I Love April 1st
2008-04-01 21:33:00 April 1st is an amazing day. It's a day where you can refine your skeptical senses.. How do you determine what's real and what is fake? What do you base those views on? Why? April fools day is a day where the reliable become tricky and the unreliable... well, they stay that way. Some people just reveal how much of an asshat they are. An example is Ray Comfort claiming that today should be National Atheist Day. Is he kidding? Probably. But I don't really care because so much of what he's said in previous posts reflect the same kind of ignorance of an atheist viewpoint.Quick news items for April 1, 2008:There's a WOOT-OFF TODAY.Atheist Experience is canceling due to all the atheists having a change in opinion..Here's the Top 10 Creationist AccomplishmentsA Flying Spaghetti Monster Statue is placed outside a Tennessee Courthouse More About: Love , April
AdblockPlus: Ethical?
2008-03-25 20:47:00 AdblockPlus is a very cool, but very worrying add-on for Firefox. I think it's in the "right" legally because of the technical aspects. What AdblockPlus does is block ads that appear on web pages. Advertisements are typically a large portion of a website's profit so this brings up a very serious problem. Is AdblockPlus ethical to use? What effect will this have on internet advertising? The simple version of way a browser works is as follows:Client program (browser) requests web page data.Server sends web page data.Client program parses the data so that the user can view and interact with the web page.Note: I know this isn't close to all the requests that the browser makes. You can view any web page's source code in your browser. There are some ways that a web developer can 'hide' this information but usually this process includes javascript encryption and description. Not every browser can support javascript so it is in the best interest for the web developer to not use this met...
Godtube Makes Me Smile Once Again
2008-03-18 22:09:00 ... and no, it's not because a little kid has used his superior intellect to disprove all atheists. I did smile, however, because he literally parrots many of the points that The Way of the Master brings up. In case your wondering The Way of the Master is a TV series that Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort has made that tries to act as a way of spreading their apologetic hogwash across the world. So go ahead and watch this video and I will comment on some of the arguments that he brings up and express my opinion on the video. After watching the video I was a little ticked off. Not because I disagree with every single one of his points (which I do) but because he doesn't even know what an atheist is. He begins by quoting the bible. He apparently thinks it is a valid to claim to use the bible as proof for his argument... Well it isn't. You first have to prove that the bible is, in fact, the word of his god and to do that he has to prove that his god actually exists and then give some evide... More About: Smile , Godtube
Hitchens and Boteach Debate on God
2008-03-12 05:32:00 I watched a very interesting debate today. It included Christopher Hitchens and Rabbi Shmuley Boteach and was moderated by Dr. Neil Gillman. This was all done at New York's 92nd Street Y on January 30, 2008.Hitchens began by reciting the refutations of the most common justifications for the need for a good. Deism was the first to go because a creator would need another creator and would regress infinitely. He continues his argument by refuting the idea of a personal god. Now, Rabbi Boteach then starts to argue about complexity and how it's incredibly unlikely that we were not designed. Yeah, the same old argument. At least he doesn't go so far as wave a banana at the camera and decree that "God wins" like Ray Comfort seems to like to do. The rabbi continues to argue and, when doing so, slips into preach mode. He later tries to attack evolution which, to me, has nothing at all to do with the existence of god. If evolution is completely wrong and completely falsified then that would... More About: Debate
Jesus Loves the Little Zygotes
2008-03-11 02:14:00 I thought this poem was brilliant. It was read on the episode 7.3 of the Non-Prophets radio show. 2008-03-05 00:12:00 FSTDT.com Fundies Say the Darnest Things is an archive of the most hilarious, bizarre, ignorant, bigoted, and terrifying quotes from fundies all over the internet! Here is a couple of quotes that I thought were so completely outrageous that I needed to share them here:------------------------------------ ----------------------No, everyone is born Christian. Only later in life do people choose to stray from Jesus and worship satan instead. Atheists have the greatest "cover" of all, they insist they believe in no god yet most polls done and the latest research indicates that they are actually a different sect of Muslims. Trinidad and TobagoOne of the most basic laws in the universe is the Second Law of Thermodynamics. This states that as time goes by, entropy in an environment will increase. Evolution argues differently against a law that is accepted EVERYWHERE BY EVERYONE. Evolution says that we started out simple, and over time became more comp... More About: Quotes
Godtube: Yay for God.
2008-02-27 03:20:00 Godtube is so strange to me. When I've been on the website I would pick a random video to watch and I'm always disappointed. I find none of them helpful at all and. I find a LOT of the evolution videos insanely ignorant of evolution. If you're against something it is a good idea to know what that something is before you make a video about it. Otherwise, your just proclaiming your ignorance.I find a ton of prayers for some reason. I don't know why broadcasting prayers helps at all. I thought praying was between the person that is doing the praying and god. Apparently posting them on the internet helps because between surfing the vast amount of bestiality porn, god decides to look through a couple of the prayers. Yeah, yeah, that was probably out of line but oh well. Another thing that I noticed in several atheist videos is an incredible depiction of what I'm supposed to be. I don't choose to be an atheist. I don't believe every single god, spiritual being and deity as you, exc... More About: Godtube

