The Prodigy

I?ll admit than I?m a big BJ Penn fan, even though I don?t usually favor guys that are so cocky. His nickname?s accurate, the guy is god-like in certain aspects of MMA and I?m sure some of his opponents have felt like they were fighting a monkey, but I liked him before I even knew that there were other organizations outside of the UFC. Being god-like in anything isn?t something that can be accomplished through hard work. Don?t get me wrong, hard work will take a lot of people to the top of their chosen profession, but there?s another level that very few will have a chance of reaching; it?s something you?re born with/God given. No matter how long I work on my BJJ, I?ll never reach his level because I wasn?t born with some of the assets he has. I?ll never be able to beat five people at a time like Kobe Bryant or make a movie like the Coen Brothers. And that?s okay. It's a good thing I'm not a betting man because I would've...broke even.The only real surprising result was Gonzaga v Werdum because I didn't think Gonzaga would just freeze like that. Sure, he's near the cage and being on your back is never ideal, but it's better than just covering your face. A little disappointing, but I was impressed by Werdum's response after eating all those leg kicks in the first round.We had issues with the pay-per-view company, so I missed Canada v Sweden, but apparently Stout won, which is okay I guess.Even though BJ Penn talks a lot of trash, I still like the bastard. I know the fights are happening as we speak, but I'm not watching it for another few hours, so I'll go with my rookie-insight picks. As an aside, I'm not going to pick the fights involving guys I know nothing about and haven't had time to research. Anyway, my picks:Penn v. Stevenson: I like Joe Daddy, but I'm not sure how he can win this one. All of Joe's strengths are inferior to Penn's, plus Penn actually seems motivated to dominate this weight division. The only way I could see Joe winning this is through a devastating hit or freak injury, which I don't see happening. Penn's jaw is like a brick wall, it doesn't crumble and he's fit. Hotel rooms are a terrible place. TV, mirror, lights, bed with a floral comforter, toilet, single-ply toilet paper, and, if you?re ?lucky,? a view that isn?t of the parking lot.
