To The "Invisible" Moms
2007-12-21 17:36:00 I received this in an email today, and I just wanted to share it with all you other moms out there. It is a moving story of one invisible mom, and it applies to us all. Blessings to all of you!It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and ask to be taken to the store.Inside I'm thinking, 'Can't you see I'm on the phone?' Obviously not; no one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all. I'm invisible. The invisible Mom.Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more: Can you fix this? Can you tie this? Can you open this? Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a clock to ask, 'What time is it?' I'm a satellite guide to answer, 'What number is the Disney Channel?' I'm a car to order, 'Right around 5:30, please.'I was certain that these were the h... Separation of Church and State
2007-12-20 23:57:00 I was watching a program recently that really opened my eyes. Now, I love history, but it's been awhile since I actually studied the Constitution of the United State s, or it's Amendments. What I learned during the program told me alot that I didn't know. This is the full text of the First Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.? The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution Did you notice that there is nothing even related to the phrase "Separation of Church and State"? Did you notice that the First Amendment actually states that Congress will make no law prohibiting the free exercise of religion? Or the right for others to peacably assemble (even in a religious setting)? So where did that term come from? It actually came from Thomas J... More About: Church and State , Bill of Rights
Confessions of a Cheater
2007-12-19 17:05:00 Hello again, Dear Reader! I am so happy to be back here today, to tell you that I am going to be cheating! That's right, I'm going to "cheat" and I'm perfectly happy about it. Ok, I'm not really cheating per se, but I am doing things a little differently.I wrote to you the other day that I would be homeschooling my children, and that was the reason that I would not be able to post for awhile. Well, the homeschooling will not start until the third week in January. So, I have some time to continue to post, at least some of the time. Unfortunately though, I am sick again. (Perhaps, I just wasn't fully recovered from my last sickness, but I'm doing alright- I have bronchitis.)So how am I cheating you ask? Well it turns out that the idea of finding a curriculum for my children all by myself that wouldn't cost anything, and still adhered to the standards required by California, was extremely daunting for me, to say the least. So we have decided to enroll our oldest first i... More About: Confessions , Fess
Good News and Bad News
2007-12-17 19:31:00 Hello My Dear Readers. As you know, I have been sick for a couple days. I am feeling much better now. That is one piece of good news. The second piece of good news is that my husband has grudgingly allowed me to begin home schooling our children. Now for the bad news. Because I will be dedicating most of my home time to teaching my children, for the time being at least, I will not be posting on this blog. This was a concession I made with my husband in order that I could assure my husband that the day would be dedicated to instruction. This is not a completely happy choice for me, but I know that my first responsibility is to minister to my family. I have really enjoyed ministering to others, but my family and my children must take precedence.I will miss you all, and hope that at some point I will find the time to be able to continue to write for this ministry. I do ask for your prayers in this new and a little bit frightening adventure. I also ask that if there are any o... More About: News , Good News , Bad News , Good

Something Fun- A Quiz
2007-12-12 19:00:00 How well do you know your Bible? I found this neat little quiz that a person can take that is supposed to tell how well they know their bible. It actually gives very basic questions, but I will give my results, just for the sake of sharing the link. I do not think I am fantastic, by any means, and I still have A LOT to learnm but it was fun nonetheless. Blessings to you.You know the Bible 100%! Wow! You are awesome! Attending the Masquerade
2007-12-12 17:55:00 There is a masquerade ball occurring around the world, in these times, and we've all been invited. However, I for one will not be attending. You see, I believe in the words of Jesus: 'And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment."And the second, like it, is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." Mark 12:30-31 NKJVThere are those that would have you believe that Christianity is about hate, and God's wrath, but it is NOT! Certainly, God's wrath will be poured out, but God did not call any of us to pour it out for Him.I was asked recently about my opinion of the views and actions fo a certain "church", and I have to say that I am sickened and broken hearted over what they teach to their congregants. Westboro Baptist Church is wholly a cult of hate! Despite the term "baptist" in their name, they are not ... More About: Word , Masquerade
The Son (Author Unknown)
