Advent Day 4 -- Genesis 6: 11-14; 7: 17-8: 3; 9: 8-13 -- corruption, delive
2007-12-05 06:41:00 6:11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. 13 And God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make yourself an ark of gopher wood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.----------------------------------- ----7:17 Now the flood was on the earth forty days. The waters increased and lifted up the ark, and it rose high above the earth. 18 The waters prevailed and greatly increased on the earth, and the ark moved about on the surface of the waters. 19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly on the earth, and all the high hills under the whole heaven were covered. 20 The waters prevailed fifteen cubits upward, and the mountains were covered. 21 And all flesh died that moved on the earth: bird... Monday Meanderings/Menu Plan Monday... a day late ;-)
2007-12-05 00:09:00 I have to move my planning back a day because of the Farmer's Market so I guess I will be posting these on Tuesday afternoons until I get a good feel for what the market will have on a continuous basis. It was late when we left the house so I didn't make it to the Harvest Club so I'll have to do that in the morning. I know they usually offer lots of poultry and pasta's in the packages though so I can sort of plan my menu by that as well as what I will buy at the commissary. Again, after a few weeks I'll know the routine a bit better. The Harvest Club is year round here but I like the selections better when the produce is fresh because everything else seems to be better quality then too. That is why I usually only shop the club in the winter months. Tomorrow I'll post a pic for Wordless Wednesday of all my food goodies I bought today :-) 1) HOMESCHOOL -- Many things have led me to pray about my method of homeschooling. I continued to get the comment of "that's not what M... More About: Menu , Monday , Late , Plan , Erin

Scavenger Hunt fun
2007-12-04 18:19:00 We went to a Christmas party at the house of our AWANA commander on Saturday night. We had such a blast!! They are the sweetest couple and it was nice to spend time getting to know them even better. Mike and I won the scavenger hunt and our prize was a $25 gift certificate to Applebee's. We are a pretty good team! I mean he is a Marine and I'm a good navigator and know a lot about this town from just going for drives so it was fun for us. One of the items you had to get was a snickers bar and so we won all of those, too. WOO HOO!! Snicker's are our favorite around here :-) We picked up close to 20 items in about 5 stops cause we are good task managers. We even called in first and got two items knocked off our lists...we follow directions so well...LOL.. There was also a white elephant gift exchange. That is where you bring a gently used or unneeded prize from your house to share. They are usually weird and fun items. Last year at our party the gift most "stolen" was the... Advent Day 3 -- Genesis 3:1-19 -- sin
2007-12-04 15:00:00 1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God actually say, 'You shall not eat of any tree in the garden'?" 2 And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but God said, 'You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.'" 4 But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made... More About: Genesis , Advent , Genes
Do We Put Him In The Box And Throw Away The Key??
2007-12-04 02:44:00 My God has answered more prayers for my family this year than I can count on fingers and toes. We have been so strongly convinced to turn our whole lives over to God that in every instance of our life, especially recently, we have no answer except to pray. Family, life, finances, job, automobiles are all things we've prayed about and waited on God for His answers. Many times literally two seconds later we have known the answer in a clear and precise way. Other times we've had to pray and wait. God always answers our prayers!I know that sometimes waiting can be the hardest thing. This is the point at which most of the time people fail. And then the next time we pray and aren't answered right away, the time we wait gets even shorter. Sooner or later we just lock Jesus up in a box, throw away the key, and try to do it all on our own. Eventually we'll run around harried like a chicken with its head cut off trying to find the key to let Jesus out because all else has failed and we re... More About: Throw

