Orthodoxy (How to Discern 3)
2007-11-15 05:45:00 The Roman church has for a long time believed that only the “clergy” may interpret the Bible. In fact, until recently, they did not even allow translations of the Bible into the common language of the people because they did not believe that ordinary people were equipped to read the Bible, let alone interpret it.Since the Reformation, the Bible has been made available to ordinary people and now anyone in the free world is able to read, study and own Bibles. But the pendulum has swung to the other extreme so that today every Tom, Dick and Harry feels he has the right to interpret the Bible as he feels fit. This is an equal but opposite error to that of the Roman clerical system. It is therefore important that we understand that while each of us has the privilege of reading the Bible for ourselves, no individual has the right to interpret the Scriptures as he wishes. We can all understand the Bible, and the Spirit will lead us into all Truth, but it is not up to us to formulate our... More About: Orthodoxy
Check, Check and Check Again (How to Discern 4)
2007-11-15 05:43:00 This is a principle that holds true in most areas in life. Carpenters speak about measuring twice and cutting once. We teach our children that when they cross the street they must look left, look right and look left again. And when it comes to our faith we must be even more careful and check everything we hear. 1Thessalonians 5:21 says: “Test all things; hold fast what is good.” In other words, not everything is good and can be trusted, so everything must be tested first. The noble-minded Bereans even subjected Paul’s teaching to scrutiny and they were commended for doing so (Acts 17:11).We live in dangerous times and the world is filled with deceivers, false prophets, wolves in sheep’s clothing and heretics. Those who preach the Truth are a small minority while the false apostles wield massive budgets with which they dominate every form of media. No matter whether you listen to “Christian” radio, watch “Christian” television look at “Christian” websites or ent... More About: Check
Who's Who? (How to Discern 5)
2007-11-15 05:41:00 It is important that we check every word we hear or read against the plumbline of the Bible. In addition, we need to check the source of the information as well. We must check two things: The message and the man. Many times we will hear messages that sound spot-on, and may even be doctrinally correct, but the speaker is a deceiver. Remember, the Devil will present truth in order to get you on his hook. No Mormon or Jehovah’s Witness will knock on your door and begin the conversation by saying that they have come to present another Gospel and another Jesus. They all begin by affirming that they believe exactly what you believe. The problem is that by the time they get around to the lie it is often too late. Our only defense is not to listen to a single word from someone we have not checked out thoroughly first. Mormons and JWs are easy to recognize by their outward appearance. But how do we recognize someone who appears to be an evangelical, Bible believing preacher? Here are a few ...
What of the Watchmen? (How to Discern 6)
2007-11-15 05:38:00 Each believer has responsibility for himself to be on the lookout for error and deception (Revelation 3:11). The Lord has also set the elders in the local church with the duty to watch for wolves who would seek to attack the flock (Acts 20:28-30).In these last days error is multiplying and spreading faster than the average believer or shepherd can track. Every day brings some new heresy, and modern electronic media and world travel has resulted in new heresies spreading across the globe within hours of being hatched. Often these teachings are so cleverly disguised that it literally takes a specialist to recognize them and to formulate a defense against them.As a result the Lord has raised up a special group of people who have been uniquely gifted and prepared to act as watchmen to the churches. When Nehemiah rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem, the attacks were so incessant that in addition to every man carrying his sword whilst building (Nehemiah 4:17-18), a select group was tasked with... Interfaith Event Finds Common Ground Through Noah
2007-11-15 03:22:00 Here is an interesting news story about a recent interfaith event that drew Muslims, Christians and Jews together through the story of Noah ’s Ark. Globalism is erasing national boundaries and has created worldwide tension as the various religions and cultures of the world are increasingly thrown together. Out of this global culture, a call for a common spirituality is emerging. This is a spirituality that supposedly everyone can participate in if the citizens of the world are willing to set down the idea of absolute truth. Post-modernism sets the world up for this belief that everyone has their own truth—that there is no one single Savior of the world. Neale Donald Walsch, New Age author and prophet of New Spirituality, announces to the world that the “era of the single savior is over.” That is the spirit of anti-Christ that is growing in the world today. It all sounds so harmless, even good. But in reality, Christians must abandon the Lordship of Jesus Christ to participate... More About: Event , Ground , Interfaith , Common

The Word Trinity is not in the Bible
