Share Your Book Knowledge
2007-05-17 15:14:00 I am currently trying my hand at writing a fictional book. I have looked a little around on the internet to see what is available, but I am hoping someone has some good insight they don?t mind sharing.I have spoken to two people that have used www.lulu.com, a self publishing company, and I have been reading through their Faq pages. It looks pretty good. I have purchased one book both to read and to also check out the quality, which appears to be just as nice as other books I have purchased in stores. They offer the sale of your book for 20% of your profit, the PDF download of your book from their website for free (which you can charge for), and you can purchase an ISBN for your book to have it listed at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and some other books stores.Does anyone know of other self publishing companies or know of any pros or cons of going this route? It just seems like finding a publishing company to publish your work is most likely a little more difficult than the self publishin... Hate Speech For Hate Speech : Pleasure In Death
2007-05-16 16:06:00 As you may already know Jerry Falwell fell asleep for the last time Wednesday May 15, 2007.I am honestly not sure what all of Falwell?s personal convictions and teachings were. I am not a Falwell-ite or a Falwell follower so I really don?t know if I personally agree or disagree with all that he stood for and voiced. With that said, I find it interesting that those who claim he was full of ?hate speech? have such ?hate speech? against him. I think it is somewhat interesting for one to condemn a person of ?hate speech? by using ?hate speech?. [see here]What does this say about individual character? Almost like kids ? ?They did it first!?Really I don?t want to focus on the bashing of the ?friendly? non-theists here, but us Christians. How do we handle this when we are placed in the same condition? When the Taliban strikes with hate do we desire justice or do we spue speech like ?Just kill them all? meaning all Muslims? I?ve heard a preacher say from the pulpit that we should kill all the... More About: Devotional , Hate , Death , Sure , Pleasure
Posing Questions From An Atheist
2007-05-15 22:08:00 From a comment here, from a post here, come these questions at their request here:My thoughts are in green. What is the "something" of a god? The God said I AM THAT I AM and scripture says He is a Spirit. What is the energy that god or gods used to create "something"? The God used His voice to speak things into existence. Is matter part of a god? Is energy? If so, what kind? Both matter and energy are creations of The God, for by him all things consist. To repeat, what is the nature of the "something" that supposedly created another "something"? The God?s nature is holy.Logic only applies to the real world and a certain quality that has developed in the evolution to human beings. To propose a non-naturalistic cause takes you outside of the system. You are correct. The God is outside of the natural system He created, He is supernatural.Mitt Romney recently said, ?I?m not exactly sure what is meant by intelligent design,? he said. ?But I believe God is intelligent and I believe he designe... FAITH A Four Letter Word
2007-05-15 15:56:00 Faith:Hebrews 11:1: the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.Encarta.com: belief in, devotion to, or trust in somebody or something, especially without logical proofDictionary.com: confidence or trust in a person or thing, belief that is not based on proofIt appears some believe faith to be a four letter word that they will have no part of. So today, I am questioning faith with the idea of, can anyone actually live life without such? I am not narrowing my idea of faith to only saving faith or even religious faith, but simply faith as it stands in anything.Does every person at least have some type of faith in something or someone, even if they deny such? I believe the answer is yes.Is there not a sense of faith in believing that ones mother and father are actually their biological parents? Unless there is a DNA test that proves undeniable evidence that such are, is it not based on trust in a person without actual proof? One may say that the evidence points t... Lukewarm Spue
2007-05-14 16:18:00 The Scripture: Revelation 3:15-1615 - I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.16 - So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. These verses are concerning the works of ?the church of the Laodiceans?.I have heard two teachings concerning these verses, but both agree that being lukewarm is not where one who claims to be a Christian should find themselves.[1] I have heard it said (summarized to my understanding) to be [hot] is to be on fire for God with a witnessing testimony, to be [cold] is to basically act as a lost person with no testimony, and to be [lukewarm] is to be wishy-washy with a hypocrite testimony that neither helps other Christians nor leads the lost world to Christ. The objection (I have heard) to this is that why would God want a Christian to be cold, as the phrase ?I would thou wert cold or hot? is used in verse 15.[2] I have heard it said (summarized to my understanding) to... Graduation to Deviation
