Book Tag
2008-02-12 13:38:00
I have been tagged by Lisa @ Lifestyle Education Discipleship. Here’s the rules for this book tag: Pick up the nearest book of at least 123 pages. Open the book to page 123.Find the 5th sentence.Post the next 3 sentences.Tag 5 people. The nearest book that I grabbed actually has 1200 pages! I kid you not! It is the Encyclopedia of Christian Quotations. So I went to page 123, found the 5th sentence. Here are the next 3 sentences.Because of lack of fortitude and faithfulness on the part of God's people, God's word has many times been allowed to be bent, to conform to the surrounding, passing, changing culture of that moment rather than to stand as the innerant Word of God judging the form of the world spirit and the surrounding culture of that moment.Francis A. Flaming Darts
2008-02-11 22:30:00
I am not the type of person to attribute everything that is distressing in my life to attacks from Satan. Many distressing things are placed there by the Lord in order to grow us into Christ likeness. Many distressing things are due to the consequences of our sin. Yet, the Word tells us that Satan will attack. Even when Satan attacks we can take comfort in the sovereignty of God in the matter, just read the testimony of Job. There will be attacks from the evil one and to endure we are to take up the shield of faith.Today was a day when it was made clear to my husband and myself that we are indeed enduring an onslaught of flaming darts from the evil one. We must make sure during this attack that we respond not with the corrupt desires of our flesh but by holding fast to our shield of faith in Christ Jesus.Ephesians 6:16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.The evil one is crafty and tries to ensnar...

Pray for Your Children-Pt. 1
2008-02-10 15:08:00
1. Ask God to protect your children with His loving care, so that no evil can reach them and lead them into temptation. Pray that they will be safe from harm (Psalm 33:20).2.Pray that your children would use Godly wisdom. Ask God to give each child a discernment about people, as well as knowing the difference between right and wrong in the actions of their friends.(Proverbs 18:24; Deuteronomy 13:6,8).3.Pray that your children would stay pure in their thoughts and deeds, striving for God’s way of holiness for their lives (Psalm 24:4-5;Ephesians 1:4)4.Pray that your children will accept responsibility quickly and with humility when they fall into sin. (Matthew 5: 23-24).5. Pray that your children will be alert and thinking clearly as they study their schoolwork and in their extra curricular activities. Ask God to help them to be motivated to do the best they are capable of doing (Colossians 3:17; 1 Corinthians 10:31).6. Pray that your children will have an appetite to live the spi...

Heavy
2008-02-09 14:56:00
This week's Photo Hunt theme is heavy. So here are some heavy facts about elephants!Elephants weigh approximately 10,000 pounds. The typical weight range is between 7,000 13,200 lbs.Elephant trunks can get very heavy. It is not uncommon to see elephants resting them over a tusk! They poop 80 pounds in one day.The largest tusk ever recorded weighed 214 pounds and was 138 inches long. Because tusk size is an inherited characteristic, it is rare to find one now that would weigh more than 100 pounds. The sole of the elephant's foot is covered with a thick, cushionlike padding that helps sustain weight, prevents slipping and deadens sound.

Show & Tell -- Wooden Crosses
2008-02-08 14:45:00
This is my first week for Friday Show & Tell. It has been very frustrating for me to try and decide what to post about. Everyone seems to post so many different types of things so I guess just about anything goes. What I chose for my show and tell is something that I love. I love crosses and I collect unique ones. We have several crosses in our home. The cross is a constant reminder of the sacrifice that was given for me and therefore I like to display them in a prominent place in our home. The majority of them are wooden crosses and they are mounted on the wall above our piano. So I snapped a photo of those to share with you. The photo does not really do them justice but it gives you an idea.

Lingering Illnesses
2008-02-07 14:22:00
13 things that testify to the fact that you have had illness in your home for the last 6 weeks. You are popping Vitamin C like candy. You have considered buying stock in Motrin and Tylenol. You wonder if you will see the day when you wear something other than pajamas. You new perfume smells strangely like Lysol. You are more familiar with your bathroom than you would care to admit. You begin to come face to face with the fact that even with an empty bladder you can cough and sneeze hard enough to wet your pants.Even though it makes a great drawer or trunk liner you wonder why God EVER saw fit to create cedar. (severe allergies)Your children cry at the site of the nebulizer. (breathing treatments)Mom and baby make a perfect fit; baby has a high fever and mom has the chills, so mom cools baby with cold hands and baby warms mom up.If you ask where did your fever go the answer is higher and higher. You have a funny crick in your neck from holding your head at an angle to allow for your ear to...

