What Is A Disciple? by Shalene
2007-09-18 21:38:00 What exactly does it mean to be a disciple of Christ? Does it mean to merely share the Word of God, or does it mean to share God with others? Simply put, to me, being a disciple of Christ means to not only lead other to Him, but to help others to lead even more "others" to Him. Yes, it is part of the Great Commission- Jesus' last instruction to us to share the Good News with all. Therefore, I take my role in this instruction very seriously. Because of this, I am beyond humbled to have been one of the first recipients of a brand new award being passed out. It is the "Mathetes Award", created by Dan King of Management by God to recognize those who take to heart the Great Commission and further God's Kingdom by creating more disciples for Him. According to Dan (and I trust him on this) mathetes is the Greek word for disciple. The rules for the award, as posted by it's creator are as follows:In the spirit of this award, the rules are simple. Winners of this award must pick fiv... More About: Disciple , Disc , Lene , Hale

Thinking of Girls' Names
2007-09-17 21:41:00 Yes, it's a bit early to be thinking of names, I mean, come on! I am only 1 month pregnant, but we're doing it anyway. Then of course there's the fact that I'll probably change my mind 10 times before the baby's born. We already know what we'll name the baby if it's a boy, so no problems there. But a girl, well that's the fun part. I like unusual names. My husband likes to make up unusual names. So out of the four children we already have, only one has a very common name, and the other three have uncommon, if not unheard of, names. I like it that way, since mine is unusual as well. Here are some of the names that I've come across, and thought I'd put it to you readers. What names do you like? (I'm including what the names mean if I know.)Aislinn-"a dream, a vision, inspirition"Quinn- "wise, queen, 5th born"Aithne-"little fire"Caoimhe-"gentleness, beauty, grace"Shyla-"loyal to God, strong"Ariene-"silvery"I used to like Rhiannon, until I found out it meant "witch.... Choosing This Day by Shalene
2007-09-14 16:39:00 ...choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15 NKJV (emphasis mine) In the days of Noah, there was sin rampant on the earth. (Genesis 6:5) Only Noah was found to be righteous. (Genesis 6:8) Why is that? Because he walked with God. (Genesis 6:9) What does it mean then, to "walk with God"? It means to choose every day, every moment to be in continued communion with God. Nelson's NKJV Study Bible describes this verb halak as having connotations "of a habitual manner of life or a constant relationship with God."I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Galations 5:16 NKJVHe who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked. 1 John 2:6 NKJV How then can we be righteous in the eyes of the Lord? By walking with Him contin... The Monster Named "Rape" written by Shalene
2007-09-12 17:48:00 Today I am grieving for my friend. I found out yesterday that she had been raped by someone she knew and trusted. It was not a date rape- they were supposed to have a strictly professional relationship. Much like a doctor- patient relationship. She called me yesterday and told me the "Reader's Digest Version" and she is still hurting very much. She is afraid to go home (he knows where she lives), she is afraid to answer her own phone (afraid he will call.) It reminds me of what pedophiles do to the children they assault. I am so saddened for her.I have never been the victim of rape, but let's just say I have a unique understanding of something of what she is going through. I am happy to say there are a few blessings that have come from this, despite the fact that one would think none could come from it. One, she is aware that this happened to her body, not her soul, and that she can use this horrible experience as her testimony to the comforts and the glory of the Lord. ... Entitlement and Marriage by Shalene
2007-09-11 21:59:00 There is a plethora of advice out there for marriages these days. We are all aware of just how important a healthy marriage is, especially in light of the high divorce rates in both Christian and non- Christain marriages. We learn about "Love Languages", we learn about "seasons" of marriages, we learn about "promises" we can make to one another, but I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say that the only advice and wisdom we need to have healthy marriages can be found in the Bible, if we will but apply it in our lives, and apply it consistently.Mutual Submission- Having a Servant's Heart Ephesians 5:18-29 NKJV These verses tell us how we are to behave towards our spouses. Women are to submit to their husbands, as they do to the Lord. Knowing that a faithful man will be mutually submissive in his love for her. It's not difficult to be submissive to a faithful man, but what if he's not, or not enough? What then? Well, to be blunt: You still have to do it. Just because one person... Tuesday Mornings
2007-09-11 16:04:00 Hello All,My post this morning is just an FYI. I will not have time to post on most Tuesday mornings for a while. I am starting a study of Beth Moore's book "A Woman's Heart God's Dwelling Place." I look forward to my weekly sessions, but that means very little time on the computer in the morning. So, that said, I may have something for you later in the day, and sometimes, I may not. Love you all, and prayers for all of you. My Beautiful Blue by Shalene