2007-05-11 16:13:00 The school year is almost over and thousands of young adults will be graduating high school across the United States. Many will go to college, numerous to the military, others to jobs, and some haven?t really decided what to do yet.As a child grows the parents have/had the responsibility to instruct, discipline, and love that child to the best of their ability. Some are/were able to do a better job than others do to different circumstances, but all should be/have focused on preparing their child to face the trials, pitfalls, and enjoyments of adult life.My fear is the deviation of the young adults from the wise instruction of the parents as they become ?free? to do as they please as adults. I realize that everything one may get from their parents is not correct, but hopefully the good out ways the bad by this time. Neither the parents nor the young are perfect, but the greater responsibility lies on the parents from God Himself.I fear that while we as Christian parents make sure our... Christians vs. Atheists ? Does God Exist ? Debate
2007-05-08 16:53:00 Apparently on May 5, 2007 at debate between Christians Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron and Atheist s Brian Sapient and "Kelly" (who apparently did not want to give her real name) took place at Calvary Baptist Church in New York City. The debate is to air on ABC News Now tomorrow afternoon and Nightline tomorrow night on Wednesday, May 9, 2007.Informing articles:http://abcnews.go.com/Nightline/ story?id=3130360&page=1http://www.chr istianworldviewnetwork.com/article.php/19 72/Patrick_BurwellI haven?t seen the debate, but according to the link above, ?Kelly? had a ?wardrobe malfunction? that was most inappropriate for such a place (church) and situation (intellectual debate).Interestingly it seems that this Brian Sapient and ?Kelly? are a part of the following:?The Rational Response Squad challenges people to take the Blasphemy Challenge in which they make videos of themselves denouncing or blaspheming the Holy Spirit, and then post them on YouTube.?In my opinion, it is one thing to claim... What Heaven Is That : Genesis 1:1
2007-05-08 15:00:00 I was recently in a discussion, actually a different topic and it moved to a discussion about Gene sis 1 and heaven. I mentioned I believe Genesis 1:1 is talking about the creation of heaven where God is and earth where we are.I was told ?You really need to find a good commentary brother. You have apassion for God, but you need some help in how to interpret the Bible?, which is fine, but the majority of things I believe have come from books, preachers, and/or teachers of the Baptist type. So, there is probably only a small portion of ideas I may hold that originated out of thin air (for a better quote) from reading the Bible without any previous knowledge of such from another person.I have been told that ?the heaven? in verse 1 is ?the deep dark expanse of outer space...where the stars, the moon, the planets, the solar systems, etc., are located?. Also that ?the firmament? of day 2 ?was the area which held the water described on day 2?.I was also given this:Strong's,Extended surface... More About: Heaven , Controversial , That

Thoughts Opposing Homosexuality = Hate Crime?
2007-05-04 19:05:00 In a recent article at BPNews.net, here, the House just passed a law, by a vote of 237-180, for the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crime s Prevention Act. It appears that the Senate believes it will pass when brought to them, but Bush has the power to veto.Interesting:Current hate crimes law protects traits such as race, religion and national origin, but the bill's opponents say the new legislation would grant protection based on lifestyle. They also say it would move federal law toward punishing thoughts and beliefs, since the motivation of a person charged with a hate crime would have to be evaluated. In addition, some critics warn it eventually could result in suppression of speech that describes homosexual behavior as sinful. Two concerns I have:1] ?protection based on lifestyle? If indeed protection is granted on the basis of lifestyle, where would it stop? Would there then be protection for bestiality also in the near future? Are we as Americans really ready to protect every lifesty... More About: Thoughts , Homosexuality , Controversial
Does Pro-Life = Christianity
