Spokesman for the Vatican Condemns Saddam Death
2006-12-31 14:46:01 VATICAN CITY – The Vatican spokesman on Saturday denounced Saddam Hussein’s execution as “tragic” and expressed worry it might fuel revenge and new violence. The execution is “tragic and reason for sadness,” the Rev. Federico Lombardi said, speaking in French on Vatican Radio’s French-language news program. In separate comments to the station’s English program, Lombardi said that capital punishment cannot be justified “even when the person put to death is one guilty of grave crimes,” and he reiterated the Catholic Church’s overall opposition to the death penalty. Executing Saddam “is not a way to reconstruct justice” in Iraqi society, the spokesman said. “It might fuel the spirit of revenge and sow seeds of new violence.” Lombardi expressed the hope that leaders “do everything possible” so that “from this dramatic situation ways might open to reconciliation and peace.”I... The Moral Implications of the Saddam Hanging
2006-12-31 14:46:01 The big news of the day is the hanging death of Saddam Hussein, and one of the biggest questions concerning this event is whether or not is was morally correct to do so. This question is even greater in the minds of the Cat holic faithful, who on one hand see the ill effects a bloodthirsty tyrant had on a society, and on the other understand that vengeance is not the appropriate response to evil. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states: 2267 Assuming that the guilty party’s identity and responsibility have been fully determined, the traditional teaching of the Church does not exclude recourse to the death penalty, if this is the only possible way of effectively defending human lives against the unjust aggressor. If, however, non-lethal means are sufficient to defend and protect people’s safety from the aggressor, authority will limit itself to such means, as these are more in keeping with the concrete conditions of the common good and are more in conformity to the ... Why God says, ?Me Good, Psychics Bad!?
2006-12-22 20:43:01 I actually saw her (Sylvia Browne) live for a taping of an old television talk show called “The Other Side.” I was there to support one of the coolest high school organizations in the entire United States, the marching band. Anyway, she had the whole audience do some breathing meditations as she described all the colors of the rainbow (no joke!). I broke out in laughter during a moment of silence, but pretended I was coughing, so that I wasn’t asked to leave. I guess my cover-up was believable, since one of the ushers asked if I needed water. Blogging?s Not Enough for This Bishop!
2006-12-22 08:42:02 From the Boston Globe: The blogging cardinal is about to start podcasting. Television plans to launch a souped up website that will feature, among other attractions, downloadable Christmas video messages in English, Spanish, and Portuguese from Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley, the Roman Catholic archbishop of Boston. Starting early next year, O’Malley also plans to regularly record video messages for downloading from the Internet. The Catholic Church, which lags behind some other denominations in its embrace of Internet technologies, is rapidly expanding its use of new technology in its search for souls. Cardinal Edward M. Egan of New York recently started a satellite radio show, and the late Pope John Paul II, starting in 2003, offered daily text messages to cellphone users. O’Malley, a Capuchin Franciscan friar who has taken a vow of poverty and is a frequent critic of American consumer culture, is rapidly emerging as an unlikely pioneer in the use of new media by a 2,... 2006-12-22 08:42:02 Is your parish too far of a drive to make it to adoration during the day? Or perhaps your watered-down Cathlolic parish only has adoration once a month on a Monday afternoon for an hour, when you happen to still be at work? Well, no worries my devout Catholic bretheren and sisteren, you can now adore Christ’s body, blood, soul, and divinity online. The Community of The Monks of Adoration Chapel have set up a webcam and offer everyone around the world to see and worship our Blessed Lord through the internet. Pro-Homosexual Dissenter Wins Mother Theresa of the Year Awa
2006-12-22 08:42:02 From Life Site News: Los Angeles, December 19, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Sister Jeannine Gramick, who became a notorious figure after she was ordered by the Vatican in 2000 to desist from all pastoral work involving homosexuals, has been honored by being named a 2006 Mother Teresa Award Laureate. The award was presented to Sr. Gramick this past November. Begun in 2005, the Mother Teresa Awards were instituted to “recognize the achievements for those who beautify the world, especially in the fields of religion, social justice and the arts,” according to the Awards website. In the past, the award, which is sponsored by the St. Bernadette Institute of Sacred Art, has been given to such prominent and orthodox Catholic figures as Mother Angelica, John Paul II, and Fr. Benedict Groeschel. According to the Institute Sr. Gramick was named a Mother Teresa Awards Laureate, “for her role as American Human Rights Activist, especially in the field of Spirituality.” In... Landmark Catholic-Orthodox Talks
2006-12-22 08:42:02 From the BBC: The head of the Greek Orthodox Church, Archbishop Christodoulos, has met the Pope in Rome as part of efforts to bring their two churches together. It was the first official meeting at the Vatican between Greece’s most senior cleric and the leader of the world’s Roman Cat holics. Their talks focused on attempts to end the Great Schism that dates from 1054. They also appealed for an end to religious violence, and pledged to defend Christianity in Europe. Forgiveness Relations between the Greek Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church have improved in recent years. The visit by Pope John Paul II to Greece in 2001 played an important part in that process. It was the first visit by the head of the Catholic Church to Greece since the Churches split in 1054 - into what some have described as the Eastern and Western Churches. The previous pope met Christodoulos in Greece in 2001 On that trip Pope John Paul asked for forgiveness for past wrongs by Catholics t... More About: Talk , Land , Mark
What?s the Real Meaning of Christmas?
