Halloween- To Celebrate or Not by Shalene
2007-09-28 18:24:00 What is your view of Halloween ? If you are a Christian, you probably know some of the origins of this "holiday." Let me say here and now, I DO NOT consider it a holiday, as the root of holiday is Holy Day. This day is far from that! If you are a Christian, perhaps you discourage your children from wearing bloody, gory or evil costumes, but you may allow them to participate in "Harvest Festivals" in your church, as a substitute for the "evil" practices of Halloween. I ask you now, Why?Why do you not spend the evening in prayer, fighting "against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." For we are "not fighting against flesh and blood".Ephesians 6:12 NKJV My view is not a popular one, even in my own household, but this year, I will stand my ground, as much as I am able. I will not participate in this day's festivities (or any that happen just prior for the same purpose.) I do... More About: Celebrate , Ween , Lene , Allo

Don't Worry Be Happy by Shalene
2007-09-27 17:46:00 Most of you probably remember the song by Bobby McFerrin- "Dont' Worry Be Happy " from the late 80's (am I showing my age here?) And in it, he doesn't give us any Scriptural basis for this, per se. But did you know that there is a Scriptural basis for these words?I was recently ministering to a friend of mine who was worried about some health issues she is having and I asked her if she would like me to share some scriptures with her that she could meditate on, while she was awaiting the results of some tests she had done. This is what I shared with her.Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God Philippians 4:6 NKJVTherefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body.......... Matthew 6:25 NKJVTherefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day [is] its own trouble. Matthew 6:34... More About: Lene , Hale
Don't Blow My Heaven by Shalene
2007-09-26 23:06:00 Hubby and I were having a discussion the other day about Heaven and what it's like and what it'll be like and how we'll be when we are there. I was telling him that they're will be no more tears, no one will be given in marriage....and that's where he stopped me and told me "Don't Blow My Heaven!" (He really didn't like the idea that we wouldn't live in our own little houses with our own little families like we do here, only in perfect harmony all the time.)Also, he said he's not ready to go there because he hasn't reached his brother or his father or a host of other people that mean alot to him, and neither have I, and we both want that. Also he said that he would be sad for the people that aren't there. I said "No you won't. There is no more sorrow in Heaven." So for those of you that feel this same way....quit reading now. You won't like what I have to say, or better yet, what the Bible has to say on this subject. And for those LDS friends of mine, you may not agre... More About: Lene , Hale

God Is Our Provision by Shalene
2007-09-22 18:49:00 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as [it is] in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Matthew 6:9-13 KJV I have discovered something recently, that I don't know how I managed to miss in all this time. That is: the concept of "daily bread". I never really got what this meant. Now, for a little background: some of you know that I grew up in a household that was Catholic, and did learn some of the prayers that went along with that practice, and learned how to say my rosaries, and everything. However, it was always by rote, that I said them. They meant nothing. I did not realize that one of the prayers- the Lord's Prayer, was something that was actually in the Bible. I also did not know that "bread" ... More About: God , Provision , Lene , Hale
Awards and Such
2007-09-22 18:10:00 Hello All,I am going to post right now about an award I received from Leeann from The World Through The Eyes of Me. I thank you very much for this award Leeann, and I am extremely humbled by it. However, I must say. I'm becoming a little embarrassed by all the awards on my blog and all the posts I've written about them. This blog was never intended for my glory, but for His, so therefore, though I am grateful for the award, I am not going to post it on my blog, outside of this post, nor am I going to pass it on. There are so many people that make me smile, that it just wouldn't be fair to all the others that I can't pass it on to. Also, I wonder if there aren't others that may feel the same way I do about displaying awards on their blogs as well. Thank you everyone for the awards that you have given me, and please dont' think me ungrateful. I just want to get back to the purpose of this blog. Blessings to you. May the peace of the Lord be upon you. Forever In Him, ... More About: Awards
Christian/ Muslim What's the Difference? by Shalene
2007-09-21 16:58:00 Have you ever wondered just what it is that separates the Islamic religion from Christian ity ? I have; especially lately. I have been wondering about this lately, because I have a friend that is Christian, but her husband is Muslim . We were talking one day about the difficulties that presents for their marriage. I cannot begin to fathom having a mixed- belief marriage, and one that seems so at odds with one another. So I have been doing some research on the subject. I still am, by far, quite ignorant about the Muslim religion, but here are some things I have learned.I learned a while back that the origins of both "races"- Jews and Muslims came from the same man. Father Abraham. That the Jews were, as we know descended from Isaac. And the Muslims (Meccans) were descended from Ishmael. What makes this so interesting to me, is that I place myself in the proverbial shoes of Ishmael, and think about his lot in life. For thirteen years, he is thought of as the heir to all the promises that... More About: Judaism , Torah