2007-05-04 15:49:00 Over at my neighborhood atheist blog vjack posted a topic entitled: Christian Terrorism: Alive and Well. The post is from an article, here, which speaks of a bomb found outside an abortion clinic in Austin. The bomb was found and disarmed and no one was hurt, but the claim from the blog is that this is Christian Terrorism because it was at an abortion (i.e. pro-choice) establishment.A later posted article, here, by a commenter gives the name of the person and where they are from:Paul Ross Evans, 27, of Austin is charged with three federal crimes that accuse him of using weapons of mass destruction, attempting to damage a building used in interstate commerce and attempting to damage a facility because it provides reproductive health services. In 2003, Evans was sentenced to 15 years in prison for an aggravated robbery at a Lufkin Whataburger. To me it looks like this guy has more issues than claiming to be a pro-life Christian being called to terrorize abortion clinics with the use of b... Wedding Crashers
2007-05-03 16:00:00 I recently saw a show on television called The Wedding Crash ers. No, I?m not talking about the movie, which I did not see, but a show with real weddings and real brides and grooms which ask these people to really crash their weddings so they will be remembered. This post will mostly be for a stimulus of some verses in Scripture I find most interesting.Matthew 22:9-14 9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. 10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. 11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of t... 2007-05-02 17:05:00 Vaticanus:Believed to have been written in the 4th century, it appeared in the Vatican Library in its earliest catalog of 1475.Sinaiticus:Believed to have been written in the 4th century, it was found (shown to) by Constantin von Tischendorf the Monastery of Saint Catherine, at the foot of Mount Sinai in Egypt, in 1859.Both of these Codexes are part of the Alexandrian text-type family, also called Neutral or Egyptian. Westcott and Hort used this family and relied heavily on Vaticanus and Sinaiticus for their 1881 The New Testament in the Original Greek. Before Karl Lachmann first in 1850, and Westcott and Hort?s Greek, the Byzantine text-type was used, as through the Reformation with Tyndale and the Bibles which followed.Interestingly virtually all modern translations, since the Kings James Bible, have come from the Alexandrian text-type family. Three Cheers for William Tyndale
2007-05-01 16:48:00 Just a little history, for I really don?t know much at all. Just ask anyone that knows me.Raise your hand if you have heard the name Will iam Tyndale? Well, if you use a Bible, which I hope you do, you should know the name.Tyndale is known for his translation of the Bible which was the first in English translation from the Hebrew and Greek Texts. John Wycliffe?s ?morning star of the Reformation? translation was from the Latin Vulgate in the 1380s.Tyndale?s New Testament from the Greek was printed in 1526 and fourteen of the Old Testament books were translated from Hebrew into English by the 1530?s; which assumingly made him the first to translate Hebrew into English.Myles Coverdale, a close friend of Tyndale, translates the rest of the Old Testament Tyndale was unable to complete, relying mostly on Tyndale?s earlier drafts, and publishes the first complete English Bible, the Coverdale Bible, in 1535. I Used To Be a Christian, I Promise
2007-04-30 15:00:00 On an atheist blog (yeah, I?ve been visiting one) I posted this comment which many may disagree with, so I decided to post my comments here and hopefully some will pay a visit to explain why they believe I am wrong.I said: It appears that some people here claim they used to be Chris tian s.My concern is not with whether or not a person believes they have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior by grace through faith, but the words used to be a Christian. What I mean is that biblically speaking, if a person does repent of sin and by faith accepts Christ as Savior; they are in fact saved at that very moment and become what is known as a Christian. As a Christian we are to following the Word of God (Bible) as our authority, even if it means going against the traditions of men that also claim to be Christians.Baptist, which I am, believe we are saved by faith alone, we are baptized in obedience (without it effecting our salvation one bit), and that tongues are not for today, which most fa... Night Clubs for Kids
2007-04-27 15:40:00 Now here is a novel idea. If it isn?t bad enough that night clubs often (if not always) lead to drinking, fornication, and mostly anti-Biblical forms of activities, why not make it look pleasant, safe, and nothing wrong with it for our children under eight (8)?Here is an article from MSNBC, here, that says:On a recent Saturday afternoon at a grungy, darkened nightclub on Manhattan's Lower East Side, toddlers with fake tattoos jumped up and down on a crowded dance floor. To accommodate the stroller set, nightclubs have to make a few adjustments?like making sure floors are cleared of last night's broken glass. What good can possibility come from such? What is with us parents here in America? We?re not doing this for our kids; we are doing this for ourselves.Capitalizing on Gen-X parents' appetite for all things hip, bands like the Terrible Twos, the Sippy Cups and the Dirty Sock Funtime Band are doing shows that make Mom and Dad feel less like June and Ward Cleaver and more like Gwy... Why Do You Do What You Do?