2006-12-13 20:40:02 We as Catholics all know the real meaning of Christ mas . In fact, if someone came up to you in the street with a microphone and asked you what its meaning was, I have no doubt that every red blooded Catholic would say: “Well, the word Christmas comes from the old english phrase `Cristes moesse` which means `the mass of Christ.` It is the time when the entire Christian world celebrates the birth of the God-Man Jesus. Jesus of Nazareth was the Messiah who came to save the world from the destructive power of sin and death, and it is by his passion that we are given the birthright to be sons of God the Father.” Of course, this is the standard response that most Christians would retort, but not everyone knows what Christmas is all about. Enjoy this Christmas moment from the IgniterMedia group. More About: What , Hat , Meaning
Cardinal Milingo Is At It Again!
2006-12-13 14:40:01 From All Headline News: Trenton, NJ (AHN) - An excommunicated Catholic archbishop continues to defy the Pope by ordaining married priests. Former Roman Catholic Archbishop Emmanuel Milingo was excommunicated by Pope Benedict XVI in October after he ordained four married priests as bishops. Milingo has long called on the church to change the centuries old law, yet when he began his own ordinations, the church had enough. Milingo says, “Jesus Christ himself never commented on adding celibacy to priesthood, even as he ordained the apostles,” and adds that allowing priests to marry will help end a shortage of clergy within the church. An estimated 70,000 priests leave their posts each year in order to marry. The Archbishop shocked the Vatican in 2001 by marrying a Korean in a mass wedding ceremony in New York. He renounced his marriage a few months later after being threatened by excommunication. After a year of church ordered “rehabilitation”, he the... More About: Card , Again , Cardinal , Dina

Favorite Christian Artists: KJ-52 & Pijeon John
2006-12-13 14:40:01 Check out the video to the remix of the song “Revenge of the Nerds.” Both KJ-52 and Pigeon John are excellent when it comes to hip hop, and each of them comes to the table with their own style. Both deliver laughs as well as catchy beats in most of their songs, and they aren’t afraid of a little self-deprecation. Very refreshing lyrics compared to the “I gots money in da bank” and “check out all my “, while still maintaining a fresh sound and danceable rhythm. Great music oto listen to. Need for Creed
2006-12-13 14:40:01 This video comes from a 15 part educational video for a CCD class. It’s pretty funny once you get over the fact that it was done using a home video camera, and it can be decently informative about the faith. Woohoo! Got Most of My Posts Back!
2006-12-13 14:40:01 I was able to import most of my posts from blogger finally. They are all ungategorized at the moment, but I’ll eventually reassigned them properly. Unfortunately with blogger beta it is tough to get all your posts to import into wordpress. But at least I was able to get about 100 of them back. I’ll share a little something with all of you. My hope is that this blog, along with a wiki system I am testing, will be a repository not only for apologetic information, but also as an interactive expression of Catholic culture through humor, the arts, and even science. Unfortunately, Catholicism is looked unfavorably by most of society. I, like most people, did not find Jesus in the Church as I was growing up, and saw Catholicism as dull and limp. But my journey from darkness to grace opened my eyes to the wonderfully artistic, and often funny culture of the Catholic Church, and of life in general. So what I’m saying is, it will not consist o... More About: Post , Back , Most , Posts

Newlywed Gays Lose Out On Communion
2006-12-13 14:40:01 A story from the Chronicle Herald: A Roman Catholic couple say they?re being driven from the church over the archbishop?s opposition to their same-sex union. After Daniel Poirier and Jack Murphy of Meteghan Centre got married in May, the two 69-year-olds placed an announcement and photograph in The Chronicle Herald. When the notice appeared, the couple?s priest at Stella Maris in Meteghan told them that Archbishop Terrence Prendergast, head of the Halifax archdiocese and administrator of the Yarmouth diocese, which includes Meteghan, had directed that they could no longer receive communion or assume any leadership position in the church. That meant Mr. Poirier could no longer serve as a director of the choir at Stella Maris. “It really was a blow,” Mr. Poirier said Wednesday. “When we went to church there, it was like going into a warehouse; it was cold, because when everybody got up to receive communion, we had to sit down. “One day we went and the priest ta... More articles from this author:2006-12-13 14:40:01 Pastor Tony Smith has a message to preach about the Cat holic Church, and that message is one that you cannot refuse.