What My Husband Did by Shalene
2007-09-20 17:09:00 There are many days when I wonder what I ever did to deserve such a perfect mate for me. I am amazed daily at the plans God has for my life, and how He goes about setting them in motion. Yesterday was just such a day. My husband did something that I NEVER would have expected him to do, and yet by doing it, he showed me just how much he loves me.What did he do, you ask? He started a blog. Yes that what I said. He started a blog. Why does that show his love for me? Well to know the full reason, you would have had to have been a fly on the wall in our home since May. Let's just say that my blogging and website have not always been welcome additions to our lives. We have worked through our differences regarding them, for the most part. However, my husband was getting the impression that I had a whole other "life" that was part of what I did online. And to a certain extent, he was right. Most of my "friends" are now online, and he knows very few of them. I talk to them som... More About: Husband , Lene , Hale

An Awesome Responsibility by Shalene
2007-09-19 17:24:00 Have you ever stopped and thought about the awesome responsibility the God places upon your shoulders the moment you are blessed with a child? While it is so true that children are a blessing from the Lord, there is really only one reason why it can be considered such a blessing. It is a blessing because through the birth of our own children, can we get just the slightest inkling of His divine love for us, as His children. Think about it. What are just some of HIS many names?El Shaddai: The CaregiverJehovah-Jireh: Jehovah will provideJehovah-Shamma: The Lord is PresentGod is our eternal Father, and gives us our blueprint and instruction for being parents, ourselves. How many people have you met that had their own faith influenced by the love and treatment of their own parents- negative or positive? Today my prayer is that I am even a fraction of the parent that He is. These are the scriptures that I will be meditating on (again) throughout this pregnancy. Blessed be the God a... Strange Things Are Happening by Shalene
2007-09-18 22:25:00 Pregnancy doesn't just wreak havoc with your body and your hormones, but it also plays funny games with your mind. Anyone that has been there knows this to be true. You have the strangest dreams, and while you're awake, you seem to lose all coherent thought for most of the day. This is showing itself to be true for me already. I fell asleep last night composing a post and/ or article for me to place in the Women's Ministry newsletter for my church (and I seem to recall that it was a good one), but I didn't write it down- trusting that I would remember what I wanted to write in the morning. That didn't happen. Instead, the only 2 thoughts in my head when I woke up were: Focus on the Positive (a song but I can't remember the name of the singer I'm thinking of) and the Scarlet Pimpernel. Don't ask me how they are related, because I REALLY don't know. I'm laughing as I type this, because it is just SO strange! It has been forever since I watched the Scarlet Pimpernel-... What Is A Disciple? by Shalene
2007-09-18 21:38:00 What exactly does it mean to be a disciple of Christ? Does it mean to merely share the Word of God, or does it mean to share God with others? Simply put, to me, being a disciple of Christ means to not only lead other to Him, but to help others to lead even more "others" to Him. Yes, it is part of the Great Commission- Jesus' last instruction to us to share the Good News with all. Therefore, I take my role in this instruction very seriously. Because of this, I am beyond humbled to have been one of the first recipients of a brand new award being passed out. It is the "Mathetes Award", created by Dan King of Management by God to recognize those who take to heart the Great Commission and further God's Kingdom by creating more disciples for Him. According to Dan (and I trust him on this) mathetes is the Greek word for disciple. The rules for the award, as posted by it's creator are as follows:In the spirit of this award, the rules are simple. Winners of this award must pick fiv... More About: Disciple , Disc , Lene , Hale

