Grail Seekers this week: The snow in Nashville must have made me a little salty this morning, given some of my quips in the news section this week. Or maybe it's because I have to go to work on my off day because people in the Athens of the South can't figure out how to drive in the snow. At any rate, here’s another week in the can from the Grail Seeker’s news desk. On Audio: Ann Masai will be on the Laura Lee Show on the 15th discussing the Black Madonna. In the News: The Grand Master of Freemasons in Venezuela is shot during an apparent kidnapping attempt this week. My condolences go out to his family. Eight Jewish students are killed during a terrorist attack near the Western Wall in Jerusalem. Once again, my thoughts and prayers go out to their families. The Knights of Malta want you to know they hold no secrets. Other than the fact they have diplomatic immunity and passports that let them walk through walls. Academics think Moses was smoki...

Will a Hawaii Man's Grail Vision Return this Easter?
2008-03-07 19:09:00
It’s hard to delve into any topic related to the Holy Grail without finding one’s self faced with miraculous events. Whether the mystic phenomena are found in the pages of Grail literature or those who have had experiences with Grail related relics or places; one is hard pressed to side step the Grail’s mystical nature. We either believe or discount these mystical stories based on our belief system and ultimately faith itself. Hebrews 11:1 tells us that “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” This is the best definition of faith I have ever seen because it encapsulates the very personal experience in matters of one’s belief. Those who seek any of the facets of the Grail possess some sort of faith. That faith can range from the historical/archaeological end of the spectrum to that of the Grail being a miraculous gift from on high. Last June I was contacted by a man from Hawaii that has this type of faith in the Grail. ...

Latest News from the Temple Mount
2008-03-05 17:41:00
The Temple Mount area of Jerusalem has been in the news again over the past two weeks. Yesterday, The Jerusalem Post reported that, “Police on Tuesday stopped Wakf Muslim trust officials from performing unauthorized construction work on the Temple Mount .” Over the last year, there has been tension between Wakf officials and the Israeli government over Muslim restoration work damage to artifacts on the Temple Mount. The situation is as complicated as they get in the world of religious politics of the Middle East. The Wakf is the body that administrates the Temple Mount’s daily operations, while the Israeli government is charged with the site’s security. The Wakf maintains that the Temple Mount was not really the site of any Jewish Temples. The Israeli government has a vested interest in preserving the evidence of this being the site of any of the Temples to strengthen their claim on the Mount. The Wakf, has the opposite interest to suppress anything that might prove...

Here a Grail, There a Grail: Grail Cups Part 2
2008-01-27 15:23:00
Continuing on with the series, Here a Grail There a Grail, we look at five more vessels that are thought by some to be the Holy Grail. Next time, we’ll examine the following vessels: Agrati's Grail, Bruges Grail, Lucca Grail, and the Sacro Catino. Abbot Suger's Chalice (Image Link) The Chalice bears the name for the Benedictine leader of Saint Denis; Abbot Suger (1122 -1151). The Saint Denis area of Paris has been associated with the burial of French royalty since the time of Dagobert I. A majority of French royalty, including Dagobert I, are buried in the present basilica. The basilica was the mastermind of Suger himself. He felt in building the basilica that the “use of rare materials gives glory to God”. This was in opposition of Bernard of Clairveau who felt hat churches should has beautiful art work, but the use of gold and precious stones was unnecessary. The Chalice in the above link is actually one of four Chalices that have survived to present day...

Here a Grail, There a Grail: Grail Cups Part 1
2008-01-18 00:38:00
In reading the headlines over the last year, one would think that finding the Holy Grail was as easy as picking up a shell on a shoreline. It would seem almost trendy to pick a location for the final resting place of the world’s greatest treasure. The fact is that there are more candidates for the Holy Grail out there than one could shake a rather large stick at. This is the first part of a series chronicling some of the different types and traditions of the Grail. In this first installment of “Here a Grail, There a Grail”, we’ll focus on the Grail as some sort of vessel. This is, by far, the most predominate theory of the nature of the Grail. Most traditions link the Grail as being a vessel used at the Last Supper, although this is not always the case. The following are a description of vessels that hold to being the Grail. This will be the first part of this article. The list was just too long to present in one blog. Antioch Chalice (Image Link) This cup w...

Iceland: The Land of Björk and the Holy Grail?
2008-01-10 15:39:00
The location of the Holy Grail has made yet another appearance in the main stream media. Grail Seekers everywhere are now directed to the land of geothermal power, Björk, glaciers, and The Sugarcubes; Iceland . The publication Iceland Review published the theory of architect Thórarinn Thórarinsson and Italian cartographer Giancarlo Gianazza on 2 Jan 08. The pair believes the final depository of the Grail is in a five meter secret passage in the rural district Hrunamannahreppur (try saying that five times real fast, or finding it on Goggle Earth for that matter). The area in question is near the Kjölur Mountain pass in a place that Gianazza calls the seats of White Rose of the Blessed and Beatrice. Thórarinsson has also secured the necessary approval from the Hrunamannahreppurian authorities to conduct digs in the area to validate their claims. The Iceland Review article doesn’t go into much detail on how the duo came to believe the Grail lay in Iceland. Luckily...

