2008-01-29 20:16:00
"Three cheers for Olly Mears. The flock lucky enough to have him as their shepherd will be blessed indeed." is the concluding comment of Amanda Lynch's article on Trinity college's preaching teams in The Times, January 26, 2008. The whole team gets a mention, as does the Rev Symmons. To read the whole article go to this link.

Archbishop delivers ‘Holy Grail’ to Pope
2008-01-29 19:48:00
This was the headline from the Yorkpress news today. I was very excited - after all it would be remarkable if, after Indiana Jones et al couldn't find it, the grail had been in York all this time and the Arch- Bishop had decided to hand it over to Rome for verification. Unfortunately it turns out that this holy grail is of the beer variety, brewed in Yorkshire at the Black Sheep brewery. What a laugh the Bishops must have had as the cracked open the crate. The mental image of the moment is forming in my mind as I write.

Eco group - report back
2008-01-25 15:39:00
As you may know Trinity students and staff have formed an eco-group to discuss ecological matters and how we might live more gently here at college. The purpose of the group is to spend prayerful time talking about what we already do and what we might do to be greener. The point of this is to be more intentional about the way we live, to encourage the community to consider living more consciously – “of our environment, of our fellow global citizens, of our own health, of our presence on this good earth – we might start to become a real force for good.” (see living Generously) The group is open to everyone, it will meet every two or three weeks, meetings will be approx 1hr and you don’t have to be a hippie to attend. Present at the first meeting was John Bimson, Emma Bray, Ian Cook, Kenneth Cross, Ellen LoudonWe had apologies from: David Carrington and Catherine Gillham. A number of associated interested parties are also involved in the group: Adrian McConnaughie, Fran Bre...

new year - slow start
2008-01-14 19:55:00
Sorry to be so slow about posting anything useful, funny or dumb. Blogging is an art and as such needs time to ferment and distill. So, here goes...a sparkling wine full of useful tit-bits (steady Geoff!).If you are an Anglican blogger you may be interested in joining this little on-line group which has been set up by Dave Walker (AKA the Cartoon Church). Anglican-bloggers hopes to draw together some disparate blogging addicts into a tidy pile. I joined and so far nothing terrible has happened to me...Those of you Anglicans who are busy emerging might also like to join Anglimergent (yes it's really true a group is there for you). I was in a joining mood so joined that one too. Again nothing bad has happened and I don't feel I have compromised by joining both Christian blogging networks at the same time. Yet.If anyone has any useful websites they would like to recommend do pass on info and any details and I will post them up here. Happy new year!

As promised in the latest issue of Wholly Trinity , there will be a small edible prize awarded for the best Trinity College-related limerick received in the comments to this post. When I say 'best', I mean the one that the Editors think is best. Who knows?Anyway, do get thinking. The closing date will probably be before the end of term, but I'll update this post when I decide.

Well, they are all available for you to look at on Mark Loudon's Picassa page. Take a look and see what you think - please let us know via the comments or email. Please don't take copies without asking Mark first (he'll not say no but he likes to be kept in the loop).

2007-11-13 11:09:00
Lucy Wright has written a great review of Sine ad O’Connor 's album Theo logy . Lucy raises some interesting questions about how we respond to popular music and the way it expresses gospel values. Well worth a read.
something for the ladies
2007-11-10 21:28:00
Next week sees the arrival of the first clerical wear company wanting to take leavers orders ready for ordination in July 2008. Some of ladies are struggling with the latest clerical fashions and are looking for something a bit more contemporary. Maggie Dawn was having a similar crisis this week and suggested a the work of Swedish woman Maria Sjodin AKA the Casual Priest. It is Genius! Watch out J&M new ideas for clerical shirts are on the way...

BBC Bristol - Thought for the Day
2007-10-18 18:07:00
BBC Bristol 's Thought For The Day slot is every weekday morning at 7.40am. A more substantial religious programme is Sunday Starts, every Sunday morning between 6.00 and 10.00am.BBC Radio Bristol is looking for some new people to contribute to its Thought For The Day slot at the aforementioned time. They need people with something to say from all faiths and none. As it says on the tin, talk needs to be thought provoking (1.5 minutes or 270 words) and contributors need to be confident communicators. This is a gig for love, not money - as they simply give a £5 allowance towards petrol. However, if you're bright, want to challenge people before they start their working day and love the idea of using radio, then do get in touch. BBC Radio are particularly interested to hear from any women who like the idea. The vital numbers are: Julia Causton / Robin Markwell 0117-974-1111 or email: julia.causton@bbc.co.uk. Alternatively contact - Tim Pemberton 0117-974-7733 or email: tim.pemb...

If you don't know who to give your harvest offering to this year can I suggest Farm Africa. They work in partnership with marginal farmers and herders, helping them to manage their natural resources more effectively and build sustainable livelihoods on their land.Ellen Loudon
