NEW:CONTEMPLATIONS The Fall © Kees Voorhoeve Is the fallen state of Adam a necessary step in creation or was it not intended? Some qabalists say the Fall was really a cosmological disaster. It was difficult for Adam to guard the equilibrium in Paradise. The temptation of the Snake or Satan, as the adversary of God, immanent present in order to balance the cosmos, seduced Adam to eat the forbidden fruit. Unfortunately Adam made a wrong choice. The state of separation became an objective reality. The vision of duality blinded us. Adam, the universal mediator, both man and woman, brought about a bad reversal. The balance was broken. Adam’s choice to eat from the forbidden fruit was a turning away from God, creating an unwanted suction of materialistic and evil forces. Others say that this Fall was planned. Somehow Adam was in paradise not a whole being. Adam was not in contact with suffering. Because of the Fall, mankind learned about the workings of the dark side. It gave a longing...

NEW:BOOK REFLECTION© Kees VoorhoeveGuénonian Esoterism and Christian Mystery / Jean BorellaI am reading Guénonian Esoterism and Christian Mystery by Jean Borella and it is very inspiring but also intriguing. Borella claims that there is no esoteric Christianity. He says that there is no sharp distinction between exoteric and esoteric. Don’t identify exoterism with the visible form of for example the Catholic Church. Esoteric is defined only with respect to the exoteric to surpass it. The divine revelatum is not esoteric or exoteric in itself. Esoterism is a cultural reality what philosophy calls an accidental being. Esoterism is a human artifarct. The form of esoterism is different from the essence and the depths of the revelation. There is no esoterism as such.It is very inspiring to think about what Borella is saying. Many questions arose. What is esoterism then in its essence? Is there an ideal esoterism when the ego illusions are transformed? Did Guenon teach the doctrine o...

NEW:CONTEMPLATIONS The Magic ian© Kees VoorhoeveIn meditating on the Magician , relating to Meditation on the Tarot, I found some principles that are for me very profound and helped me to understand a little bit more why this Magician is the key to all other Arcana (although it stays a dazzling mystery). The Magician is a mediator between heaven and earth, only possible after a long-term process of contemplation. We have to surrender to God, so the Divine Force can work through our vessel; we become a Magician, with nothing of ourselves only helping to change and heel the world through Love and Wisdom.I see contemplation as a transforming process of letting go of attachments. It is purification of our being and breaking down of the false self. In this process of kenosis we become empty. The inner consciousness flies open, the soul is born. It is Gelassenheit. Perhaps this is in correspondence with 'Concentration without effort' where the author Valentin Tomberg in his book 'Meditat...

Book Reflection s © Kees VoorhoeveThe Cent er of the Sunlit Sky‘The Center of the Sunlit Sky’ by Karl Brunnhölzl is a bold and extensiveness study of Madhyamaka in the Kagyu Tradition. He discusses the difference between Svatantrika and Prasangika in relation to Tsongkapa and Mikyo Dorje and gives profound interpretations on emptiness and the two reality’s.In some Buddhist groups logic is underestimated or even disliked, but logic is necessary in order to realise our true nature. We first have to analyse the mind structure before we can go beyond it and experience the non-conceptual direct nature of the Universal Flux of Being. In the introduction Karl Brunnhölzl writes:A typical Madhyamaka answer to the question “What is Madhyamaka?” would state what it is not: It is not a philosophy, not a religion, not a doctrine, not a historical school of thought, not a belief system, not a linguistic theory or analysis, not a psychotherapy, not agnosticism, not nihilism, not existent...

CONTEMPLATIONS On Divine Sophia © Kees Voorhoeve ...

CONTEMPLATIONSOn Divine Sophia © Kees Voorhoeve I would like to share my thoughts about the Divine Sophia. I was especially interested in the philosophical ideas of Arthur Versluis. In his Wisdom’s Book: The Sophia Anthology and Wisdom’s Children: A Christian Esoteric Tradition, he writes beautifully about Sophianic spirituality.Versluis is saying that Adam lived in Paradise in harmony with Sophia or Wisdom, as an androgyn being. But after the fall Adam separated from Sophia and the difference between man and women arose. Out of this division emerges a dualistic structure that became a dominant perspective where man is encountered with suffering and evil. The mystical journey is a ‘virginal’ spiritual practice, to be receptive and connective again to the Divine Sophia, and to become transparent to the dualistic fixations that were born after eating of the Tree of Good and Evil. The goal of this journey is the restoration of paradise and the regeneration of our original potent...

Book Reflection s © Kees VoorhoevePrayer Fashions Man Frithjof Schuon on the Spiritual Life‘Prayer Fashions Man’ by Frithjof Schuon is a very inspiring book. On every page there are sayings and texts by Frithjof Schuon that are clarifying and puzzling at the same time. It is deepening my way of prayer and contemplation.I was especially interested in chapter 3, ‘Prayer and the integration of the psychic elements’. Here Frithjof Schuon is talking about the anthropomorphic relation in prayer. We are directing ourselves to God in a personified way, there is a natural sentimentality. Prayer is being in the existence of the human ‘I’. But in striving to God there can be an immediate experience beyond ego. The intellect, as a faculty of the soul, is awakened but although it is beyond ego, the psychic faculties of sentiment and reason are not abandoned. Frithjof Schuon is saying:'To be more precise, we may add that the man who through ignorance or theoretical preconceptions negl...