2007-09-10 16:32:00 I met her 2 years and 2 days ago, on the day of her birth. Her name is Syanne Jolie, and loosely translated it means "Beautiful Blue " (cyan is a shade of blue and is how her name is pronounced.) She is my youngest daughter. And one of the beauties of my life. I am writing this post today as a birthday gift to her, though she can't yet read, or work a computer (though she does try.) :) Happy Birthday, my Beautiful Blue!! I love you so much! You are my little lifesaver! You came along at a time when I needed you so much! The Lord blessed me with you, and used you to strengthen my faith when I needed it so badly. He used you to help heal my grief, and to help make me whole again. He used you to help me see what a blessing all of you children are to me. Thank you for being my little lifesaver. You are as sweet as the candy! May the blessings of the Lord be upon you, my little one! I pray for your continued growing in the Lord, that you continue to say your "Amens" (that... If We Are the Body
2007-09-06 17:01:00 Just a song to carry the remainder of the week. Blessings to you! My prayers will be with you.but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. The Future Of Our Daughters by Shalene
2007-09-05 16:06:00 I have a problem. I have three daughters. No, that in itself is not a problem. What is the problem, is that I'm having difficulty reconciling my beliefs about the woman's place in the home, and college educations for my daughters. Now, that's not to say that I don't think an education is important. I know that it is, and the fact of the matter is that, though I pray it is never known by my children, that divorce and death of a spouse could be realities for each of them. For this reason, alone, they should have something to fall back on. However, my problem is that I have a hard time encouraging my eldest daughter to pursue a career as a doctor. That's alot of education and expense that I wonder is really necessary. It's not that I'm not proud of her ambition. I am. I just wonder is there really a purpose in spending that much money, if she should be in the home as the caregiver in the family? I know what some of you may be thinking, and that is how can I sit there and say that... More About: Future , The Future , Daughters , Lene , Hale

Explaining the Nephilim by Shalene
2007-09-04 18:06:00 NOW it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose. And the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years." There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. Genesis 6:2-4 NKJV (emphasis mine)I've always wondered who the Nephilim were and how they came to be. For awhile, I was confused and thought they were perhaps some other creation that God made outside the Garden of Eden, but that just didn't seem biblical, so I've attempted to find the answers, that I'd like to share with you here. What the verses above suggest is that the Nephilim were actually the ... More About: Lene , Hili , Hale
The Secret Behind "The Secret" by Shalene
2007-09-03 17:09:00 For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ [as] coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. 2 John 1:7 NKJVLet me say first of all, that I have not read this book, nor do I plan to. I make a point of guarding my heart against such things, and just want to share the knowledge I have about this serious danger to Christ-like living. That's right "The Secret " is nothing but another of the deceiver's lies meant to tempt you by his half-truths. The "law of attraction" is not how God works. Read this excerpt from ChristianityToday.com:The Secret, you see, is all about the self?it's for the self, obsessed with the self. Newsweek offers this critique: "On an ethical level, The Secret appears deplorable. It concerns itself almost entirely with a narrow range of middle-class concerns?houses, cars, and vacations, followed by health and relationships, with the rest of humanity a very distant sixth."Since when does humanity come in sixth in t... It Sounded Like a Good Idea by Shalene
2007-09-01 22:46:00 Taking the last long weekend of the summer to go camping with my two youngest children and my husband sounded like a good idea. It sounded like a really good idea when my husband suggested it. Getting out of the 110 degree heat, having some quality family time, and communing with nature sounded like so much fun! We used to do it all the time, but have since quit doing it so much, and I missed it.So, I scrambled around for 3 hours getting all our camping gear together, clothes and food for the weekend, and even packed a little extra in case we wanted to stay more than one night. I had such high hopes. I didn't bother with the play yard, for the baby to sleep in, because I figured she would just sleep with us anyway, and I'd do just like I did at SWC when it came time for bed. It sounded like such a good idea.I did take all four children to SWC with me at the beginning of August and it all worked out ok. Even my youngest's unnatural affinity for her crib worked out. For Our Fallen Heroes by Shalene
