Mind Dump... Simple
2008-03-11 21:52:00
Man has it been a busy day!Prepared my sermon for Ground Level tomorrow night.Studied (more so crammed) for a final exam for a college class.Went to the dentist.Took the exam.Got several little tasks completed. Now I'm writing some of these thoughts down.I've been reading my Bible through a year... and I've landed in the beginnings of Deuteronomy. I'm so amazed at God's faithfulness and grace. It gets me every time. How about you?All God wanted from Israel was their devotion. He wanted their simple obedience. Check out Deuteronomy 4:2. He says "don't add or substract from the commands I give you... just obey them."Simple obedience is where it's at friend. The Gospel isn't complicated. It's rather simple.Jesus said that we should become like children. That sounds simple.Jesus said that we should make ourselves last... be the servant of all. That sounds simple.Jesus said that signs would follow those who believe. That sounds pretty simple. No hocus pocus. No do this to get this. ...

Man in waiting...
2008-03-10 22:31:00
Thought I'd use a play on words... I'm obviously a completely married man... but there is something else that I'm on the edge of my seat about... and that is the ability to stream live video from my mobile phone. Now what I will do with that ability once I get it, I'm not quite sure. But I still think it will be a nice thing to have. There are a few sites I'm keeping tabs on that are working on or already have mobile streaming video (but limited to a certain brand of phone). Here's the sites: - qik.com - next2friends.com - kyte.tv - flixwagon.comCheck them out... maybe your phone is supported and you just don't know it. ;)

Saving the Sex and More...
2008-03-09 11:32:00
Unfortunately, I somewhat dropped the ball on my little series on how my wife and I saved our sex till we got married. You can check out post 1 here and post 2 here. There isn't really too much more to add to the story except for the "communication part". We talked about how we wanted to save our sex and WHY. We talked about the boundaries we wanted to establish. And we agreed on them together. :)It is possible and quite feasible to walk in purity and to save one's sex until marriage. It's simply walking in submission to Holy Spirit and living a life that's worthy of the calling. It's a bummer how our society has downgraded sex and made it a convenience store commodity... when Jesus created sex to be honored and cherished between a husband and wife.Enough about sex... as if there aren't enough people on their soapboxes about it... yet it seems like we don't discuss it enough in the church... maybe we talk about it the "wrong" way!?I've got a couple of thoughts for posts for th...

How We Saved Our Sex, Pt 2
2008-03-06 14:33:00
Here's more about how my wife, Hannah and I saved our sex for until we got married. Part 1 can be found here. Again I want to stress, we are not any more "holier-than-though" simply because we did not have sex with each other before we go married. I just want to be an encouragement and declare that it is possible to save your sex for marriage (and well worth it too)! So, how we saved our sex...Another boundary we established was one that actually "carried over" from our ministry school. While in school, the "rule" was that guys could not be in girl's apartments and girls could not be in guy's apartments. We even had to get permission to have parties in the apartment of the opposite sex. I completely agreed with the rule and had no problem with it.So when we left school (still not married) we stuck to the heart of that rule. We determined that Hannah could not come over to my apartment and us be alone. Why? Because we wanted to save our sex till marriage. We wanted to keep our heart...

How We Saved Our Sex
2008-03-04 18:41:00
A couple of weeks ago, I posted on how I challenged our students to love God by living a life of virtue (saving their sex for marriage). It was requested that I give examples of how my wife and I saved our sex until marriage. So here goes...Before I get into things that we did, I want it to be evidently clear that we're not above anyone... we're not holier than anyone because of how we saved ourselves... and we never thought we were. The things I will be sharing with you were standards that we set for ourselves and only share our story so that others know that it is possible to overcome the world through Jesus (though, we've not fully overcome the world -- but we did save our sex until marriage).A little relationship history for you...We dated for a total period of 13 months before we got married (dated for 5, engaged for 8). We met each other at ministry school in Pensacola, FL. When we first started out the relationship we both understood that our intentions were marriage. We di...

In a Depth of Thoughts
2008-03-03 11:30:00
Ever been in a place where you wish you could totally speak your mind... but if you did you know you'd offend someone? Would that offense be OK? Would it be wrong? What offense IS ok? We know Jesus offended... but He definitely didn't offend just to offend. Know what I mean?So back to that place of being able to speaking one's mind freely... would it be wrong if what you wanted to say was the truth, yet it would offend...? Or should we hold back? But what if you sharing that truth would have no impact on the person you shared it with? So why even share it?I've always wanted to be one that, more often than not, spoke my mind. But obviously, being in leadership, that is definitely not always a "good thing" to do.But are we missing something if we don't? Will someone else's life miss the mark because we decided what we had to share might be too offensive... or that the person we share it with just wouldn't "get it" so we decide not to waste our breath.I want reality.I want to be r...