Strength from Weakness
2008-02-05 15:20:00
My first official post is up over at Weekend Kindness. I would love for you to go and read it. Please comment there (and here). There is also a lot of great stuff over at WK so take some time and look around. Here is a snippet of my post for today.....The Lord has been dealing with me a lot lately concerning my dependence upon Him. It matters not if I am dealing with my husband, my children, those I meet day in and day out in real life, or those I seek to minister to here in blogland. I know that by my nature, I am not kind, compassionate, or loving. This is a weakness. But through my weakness can flow the kindness, compassion, and love of Christ, not because of me or anything I can do but because of who God is!To read the full post CLICK HERE.
Unborn Twins Save Mom's Life
2008-02-05 14:39:00
A UK mother chooses the life of her unborn twins and is rewarded with life for herself! Shortly after becoming pregnant, it is discovered that the mother has a cervical cancer tumor. The mother refused to abort her babies and in turn her life is saved."I couldn't believe it when the doctors told me that the babies had dislodged the tumor," she said. "I'd felt them kicking, but I didn't realize just how important their kicking would turn out to be. I owe my life to my girls, and that's why I could have never agreed with a termination."Read her amazing story HERE.

After This I Looked, and Behold
2007-11-17 14:56:00
Revelation 4After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” At once I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne. And he who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian, and around the throne was a rainbow that had the appearance of an emerald. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, clothed in white garments, with golden crowns on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning, and rumblings and peals of thunder, and before the throne were burning seven torches of fire, which are the seven spirits of God, and before the throne there was as it were a sea of glass, like crystal. And around the throne, on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind: the first l...

Who Are You, Really?
2007-11-16 13:38:00
I have wanted to post on a particular issue since the beginning of the summer but have struggled to be articulate enough to do so. I have decided to attempt it today. It revolves around who really knows who I am and who knows me best. Most would say that family knows one best then friends would be second and probably the longer the friendship the better. In many cases this may be true but not in every situation. In fact, for me, it may even be reversed. Maybe this is due to the fact that we tend to move so frequently and that I have not been around old friends and family for so long. I do not know. I am not the same person I once was; the Lord is continuing to change me each and every day. Some days admittedly are slower than others and there are set backs, but God even uses those to mold His children. The fact is people change. If you are allowed to live next to your family and friends for a long time, like growing up in a small town and never straying far from home, I wo...
Do You Have Time To Pray?
2007-11-16 13:35:00
I had a comment left this week in which someone asked me the following question. With 8 kids, how do you have time to pray?I will readily admit that it is difficult to have a specific amount of time set aside just sit and pray. However, I have taken a wonderful verse to heart and try to apply it everyday.1 Thessalonians 5:17pray without ceasingI try to maintain an attitude of prayer throughout my day. Do I always accomplish this? Absolutely not but I strive for it non the less. As I go throughout my day, I praise the Lord for the weather, for my well behaved children, for wisdom in dealing with my children when they are not so well behaved, for wisdom in teaching and training them, for giving me another day to praise His name, for my husband, and for the life He has given me (here on earth and in eternity). I pray for others when they come to mind or when asked I say a prayer for them. I pray as I lay in bed at the end of the day, I pray as I drive, and the shower is a wonder...

Updated Prayer Request
2007-11-14 15:24:00
Thank you to those who prayed for my family these last few days. (original request) My Aunt Bonnie passed away about 8:30 last night. (I just heard this morning) If you feel led please continue to pray for the family as funeral arrangements are made and we grieve. I am thanking the Lord that my Aunt is now with Him in glory and for the comfort He gives. I gave this verse to a friend this morning not knowing that I would need it also today.2 Corinthians 1:3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort.

