Making a Case for Morality
2008-06-04 05:50:00
I've mentioned in a previous post that I'm re-reading a book I read about 9yrs. ago. It's entitled, "Standing for Something." It was written by the late President Gordon B. Hinckley (Prophet from 1995-2008). These are quotes I'd like to share from the 3rd Chapter, "Making a Case for Morality ." "A great moral reformation will occur only as reformation takes place in the hearts, minds, and lives
Staying A-float

Right now there is so much I am trying to work out before our big move, my husband starts his undergraduate and our new addition to our family comes. I am finding very little time to blog because other things are taking priority right now. Even though my life is extreemly busy and crazy, I feel very blessed. My strength and my joy comes from my loving Father in Heaven. His Spirit and His Word
Memorial Day
2008-05-27 05:29:00
This is a poem I wrote about 7 yrs. ago for a friend of mine who lost her husband prematurely. His death was unexpected and came quite suddenly.... but the life he lived impacted so many for good. He shined so bright and cared so much about everyone around him. I know that the main thing that carried my friend through this difficult time was her testimony of Jesus Christ and His power over the

A Happy Mother's Day
2008-05-12 17:39:00
Ok I'm going to claim my bragging rights!!! I've had a great Mother's day! My husband let me sleep in, made me breakfast, gave me a dozen roses, took care of the kids and made me dinner too! He's awesome! My kids all gave me something they made at school... cute, cute stuff. Sunday services were excellent too...Each speaker talked about either their mother or wife or how women in general have

My kids were all huddled in the bathroom trying to get warm by the heater. I looked down at their cute little feet and couldn't resist this picture. Sometimes my camera is the only way for me to capture the fun little things I love about having children. Here are some more fun pictures of the loves of my life... Here they are anxiously waiting to ride the train. Here is my youngest, with his

Increased prices at the pump... Grocery bills are doubling.... Value of the dollar is dropping....Our economy is facing some real tough times. And we, just like so many others, are feeling "the pinch." Thinking of my husband going to school again full time and cutting back on his 40hr work week to accommodate his school schedule, having our forth child, moving to a new place.... all this has

"We have forgotten God."

I got this in my E-mail from "Daily Gems," provided by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. If Abraham Lincoln said this about our Country back in 1863.... just imagine what he would say about our Country now! "Consider these words written by Abraham Lincoln as part of a resolution in 1863: " 'We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven; we have been preserved

My Aunt Ruth sent me this picture of my Grandma, Bertha Elizabeth. She passed away 50 yrs. ago... she was only about 35... which means she was only 5 yrs. older than I am now. She left behind 5 children, my dad was the oldest... he was 9 when she died. My Grandma, ("Bert") is the one on the left with her little sister, Ruth (my Aunt), on the right. I want to thank my Aunt Ruth for this picture.

Comfort Through Scriptures
2008-04-22 19:33:00
"Before all else fails, read the instructions." (See Mosiah 1:6-7) These past few days have been a little overwhelming. I'm just getting comfortable in this area and it's a little hard to think about starting over in a new place.... again. This will be the 5th time we've moved in the 9yrs. we've been married. It's going to be hard with my husband working full-time and going to school full-time.

It's been a few days since I've posted anything. I've been battling a crazy schedule, the responsibilities motherhood, a head cold, a nasty stomach virus and a few other discomforts that come with pregnancy. Plus, we just found out that we are moving to another city in about 2 months.... my husband just got accepted to his favorite University. Yep, we will be living the student life with 4

As I shared from my last post, I've just begun to read again a wonderful book called, Standing for Something - (10 neglected virtues that will heal our hearts and homes), by Gordon B. Hinckley The love I want to talk about is not how the world describes it. The world's definition of love is skewed, twisted, and often portrayed in a very opposite way and is better described as "lust". The true

Pornography
2008-03-31 17:35:00
“I plead with you … to keep yourselves free from the stains of the world. You must not indulge in sleazy talk at school. You must not tell sultry jokes. You must not fool around with the Internet to find pornographic material. You must not dial a long-distance telephone number to listen to filth. You must not rent videos with pornography of any kind. This salacious stuff simply is not for you. Stay away from pornography as you would avoid a serious disease. It is as destructive. It can become habitual, and those who indulge in it get so they cannot leave it alone. It is addictive.“It is a five-billion-dollar business for those who produce it. They make it as … attractive as they know how. It seduces and destroys its victims. It is everywhere. It is all about us. I plead with you young men not to get involved in its use. You simply cannot afford to.“The girl you marry is worthy of a husband whose life has not been tainted by this ugly and corrosive material” (Ensign, May ...