Hopefully I will get better but I think it's a good start. And in case you're wondering, I did make the banner at the top of the page. I hope I can make some cool snazzy images later on. I've been really tied up with work and school. For this post I'm going to post a project that I did for my computer science class last year. You're Using Open Source RIGHT NOW!
2008-02-16 03:20:00 Open source is a very interesting philosophy that has grown vastly in the tech industry. The reason I say tech instead of computer industry is because open source projects have long since grown to many of your tech gadgets including your cell phones, GPS devices, hand held gaming devices, traffic lights, multimedia centers and, of course, computers. Source Forge is an open source development website that supports over 100,000 projects. Did I mention that open source software is completely free? You use open source software ALL THE TIME whether you know it or not. If you're browsing the web using firefox, visiting Google, Yahoo, or any website that uses mySQL, PHP, PostgreSQL, YUI, or Java. Most of the games on your cell phone run in Java and an increasing amount of phones are coming out running on linux. Linux, by the way is an open source operation system that has been used on servers for years but is now coming to mature as a desktop operating system. Some popular distributions ar... Happy Fake Holiday!
2008-02-14 17:34:00 Well, it's that time of the year. It's time to buy your special someone a box of chocolate, flowers and maybe some flowers, take her out on a nice evening at a fancy restaurant and then hope you get lucky later in the night. Sounds fun, right? Well, it would be if this whole scenario wasn't SET UP for you on a predetermined date. The amount of breakups on or around valentines day is staggering. It's funny that this "day of love" ends up being the "day that I'll never want to see you again." More About: Holiday , Happy , Fake

My Atheism, Agnosticism and Skeptisism
2008-02-10 21:46:00 I grew up being raised as a methodist but now consider myself a Skeptical Agnostic Atheist. If you think these terms cannot co-exist together, read on, because I think you may have a misunderstanding of the two terms.I consider myself an Atheist because I do not believe there is a god. That does NOT mean the same thing as "I believe there is not a god." I have tried to believe there was a god and that he created all of what we see either directly or indirectly but there is no proof. None. If, at any moment, god presents himself (or herself... or itself?) to me and can provide sufficient proof that he is god, then I will believe. Instantly. The only proof that that I seem to get is the "modern miracle." Not good enough. It's not repeatable. It's, by definition, is not testable and there's no way to prove that it is not a fluke.Agnosticism is NOT necessarily about the belief in a god. It's the philosophical view about the truth value of a claim. They argue that absolute knowledge ... More About: Atheism

