Train Up A Child Thursday -- creeds
2007-10-25 10:00:00 ***Train Up A Child Thursday is a meme dedicated to sharing biblical traits/characteristics you are teaching your children. There is no blogroll you have to sign up for or anything like that. There is a blogroll now in the left sidebar but you don't have to sign up if you don't want to. If you wish to participate just sign the Mister Linky and/or leave a comment so others can see what you are teaching your kids, too! I would love it if you would share by putting the button on your page as a link back but again you don't have to.*** OK, my brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and husband can probably vouch for how much I hate creeds because I worry that "modern day creeds" were all written by men who want to twist the Bible to say what they want to say. And even though we've had some heated debates I know we all love and respect each other very much. I've learned even the Apostle's creed, being recognized as the oldest creed, has changed a bit depending on who was using it... More About: Cree , TRAI
All Christians were Baptists???
2007-10-25 05:43:00 "I should not readily admit that there was a Baptist Church as far back as AD 100, although without doubt there were Baptists then, as all Christians were then Baptists." John Ridpath, who was a Methodist Historian as quoted by WA Jarrel in Baptist Church Perpetuity on p.69 (which you can purchase from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc..)I find it interesting to read books/webpages/documents that have quotes from men other than Baptists about the length of Baptist history... It is fascinating to me... I do love that he said all Christians were Baptists. Of course, Baptists use the word baptists because we believe in full immersion, which even the Roman Catholic Church admits in its encyclopedia that this was the standard of baptizing in the early church during Christ's time on earth, through even as late as the 16th century. Passages in the Bible point to immersion because of the need of much water (John 3:23), or they were traveling and came upon water (Acts 8:36-39), and th... More About: Were
I need a new t-shirt...
2007-10-25 00:38:00 One that says heretic on one side and bigot on the other..that should cover me all the way around. Let me be clear to those who might throw those names around, I am completely 100% a follower of Jesus Christ and I submit to the WORD OF GOD alone as scriptural authority. NOTHING THAT SAYS "100% faithful to the Magisterium (or the teaching authority) of the Catholic Church" is authoritative to me and my belief in Jesus Christ. Does simply following the Word of God instead of the RCC make me a bigot? I don't know but if it does then I gladly claim it and own it. I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ and what He has done for me...Now, back to regularly scheduled blogging... More About: Shirt , T-Shirt
a note we left for our postman yesterday
2007-10-24 17:30:00 Dear Mail Carrier Person -- We have misplaced our key to the box. Though it might not sound too important, we love our Vision Forum catalog that comes about this time of year. We are a homeschooling family and we use it to to compete in contests based around historical facts. Last year we studied Jamestown and learned so much. This year we can already tell there could be ______________________, and _______________________, and ____________________ involved. It fills us with such joy to be able to use our brains in such a way as this.Would you please bring any mail in our box, and any from today to our door? We will try and get our key found or replaced but it really is breaking our hearts not to have this special catalog. Our hearts are sad as our sleuthing skills begin to fade.In all Sincerity,The Anderson FamilyAND, she did!!! WOO HOO!!! BTW, we didn't actually put blanks in the note to her but removed the clues we've already found when posting it here... i... More About: Note , Left , Yesterday

Giving credit and thanks...
2007-10-23 21:07:00 I knew this morning that I would probably have a bit more traffic just for the simple fact I was in the Carnival of Homeschooling today. I did not figure upon anyone thinking my writing was good enough to share through stumbleupon and so was greatly shocked to see 60 people had already passed by my proverbial doors by 11:00 today. I thank you Summer aka lillake for giving me a thumbs up review there! I truly do appreciate the thumbs up! I'm no Nobel laureate, though I hear the criteria for that has diminished in recent years.... More About: Credit , Giving , Hank
Values Voter Summit -- Do they recognize my values?