2007-11-15 02:11:00 Some critics of the Trinity doctrine claim that since the word "trinity" is not found in the Bible , it isn't true. Furthermore, some assert that if God wanted us to believe in the Trinity He would have stated the doctrine clearly. First of all, it is illogical to claim that since the word "Trinity" is not found in the Bible that its concept is not taught therein. This kind of objection usually demonstrates a prejudice against the teaching of the Trinity. Instead, the person should look to God's word to see if it is taught or not. Second, there are many biblical concepts that people believe in that don't have a specific word describing them used in the Bible. For example, the word "bible" is not found in the Bible, but we use it anyway to describe the Bible. Likewise, the words "omniscience," which means "all knowing," "omnipotence," which means "all powerful," and "omnipresence," which means "p... More About: Word , The Bible , Not I
Turn the Other Cheek - Matt 5:38,39
2007-11-14 08:05:00 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. (KJV)I was in hot debate with someone over this. This man was a former pastor and I was just shocked at his interpretation of this. First let's talk about what this really means. This speaks of avenging someone if you read it in context. You are not to repay someone if a personal evil was done against you. But this person thought this meant not to defend yourself against a criminal!! (gasp!)He is married with small children and I asked him what if a robber broke into his house and threatened to rape his wife and kill his children? I asked if he would defend his family or stand there and let the robber do as he pleased. He was silent. His silence spoke volumes. In my opinion I see him (the husband) as a co-conspirator, just as guilty as the criminal! He may as well have held his... More About: Matt , Turn
Why Did Jesus Have to Die?
2007-11-14 07:50:00 This is an answer for a particular reader. I originally answered this person without Scripture but now I have them. Why did Jesus have to die?To give us victory over sin and over Satan. Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. His death was the only thing that would atone for sins. Isaiah 53His suffering and death were essential. Matt 16:21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.In order to be the ransom for us. Matt 20:28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. For remission of sins. Matt 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.To fulfill the Scriptures Matt 26:52-54 Then said...
Examine our Motives
2007-11-14 06:05:00 You cannot read much of the Bible before you get the idea that God is more interested in your motives than your actions. Often your motive can turn an otherwise good deed into sin. You may give a big sum of money and that is good. But if you give it to be seen of men, it becomes pride and this is sin.Consider Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5. They did a very generous thing. They sold some property and gave a lot of the proceeds to the church. Their only problem was their motive.Acts 5:3-4 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.It wasn't the fact that they didn't give all the money to the church. It was that they said they gave all of it to the church. Their motive was not pure. They were concerned about o...
Who is the Morning Star? Another NIV Deception
2007-11-14 04:36:00 Isaiah 14:12 How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! (NIV)This verse is stating that Lucifer is the morning star.2 Peter 1:19 And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. (NIV)Suddenly the 'morning star' is not the bad guy? Very confusing....What does the KJV say?Isa 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! Here Lucifer is identified as son of the morning, not the morning star. That wouldn't be a problem except "morning star" refers to Jesus in other passages...Rev 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. (KJV)Rev 2:... More About: Star , Morning , Deception , Morning Star
Apostate or Just in Error?
2007-11-12 22:24:00 There is something that has been troubling me for quite some time...and just when I think I have the answer, I don't. Here is my question...Where do you draw the line between apostasy and just being in error? We all have faults, we all have some degree of error in our beliefs, but what of a person who claims to be a follower of Jesus yet they are wrong on so many things? Some of the basic fundamentals. It does no good to give examples because that's picking and choosing what doctrines are 'acceptable' to err in. (we cannot make that call) If someone is in error on SO many things, then how can they TRULY be in the Word? How can they say they are following Jesus when they believe things that are taught by man? There are people who's beliefs not only do NOT mirror Christianity as Jesus and the apostles taught it, but they are not even a loose likeness! It is unrecognizable! The only thing I have in common with these people is that Jesus in Lord - that's it.There are false teachers... More About: Apostate , Error

"Without Being Preachy"
2007-11-03 15:33:00 This phrase is getting a lot more 'ear-play' these days and not just from secularists. Some Christians have adopted this phrase in order to get the hearer to let their walls down so the message will be well received. It also has a negative connotation to it which is that preaching is a bad thing. If you are trying to soften up the hearer by prefacing your comment with the “preachy” statement, you must realize that no matter how you spin, twist, or sugar-coat your message, it is not your words that are effective but the power of the Holy Spirit lest you should boast. It's also a subtle form of deception in that you want to give the illusion that you are not preaching, but rather just talking. If you have to disguise the Gospel (or any other Biblical teaching) to someone who doesn't want to hear it in the first place, then they're not going to want to hear it when you dress it up. (that is assuming you are preaching the full Gospel and not a watered down version) It's also ve...