2007-04-26 15:00:00 Just a few quick questions to ask yourself today:1] Do I read and study my Bible because I need a verse to argue with, or because I love God and want to know more about Him?2] Do I pray always asking for something from God, without ever thanking or praising Him for what He alreay has done?3] Do I go to church because I have to or to be seen by others, or because I enjoy the fellowship with other believers and to hear more of my Savior?4] Do I give to my local church because I feel like I must, or because I love Him whom has given to me so much?5] Do I sing for recognition from the claps of the congregation, or because I love my Savior and desire to praise His name?6] Do I witness for the sake of arguing and condeming others, or for the sake of drawing those to Christ by allowing His light to shine through me?7] Do I call myself a Christian for what God has done for me, or for what I have done for God?8] Do I really know what others think of my Christianity, or am I too busy telling ... Baptists and Child Abuse
2007-04-25 15:00:00 An article by the Christian Post was recently brought to my attention, here. It is quite disturbing to see the actions of proclaimed Baptist s being used to pose questions such as:?It seems to me that a more compelling story would focus on the bridge between faith and abuse. Of course, I am not claiming that faith inevitably leads to abuse. However, there is reason to explore the possibility of some connection.? [Link]Not so much that people are claiming such, but that we as Christians are bringing such a negative thought pattern toward God, our Savior Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the Scriptures. The world has a right to say, ?You are supposed to be a Christian, why are you doing that?? Even Christ said, ?Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.? [Matthew 7:20]We as Christians can?t just sit back and say, ?Well, non Christians do it too.? Dare we make the same claim as them, ?You?re no better than I am.? Indeed we are not. Do we as Christians not have the Father, Christ, an... More About: Abuse , Children , Babies , Controversial
VTech Got What They Deserved?
2007-04-24 15:00:00 In an article reference at an atheist blog, here, speaks of a man (I refuse to call pastor) named Fred Phelps. Granted, I have never heard of this Phelps, but if half of what this article says about his ?group? is correct he should remove the name Baptist from his ?church? name. I don?t think he could even be considered an Independent Baptist.Apparently this guy planned to protest the funerals of the teachers and students that were slain by the killer. Christ may have said, ?Let the dead bury their dead? [Luke 9:60], but the context was calling someone to duty whom was looking for a way to keep from service to God. I don?t remember him commissioning Christians (his people) to protest and hold uprisings at funerals.Assumingly they have been offered more air time to reframe from actually visiting the funerals themselves, see here, by Mike Gallagher. The articles claims, an apparently so by this Phelps? website name is http://www.godhatesfags.com/, that:Fred Phelps, believes the United ... Prayer In School
2007-04-23 15:00:00 In the wake of the Virginia Tech incident and for years hearing the claim that by taking prayer out of school we have taken God out of school, I would like to ponder this topic today.Has taken prayer out of school caused such incidents as that at Virginia Tech and the lack of morality we see across America today?Honestly, I am not convinced of such. We have Christian schools and colleges that have prayer, preaching, Bible classes, teaching, and studying and ashamedly find that we have most things in common with public schools and colleges that do not have prayer and Bible in them. For one, we should not expect the school system to be the ones to teach our children how to pray or to teach them the importance of prayer. According to scripture, this is the responsibility first to the parent [Deuteronomy 6:7; Deuteronomy 11:19], second to the church [Ephesians 4:11-12].Although a person may be told that they cannot pray out loud where the entire school must pause for a moment of silence,... Hypocrite
2007-04-20 16:30:00 hyp·o·crite - a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, esp. a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.I find it interesting that the definition noted above uses the words ?pretends to have? then at the end adds ?esp. a person whose actions belie (contradict) stated beliefs?.Hypocrite seems to be an easy name to sling at someone when they fall short of another?s expectations. The non-religious may throw it at the religious and the religious has no problem throwing it at the religious also.In my opinion I find it hard to consider falling short of one?s expectations to be the same as pretending. To fall short means: to fail to reach a particular standard. To pretend means: to appear falsely, as to deceive.I ponder is there then any leeway or margin of error between outright pretending and simply falling short of expectation?A Christian knows they are not perfect ? well, at least should know that ? sin... Virginia Tech (2007) Could Have Been You or Me