2007-08-31 04:45:00 Tim McGraw- "If You're Reading This"My husband shared this video with me last night, and it made me cry. It made me cry for all those families that won't see their sons, daughters, husbands, wives, fathers and mothers come home, because they've gone Home. I wanted to take a moment and honor those souls that fight for our freedoms. Now, I have a lot of feelings about war. I would prefer to pretend it didn't exist, honestly. I would prefer to forget that we're in the midst of one. I don't watch the news, and generally steer clear of anything that might be remotely negative. I'm a bit of an ostrich that way. (You know, sticking my head in the sand.) My eldest daughter told me a couple years ago that she wanted to be in the armed forces and I became sick with dread! How much more so must those other mothers and wives feel when their family members join. And yet they are proud of what they are doing. I may not like to think about it, but I am proud of them too. Joyful Authenticity by Shalene
2007-08-30 17:33:00 When I began writing and attempting to minister to others through my website and blogs, it was because of the leading of the Holy Spirit. I was led to share my life and my life experiences in a way that would glorify the Lord, and Him alone. I do this by being authentic and transparent in my writings. I share anything about myself, without fear of condemnation. It does not take courage on my part, because I have faith that the Lord has forgiven all my sins, and is shaping me into the person I am to become. He has also used my past to shape me into who I am today. I belong to the most wonderful church- Clovis Hills. Part of their philosophy is to live in Joyful Authenticity ."Healthy things grow. They are fed, pruned, bear fruit and experience a harvest. If they don?t, they wither, shrink and eventually die. Our spiritual lives are no different. They don?t just grow on their own, they have to be nurtured, cared for and invested in.God desires to transform our lives into reflections of... More About: Lene , Then , Hale
I've Got Marriage on My Mind by Shalene
2007-08-29 16:20:00 In my efforts to be ready for the marriage of my friend and her fiance, I must admit that I'm thinking about marriage quite a bit. I'm thinking about the fact that Christian divorce rates are actually, in come cases, higher than that of non-Christians! I'm thinking that there must be something that we're not remembering. I'm thinking about my own marriage and how blessed we are to have such a strong marriage, seven years after we met, especially with the way it started out.My husband and I were not believers when we met. My divorce from my first spouse was not even final yet (we had only been separated for a year.) My husband's (to- be) divorce was not final yet either. And yet, we began a relationship that included premarital sex. We had a child together out of wedlock, and we lived together before marriage. Now add all those together with the simple fact that it was to be a second marriage for both of us, and it would seem that it was doomed from the start. And it could have... A Blessed Marriage by Shalene
2007-08-28 16:17:00 "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." Ephesians 5:31NKJV Some of you know from reading my post "The Blind Leading the Blind" that I am now an ordained minister. You would also know then, that I had no intention of using the titles that go along with that. However, aside from curiosity about how easy it would be to do, I was intrigued by the thought of being able to minister to people that I wouldn't ordinarily be able to reach because of restrictions to their access. Such as prisoners, and hospital patients that I am not related to. I also kind of liked the idea of maybe being allowed to marry people. But I hadn't pursued that at all- until yesterday. You see, I have a very good friend that I was blessed to bring to the Lord a couple years ago. She has since moved to Oregon, but has become stronger in her faith. I like to think that part of that is my influence. (So I've got a little bit of ... More About: Marriage , Blessed , Lene , Hale
Becoming a Titus 2 Woman by Shalene
2007-08-27 17:05:00 the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things-- that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. Titus 2:3-5 NKJV On Friday, I left you with requests for your prayers and for the hope that I would continue to write my inspirational thoughts for all to read. Well, today, I'm back to say that after much thought, prayer, and discussion, I here and I'm staying, until I'm led by God to quit. That moment has not come. Yeah!!!!What I have learned this weekend is that it is not an all or nothing endeavor that I employ. Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman by Shalene
2007-08-25 16:34:00 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life. Proverbs 31:10-12 NKJVI am praying each day that I become more and more like the woman described in Proverbs 31. A virtuous wife, caring for her husband and children and fearing the Lord. I fear perhaps I am failing. I spend 3-4 hours each day reading the words of my friends and fellow bloggers, and writing my own posts; and I find that I am not spending an equal amount of time with my family. Therefore, I am praying that the Lord give me guidance as to how I can continue to witness and minister to those that read this blog, and yet still place my God and my family first. Though the words of this blog, in one way serve the Lord, by not placing my family in it's correct priority, I am not serving Him as I should.