What are you afraid of?
2008-03-28 19:02:00
It seems like every time I turn on the news, all I ever hear about is war, murders, robbery, abuse, lewdness, violence, cheating, fraud, lies, and destruction.... to focus on this can weigh quite heavily on my heart and be quite depressing. Especially when I look at my children and think, "If things are this bad now, what kind of world are they going to be living in when they have children of their own?" It's a frightening thought. This morning I was reading in Luke 21:26. Here it says that in the last days, men's hearts will fail them because of fear. "Fear" I took an interest in this because of the fear I have felt at times in my own heart. So, I began looking up all the different verses on "fear" that stood out to my mind and wrote them down. These are what I found- these comfort me:"And the Lord appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee..."- Gen. 26:24"Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that b...
Powerful Mothers
2008-03-26 16:53:00
I listened to this talk 3 times this morning by Julie B. Beck, General Relief Society President. I agree with everything she says. So I wanted to share it. Of course this is just part of the talk... I have summarized it for the ease of reading and to highlight the points that stand out to a more general audience.I think it's sad how children are valued less now days and motherhood is seen as a burden instead of the great blessing it really is. I know it's not always easy. I'm a full-time mom of 3 with one on the way. Some days are overwhelmingly hard. But, there is no one else whose influence is greater than a mother.... so why do we let the world influence our little ones? There is nothing that gives me greater joy and greater fulfillment than teaching, leading, loving and nurturing these precious gifts God has given me. It is no small thing to raise a child in righteous principles. It's a noble calling that I am proud, very proud to be a part of.Here's the clips from that tal...

Art work:Under His Wing, by Jay Bryant WardThere are some wonderful articles published in this month's Ensign magazine. This is a poster included in the middle of the magazine that I thought was absolutely beautiful. Children have increadible faith... I see it in the eyes of my own children. My children are my greatest teachers on what it means to be humble, teachable, forgiving, and believing. The following poem is one of my very most favorites. As I ponder the words, "Jesus loves me."... my mind recalls this poem.“The Touch of the Master’s Hand,” -by: Myra Brooks Welch“ ’Twas battered and scarred, and the auctioneer Thought it scarcely worth his while To waste much time on the old violin, But held it up with a smile: ‘What am I bidden, good folks,’ he cried, ‘Who’ll start the bidding for me?’ ‘A dollar, a dollar’; then, ‘Two!’ ‘Only two? Two dollars, and who’ll make it three? Three dollars, once; three dollars, twice; Going for three—’ But n...

**Before viewing slideshow be sure to pause the music on the player located at the very bottom of this blog to be sure there is no conflict with the sound. Enjoy!I wanted to put together a slide show that told the message of the true meaning of Easter . With alot of work and help from my friend Steve Chipman, it's finally done. Except for the sketch of Mary and Joseph with the Christ child, only the pencil sketches and photographs on this slide-show are mine. Most of the other paintings I downloaded from lds.org there are a few I found on google. The music to this slide-show is called, "His Hands"-by Kenneth Cope, sung by Jenny Frogley. Please respect copyrights. None of this may be sold, copied or is meant for personal profit. My soul intention of creating this slide-show is to simply share my love and testimony of my Savior, Jesus Christ and is not meant to advertise myself or to sell art. Peace in Troubled Times
2008-03-19 18:39:00
Sometimes living in today's world can be frightening. These are some words of encouragement and hope I would like to share that I pray will bring peace and comfort in troubled times this wonderful Easter Season. The following is clipped from a talk by Elder Robert D. Hales of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles- April 2003" After teaching the multitude, Jesus and His disciples set sail for the eastern shore of the Sea of Galilee. It was night and the Savior rested comfortably near the stern, asleep on a pillow. In time “there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship.” Terrified, the disciples awakened Him: “Master, carest thou not that we perish?” 1 His answer was characteristically calm: “Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?” 2 “And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace , be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” 3 He who had created the earth was again commanding the elements. 4 In wonderment, His discipl...

I'm excited to say that this year we will have a new addition to our family. There is nothing like holding a newborn baby in my arms. My other children are so excited too. They can't wait. I feel very ready for my fourth. I pray for a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery. Here are a couple of poems about newborn's. God bless you!Have a wonderful day!Alicia They are idols of hearts and of households! They are angels of God in disguise; The sunlight still sleeps in their tresses,His glory still gleams in their eyes; These truants from home and from Heaven,They have made me more gentle and mild; And I know now how Jesus could likenThe kingdom of God to a child.By- Charles M. DickinsonYour tiny hand, Holds mine so sure-Your precious hand, So clean and pure. With all your trust, You cling to me-No worries or cares, Of what might be.A light in the dark, A shining star,An angel from heaven, Is what you are. This joy I feel, I can't express;you've brought my life Such happiness.I have more Th...