2007-12-12 03:34:00 I received this in an email today. I don't know who the original author is, but I was so moved I had to share it with you all. If you've read it before, I beg your forgiveness. Blessings to you all!"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16 NKJV The SON A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art. They had everything in their collection, from Picasso to Raphael. They would often sit together and admire the great works of art. When the Vietnam conflict broke out, the son went to war. He was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son. About a month later, just before Christmas, there was a knock at the door. A young man stood at the door with a large package in his hands. He said, "Sir, you don't know me, but I am the soldier for whom you... More About: Author , Unknown
My Little Girl
2007-12-10 19:48:00 My Little Girl is not so little anymoreShe has become a young lady and more. She's sweet and she's special,Full of blessings galore! She is my first, and therefore the eldest, the first to make me want to be my best.Tomorrow is her birthday, and I wanted to say,She made the day special, in a wonderful way.Happy Birthday Mercedes, my beautiful daughter, I thank the Lord that He brought her!Okay, well maybe that's not my best work, but it's full of meaning for my little girl. She's not so little anymore, as you can see from the picture below (the last one- she's the one with entirely too much leg showing- but we were at the beach, so I guess it's acceptable.) She was born at 3:40 in the morning on December 11th. So tomorrow, she will be 15 years old! I love you sweetie, and I'm so proud of the little lady you've become! It's no longer just you and I against the world, but you will always have the distinction of being the first to make me want to be so much more than I am. ... More About: Little Girl
Mary Had A Little Lamb
2007-12-10 18:20:00 If you have children, know a child, or were once a child, you've probably heard this nursery rhyme, but in case you haven't, here are the words:Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb.Mary had a little lamb,Its fleece was white as snow. Everywhere that Mary went,Mary went,Mary went.Everywhere that Mary went,The lamb was sure to go. It followed her to school one day, school one day, school one day.It followed her to school one day,Which was against the rules. It made the children laugh and play, laugh and play, laugh and play.It made the children laugh and play,To see a lamb at school. Now that I've given you the words, you may be wondering what would possess me to write about a nursery rhyme. Well, I'll tell you.I was looking at a Nativity Scene the other day, and I was looking at the Mary figurine and the lambs that always seem to be a part of such scenes, and it came to me that the lambs that are part of the scene should not be, but the baby in the manger, is certainly The... The Reason for the Season???
2007-12-07 17:38:00 Now there are a few different views on the reason for this season. Some are seen as Holy Days, and others are seen as a means of remembering culture and virtues. The Jews celebrate Hanukkah, as a remembrance of the re-dedication of the Temple to the Lord, after the Maccabean revolt in 165 BC. Christ ians view this time of year as a time to remember the birth of our Lord. Now, before I write anything further, let me say that my family and I do celebrate Christmas , and we do celebrate as a reason to remember Christ's birth. However, my husband said something the other night that really stuck with me. He said, "I wonder why so many Christians insist on celebrating the birth of Jesus on December 25th" And he has a point. For one, nowhere in the Bible does it state that Jesus was born in December. For two, nowhere does the Bible instruct us to even commemorate His birth in any way.The closest details we have about the timing of His Glorious birth is in Luke 2:8, in which it is s... Communication Breakdown
2007-12-06 19:21:00 If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know that my husband and I are blessed with a very strong marriage, especially when you consider that it is a second marriage for both of us. We have already beaten the odds of us divorcing, based on statistics. However, even with a strong marriage, there are times when even we have a communication breakdown. One such occurence happened recently. Not too long ago I wrote about "being on Mission" and perhaps adopting a child. I also asked that you join me in prayer, so that the Lord would put this on my husband's heart, if this was from Him. As it turns out, I found out last night, that it has been on my husband's heart, for awhile now. He has been carrying around a business card, in his wallet, of an adoption attorney! As soon as we knew we were going to miscarry our last child, he was speaking about it in one of his bible studies, and one of his study partner's wives is the attorney. My husband and I realized last night, that so... Awards and Memes To Catch Up On
2007-12-04 21:42:00 While I was away, I was tagged, and awarded a few times, so I'm going to attempt to get caught up. I'll start with the award. I was awarded The Lift Him Up Award by Carol over at The Bible Thumper's Soapbox, and I thank her for it. Normally, I would pass it on, but since I have so much to catch up on, and I've tagged most all the other bloggers I know in one way or another lately, I'm going to pass on the passing it along. I hope you understand. Here is a picture of the award. Thank you so much Carol, I am humbled, by your award, especially since despite the fact that I often write about myself, I do desire above all to "Lift Him Up."Now for the memes:Seven of '07Dan King at BibleDude and/ or Management by God has started this meme, and I found it very interesting. Christians On Trial