The Cult of Homosexuality
2007-10-28 18:35:00 THE CULT OF HOMOSEXUALITYBy Dr. P. Bradley CareyFrom his bookAnd The Dead Shall Walk The Earth(c) 2001This has been written under the direction and guidance of the Spirit of the Lord. When the Lord speaks, we must listen and do as instructed; or else we fall into condemnation. There will be those who read this and will hate me for the words here, but that doesn't matter. What matters is the truth and doing the Will of God. Christ Himself tells us:If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.(John 15:18)For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.(John 3:20)Over the years, the Christian Church has been downgraded by many because of its stand on morality and clearly stating what is and is not sin. But lately, many churches have been giving in to the ways of the world and accepting sin and sinful ways as something that is natural, normal, and acceptable. The Word of God clearly tells us that we a... More About: Cult , Homosexuality , The Cult , Ality
Are Some Sins Worse Than Others?
2007-10-28 18:01:00 Are Some Sins Worse Than Others?by Martin G. CollinsForerunner, "Ready Answer," November 1998Are there varying degrees of sin? Is it worse to commit adultery than steal? Or to murder than lie? Or to commit idolatry than break the Sabbath? Does God make distinctions between different types of sin?Romans 6:23 tells us plainly that "the wages of sin is death." Does this mean all sins are equal? Under the law is a gossip equal to a mass murderer? Is a petty thief just as sinful as a child molester?Although all sin merits the death penalty and requires the blood of Christ for expiation, God's Word reveals that some sins are indeed worse than others. Some sins have greater consequences to the sinner, as well as to those his sin affects. From the judgments God makes regarding certain sins, we will see that some sins bring stiffer penalties and greater condemnation. Some ExamplesIsrael's making of the Golden Calf while Moses spoke with God on Mt. Sinai is an Old Testament example of the si...
Purpose Driven Drivel
2007-10-28 16:54:00 This is a short rant on Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Drivel. It is by no means exhaustive because I would be here for weeks and frankly, I don't want to waste that much of my time or yours. So if you're a Rick Warren groupie, then you will not like this post and you probably shouldn't be here on this blog anyway as I don't mince words or put up with falsity. This is for people who's hearts want the truth in lieu their pet preachers who teach falsely.Rick Warren is the founding pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, one of America's largest and best-known churches. His previous book, The Purpose-Driven Church, has sold over a million copies in 20 languages. There are numerous Scriptural errors in this book. I believe that most people who read it will ascertain that the book seems to be a good read and a practical book giving decent advice, while not Discerning that the book is filled with dangerous errors and is loaded with tons of “New Age” philosophies. House Passes Thought Crime Prevention Bill
2007-10-27 01:36:00 The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed HR 1955 titled the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007. This bill is one of the most blatant attacks against the Constitution yet and actually defines thought crimes as homegrown terrorism. If passed into law, it will also establish a commission and a Center of Excellence to study and defeat so called thought criminals. Unlike previous anti-terror legislation, this bill specifically targets the civilian population of the United States and uses vague language to define homegrown terrorism. Amazingly, 404 of our elected representatives from both the Democrat and Republican parties voted in favor of this bill. There is little doubt that this bill is specifically targeting the growing patriot community that is demanding the restoration of the Constitution.First let’s take a look at the definitions of violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism as defined in Section 899A of the bill. The definition o... 2007-10-26 10:03:00 I was watching TBN the other day (which I rarely do) and I saw this couple singing praises to the Lord. I don't know who they were but they were on stage singing in front of the audience and their voices were so beautiful. There was a cross with Christ on it and blood on His side, like we've all seen many times before I'm sure.I thought to myself 'how nice, these people are really singing from the bottom of their hearts'. I thought that they are using their God-given gift of song to praise the Lord and I felt kinda warm and fuzzy inside. They were very animated in their expressions with their arms lifted up high, tears trickling down their faces and you could just tell they loved the Lord.As I was sitting there enjoying their worshipful singing, suddenly I saw something very different. It's like the image changed before my eyes and I saw what was REALLY happening. As they were singing, they were circling around the cross with Christ on it, touching Him, crying, and singing to... The Sins I Love
2007-10-26 09:03:00 I don't know about anyone here but I've run across people who emphasize love, (which we are to do) but they take it to such an exaggerated level that they feel Christians aren't supposed to have any unpleasant emotions whatsoever. I've heard it said that the Bible could be a blank book with just one word, "Love ", written in it and that would be sufficient. This type of thinking is reminiscent of the hippy generation. Yes we are to watch what we say, yes we are to love our enemies, but is there ever a time when we are supposed to hate?Psa 97:10 Ye that love the LORD, hate evil:Prov 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.Deu 7:25-26 The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God. Are Future Sins Forgiven?