2007-04-19 15:00:00 Surely if you are reading this you have heard of the Virgin ia Tech incident. I personally cannot imagine how the families of those affected are coping with such a loss or near loss. There are those that lost spouses, parents, children, siblings, friends, classmates, and teachers. Not being personally connected to anyone of the incident, I know it is not the same for me as it would be for one that it has personally touched. I pray that God will give comfort and lives will be moved to trust in Him during this time. What seems to linger in my thoughts is the fact that these people were unaware. They were living life as if they had many years to go, as they should have. But in a moment, the twinkling of an eye, everything changed. Some went out into eternity while others will have this image live in them for as long as they live.Do we ever think that today could be the day with meet Christ? Frustrated
2007-04-18 15:00:00 Have you ever been frustrated to the point that you have to either walk away or say something you may regret later? No. You just haven?t spoken to enough people yet. HahahaWhat is the best policy when one is talking religion, politics, science, or television and the one just can?t seem to ?make? the other agree or ?see it my way??Maybe we should step back and take a moment to relax. Sometimes I think we get into discussions and all we really hear is ourselves. Instead of listening to the other side so we can intelligently agree or disagree, we often spend the time they are talking merely thinking of a ?good? reply to ?slam? them with. What that leaves us with is no discussion ?between? each other, but ?at? each other; with both sides only hearing, ?Blah, blah, blah?.Proverbs 18:13 says, ?He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.?So next time, why don?t we, including me, listen first, then agree or disagree intelligently. Expect the Expected
2007-04-17 15:00:00 Most have likely heard the phrase, ?Expect the unexpected?, but I am asking you to Expect the Expected. You may think, ?That makes no sense?, but please let me explain. When a lost person sees a child of God, or one whom claims as such, they most often expect that person to be different. Some often expect one to be perfect, without sin. Usually this leaves the unregenerate with a bad taste in their mouth concerning Christianity and hence the throwing around the name, ?Hypocrite?. Is it self-righteousness or misunderstanding, it may vary, but although they may admit that they are not without error, they find it easy when a saved person stumbles to say, ?I expected more from you.? Although most seem ready to pounce upon the regenerate who sins, especially openly, there does remain those which are more familiar with the closet Christian (which neither act or speak as a Christian) whom they very much expect to be no different than themselves. On the opposite end, I feel that we as Christi...

Do All Babies Go Heaven? If So, Why?
2007-04-13 15:00:00 Sometime back the topic of "all babies going to heaven" came up in a group that I frequently visit. Recently a person present me with the notes they had that one had used to proved that indeed all babies go to heaven because they are innocent. Please feel free to agree or disagree and present your case.As I begin this reply, please keep in mind that I am NOT saying all babies go to hell, some babies go to hell, or no babies go to hell. I do firmly believe ALL must go through Christ, whether baby, child, youth, or adult and therefore it is not simply because they are innocent. Are Babi es safe? Babies can not be saved in the normal senseI really don?t understand the answer here. I am not sure what the ?normal sense? means. 2007-04-12 15:00:00 I recently infrequently started visiting an atheist blog and some time back I spent a couple of weeks conversing back and forth with an atheist. Admittedly I don?t know all the info surrounding atheists, but one thing is for sure, they do not believe in a Creator. The Big Bang seems to be considered the ?beginning? and evolution seems to be the means by which man now exists. But reading this article here got me thinking.According to Wikipedia, the Big Bang ?is the scientific theory that the universe emerged from a tremendously dense and hot state about 13.7 billion years ago.? Although, ?Physicists do not widely agree on what happened before this, although general relativity predicts a gravitational singularity.? The read is interesting and seems to favor a sci-fi movie theme.
