Civic Responsibility, Compassion, Walking the Talk
2008-04-01 18:10:00
I’m one of those who other’s call social or liberal, in being a businesswoman, often they are saying this about me in a negative way. Yet I believe at the core that we, as humans, Americans, inhabitants of cities, counties, living in neighborhoods, have a civic responsibility to each other and our community. I live in a small area of town but I’m a part of the larger city, my company is in a small part of the city but I service customers all over the globe, everyone is treated the same. We’ve all heard the saying “Think Globally and Act Locally”, it has great merit, think of the whole but act in your zone of influence. A quote I recently saw from His Holiness the Dalai Lama really brought this home and rang so true: “Adopting an attitude of universal responsibility is essentially a personal matter. The real test of compassion is not what we say in abstract discussions but how we conduct ourselves in daily life.” -His Holiness the Dal...

Serpent Symbolism in Dreams and Myth | Christina Bjergo
2008-03-27 00:02:00
Serpents in dreams, myth and art around the world reflect the cycles of Nature moving one forward in the evolution of consciousness. Pagans, Mystery schools of Greece and Egypt, indigenous cultures around the world as well as matriarchal societies throughout history view serpents as symbols of the divine feminine of the earth and the instinctual nature (dreambody) leading us towards enlightenment. These traditions find the joyful expression of the body through movement, music and embracing life provides a spiritual dimension for connecting with one’s Self through the Dreamtime. For as modern research reveals, the body is the subconscious mind. Serpents come in dreams, visions and other intuitive messages to help our bodymind work through and clear our stuff. Through listening and acting on their guidance, we release our subconscious baggage and resolve the sense of separation within ourselves (that we habitually reflect outwardly onto the world around us in...

Mind Mapping Your Dreams for Interpretation
2008-03-13 21:29:00
After posting several articles on dream interpretation and mind mapping your dreams, a commenter asked if I had an example of how I mind map my dreams. In this post you will see a jpg of a sample mind map I created using “Mind jet MindManager” software yet doing a Wikipedia search will yield some great hand drawn mind maps. As you look at the photo you can see that I try to explain each symbol all alone and emanating further out. Then I create an offshoot or a cloud off that symbol with what the meaning of the symbol is to me. From there you can see that as I dream I notice the same symbols or meanings come up over and over. Once I know a symbol or I know what a series of symbols means, I can associate them to other dreams down the line. Eventually you start to recognize the meanings quicker because you recognize the pattern. It’s not perfect, your meanings for a dream might change as you grow but the thread of meaning is always there. I use mind mapping to b...

Oprah, Eckhart Tolle, A New World
2008-03-05 01:53:00
Who else brings the masses new ideas with such enthusiasm? Who else can take spiritual awakening and make them buzz words in global culture? Oprah is the one. Her latest media event “Oprah’s Bookclub: A New Earth”, using a book authored by Eckhart Tolle , brought over 500,000 people online (via skype technology) to take part in a 10 week class led by Eckhart and Oprah. When I first heard about it, I have to be honest, I didn’t give it much thought. I’m not one who follows Oprah, maybe it’s her mass marketing arm that turns me off, yet I’ve always been one who admired her for her promotion skills. I take back everything I said about her marketing madness at a party a few weeks ago, this woman has power and not only has power but she gets spiritual awakenings and just the same work we and readers of this blog do everyday. So, I downloaded the book to my eReader, hit her website and off I went. Right away I was struck with how Eckhart bring...

Inner Smile on a Cold Day
2008-01-18 17:59:00
Yesterday was one of those days, you wake-up completely on the wrong side of the bed. Tripping, spilling, cursing the morning away. I thought for sure it was going to be a horrible day. To boot, I’m late and there is ice all over my car. So, after de-icing the car and cranking up the heat I feel the heat of being late. Not that I was going to get in trouble, I just really hate to be late anywhere. So, there I am in my car, driving through my neighborhood, thinking of nothing but being late and how bad of a morning it was. Freeze……Can you see how the day is shaping? It’s going to be bad and I’m determined to make it so. Ok Go! As I get to a corner in my neighborhood I notice my neighbor and her grandchild waiting for the bus. This woman always waves to me and I wave back but it will take a huge undertaking to remove my negative thoughts. And then it happend. Although I might have been 20 degrees and ice everywhere, her Grandchild looked up with...

Qigong, Dreams & Serpent Initiation
2008-01-10 17:53:00
Contributing Author: Christina Bjergo, LAc Grand Master of Sacred Serpent Spiral Qigong When I started utilizing and teaching Sacred Serpent Spiral Qigong in November 2006 I had no idea where the journey would take me. By incorporating this unique form of movement meditation into a weekly routine practice, however, so began a period of tremendous spiritual growth beyond my wildest expectations. One of the main benefits of this form of qigong is that it connects people to their innate body wisdom – allowing movement, feelings, images and impressions to spontaneously arise from the world of the unconscious, from the world of God. This access to divine energy and wisdom is further explored through visual artistic expression and automatic writing. It is a time to have fun, be playful and for many such as myself to experience a newfound sense of freedom and Self. But the benefits extend outside of the classroom. In addition to increased feelings of joyfulness, peace ...