Thinking of Girls' Names
2007-09-17 21:41:00 Yes, it's a bit early to be thinking of names, I mean, come on! I am only 1 month pregnant, but we're doing it anyway. Then of course there's the fact that I'll probably change my mind 10 times before the baby's born. We already know what we'll name the baby if it's a boy, so no problems there. But a girl, well that's the fun part. I like unusual names. My husband likes to make up unusual names. So out of the four children we already have, only one has a very common name, and the other three have uncommon, if not unheard of, names. I like it that way, since mine is unusual as well. Here are some of the names that I've come across, and thought I'd put it to you readers. What names do you like? (I'm including what the names mean if I know.)Aislinn-"a dream, a vision, inspirition"Quinn- "wise, queen, 5th born"Aithne-"little fire"Caoimhe-"gentleness, beauty, grace"Shyla-"loyal to God, strong"Ariene-"silvery"I used to like Rhiannon, until I found out it meant "witch.... Choosing This Day by Shalene
2007-09-14 16:39:00 ...choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15 NKJV (emphasis mine) In the days of Noah, there was sin rampant on the earth. (Genesis 6:5) Only Noah was found to be righteous. (Genesis 6:8) Why is that? Because he walked with God. (Genesis 6:9) What does it mean then, to "walk with God"? It means to choose every day, every moment to be in continued communion with God. Nelson's NKJV Study Bible describes this verb halak as having connotations "of a habitual manner of life or a constant relationship with God."I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Galations 5:16 NKJVHe who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked. 1 John 2:6 NKJV How then can we be righteous in the eyes of the Lord? By walking with Him contin... The Monster Named "Rape" written by Shalene
2007-09-12 17:48:00 Today I am grieving for my friend. I found out yesterday that she had been raped by someone she knew and trusted. It was not a date rape- they were supposed to have a strictly professional relationship. Much like a doctor- patient relationship. She called me yesterday and told me the "Reader's Digest Version" and she is still hurting very much. She is afraid to go home (he knows where she lives), she is afraid to answer her own phone (afraid he will call.) It reminds me of what pedophiles do to the children they assault. I am so saddened for her.I have never been the victim of rape, but let's just say I have a unique understanding of something of what she is going through. I am happy to say there are a few blessings that have come from this, despite the fact that one would think none could come from it. One, she is aware that this happened to her body, not her soul, and that she can use this horrible experience as her testimony to the comforts and the glory of the Lord. ... Entitlement and Marriage by Shalene
2007-09-11 21:59:00 There is a plethora of advice out there for marriages these days. We are all aware of just how important a healthy marriage is, especially in light of the high divorce rates in both Christian and non- Christain marriages. We learn about "Love Languages", we learn about "seasons" of marriages, we learn about "promises" we can make to one another, but I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say that the only advice and wisdom we need to have healthy marriages can be found in the Bible, if we will but apply it in our lives, and apply it consistently.Mutual Submission- Having a Servant's Heart Ephesians 5:18-29 NKJV These verses tell us how we are to behave towards our spouses. Women are to submit to their husbands, as they do to the Lord. Knowing that a faithful man will be mutually submissive in his love for her. It's not difficult to be submissive to a faithful man, but what if he's not, or not enough? What then? Well, to be blunt: You still have to do it. Just because one person... My Beautiful Blue by Shalene
2007-09-10 16:32:00 I met her 2 years and 2 days ago, on the day of her birth. Her name is Syanne Jolie, and loosely translated it means "Beautiful Blue " (cyan is a shade of blue and is how her name is pronounced.) She is my youngest daughter. And one of the beauties of my life. I am writing this post today as a birthday gift to her, though she can't yet read, or work a computer (though she does try.) :) Happy Birthday, my Beautiful Blue!! I love you so much! You are my little lifesaver! You came along at a time when I needed you so much! The Lord blessed me with you, and used you to strengthen my faith when I needed it so badly. He used you to help heal my grief, and to help make me whole again. He used you to help me see what a blessing all of you children are to me. Thank you for being my little lifesaver. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.