2007-10-21 23:27:00 There is a teaching, predominantly by OSAS adherents, that our past, present, and FUTURE sins are forgiven. I'm going to give verses that state the contrary. I probably already ruffled your feathers just by the title but I ask that you please prayerfully consider what the Bible has to say. I know this is not a popular teaching, if taught at all, and so I ask that you please pray before you throw tomatoes at me. :)So why is this doctrine taught? Perhaps they teach this way in an effort to safeguard their doctrine of eternal security. Some say that if it was possible for a Christian to lose his salvation, it could only occur through sin. Then they want to know just how many sin(s) is enough to make you lose your salvation - where do you draw the line? But what they fail to realize is that there are other ways to lose your salvation besides sinning which is denying Jesus through persecution and accepting a wrong plan of salvation. (this I'll save for another blog entry at another ti... More About: Future , Sins
What is an Evil Spirit?
2007-10-20 20:05:00 The many accounts of evil spirits in Scripture affirm the reality of powerful spiritual forces of wickedness. Evil spirits (also known as demons or devils) are depraved spirits which are familiar with human weaknesses and desires. Some are more vile than others. The Bible has many names for these spirits:Deaf and dumb spirit (Mark 9:17-29)Evil spirit (Luke 7:21; Acts 19:12-13)Familiar spirit (I Samuel 28:7)Foul spirit (Mark 9:25)Lying spirit (II Chronicles 18:20-22)Perverse spirit (Isaiah 19:14; Romans 1:17-32)Seducing spirit (I Timothy 4:1)Spirit of an unclean devil (Luke 4:33)Spirit of antichrist (I John 4:3)Spirit of bondage (Romans 8:15)Spirit of death (I Corinthians 10:10, 15:26)Spirit of divination (Acts 16:16)Spirit of error (I John 4:6)Spirit of fear (II Timothy 1:7)Spirit of haughtiness (Proverbs 16:18-19)Spirit of heaviness (Isaiah 61:3)Spirit of infirmity (Luke 13:11-13)Spirit of jealousy (Genesis 4:5-8; Numbers 5:14)Spirit of slumber (Isaiah 29:10, Romans 11:8)Spirit of t...
Can a Christian be Possessed by a Demon?
2007-10-20 19:48:00 A person who has been born again has the Holy Spirit within him (I Corinthians 2:12). To a Christian , the Bible says, "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are" (I Corinthians 3:16-17).This person has been joined to Christ's body (I Corinthians 6:17-20) and has been translated from the kingdom of darkness to which he was born into the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, to which he was born again (Colossians 1:13)!Those who are now in Christ were at one time under the kingdom of darkness, under the rule of the god of this world (Satan): "Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience" (Ephesians 2:2). What is Unbelief?
More articles from this author:2007-10-20 18:32:00 The opposite of faith is doubt, or unbelief. We stand strong in Christ by faith (see II Corinthians 1:24); however, the reverse is also true: we fall away from Christ through unbelief. "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall" (I Corinthians 10:12).James likened a doubting person to a wave of the sea, unstable, driven to and fro: "But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
