2008-01-11 15:00:00 Eva has introduced us to a new phrase that she learned in Kindergarten: “Kiss your brain!” When you come up with a good idea or do something smart, you’re supposed to kiss your brain to thank it. You put your hand to your lips like you’re about to blow a kiss, but instead you put the kiss ... More About: Brain

Accomplishments
2007-12-23 15:39:00 MyTurn : Having small kids causes you to get excited about odd things, such as what goes on in the bathroom. Most people don’t normally go around discussing the finer points of their pees and poops. But pee-pee is big news around our house this weekend. Trim-A-Tree
2007-12-02 00:40:00 MyTurn : Our Christmas tree is like a big scrapbook. Since we’ve made a habit of buying ornaments that represent things, our tree and the process of trimming it are very sentimental! We have “sections” on our tree: vacations, grad school, each kid has a section, Star Wars, It’s a Wonderful Life, etc. We try to ... More About: Your , Tree , Trim

2007-11-27 04:14:00 Last week, I wrote about the importance of cultivating traditions in our family. Living More Fully: Traditions

MyTurn/YourTurn: Thanksgiving Foods
2007-11-18 19:07:00 MyTurn : It has become tradition for the Thanksgiving meal that my mom prepares to be very non-traditional. Eli is his own Kryptonite
2007-11-16 14:04:00 This will be the last in my “Eli Can’t Let Halloween Go” series. He wasn’t Superman for Halloween. He was a football player. But that doesn’t mean that he couldn’t have a Superman costume, too. He has an indulgent Nonni and the Superman costumes were marked down at Target. So, Superman began to make appearances at our ... To Do To Make Tomorrow Better
2007-11-16 05:34:00 Play a song that I know all the words to. Sing loudly. Wear a fun pair of socks. If I can’t find a fun pair, mismatch. Don’t listen to or watch the news. Wonder what Willy Wonka would do with him?
2007-11-15 15:05:00 I mentioned yesterday that Eli is a proponent of candy. That reminds me of a bit of philosophy that he shared with me after the Veteran’s Day parade we attended. He’d snatched up some of that parade-thrown candy, and isn’t that stuff always the best? It must bring out some old hunter-gatherer instinct in us ... More About: Blogroll , Willy Wonka
Is it beautiful where you are?
2007-11-14 18:00:00 I believe that we are reaching the absolute height of autumnal beauty here in our area. My favorite pencil
2007-11-08 04:55:00 In the lobby of my daughter’s school, they have a machine that dispenses pencils or pencil topper erasers for a quarter. On a few different occasions, she has asked me for quarters so that she can get one. This seems like a pretty reasonable request for a kindergartner, so I’ve obliged. One morning last week ... Leave your light on
2007-11-02 04:23:00 Halloween has come and gone. My kids have a huge stash of candy in the kitchen to prove it. Be gentle with yourself
More articles from this author:2007-10-23 13:00:00 Join me in welcoming today’s guest blogger, Darlene Siddons from Spirited Boutique. Beyond a wholesome discipline, Be gentle with yourself. My first introduction to a wholesome discipline was when I was listening to Stuart Wilde’s tape series called Infinite Self on my commute each day to and from work. I learnt about doing my daily functions in a sacred manner – another way it could be said is prayerfully. When I started doing this I had to remind myself to make my movements and moments sacred and not hurried. Slow and reverent, as each thing we do everyday, all day, are things of joy and pleasure. When we/I “get” there, our life is a song – cool, peaceful and tranquil. Discipline is also know as taming the ego – so I learnt to do even the most mundane functions (dusting, dishes, taking out the trash, vacuuming) with detailed methodical sacredness, the joy of being able to them and the joy of doing them well. One of my friends called me high maintenance for man... More About: Gentle , Gent , With You 1, 2 |