Created by those wonderfully enlightened folks at [The Middle Way], [Zen-Inspired Self Development], and [UrbanMonk.net]. To read Beyond Zen’s part of the project, check out this post: A Story of Compassion and Dying. I want all of our readers to also enjoy some of the great writing from this project; stories of compassion, concepts of compassion from many spiritual themes, and discussions on definition of the word “Compassion”. Interview with Leslie Blackburn
2008-01-07 17:20:00
Kris Vockler interviews Leslie Blackburn ; Artist, Engineer, and Yogini. KV: We first met on a Sacred Journey to Egypt in November of 2007, what events prompted you to take this trip and what had you hoped to get out of it? LB: Egypt called me about five years prior to the trip, as I was opening up to an awareness of a connection with Egypt that’s been reflected in many things during my life. I remember creating a Sphinx out of paper maché in 2nd grade, writing a paper on how I wanted to be an Archaeologist when I was in 5th grade, and a strong connection to cats, especially big cats (pumas, panthers, tigers) which I view as power animals of mine. As I started to piece these things together I consulted with a wonderful psychic advisor of mine asking her why I was feeling this draw to Egypt? What should I be aware of? She knowingly plunked a statue of Sekhmet in front of me, lent me a copy of “Initiation” by Elizabeth Haich, and put me in contact with Body Mind Spirit Jou...

Buddha Poke; Buddha is Not A Warm Puppy
2008-01-03 17:52:00
Some time back I got one of those 365 Pep Talks From Buddha books (365 pep talks from Buddha by Robert Allen), often I read it and one of the following is a response: “Whoa”, “What the?”, “Duh”, “I don’t get it”, “oh yes”. So, why not share it with everyone….my responses that is. Today’s Buddha Poke : #165 “Buddha Is Not A Warm Puppy ” In the West Buddhism tends to attract nice, kindly, liberal-minded folk. That’s great because you can never have too many of those people around. The trouble is that they tend to see the Buddha as warm, cuddly, and compassionate. the last is true, but not the first two. Buddhism is really about getting up off your backside and saving yourself.” “Wow” is todays reponse, I feel so….I dunno…..Liberal-minded. Then again, I do live in Portland, Oregon. Winter Solstice Labyrinth Walk…
2008-01-02 04:01:00
Winter Solstice is behind us and the light of spring soon to come. I for one could not be happier to be on the downward spin towards the light. The last several years I’ve paid more attention to changes in the seasons and special times of the year, older cultures than ours welcomed with festival. One of the events I added this Winter Solstice was a Labyrinth Walk .According to “Walking a Sacred Path; Rediscovering the Labyrinth as a Spiritual Path” by Lauren Artress, Labyrinth’s date back 4,000 years and have been a part of every religious or spiritual culture known to man. Created and tied to sacred geometry yet differing from a maze as it has no “dead ends” and is one continuous path to the center and back out.The Labyrinth above is the classic Chartres Labyrinth, laid in the cathedral floor around 1,200 AD and is similar to the small scale version I walked on the Winter Solstice. As mentioned above, Labyrinth’s have touched many faith...

Power of Gratitude…How To.
2007-12-28 19:55:00
There are so many tools for which one can bolster and build their spiritual path, one of the most powerful is Gratitude . It’s a simple act yet has so many chemical reactions in the brain and affects on life. Gratitude at it’s definition is a positive emotion or attitude in acknowledgment of a benefit that one has received or will receive. Yet it goes further than that, it’s not just something that one has received but a practice in seeing the gifts that might not be so obvious. Doing some practice in seeing what you might have that needs gratitude can be all that one needs to get started. Often we overlook things we need Gratitude in; our family, waking up in the morning, our meditation practice, the sun, the rain, a co-worker, our health. It need not be saved for that which was just given to us, the act of expressing Gratitude builds a positive flow of energy to us. Now, it’s time to try the practice out, maybe starting with the following post on Grat...

Dream Interpretation; What Does it all Mean?
2007-12-27 19:13:00
We have written about dreams several times here at the blog, and how people find us in Search Engines is a lot of the time in searching for dream interpretation. Yet it’s not all that easy of a task to just look-up a meaning and see if it fits. No matter if you come from a Jungian or Shamanic view of dreams, they will remain a personal part of you. How can a dictionary of dreams help this? Often it can add insight, prime the pump and help you, picking a dream dictionary is difficult but most people I know will pick several and one just resonates with them. The key is figuring out what it means to you. Several searches by readers here have been things such as; “What does a Chinese or Asian person mean in my dreams?” Depending on where you live and in which culture you grew up, the answer will be different. What does an Asian person mean to you, how do you feel about them; holders of eastern knowledge or maybe you subscribe to the ‘bad driver’ ment...