The Debate over the Rosslyn Motet Heats Up
2008-01-08 17:52:00
Over the last few weeks, there’s been an interesting exchange happening in the comments section of BS Historian’s article Rosslyn Chapel’s musical cubes silenced? For those of you not familiar with the article or the comment thread, there are some serious questions about Stuart Mitchell’s Rosslyn Motet by BS Historian and Jeff Nisbet. The basis of the detractors from the Motet is that an 1860’s restoration team replaced a great number of cubes in Rosslyn Chapel. This theory is supported by lithographs done in 1837 by Samuel Dukinfield Swarbreck. In these lithographs, Swarbreck depicts a great number of missing cubes from the ceiling at Rosslyn. This would mean that the basic theory behind the Rosslyn Motet is not accurate. The Mitchell’s theory behind the Motet is that the Sinclair family encoded the cubes with Chladni patterns to conceal a piece of music. What happens to the basic premise if cubes were added in the at a later date? This isn’t the first t...

Grail Seekers this week: I thought I’d hold off on doing the news until today this week. It seems appropriate to wrap up the year this way. Once again I’d like to thank everyone out there that has been so supportive of my work this year. I can only hope that next year is as interesting and productive as 2007 was. I ask my wife yesterday what her New Year’s resolutions were. She, rather curtly, informed me that she did not believe in them. How could I have missed that small fact in the years we had been together? Obviously, I don’t listen as well as I should. So guess what my resolution is this year… Don’t forget to eat your black-eyed peas, cabbage, hog jowl, and any other food that mystically will bring you good luck for the New Year. Myself, I’m going to warm up some haggis and wish I was in Edinburgh for Hogmanay. On Audio: Steven Mehler will talk about the waterways beneath Giza's Pyramids on 1 Jan 08 on the Laura Lee show. The Holy Grail Has Been Found, Again…
2007-12-28 14:17:00
The news hit the streets yesterday, via the Evening Times, that historian and author Mark Oxbrow has put his hat in the ring for discovering the location of the Holy Grail. This marks the third time this year that the Grail has been found. The first was in June when Italian archeologist Alfredo Barbagallo announced that the Grail was in Basilica of San Lorenzo Fuori le Mura in Rome. Another location of the elusive Grail came from Ferhat Kanarya. He pinpointed the Grail’s resting place in the Hagia Sophia. It would seem that Oxbrow has confirmed that Dan Brown was partially right, the Grail is in the Louvre. However, it does not rest under I.M. Pei’s pyramid. Oxbrow theorizes that the Grail has been on display in the Louvre for years, and no one has noticed it. That was until he and his wife visited the Paris museum. Oxbrow’s Grail is actually the Patene de Serpentine, a jewel encrusted dish dating back in the 100BC to 100 AD range. The dish was used in Saint-De...

Grail Seekers this week: Have a holly, jolly Christmas everyone. I hope Santa brings you all the goodies that your heart desires. I myself ask for a winning lottery ticket, but somehow I don’t think I’ve been that good this year. And please, don’t forget to go out and do something for your fellow man. Rosslyn Chapel to Ban Photography
2007-12-20 15:17:00
According to a Scotsman article Tuesday, the officials at Rosslyn Chapel are banning all types of photography inside the Chapel beginning 2 Jan 08. According to the article: “Colin Glynne-Percy, the director of the Rosslyn Chapel Trust, said: "I would hope that people come to see the chapel, not just to video it, so I would expect visitor numbers to be unchanged. The problem is one we have had for quite a while, because the chapel is quite dimly lit and there are cracked and uneven slabs.” Huh? The problem with this explanation is that visitors will be at the same risk of tipping while looking at the ceiling, or photographing it. While there are areas of the Chapel that has, what I would consider, uneven slabs. Around the Apprentice Pillar, there is a small step up behind pillar. You’d have to be a pretty big klutz to trip over this small step up. I would think the scaffoldings around the outside of the Chapel would be more of a safety concern. The steps up to th...

National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets Review
2007-12-20 06:02:00
The allure of a seeing something on the silver screen is that you are mystically transported out of your everyday life. Reality is suspended and any numbers of worlds open up that are impossible to obtain for those munching on popcorn in the aisles. Our inner Indiana Jones is called to in National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets . Nicholas Cage reprises his role as Benjamin Franklin Gates, finder of the lost Masonic/Templar treasure in the first film. The hook this time is a little known group called the Knights of the Golden Circle (KGC). The KCG was a very real group of Southern sympathizers that operated as somewhat of a guerilla force during, and after, the Civil War. Modern day treasure hunters have long thought that the KGC horded gold and goods in secret locations throughout the country waiting until the time was right for the South to rise again. The movie’s treasure trail begins with John Wilkes Booth and another member of the Knights of the Golden Circle (KGC) seeki...