2007-12-03 23:42:00 About a week ago, my husband repeated a question to me that a minister had asked of his congregation. The question was this: "If you were arrested today, and the charges against you were that you were a Christian, would the prosecutor have enough evidence against you to convict you?" I must say, this question had me thinking. Obviously, in this country is not actually a crime to be a Christian, but if it were.....Now I am by no means a legal expert, but I do know that here in the US, for a murder charge, there must be "proof beyond a reasonable doubt". Assuming that the same is true for all "crimes" would there be enough to convict you?Is there evidence of your "crime"?Do you have a bible in your home, and do you read it often? Do you fellowship with other believers? Or do you only maybe have a bible sitting on a shelf somewhere, and call yourself a Christian? Do you spend time in prayer each day?Have you confessed to the "crime"?Have you confessed to God your sin and your acceptanc... More About: Word , Christians , Trial
Woman to Woman: Daddy's Home by Tracy Eyster
2007-12-03 21:45:00 (I received this article from my husband today, who told me I do a great job of this, and thought I might find it amusing to read. I wanted to share it with all my female readers, because it does work!)You'll be amazed at how a mom can set up Daddy as the hero of the house in his children?s eyes ... and you'll be amazed at what this will do for your man.Have you ever thought about what your husband?s day must be like? The grouchy people he no doubt encounters each day, the problems at work, sitting in traffic. I bet many husbands can?t wait to get away from all that nonsense and just get home and be with the family. So what does your husband come home to at the end of a hard workday? If he?s like a lot of husbands, I would imagine that many days, if not most, he comes home to a messy house, preoccupied children, and a grumpy wife.Complete chaos ... anarchy ... madness ... delirious fun ... that?s our home while Daddy?s at work. I believe that a home should be a learning environment,... More About: Home , Woman , Tracy
In The World But Not Of It
2007-12-03 19:08:00 This past week, I spent time with some wonderful people. Almost all were professing Christians. However, I did get a dose of worldliness. I was not altogether comfortable with it. I find that I have really removed myself from the world, as a means of protecting myself, and "guarding my heart". Have you ever found yourself in a similar situation? At times, my experiences this past week were humorous, but at other times, I felt a little like an innocent child, thrust into a band of pirates. Ok, well it wasn't really that bad, but it was certainly uncomfortable at times.Shortly after arriving at my friend's house, I was given a lottery "scratcher." Now, I no longer buy lottery tickets, nor do I gamble. However, I used to enjoy this pasttime. My friend and I used to have an agreement that whenever we had lottery scratchers, that if one of us won, we would split the winnings. So, when I was handed this scratcher, the agreement was that whatever was won, would be split. I was ... More About: World , The World

Me On Mission???
2007-11-25 22:14:00 Today was such a wonderful day in the Lord's presence for me. You see, today at church, God used about 15 young people to break my heart, but in a good way. Today we had some children from World Hope International come to our church and sing songs of praise and tell us their stories. All these children looked to be younger than 14 or so (though I don't know for certain, their ages.) They all had such a heart for God, and His Word! All this despite the fact that most of them were orphans, or abandoned by their parents. You may wonder why this broke my heart, besides the obvious, which is the fact that they were so young, to know such pain. Well I'll tell you. Even before this last pregnancy, I felt God giving me a heart for orphans. I had looked into foster parenting, and even briefly looked into adoption. I felt that though, so far as I know, I am still able to have my own children naturally, there are those children out there that I can have such an impact on, if I will ... Thanksgiving Acrostic
2007-11-23 03:50:00 I got this idea from a devotional I received early Thanksgiving morning. I thought it was such a neat idea, that I decided to make my own. After you've read mine, perhaps you'll try it too. It may not be Thanksgiving Day, anymore, by the time you read this, or try it; but I think that every day is a good time to give thanks. If you do participate with your own acrostic, please do let me know, and I'll be happy to post a link to your as well. What Would Jesus Say...To Me
2007-11-22 22:12:00 I was recently tagged by Isaiah, for this very interesting meme. The purpose of this meme is to get us to think about what Jesus would say to one of us, if we were to meet Him face to face today. I usually do introspective well, but I've had difficulty with this one, I must admit. Maybe because I don't have the pure heart of Jesus. Maybe becuase I don't really want to know what Jesus would say to me. I don't like feeling like I don't measure up. So, after thinking about it, probably more than I wanted to, here is what I think Jesus would say to me.He would tell me that I need to quit seeing myself as "all that." That though I spend time in His Word, and time in prayer, that I still have a LONG way to go, before I understand even a half of what I need to know.He would tell me that He loves me, 'warts' and all, but that the 'warts' will eventually have to be removed, before they become cancerous. He would tell me to study more and ask less questions. That I can find the answer...