2007-10-23 14:04:00 I cannot believe, in reading the news, that the Family Research Council would in any way, shape, or form stand behind candidates such as Giuliani or Romney when there are others who can take the ball and run with it towards a victory. I currently support Mike Huckabee but I freely admit that has shifted somewhat between several candidates, including John McCain and Fred Thompson, that I could get behind and support, if they were to win the nomination. I can not support Rudy or Mitt. It just isn't going to happen. My conscience will not allow it.The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united Sates of America states "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that ALL men are created equal, that they are endowed by their CREATOR with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are LIFE, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."In a time that we might actually be close to moving towards a reversal of Roe v. Wade, with two new judges probably being appointed, why would we no... More About: Summit , Values , Recognize

2007-10-23 14:03:00 I just had to get this posted this morning after I checked my email... Homeschool estore has two great freebies today. The first is a modesty lapbook and the second is a free unit study called Oceanography that is for all age levels. I have never once did a lapbook because I never really understood them but I'm gonna give this one a try and learn for free and I thought ya'll might want to give it a try, too! They also have several great Jamestown studies for a very low price -- most look less than $4. Please pray for us here at the anderklan house today as I am sick. Last night I felt like I had a stack of books on my chest and a really sore/scratchy throat. Homeschooling with Asperger Syndrome
2007-10-23 01:00:00 Our oldest son is 13 and has Asperger Syndrome , a disorder on the autism spectrum. We tried charter schools and public schools with him and he just did not fit in. Part of the reason for this was simply because the teachers were not willing to make accommodations for a normal looking child, even though medically they knew he has challenges. Homeschool works best for us and it is HIGHLY doubtful we ever go another route again. The two single most important things you have to understand when homeschooling a child on the autism spectrum are 1) breaks are needed more often, and 2) slow and steady wins the race. Aspies especially get frustrated more easily because many times these children are on the high functioning side of the spectrum and they are very hard on themselves. It is not uncommon for Caleb to smack himself on the head and say "stupid, stupid, stupid" when he gets something wrong. It's also not uncommon for an incident like this to end with him being so wiped out e... More About: Homeschooling
an example for us
2007-10-22 23:33:00 Acts 17:11 "These were also more noble men than they which were at Thessalonica, which received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so."The people being spoken of in this verse are the Bereans. They did not just take for granted what Paul and Silas spoke to them. They searched in Scriptures daily to make sure what they were saying was right. A good example for us all that I've been trying to share with many of you... More About: Xamp
PRAYER REQUEST PLEASE
2007-10-22 22:22:00 From our friends in California --"I just wanted to let everyone know that we are all just fine. I know you may or may not have heard of the fires going on out here. Our house is in an area that is SAFE! PRAISE GOD for that! As of now our area is not in the evacuation zone. The fires are approximately 30 miles North and a separate fire about 40 miles south. To look outside at my house, you can smell the smoke and see the smoke in the distance. We can not see flames, just smoke, but again we are safe! Pray that we stay safe!" More About: Prayer , Request
Home-made Bread (with a bread machine)
2007-10-22 16:49:00 I've had my bread machine since about 1996. It was given to me as a Christmas present by one of our friends who knew I had my eye on one but also knew we didn't have the money for it either. It has been one of those items in my kitchen that goes through random bursts of use but I can't part with because of how great a tool its been when it does get used. It even went to Okinawa with us!! I have tried to start using it again in recent weeks and am experimenting with recipes. We made two loaves of bread this weekend using a basic egg bread recipe. It turned out to be a very dense bread which worked good for french toast this morning, but felt a bit "thick" when eating it by itself. Today we are going to try a wheat bread recipe. I have always only made a 50/50 wheat recipe (half wheat, half unbleached white) but today I will try a 100% wheat recipe. I am going to be trying this recipe that I found at allrecipes.com. Do you have a good bread machine recipe you like? I'd l... More About: Machine , Home , Made , Bread , Brea

2007-10-22 15:55:00 I'm so excited about this weeks MM because Tiany and I have been assigned to each other for Swap Sisters through the homeschool blog awards sister swap. I've enjoyed reading Tiany's blog for several weeks now and I'm getting to know her even better with this!! 1) HOMESCHOOL I am always working on keeping this organized better. I like what we are using and am happy with our routine for the most part. It's just a constant work in progress :-) Practice piano, guitar, and drums. Take Victoria to Constitution class -- the class is getting very interesting! We are watching a video by the author of the book (Good to be King) but we spend most of our time breaking the constitution down article by article. Part of this includes doing things like watching the political debates on TV because we will have to do a paper sometime soon to be entered for the scholarship. 2) FELLOWSHIP/BIBLE Bake/buy and bag cookies for church visitation (weekly item). Bible based, french language program on a budget
2007-10-21 23:35:00 Many times as homeschoolers we wish to teach our children a foreign language but funds, as well as talent perhaps, hinder us from taking on this challenge. Let me share with you what our family is using to further our horizons and ability to reach others for Christ.I took French for 4 years in high school. I retained quite a bit of it until we moved to Japan and even then when trying to learn Japanese, French words would roll off my tongue. This was quite confusing to our friends! When we moved to Arizona, I tried to learn a bit of Spanish but then Japanese and French words would come out of my mouth so I eventually gave up trying. Our daughter started public high school and she took her first year of French as well. She has always had her eye on fashion and so it makes complete sense for her to learn this language. We came back to homeschooling this year and I really DID NOT think my husband would want us to keep up with French but he surprised me by telling me to teach every... Being a Baptist ala Charles Spurgeon
2007-10-21 19:19:00 "We believe that the Baptist s are the original Christians. We did not commence our existence at the reformation, we were reformers before Luther and Calvin were born; we never came from the Church of Rome, for we were never in it, but we have an unbroken line up to the apostles themselves. We have always existed from the days of Christ, and our principles, sometimes veiled and forgotten, like a river which may travel under ground for a little season, have always had honest and holy adherents. Persecuted alike by Romanists and Protestants of almost every sect, yet there has never existed a Government holding Baptist principles which persecuted others; nor, I believe, any body of Baptists ever held it to be right to put the consciences of others under the control of man..."--Char les H. Vision Forum Give-away at Life In A Shoe!!
