Hello, My Name Is... pt 3
2008-02-29 15:23:00
To view the previous entries: click here for pt 1 and here for pt 2.2. His Grace COVERS Us, not our worksThere's a story that Jesus tells that deals with someone who struggled with their identity. They thought that if they lived like a slave, then their father would be more eager to accept them. This of course was the prodigal son.Check out the story in Luke 15:11-24.In this passage we see an amazing story of God demonstrating Grace. Put yourself in the story in to the father's shoes. How would you have reacted to the prodigal son? Would you have said "I can't believe what you did. I'm so disappointed in you. Who do you think you are coming back here?" The father's response was completely the opposite? This guy was willing to turn in his "son" nametag in exchange for a "slave" name tag. But what the father wanted was his son, not another slave. How many times do we approach God the same way? "Oh God, I've screwed up? I've messed up God? and I'm not worthy to be your son? I'...

Had a great time preaching the Sunday services at our church. My message was entitled "Hello, My Name Is...". We talked about the truth of how Jesus has purchased our sonship/daughtership (are those real words!?) and how there is NOTHING else we need to do for our identity in Him to be established. To check out the message, click here or here.More later.

Saving Their Sex
2008-02-21 18:41:00
There are certain moments in student ministry that are memorable. Moments like last night is definitely one of those. I shared with my students last night concerning Virtue. We're going through the acronym of LOVE... and we chose Virtue to be for the letter "v".I explained to the students what virtue had to do with sex... and how God likes sex... and how He created it to be enjoyed between a married man and woman.I went on to challenge them concerning saving their sex for their future spouse.Hannah got a few moments in the spotlight as she shared from our dating relationship some important things that we did to ensure that we would save our sex till we got married.I have no problem what so ever being bold and gut-level honest when talking to the students about sex. I don't hold back. I don't share details... I encourage the students to get those from the 'rents. But I am quite honest and bold when it comes to sex.Society is that way about sex... why shouldn't we be? There's no...

"The Messiah" - NOT
2008-02-20 00:32:00
This seems to be happening on a regular basis... Muslims and Christians trying to compare religions... to try and come together... This time it's being tried by using the very "image" of Jesus.Apparently, an Iranian film has been released entitled "Messiah ". Click here to see the ABCNews article/video about it. Supposedly, it offers TWO endings to the story of Jesus... the ending which is in the Bible and the ending which is in the Koran... to appeal to the "similarities" between the religions.TWO DIFFERENT ENDINGS to the story. One of them Jesus dies on the cross and is resurrected 3 days later... the other Jesus DOESN'T die.Anyone see an issue here?I do.Jesus of the Bible is it my friend. Stick with the crucified/resurrected One and you'll be all good.P.S... I don't think Jesus had red hair.

The Will of God
2008-02-19 11:30:00
Huge topic.I was sitting at dinner tonight just thinking over my 27 years of existence... and thinking about those years in reference to God's will for my life. The whole concept of the "will of God" can be mind-boggling especially when you throw in "free will". I've definitely missed the mark several times in my life when it came to the "will of God" for my life, but I must say that God didn't fail me... even when I chose opposite of what He wanted. And God has always turned for good situations I've gotten myself into... whether it was sin or stupid life decisions. To be a little honest... one of the hardest questions for me to answer for someone else is "how do I determine God's Will for my life?" Especially because the answer I give usually doesn't satisfy.I almost wonder if we make it to be too big of an issue. Yes, we should absolutely seek God for wisdom and direction in our lives. Yes we should pray. But I wonder if we make the ideal of God's Will for our life into ...

Totally Sick
2008-02-18 01:44:00
I just realized this morning how really sick I've been... almost 3 full days with no bloggage... that means I was pretty stinkin' sick. ;)Gratefully, I'm feeling a ton better and will hopefully have a week full of posts ready...I will be quite busy this week as I've got to play catch-up for the two days of being out of the office on Thursday and Friday... gotta write 2 sermons... plan out the guys retreat for Ground Level... and a ton of small tasks that add up to a huge load. ;)I hope everyone's weekend has been better than mine. By the way... the healings have continued at our church. The cancer healing number is at 7 being healed within the last 4 months. There have been other numerous healings... hearing loss recovered, holes in hearts sealed up, enlarged hearts shrunk, and on and on. :DGo Jesus.

I <3 Hannah
2008-02-14 17:25:00
I never thought I'd use "<3"... but I just did... so there you go.Since it's Valentine's Day I thought I'd talk about Hannah , my wife. I am so stinkin' in love with her. Occasionally she will ask my "why" and I will say "because"... and that always gets her. Because... - You are gorgeous - You are incredible - You have nice eyes - You make me laugh - You are precious - And on and on...So Hannah, that's why I say "because". That way you can fill in the blank with anything nice and it would all be about you. :DHappy Valentine's Day.
What a waste...
2008-02-13 16:09:00
The words of the disciples "what a waste..." have rung out in my heart and mind today. You can find the passage and context in Matthew 26:6-13.Can you imagine ever saying those words? Hindsight is 20/20. It's easy for us to point a nice fat finger at the disciples and be all judgmental when really we should point that finger right back at ourselves. How often do we waste our lives on random things... yet when it comes to our relationship with Jesus it's like pulling teeth? Don't get me wrong... I'm guilty as charged. But I seriously want to waste my life on Jesus... however He wants me to.I've mentioned this topic of wasting before, but it just stuck out in my heart again today. What are you wasting your life on?Quote for Today's BLOG:"Pride makes us artificial and humility makes us real." - Thomas Merton

What A Morning!
2008-02-13 13:25:00
This morning... at 5:45 am, I took Hannah and the kids to the aeropuerto. We can always hope for an easy experience flying... but most of the time, especially here recently, our trips via airplanes have been quite hopeless.Hannah's grandfather passed away this last weekend so she was flying to Wisconsin, with the children, to take part in the funeral and spend some time with the family. So back to this morning...We actually made it to the airport in plenty of time... Seeing that we left the house at 5:45ish and got to the ticket booth at 6:01, I'd say that's pretty good. Hannah handed the ticketing agent her ID and proceeded to check her name tags on her suitcase... But then it happened... the ticketing agent had this look on her face. Then she stepped over to a different computer... still with the puzzled look on her face... Then she went into the back room. Uh oh.Not good. I was just assuming there was an issue with Leah being an "infant in arms" as we didn't book the ticket wit...
