deep as our own pains and struggles may be, it is unfathomable to me how someone could do it without Christ. Tags: Love , Encouragement, Youtube
Advent Day 7, Genesis 22: 1-14 -- true faith and the Lord's provision
2007-12-08 15:00:00
1 Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am." 2 Then He said, "Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you." 3 So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place afar off. 5 And Abraham said to his young men, "Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you." 6 So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, and the two of them went together. 7 But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father ...

Spirit of Christmas Award
2007-12-07 21:53:00
Nina at Mama's Little Treasures (not to be confused with Nina of Raising Butterflies which I think I've been doing and just thinking she had like 3 or 4 blogs...LOL) gave me this award. I honestly don't know who to give this to because so many have gotten it already, so let me just put the rules here and if you don't have it yet, and you fit the rules, then leave a comment and take it. The first five to do so can considered themselves awarded :-) God bless! From Santa's Community Blog:What is the Spirit of Christmas you ask?Quite simply it is those that have a generous and giving nature. Those who care about others. Those who have a kind word to say or a broad shoulder to lean on in the times that others need that. Those who display the "Spirit of Christmas".This is the only award that I am releasing that you may pass on to others. I am giving it to five and you should too. Those that have touched your heart with their kind and giving and caring nature.

1 And the LORD visited Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did for Sarah as He had spoken. 2 For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. 3 And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him -- whom Sarah bore to him -- Isaac. 4 Then Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. 5 Now Abraham was one hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. 6 And Sarah said, "God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me." 7 She also said, "Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? For I have borne him a son in his old age."Tags: Jesse Tree Ornament, birth, Genes is 21: 1-7

Just A Little Peek..
2007-12-06 23:28:00
My husband has been diagnosed with PTSD in the past year. We did not have a regular "doc" that he could talk to and so his appointments have been sporadic at best. Balboa Hostpital and Camp Pendleton, the largest base in California, were noticing that we had a larger number of cases from our base as we've been supporting the functions in Iraq and abroad since the start. They decided it was time to put a permanent person here and have at least been sending someone everyweek to talk with guys until that can get officially set up over the next few weeks. Today my husband had an appointment with the fill in doc.I have never sat in on one of his appointments before. Today he asked me to and so for the last two hours we've been listening to and talking to the doc. It was nice to have that inside peek into something that he tries very hard to keep to himself. The doc was able to offer some helpful insight to both of us on what we are doing wrong and right and what other things ...

Advent Day 5 -- Genesis 12: 1-7 -- a commission and a promise
2007-12-06 17:31:00
1 Now the LORD had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you. 2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." 4 So Abram departed as the LORD had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. 5 Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother¿s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan. 6 Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, as far as the terebinth tree of Moreh. And the Canaanites were then in the land. 7 Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your descendants I will give this la...

We are so excited... a little bit of shameless mommy bragging going on here
2007-12-05 10:19:00
I have talked several times about my daughter taking a class on the US Constitution. Actually, we both took it but I did not turn in a term paper. I just really didn't want to take a scholarship away from a child who could use it more. So, anyway, this class was about 6 weeks long and for 2 hours every Tuesday night all we did was study the Constitution. All the articles, amendments, etc. We went more in depth than MY high school teachers went and I was involved in student government programs throughout my state. I was part of the Kentucky Youth Assembly and the Kentucky Youth United Nations Assembly for three years followed with arguing a case in the Kentucky Youth Supreme Court my senior year. You would have thought we'd studied the constitution really well but we didn't. So, anyway, guess what?!!? SHE WON A PRIZE FOR HER PAPER!!!! We had the announcement conference tonight and you want to know what she won???? An all expense paid trip to a week long student freedom se...