2007-10-21 04:36:00 One of my favorite places on the web is Vision Forum because of all the great products they have for Christian Families. Last year our family bought many, many items that have been a huge blessing! Most recently, we've been listening to the Fruit of the Gospel series and Voddie Baucham has especially been a treat for us to listen to. He spells things out very clearly and I like that! Now, KimC. at Life In A Shoe is having a give-away so, of course, I had to enter :-)There are a few rules that you have to follow and you can read them here but basically this is the nuts and bolts of it:1) Go to Vision Forum and download their newest 2008 catalog if you haven't already gotten it in the mail. I'm still waiting on mine -- hey, that's a big deal to a sleuth with eyes that scrunch up when you are staring your computer screen down looking for clues (I already found four, by the way...woo hoo!!)2) Look through the catalog and pick $150 or less of Vision Forum produced m... The Heart of My Home
2007-10-20 17:55:00 " What is your profession?""I'm a stay at home mom.""So you just stay home..."NO, actually, I don't is what I wanted to scream at the NCIS agent who had come to our home to do a background check on one of our old neighbors who was applying for a civilian job with a security clearance. My answer instead was to simply say "I'm a domestic engineer with many jobs, including homeschooling my children, and I work very hard." He chuckled. I bristled. He was lucky I am a Christian and don't find hitting very lady-like.In my regular circle of friends and acquaintances, I have about an equal amount of friends who stay home, work, or go to college. I am the only one that homeschools (other than in the homeschool group I just joined) currently but one or two others have in the past and their children are all grown. unconstitutional bills ... Are our congressmen/women stupid???
2007-10-19 19:27:00 The Constitution of the United States does not provide for anything that would not equally be given to all citizens of the United States. Davey Crockett found this out when he supported a charity bill only to nearly lose his job the next time elections came around. While my heart does ache for poor children who cannot afford health care, I do believe in the constitution of our United States and believe more of our congressmen/women should pay attention to lessons learned!House fails in attempt to override Bush SCHIP veto Posted on Oct 18, 2007 | by Tom StrodeWASHINGTON (BP)--The House of Representatives failed Oct. 18 to override President Bush's veto of a bill expanding a popular children's health insurance program. The House failure came despite two weeks of pressure on Republican members to depart from the president after he vetoed the reauthorization and expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) Oct. 3. teaching our children to become fools
2007-10-18 00:28:00 Normally I refrain from blogging about events that happen around me involving other people if they don't necessarily pertain to my own family. But today I must digress from the norm.We went to the dentist today and as I sat in the waiting room I watched a mom ALLOW her child to kick and hit her just for the fun of it. She did not try to stop her. She did not say she was wrong. She just let her continue. Now, this was not just "love taps" the child was using to try and get momma's attention, like a tug on a pants leg or impatient poking finger. This was full force kicks and punches. The mom laughed! I was appalled! This child needed (and probably has for a while now) a good old fashioned turn you over my knee kind of spanking!God teaches us in the Bible to discipline our children. It's not just this grandiose idea that is there without a purpose. It is to keep our children from foolishness. Here are some verses to direct you to what the scripture says:Proverbs 1... Military Honors and a Vision for the future
2007-10-16 17:46:00 Yesterday I received my prize in the mail for being in the Order of the Jamestown 400, a treasure hunt put on by Vision Forum starting in October of last year and concluding this year with the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the founding of the Jamestown settlement. Our family has grown and been blessed by the many things we learned by being encouraged to read and find out for ourselves the providential hand of God in the early days of this country. Part of the prize was a gift certificate for $25 to VF and I already know what we are getting with it. My husband is a Marine, and I am prior Air Force (even though my views have since changed on how I feel about that, I am proud of my service to our country), and we love history/ military history. We will be purchasing Return of the Daughters video that I posted about here (the vision for the future part) as well as Still Standing, the story of Stonewall Jackson's Christian character (the military honors part) while still being... a blessed and unique family
2007-10-16 17:07:00 This past weekend I received an invitation to a family blog, The Serven Clan, that was going private for the time being. I had purchased a few items from this family through their website, The Genevan Foundation for Cultural Renewal, and so I'm sure that's why I got the invite. I have to tell you, though you won't be able to look at their blog and see for yourself right now, how wonderful and extremely blessed this family is! You can see Christ's love showing through in everything they do! It is so amazing and wonderful to read about them.We are using Hymns for Kith and Kin for our worship time at home. We have been slacking a bit on this with our schedules running us to and fro everyday but hope to get this back on track in the next week or two as most of our night classes are ending.
