Winds of change
2006-12-02 16:09:15
I think that it's time to change the look and feel of my blog, so I've installed a new Nucleus skin and in the coming days I'm going to be customizing it. Anything that looks weird or doesn't work should be fixed soon.

Our boys
2006-12-02 16:09:15
I don't post too many pictures here because I don't yet have a digital camera, although I'm hoping this will be remedied soon. :-) But a friend of mine just sent me some pictures of my dogs (ok, Tina - our dogs), and I thought I'd share. This is Licorice. He loves to eat, sleep, and chase any animals he can find (deer, turkeys, groundhogs, squirrels, etc.) He also enjoys playing the role of guard dog, and he takes it way too seriously (he doesn't bite, but he barks like crazy). In his spare time, he likes to fart and then look at his butt in bewilderment. This is Shadow. He is an eating and pooping machine (he takes after his daddy), and I call him Shadow the Destroyer for reasons that I probably don't need to explain. He has a goofy-looking smile that comes out when he's happy, and he licks anything and everything. His hobbies include: eating weird bugs (especially if they're flying and he has to jump and gulp them right out of the air) and incessantly bringing you his ...

It's ok to hate the word 'hermeneutics'
2006-12-02 16:09:15
I have some friends who absolutely hate the word 'hermeneutics'. Whenever I say it they make vomiting faces or noises. Afterward they look at me as if worried that they have hurt my feelings, which makes me laugh because it doesn't bother me a bit. Well, Dana and Becca, this post is dedicated to you! :-) I'd bet that many of you either share this feeling with my friends or know someone who does. To be honest, sometimes even I share this sentiment. Here's what I think causes it: even though we accept on a surface level the implicit message of our evangelical culture that we should all strive to be a Dr. D. James Kennedy or a Josh McDowell, people who know what they believe and can tell you exactly why they believe it (at least that's the image), deep down we resent being forced into this mold and made to feel inferior when we don't quite fit it. We sense that there is nothing wrong with holding a belief and not being able to defend it (especially if we are content to keep our...

DVD's, frisbees, v-necks and more
2006-12-02 16:09:15
Just some stuff about me. My birthday is coming up, and Tina bought me three seasons of Gilmore Girls on DVD. Yes, I'm secure enough in my manhood to admit that I am crazy about Gilmore Girls. I love Lorelai and Rory's relationship, and the other characters are great too. The dialog is so fast and witty, and the humor is great. So now instead of just having every season of Friends we will also have every season of this. We may eventually get Lost and Battlestar Galactica (our two favorite shows to watch as they air), but I'm not sure that those are shows that I'd be able to enjoy over and over again. I love playing Ultimate Frisbee . A group of friends and I play every Saturday for several hours, and I'm always sore for days afterward. It's totally worth it though, for both the fun and the exercise. Every week I get a little bit faster and a little more stamina. Today I learned something about myself... I have two modes: uber-competitive and "just in it for the fellowship". I...
