The Presence Has A Price!
2008-04-22 14:15:00 As I was reading through 2 Samuel this morning, something struck my heart. And when I say struck, I mean STRUCK. Not a tap, but a piercing strike! The portion of 2 Samuel I was reading was where David was bringing the Ark of the Covenant in to Jerusalem. And as most of you may or may not know, this meant the returning of the Glory of God, the very Presence of God, back to the people that served the LORD God.However, as it was being returned, there was an incident where a man is struck dead. Dead. And simply because he touched the Ark. He didn't even do it irreverently. He did it so that it would not fall off of the cart. Yet, he was struck dead.We could go on all day long as to WHY he was struck... but that's not what hit my heart. What got me thinking was the COST that was paid in order for the Glory to be returned. A man lost his life so that the Presence of the LORD would be amongst His people again.Jesus laid down His life so that the Presence of God could dwell within His peop... More About: Price

Weekend: Expelled, Downtown and Baptisms
2008-04-21 15:32:00 What a great weekend! It seriously FLEW by. Expelled I started off the weekend by taking a couple of students to see the new movie Expelled. What a great movie! I highly recommend every one go to the theatre and see it (not only to watch it but to support it). Ben Stein has noticed an increasing pattern amongst the scientific community concerning those that even mentioned Intelligent Design were "expelled" thus he made a movie about it to show what was going on.He even has a brief interview with Richard Dawkins, the author of "The God Delusion". In that interview, Dawkins is asked where he thinks life came from, his answer seemed to imply that he thought life was possibly seeded on earth by another being, but definitely not a god. Interesting.Ben Stein took the whole process a step further and showed how one nation and one man (Adolf Hitler) who took Darwinism and Evolution a bit too far... and proposed the question "could it happen again?"If there's one thing Christians can learn fr... Quotes From Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire, Pt 4
2008-04-17 16:44:00 Here's the final installment from quotes from Jim Cymbala's book Fresh Wind , Fresh Fire . I *highly* recommend you read it. It will really stir you up... at least it did me. :)Here are the previous quote pages from this week: part 1, part 2, part 3."Bigger is not better if it comes at the expense of disowning the truth or grieving the Holy Spirit.""If you want to build something that will endure on Judgment Day, the work is much more costly.""What gains unbelievers' attention and stirs the heart is seeing the gospel expressed in power.""The gospel must be preached with the involvement of the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven.""God is not nearly as enamored with the performance of pulpiteering as He is with humble words that manifest His presence to the soul.""Christianity is not predominantly a teaching religion... The teaching of sound doctrine is a prelude, if you will, to the supernatural.""If you have only the Word, you dry up. If you have only the Spirit, you blow up, But if ... More About: Quotes

2008-04-16 12:30:00 Here's a 3rd dose of quotes from Jim Cymbala's book: Fresh Wind , Fresh Fire . For the other parts, click here for part 1 and here for part 2."The Bible speaks more about resisting the devil than it does binding him.""We should not expect to discover new shortcuts in the spiritual realm.""We are too easily distracted from the call to simply wait on the LORD.""As a minister, I firmly believe that I am not allowed to preach what is not in the Bible.""No one has the right to adjust the Gospel or revise God's plan for His church.""No church, including the one I pastor, should be measured by it's attendance.""Every experience must measure up with the Bible. Some say that is going too far (being too strict), but if we have lived too close to the Word, we will settle that with the LORD when we meet Him in the air." - William Seymour"People say the church today is 'growing and expanding.' Yes, it's ten miles wide now--and about a quarter-inch deep." - Leonard RavenhillMore to come! More About: Quotes