Favorite Talk Radio Celeb's
2008-03-17 21:15:00
My mother would have never guessed that one day I would be hooked on Talk Radio . I always gave her a bad time about listening to such "boring" stations. I don't know if it's having children getting older, (I'm 30 this year) or just the direction of our Country that has changed my taste.... but I pay much more attention to Politics and Economy now days. Two of my very favorite Radio Personalities are Dave Ramsey and Glenn Beck.Dave Ramsey gives wonderful financial advise that I completely and whole heartedly agree with. He is entertaing to listen to and always respectful to his listeners. My favorite line of his is "The ulitmate way to financial peace is to walk with the Prince of Peace daily, Christ Jesus."You can check out Dave's website at http://www.daveramsey.com/Glenn Beck is my daily dose of humor and political sense. He is hysterical to listen to... I love his show. He's very down to earth, sincere and really gives some clear thinking on some of the most hot button issues...

Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah
2008-03-15 18:20:00
My heart is full and I feel very humbled. I watched a powerful movie last night called, "Emmanuel 's Gift." If you have never seen this movie I recomend you go find it and watch it as soon as you can. You will see your life very differently after this!Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah grew up a disabled orphan from Ghana. He rose above poverty and severe physical, enviromental and cultural challenges to become in my mind one of the greatest hero's of this Century... not just because he overcame these increadible odds for his own life but because he lives to inspire, help and encourage others to rise to the greatness within themselves too and contribute their own gifts back into society. He is a true Hero! He is beautiful, absolutely beautiful! This man is completely inspired by God and a gift from heaven to the whole world. His story has touched my life! I've created a link to Emmanuel's website where you can donate or find out information to help the disabled and encourage you to visit her...
Babies don't keep.
2008-03-14 17:39:00
I spent alot of time yesterday on the computer and it was very frustrating because my internet was slow, files weren't saving, and nothing was working right. It wouldn't have been so upsetting if I could say I got something accomplished after a few hours. Instead, I ended up losing files and undoing most of the things I worked so hard on.I spent very little time with my kids and the house went to pot. Those mom's out there who have 2 yr. olds or 3 yr. olds know how quickly they can make a mess. But I'm not going to worry so much about all the mess today. And as soon as I'm done with this post.... I'm logging off for the rest of the day.I found a poem that goes with how I feel right now. I don't know who the author is... if anyone out there does, please leave it on a comment and I'll make sure I give the proper credit."Cleaning and scrubbing can wait ’til tomorrow. For babies grow up, We’ve learned to our sorrow. So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust, go to sleep. I’m rocking my ...

Gossip

I went to the thrift store the other day and found this little book for only 50 cents called, Jewels of Thought. I found some great little quotes on Gossip . They are short but to the point. I really like them:These are all by unknown authors..."It is better to say something good about a bad man, than to say something bad about a good man.""Beware of your tounge, for it is in a wet place, and can slip often.""Mud thrown is ground lost- and leaves your hands filthy.""When a bee stings, it dies. It cannot sting and live. When men [or women] sting, their better selves die. Every sting kills a better instinct. Men [and women] must not turn [or be like] bees and kill themselves in stinging others.""Always know what you are talking about, but don't always talk about what you know.""Two things are bad for the heart- running upstairs and running down people.""Remember- if you must give expression of Prejudice, Attitude and Intolerance- do not speak it but write it. Write it in the sands.......
Discovery
2008-03-10 17:33:00
I've just discovered that I can download paintings and illustrations from my Church's website and use them along with my blog. I'm excited because these images help me feel the wonderful Spirit that is found when I study the scriptures and they help to bring the Scriptures to life. I am working on a slide show to post on my blog for Easter. It will be a slide show of the Savior's life, Ministry, Crucifixion, Death, Ressurection and Atonement. Stay tuned I think you will enjoy it."Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me."- Revelations 3:20 Painting by: Del ParsonThis is one of my favorite paintings of the Savior... if you'll notice there is no handle on Christ's side of the door....the handle is on our side. It is up to us, it is our choice to let Him into our lives or not. God bless you, my friends,And have a wonderful day!Alicia
