16 Tons and What Do You Get?
2008-01-18 04:54:00
…Another day older and deeper in debt!  This morning at 5:36 Angela was already awake and getting ready for work and I was still sleeping soundly.  At 5:37 my daughter Rachel crawled into my bed and woke me up to wish me a happy birthday.  What a great way to start off the day!  The following is a list of some of the more notable folks who celebrated their birthday on January 17.   1989 Yvonne Zima (actress) 1982 Dwyane Wade (NBA Basketball star) 1971 Kid Rock (rapper, also a clown according to a fellow blogger) 1964 Michelle Obama (wife of presidential candidate Barack Obama) 1962 Jim Carrey (actor) 1959 Susanna Hoffs (singer - Bangles) 1955 Steve Earl (Singer/guitarist) 1949 Andy Kaufman (performance artist) 1948 Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones) 1942 Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay) (boxer) 1939 Maury Povich (talk show host) 1934 Shari Lewis (Hurwitz) (puppeteer most famous for “Lamb Chop”) 1931 James Earl Jones (actor, narrator) 1929 Popeye the Sa...

How Do You Dispose of a Bible?
2008-01-17 02:03:00
My wife asked me an interesting question earlier today.  She is a school librarian and they were going through their collection to make room for some new books when she came across some old Bible s.  Even public schools have Bibles in the library, and she bought several new versions to replace the worn out ones.  The question she asked me is; “How do you dispose of old Bibles?”  I thought about that one for a minute and realized that I have never actually “disposed” of a Bible before.  One of her assistants suggested they burn them while another said they should recycle the paper.  These two suggestions make some sense I guess, after all, we burn old flags and we recycle old books.   I did a little bit of searching the net to find out if the ELCA, or any other church for that matter, has set forth guidelines to retire and dispose of Bibles from the parish.  Surprisingly, I found no “official” policy or guideline.  I know bookshelves in churches everywhere are...
Gramma and Grandpa
2008-01-15 19:43:00
One of the things I enjoy most about the blogosphere is the number of stories people share, and the memories they bring to the surface. Lately I have been reading posts that folks have written about their grandparents and what they remember most about going to ?Gramma?s house.? Certainly, some of my best memories are ...

A Final Christmas at Home
2007-12-27 18:01:00
Monday evening, Christmas Eve began just like so many others. My friend Ron and I took our usual place as ushers for the 11:00PM candle light service, but right away I sensed something was different; something seemed out of place. It wasn?t anything that I could put my finger on right away, but it was ...

Plenty of Room at the Inn
2007-12-20 15:20:00

Sing Choirs of?Angels?
2007-12-17 03:31:00
Despite half of the choir battling a nasty cold virus, our annual Christmas Cantata went very well this morning.