A Guide to Masonic Symbolism for the Non-Mason
2007-12-19 17:25:00
With this week’s release of National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets and the buzz about Dan Brown’s new book The Solomon Key, discussions on the web will invariably turn their attention to Mason ic symbolism. The number of queries relating to: “What does this Masonic symbol mean?” or “What do you think about my theory on where this Masonic symbol derives from?” are already floating my way in an increasing rate. The topic will stimulate some to do good hard core research into the topic. Others will take flights of fancy and ascribe any number of attributes to the symbols of the Craft. I thought I might head off some of the wild speculations at the pass with a guide to what symbols used in Masonry mean to this Mason. Hopefully, this will help those who have an interest in the topic pick their way around a rather complex subject. At that, I understand that all of you out there that are detractors of Masonry will rail against what I have to say here. That’s your righ...

The Family Life Church versus the Compasses and Square
2007-12-18 00:09:00
The Burning Taper reported this week that the Family Life Church in Eglin, IL destroyed a Masonic compasses and square and the cornerstone of a former Masonic Temple the group recently purchased. I must admit that upon hearing the news I was more than a little miffed. Thought of: “How could they?”, “What were they thinking?”,” What do they hate Freemasons so much as to destroy a compasses and square?”, all flooded thought my mind.I decided that I was in the same trap I rail against at times. Emotion was taking the place of rational thought. A good night’s sleep and a cup of coffee the next morning generally will cure my ruffled feathers. True to form, the day break and caffeine gave me some perspective on the events in Illinois. The fact of the matter is that the building legally belongs to the Family Life Church. As much as I shutter at the fact the organization would deface a historic building and smash a Masonic Symbol, it is their right to do so. Just as ...

Templar Dig in Bulgaria
2007-12-10 04:32:00
The news last week of the modern day Templar Organization Ordo Supremus Militaris Templi Hierosolymitani (OSMTH) will begin excavations in the Russe region of Bulgaria isn’t really news. At least the part about archeological activity in Russe relating to the Templars isn’t news. Back in April, archeologist Nikolai Ovcharov conducted a survey of the area for direct evidence of Templar holdings at the behest of the OSMTH. Ovcharov, the self titled “Indiana Jones of Bulgaria”, came to international attention in the archeological community when he announced coming into possession of a 7,000 year old tablet. According to Ovcharov, the stone contains the world’s earliest example of a written language. It would now seem that the OSMTH has taken up the role of financing excavations in the Russe region. The OSMTH have dubbed the dig the “Nisovo Project”. Nisovo is a small village near the Romanian border. The above link cites that “remains of closes ancient necrop...
The Miraculous Templar Diamond
2007-12-08 15:01:00
Last month, I had cited a press release to the nearly unbelievable story of a diamond being discovered that had a near perfect Templar Cross in the center of the stone. Last night, I was able to talk to the diamond’s owner David Rafaeli in depth about his find. Rafaeli has been a diamond broker in the Los Angeles area for a number of years. Like many dealers, trips to brokerage centers in Antwerp or Tel Aviv are a common occurrence. It was on one of these trips to Israel last fall that Rafaeli found himself bidding on a lot with the Templar Diamond . “I was the only one that recognized the significance of the diamond”, Rafaeli said. What is so special about the diamond? The stone is a 2.73 carat green-yellow diamond with a very distinctive four-sided, Templar like Cross. The cross has been formed by a dark spot almost dead center in the center of the stone. Extracted recently in a South African diamond mine and cut in Israel, Rafaeli claims that the Cross could not ...

Richard Leigh is Dead?
2007-11-29 06:29:00
The RLC Research news page reported yesterday that Richard Leigh , co-author of Holy Blood, Holy Grail , died on 21 Nov 07. At this time I have not been able to confirm this through any news source other than the link at RLC. The folks at RLC are quite connected with folks in the “Grail World”. At this point, I have on reason to doubt the validity of the story. I’ll post if I find out anything different or see an official statement. No matter what you thought of Leigh’s works, he will be remembered for drawing attention to the Rennes-le-Chateau mysteries. How many of us we first introduced to this world after reading Holy Blood, Holy Grail? The possibilities that were presented in that one book have opened the eyes of the world to possibilities that were never before imagined. For that alone we can thank Richard.

Longevity and the Grail Review
2007-11-27 15:47:00
Last month I posted a video clip of Red Ice Creations short documentary Longevity and the Grail. This morning I finally had a chance to sit down and check out brothers Henrik and Fredrik Palmgren’s first foray into short films. The documentary explores a nexus point of symbolism, emerging science and science fiction as it relates to cloning. The Palmgrens have done so by making connections with key players in the world of cloning and the human genome project. Groups like: the Methuselah Foundation, Sinclair Research, the Roslin Institute, and Clonaid efforts to advance the genetic sciences have been thrown into the ring. Each of these groups have either subtle or overt symbolic connections to topics as wide as the Grail, Freemasonry, the Templars, and Aliens. The documentary then goes into their present work and how some of their actions and public presentations can be viewed in a symbolic nature. Some might view the ties the Palmgrens make as tenuous. However, there is...