WW- A Tree Planted
2007-11-14 15:09:00
Psalm 1:1-3Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

More Blog Bling!
2007-11-13 20:11:00
This award was created by Heidi Hyde from Hydes Like Us and was awarded to me today by GHD at So, What do you do all Day?. This award goes to those who mentor and encourage new bloggers entering into the world we like to call blogland. There have been many who have been an encouragement to me and have taught me the ins and outs of blogging, but since I just awarded several people yesterday, I will only mention a few. When I first started blogging, I only knew two other people who blogged and they helped me along in different ways. So I here by award this to my sister-in-law Sallie who helped me get started and to a good friend of mine Rebecca at Space Between My Peers. Rebecca, I miss our weekly bloggy discussions and your advice at church! One other person who has been an encouragement to me to keep on keeping on is Jacque at Seeking Rest in Ancient Paths. I actually would have awarded her with the last award but she was the one who nominated me for it.

Transferring Notes
2007-11-13 19:34:00
Whenever I buy a new Bible for daily use (as opposed to occasional reference for translation comparison) the first thing I do is transfer all of my notes. Yes, I am one of those people who writes in her Bible. I also carry a notebook with me to take notes in. When transferring all the notes written in my Bible, I move page by page so that I do not miss anything. I am in the midst of doing this right now actually. This has become a good exercise for me. It allows me to review those things I had learned previously and to remind myself of the truths. Some things were forgotten and it is great to relearn them. It is also a way to see where in the Word I have been neglectful. Like no notes at all in Leviticus, maybe I should study there more often! It is good to be reminded of the time when God first showed me something and to remember the trial I was going through at that time and to remember how God carried me through. As I read the Word and meditate upon it, it is a good thi...

2007-11-13 19:10:00
“The devil has seldom done a cleverer thing than hinting to the church that part of their mission is to provide entertainment for the people, with a view to winning them……providing amusement for the people is nowhere spoken of in the Scriptures as a function of the church……the need is for Biblical doctrine, so understood and felt that it sets men aflame.”

Blogging With A Purpose
2007-11-12 15:12:00
Eric Novak came out with the Christian award "Blogging with a Purpose " in late April of 2007. With so many secular awards around, Eric thought it would be a good idea to come out with a Christian award. I was nominated for this award by my blogging buddy Jacque. I am humbled and honored by this. My sincerest THANK YOU!The scripture verse which is the theme for "Blogging with a Purpose" is Matthew 5:31."You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. Matthew 5:13 NASBSo now it is my duty and privilege to nominate five others who I feel meet the criteria of "being salty" and "Blogging with a Purpose".For those nominated, there are a few rules to follow if accepting this award. Please go HERE for the code and the rules of participation! The nominees are listed below in no particular order.Deborah @ One Beggar's Bread: I have just recently ...

Power of Prayer
2007-11-11 14:32:00
Prayer Request Sunday is hosted by my friend Valerie, if you feel led to pray there are several requests listed on her blog that you may lift up to the Lord.I have a request this week. I was informed that my Aunt Bonnie, whom I dearly love, is dying. She is in the hospital and they have given her 3-5 days at the most. We are praying for God's will to be done. If it be healing that it would come quickly, if it be the ultimate healing, that she would go quickly and suffer no more. She is a believer in Christ and we are comforted in that. There are however other family members who do not know the Lord and we pray for their salvation. We pray for comfort for the family members who are mourning. We are praising the Lord for the comfort that comes from Him in these times for those who know Him.

International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church
2007-11-11 14:30:00
On November 11, The Voice of the Martyrs will join Christians in more than 130 countries in prayer for the persecuted church. VOM is participating in the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP) and encourages Christians to pray for believers around the world, living under the threat of persecution. These believers risk discrimination, imprisonment, and even death because of their faith in Jesus Christ. Todd Nettleton, Director of Media Development at The Voice of the Martyrs, said, “This is an important time for Christians around the world to follow the scriptural mandate to ‘Remember those in bonds…’ (Hebrews 13:3). Our hope is that this one special day of prayer will lead to many more days of prayer in the coming weeks and months.” Christians are encouraged to pray for continued boldness and courage for believers as they share the gospel and for hearts to be softened to the truth of th...