Google Responds to Microsoft-Yahoo Proposal
2008-02-04 17:44:00 The proposition that Microsoft revealed to Yahoo the other day has already made the waves across the blogosphere and made its rounds in the old media but yesterday. Google finally revealed its opinion on the proposal in its Official Blog. Obviously, Google doesn't like the deal and fears that Microsoft's monopoly mind-set and 'drug dealer' business plan will taint the web-based market and destroy the freedom that Yahoo and Google was able to thrive in.Posted by David Drummond, Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and Chief Legal OfficerThe openness of the Internet is what made Google -- and Yahoo! -- possible. A good idea that users find useful spreads quickly. Businesses can be created around the idea. Users benefit from constant innovation. It's what makes the Internet such an exciting place. So Microsoft's hostile bid for Yahoo! raises troubling questions. This is about more than simply a financial transaction, one company taking over another. It's about preserving... More About: Proposal
10 Things Most People Don't Know About Film Projectors
2008-02-04 05:21:00 I am a projectionist at a local 30-plex AMC theater and I think I have more of an insight to the film world than most... So here's 10 Things Most People Don't Know About Film Projectors .1. Most theaters still use 35mm film. Yes, film.2. Projectionists do not have enough time to just sit around and watch movies all day.3. 35mm projectors (and all other film projectors) have to be manually threaded before every start.4. I think the movie industry will not have a need in theaters in 10 years. There are many reasons for this, but I think the biggest is that the need for theaters is dissipating.5. The 'cigarette burn' circle that appears on the top right of the screen every 20 or so minutes is supposed to be there. It's a reel change and was used to make a reel change with a second projector. This, however, isn't used very much anymore because there are better ways to do this without having to have a projectionist there for every reel.6. Most theaters use two separate projectors fo...
What I thought about Strange Wilderness
2008-02-03 18:45:00 Before I go off on a little rant on how BAD this movie is, I will tell you a little about the plot. A failing nature show, Strange Wilderness is passed to the owner's son when the owner died. The son is a failure and a waste of a life that tried to save the show. So basically they go on a hunt to find big foot in Ecuador.Enough talking about the plot... Now I'm going to say how bad this movie is. Unless you are remarkably high, then this movie won't entertain you. It looks like this movie looks like it could be done with the same quality by anyone who has a couple days to spare. Yes, I think this movie could be made in a couple days and a $200 budget. Let me save you $12 and tell you not to go to this movie unless you need an hour or so of sleep in a dark theater.THIS MOVIE FAILS More About: Thought , Strange Wilderness
What I thought about The Eye
2008-02-03 18:09:00 This weekend I went to go see 'The Eye' staring Jessica Alba and Alessandro Nivola. This movie is actually a remake of a Hong Kong movie which supplements the remakes of Japanese movies flooding the American movie market. Sydney Wells, a blind violinist gets a cornea transplant so she can see for the first time. The operation was successful and she can finally see for the first time. Very soon after her transplant and after she started to see a little more than blurs, she starts to see strange figures. Her doctor, Dr. Paul Faulkner, is that she is having trouble adjusting to seeing for the first time and her mind is simulating things she doesn't understand as these black, haunting figures. What I Thought Jessica Alba is certainly what would sell this movie. The storyline is flaky and (I think) incredibly unbelievable. It's another movie where "science can't explain this therefore, it must be magic, witches and the supernatural. It was very revealing to me that whenever Jessica A...

Microsoft Tries To Eat Yahoo! Pacman-style
2008-02-01 16:54:00 If you've been paying attention the past year to Yahoo , you'll know that they're in trouble. You should have heard about the mass layoffs that Yahoo had to do when there profits were fledging. So as Yahoo's stock keeps plummeting an offer was proposed by Microsoft to buy out Yahoo for $44.6 billion. According to some sources, Yahoo still plans on trying to revive the company but many fear that Yahoo's plan on what to do after the downsizing might be non-existent.The fact that Yahoo was in direct competition with Google, this news is an interesting turn of events that will shift even more focus to the competition between Google and Microsoft. This is something that will be interesting to watch in the years to come.More links:http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,1 42089-pg,1/article.htmlhttp://ap.google.c om/article/ALeqM5ja33t4S3rmzbBWHWGQYfZxBO ILCgD8UB7L1G1http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/b usiness/7222114.stm#graphichttp://slashdo t.org/article.pl?sid=08/02/01/1353211 More About: Pacman , Style , Yahoo!

My Thoughts about the Macbook Air.
2008-02-01 15:12:00 Apple semi-recently announced the Macbook Air. This new laptop features a LED-backlit 13.3-inch display, a full sized keyboard, and can fit inside a manila envelope. Why the hell you want something that small is beyond me, be let's keep going along with it... The size was about to be scaled down because the hard drive is actually the same 1.8-inch 80GB drive that the iPod classic uses! Now, for the things I don't like about this laptop. My biggest concern about the success of this laptop is just that. I do not think this thing will sell very well. Why? There's no real point to having it. Yes, it's small. Yes, it's really small. But that's the best quality it has. Other than that, there is NO reason to buy this laptop. It has built in wifi. It has a built in webcam. That's all pretty cool... but it's what it doesn't have that bothers me. For example, if I didn't have wireless access and wanted to use the internet through an ethernet connection I CAN'T. This thing doesn't h... More About: My Thoughts , Thoughts , Macbook Air
The Pirate Bay Vs. Swedish Government
2008-01-31 21:25:00 The time has finally come. The Swedish government is finally acting against the creators of the amazingly awesome bittorrent website thepiratebay.org! The Pirate Bay is being charged with aiding or facilitating copyright infringement even though their website does not physically transmit any illegal content. Despite this major lawsuit that they have to undergo, The Pirate Bay says the website will stay afloat even if they lose the trail. So as they've done in the past, they are staying strong against anyone who tries to oppose them. It's amazing they've gone on for so long without being prosecuted. From The Pirate Bay blog:We've got reasons to celebrate. Millions of them! This week we've hit some magic numbers. We're tracking over 1 million torrents. We have had over 10 million simultaneous peers on the trackers. We're at 2.5 million registered users (and they are active as well). And this is blog post 100!