A Discussion and Study of Revelation and "The Rapture"
2007-11-21 22:46:00 I am in the middle of a verse by verse study of the book of Revelation . This book, though I thought I understood most of it, still left me feeling a little confused about some things. Here I want to share what I have learned and hope you will join in the discussion.Revelations is a book of sequences. It is very chronological, both literally and prophetically. The first three chapters of the book of Revelation reveal John's visions of Jesus and the Church Age (the Church Age being from the time of the first Pentecost until the "Rapture " of the Church.) Chapter 4 and on reveals things to come in the future. Revelation 1:19 states it this way: "Write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after this."While reading the book of Revelation and studying it, I came to the realization that though the word "Rapture" does not occur in the English translations of the bible (though the Latin version "rapere" does occur in Latin trans... I'm Thankful to be A Christian Because...
2007-11-20 16:20:00 This holiday finds me for the first time, in I don't know how long, with nowhere to go for the holiday; and I am thankful for that. In a blended family with parents that come from blended families, that is surely a rarity. Don't get me wrong, I love visiting my various family members, but sometimes it just gets so tiring. Anyway, that's not what I want to write about today. Today I want to write about why I am thankful to be a Christian . This is part of a Group Writing Project hosted by On the Horizon, The Next Step and Myself. There are so many reasons to be thanful to be a Christian, that I am at a loss as to where to start, so I'll start the same way I've learned to pray at times. Using my hand, I'll use each of the digits to pray for and be thanful for something today.Starting with my thumb, the digit closest to me, I am thankful that being a Christian means that I am blessed with a wonderful husband and four beautiful children. You may wonder, how does that relate t... More About: Hank
My Lentil Soup Recipe by Shalene
2007-11-16 22:23:00 I've made lentil soup a few times in my life, but always used my mother's recipe. She always got rave reviews, so I stuck with it. However, I wanted to make some today, and couldn't find my recipe. I also didn't have the ham hocks that she liked to use. So I struck out on my own today. Here is MY recipe (they are the best I've ever made, in my own humble opinion.)Ingredients1 lg yellow onion1 lb of bacon2 cloves of garlic (or 2-3 TBS of garlic powder, whichever you prefer)2 14.5 oz cans Italian style Stewed Tomatoes16 oz bag of lentils5 cups water2 beef boullion cubes (or 2 cups of beef broth)Chop bacon into small pieces. Brown bacon in large pot, dice onion and garlic very small and cook with bacon. Add 5 cups of water (I did not drain the bacon first, but you may if you like.) Add rinsed lentils. Add juice from cans of Tomatoes, smash tomatoes into smaller chunks. Add salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 30 minutes. All done!! ... Who I Look Like
2007-11-15 19:18:00 I know I am a child of God. So that heritage is a given now. However, throughout my lifetime, I have been compared to and been told I look like a number of celebrities. When I was a child, I was told I looked like Brooke Shields. I think it was because of my nice bushy eyebrows. (I can never seem to keep up on the tweezing!) When I was a teen/ young adult, I was told that I looked like Julia Roberts. This one was because of my height, hair color, and the fact that she and I had the same big, curly hair. The last celebrity I was told I looked like was on my honeymoon, a waiter at the airport said I looked like Geena Davis. "But not when she was chubby. More like from that spy movie she just did." (This was the movie "The Long Kiss Goodbye")I don't think I look like any of them anymore, and when we still had cable, every once in awhile I would watch "Look Alike" and wondered, if I auditioned for it, who would I be a look alike for?So because I was really curious, I found t... 7 More Weird Facts About Me
More articles from this author:2007-11-15 18:04:00 As though yesterday's weird facts weren't enough, I did get "officially" tagged after I wrote them. So here I go again, in the spirit of actually taking part in the meme. BusyDad tagged me for this one. Thanks BusyDad. :)I'm not sure these will be particularly insightful, or inspiring, but since I have blogger's block right now (actually I think I have too many ideas of what to blog about, so none of them will fully form) I'll just go with it.1. I can touch the tip of my nose with my tongue. Incidentally, all my children can too, and in fact my son can place his almost on top of his nose. They like to tease me and pretend to pick their noses with it. So gross!!2. For my height, I have tiny hands and feet. My 11 year old and 14 year old's hands are already bigger than mine. (Maybe the tiny feet are why I'm so clumsy. See this post.3. I cannot touch, smell, or eat mushrooms without being sick.