Advent Day 2 -- Genesis 1:26-31
2007-12-03 15:00:00 26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." 29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground -- everything that has the breath of life in it -- I give every green plant for food." Learning My Letters eBook is ready!!
2007-12-03 04:48:00 I finally had the chance to get the Learning My Letters eBook "printed" today. The more files you have, the longer it takes to create the PDF file and nothing else can be running on your computer at that time. My family loved me for that ;-) Anyway, of course, the best way to download it is to right click on the link above, and then click on "save target as" and choose which folder on your computer you want to save it in. This eBook has 37 pages of dot to dot tracing letters -- individual letters, the complete alphabet, multiples of each letter, etc.. I also included the lined paper and story paper in this one as well. This eBook is free just like the other two. If these eBooks have been helpful and you want to make a donation of any amount that is very much appreciated and you can do that through my paypal button that I added in the sidebar. However, I know not everyone can afford to pay for a lot of curriculum and don't really have time to search through 50 ... More About: Ebook , Ready , Earning
Advent Day 1 -- Isaiah 11:1-10
2007-12-02 21:45:00 1 There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots. 2 The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. 3 His delight is in the fear of the LORD, and He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, nor decide by the hearing of His ears; 4 But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, and with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked. 5 Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, and faithfulness the belt of His waist. 6 "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. 7 The cow and the bear shall graze; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like ... Christmas Cards.. a bit of info on the very first one
2007-12-01 23:57:00 We really enjoy letting all the children sign their own names to the Christmas cards. It makes them more personal and they feel like they have been included in the card process. We got the stash of cards out and the kids will sign a few at a time and take a break and come back and sign more later. Hopefully by Monday they will all be signed and I can take my time filling out or printing the envelopes. I thought I'd pull some info from the first Christmas webpage I ever did many, many years ago and put it here to share since it is about this same subject. I hope you enjoy this bit of Christmas card history :-)In 1843, the first Christmas card was printed in England for Sir Henry Cole. It was divided into three frames. The largest frame, the middle, was a picture of a family feast. The smaller frame to the right was to symbolize the feeding of the poor and the smaller to the left symbolized clothing the poor. He was a busy man who wanted to save time on his own Christmas letters, but... More About: Info , Cards
How Sweet He Is
2007-12-01 23:33:00 My husband and I have not been able to go on our coffee dates for a few weeks. We've been busy and he has been stressing a bit over a retirement ceremony that he had to plan so it just kept getting pushed aside for the opportunity to sleep a bit later. Last night he asked if we could please go this morning so we could have some time together. I said YES and so we took off early early to grab that cup of joe. Well, he surprised me and took me to breakfast instead at the Cracker Barrel. It was so nice to have that hour to ourselves so we could catch up with each other and just talk about what has been going on at work and with school. We are still stuffing stockings this year even though we aren't doing all out presents and so we were able to find four small stocking stuffers for the stockings. Do you know there were only 5 items in the store NOT made in China and we bought 4 of them?! I think label reading for products not made in China is harder than label reading for foods that a... Grace like Rain
2007-12-01 04:25:00 The rain is falling and purifying the air all around us. I stood at the open door a few minutes ago listening to the pitter patter of it falling on the patio. It reminds me of God's grace. It pours out over us and soaks us through to the very core. It is sufficient. We don't need anything else. Unlike the rain that is a rare sight in the desert, God's grace is always present and always faithful. We never need worry that He will remove Himself away from us when we have accepted Him as our Lord and Savior. Many of us live in moments in the desert where our homeschool routine may not be going right this week. Has every single person in the family passed the flu on to each other and you are just to sick and tired to move? Maybe the laundry has piled up and you are smelling jeans in the basket to see which ones smell the least. Perhaps you have to wash a glass before you can even get a drink of water because the sink is piled high from your daily tasks. Or worse yet,&nb... More About: Rain , Grace

This is run (coordinated?) by the Yuma Community Food Bank. Along with utilizing the Harvest Club (food co-op program), we can really save money on our groceries. We don't eat a great range of fresh veggies during the summer months because they are more expensive at that time for us. We eat canned or frozen then but in the months of December through March we get to sample a harvest of all the great vegetables this town raises. Did you know Yuma provides somewhere in the range of 90% of lettuces to the world? That's a lot of lettuces :-) There are other great veggies too and we eat lots of fresh during this time of the year. I'm so excited I can hardly wait for Tuesday to get here :-)Oh, and today is going to be so lovely! I can already see it :-) We woke up to a chill in the air (as chilly as it can be for the ... A Bit of Mom Talk
2007-11-30 06:59:00 I went to a baby shower tonight for a friend of mine who is expecting very soon. It was a large gathering and so I ended up wandering to the back room where mom's with small children kept going to keep their children busy playing with toys and out of the way of flying toilet paper belly measuring strips, and passing of the packages, and participants diving for clothes pin for anyone who said the key words of baby, due date, or boy :-) It was nice to sit and chat with younger moms and see how they interacted with their small ones. My youngest is now 10 so sometimes I'm afraid I've lost my touch -- yes, I know this isn't really true because there are several babies and toddlers from church and/or that belong to friends who love "Ms Sallie" so I get my baby love quite often ;-) There was one little boy who was really for a three year old just brilliant in his speech and intelligence. I noticed him right away. However as his mom and I talked he got frustrated because he wa... More About: Talk

Advent 2007 -- Days 1, 2, and 3
2007-11-29 16:49:00 I didn't get to scan our ornaments last night so I wanted to be sure I did that this morning. Our daughter colored the ornaments, and then after we cut them out, we rubbed the edges with a bronze inkpad to give them an aged look. You can decorate them anyway you want! Here are our first three days as an example.. we will begin our Advent readings this Sunday, the 2nd of December. At church we always have an Advent Wreath with candles lit each Sunday leading up to the Sunday before Christmas and we light the middle candle at our Christmas eve candlelight service. We will probably also have a wreath at home and light that at the beginning of our readings and then hang the ornament and blow out the candle after the reading. What special things do you do leading up to Christmas day?Tags: Jesse Tree Ornaments, Advent, December 2nd More About: Days

2007-11-28 20:52:00 Posted on Nov 27, 2007 | by Jeff Robinson (click on link to read full story) RIDGECREST, N.C. (BP)¿-Nearly 30 percent of recent SBC seminary graduates now serving as church pastors identify themselves as Calvinists, according to data presented during the opening session of a conference on Reformed theology and the Southern Baptist Convention.By contrast in the SBC at large, the number of pastors who affirm the five points of Calvinism is around 10 percent, Ed Stetzer, director of LifeWay Research, said in reporting various findings by LifeWay Research and the North American Mission Board Center for Missional Research.Such data, Stetzer noted Nov. 26, perhaps gives an indication why a conference such as "Building Bridges: Southern Baptists and Calvinism" is taking place. The Jesse Tree Ornaments
2007-11-28 16:18:00 For my Web link Wednesday post below I gave a link to jesse-trees.com because I love the ornaments they sell. Plus they have coloring pages, and devotional pages for every day of the Advent. I however am not crafty enough to make my own ornaments using their cross stitch patterns and we could not afford this year to buy the ornaments. Probably back in September I did a search for free graphics and found there are many web sites online that offer free symbols for you to print off. My most favorite though was actually the Reformed Church of America web site. The graphics they have for download are very simple black and white pictures. You can make these more special by letting your children color them and I liked that I got to use some of my scrapbooking talents by embellishing the edges a bit with some stamp pads. I will be posting pictures of ours one a day until Christmas along with the verse for each day. More About: Jesse , Tree , Amen

We have had an advent calendar before, where you uncover one day at a time, but our family has never read the whole advent story day by day. We are excited to add the scriptures to our homeschool and family worship time this year. Do not be discouraged or worried about it already having started. You can just jump in right away or even wait until Sunday when you light your first candle of the advent. Pills, chills, and not too many thrills...
2007-11-27 23:16:00 I finally was able to go to sleep last night after midnight when I took some pills for my headache. Of course, I'm ultra sensitive to medicine and so lots of times my body's reaction is to want to get rid of said pills the quickest exit possible ( i.e.. ..back up again ..yucky). I won out over the natural reaction of my body and fell asleep on the sofa (much to my husband's chagrin AGAIN. I woke first when Mike came downstairs this morning, and secondly about 10 minutes after he left for work. I felt much refreshed at that particular time but then about 3 hours ago I started getting the chills. I checked the thermostat then and it was showing the indoor temp to be 70 degrees. I sat on the couch after lunch *to just rest a moment* and woke up a few minutes ago. OOPS! I'm never quite sure if I should thank the children for being so nice and letting me catch up on rest when I've had a bad night or fuss at them for taking advantage of my bad night to get out of school work. A Review for Amazon.com
2007-11-27 18:02:00 Several weeks ago I was sent an email that basically said a really bad review had been written for Passionate Housewives Desperate for God at amazon.com and would I please write a review for the book and post it. Things come up in this house that get us busy and sidetracked just like every other family but I finally have finished and feel I can truly do the author's justice in my review. The Joys of Reading My Husbands Bible
2007-11-27 16:12:00 My husband has a great understanding of God's grace and mercy and his Bible s are always full to the brim with his little notes and commentaries. I glean so much information about what my husband is thinking from reading his Bible, sometimes even more so than if we talk. Many times it is his notes of encouragement that will help me understand something in a rought spot. He had been reading his Bible early this morning before work and the most comfortable chair in the house for his back now is the computer chair so he normally sits at the computer desk to read. I picked up his Bible to move to the table by the other chair in here when I noticed some more writing. Even though they are his personal thoughts I don't think he would mind me sharing so here are just a very few that I read this morning as I skimmed over some pages of Proverbs. 2007-11-27 08:44:00 Terrorists target Army base ¿ in Arizona By Sara A. CarterNovember 26, 2007 Fort Huachuca, the nation's largest intelligence-training center, changed security measures in May after being warned that Islamist terrorists, with the aid of Mexican drug cartels, were planning an attack on the facility. Fort officials changed security measures after sources warned that possibly 60 Afghan and Iraqi terrorists were to be smuggled into the U.S. through underground tunnels with high-powered weapons to attack the Arizona Army base, according to multiple confidential law enforcement documents obtained by The Washington Times. "A portion of the operatives were in the United States, with the remainder not yet in the United States," according to one of the documents, an FBI advisory that was distributed to the Defense Intelligence Agency, the CIA, Customs and Border Protection and the Justice Department, among several other law enforcement agencies throughout the nation. Homeschooling and Mike Huckabee
More articles from this author:2007-11-26 23:20:00 Earlier this year I sent many democrat and republican candidates the same question. I have a special needs child and I choose to homeschool my children because the No Child Left Behind Act has failed my special needs child. If I have to have him at home and think thats what is best for him, then I choose to have the others ones at home as well. The question I asked was simply this: "What are your plans as president to make sure this failure of the NCLB Act doesn't continue to happen to children whose parents choose to keep their children in school but also what are you going to do to help me be able to homeschool my child at home." Very few of the candidates answered me back and their answers were not really an answer to my question. Nearly every single one of them had some form or another to try and improve upon special needs children in school under the current NCLB Act even though its failing more children than it is helping, and not much either to help me with my chi...
