A Lesson Learned At Holy Thursday
2008-03-21 12:38:00 Happy Good Friday, all. I was much too tired to head to the homestead last night after a full day at practicum, so I wandered into the neighbourhood parish instead twelve minutes before Mass was to begin. That was a serious error in judgement.Something I cannot wrap my head around about the neighbourhood parish is how they can completely destroy every extant notion of liturgical propriety, and yet More About: Thursday , Lesson , Holy , Learned
Interesting Commute...
2008-03-20 14:24:00 Apparently it was an interesting commute for drivers and transit riders in the Toronto area today with a major highway closed because of cattle, and a smoke incident on the subway. Incidentally, my traveling companion and I who take the subway to our teaching placement every morning just squeaked through ten minutes before the subway was shut down. Must be our lucky day! Happy Spring!
2008-03-20 11:01:00 I don't know about you, but I'm certainly happy to have a four-day weekend :-) This year I'm going to get to go home for Easter with my family. Given my chaplaincy responsibilities over the past couple of years, and the nature of the work I will be doing in future years, this will be the first and last Easter I will be spending at home with family for quite a while, so it's definitely a cause More About: Spring , Happy
That's Odd...
2008-03-19 21:25:00 We had a kid who was horsing around with some friends get pushed and fall through a window at school today, smashing it and himself. Can you imagine being the parent getting that call at home? "Yes Ma'am, your son fell through a window and the glass shattered everywhere. Yes, he's bleeding from head to toe. Would you like us to call the ambulance or shall you?" More to come...
Update on Discernment
2008-03-19 10:52:00 And an update on my arm first! I went to the Fracture Clinic yesterday where I was reminded that I have a broken elbow, and that I should be wearing a sling. Oops; I took the instructions at the ER two weeks ago to mean that I could wear a sling "for comfort", and when it stops being comfortable to do so, and more comfortable to let my arm loose, I don't need to wear it. Despite that little More About: Update

Not Sure I Really Get The Appeal...
2008-03-15 13:54:00 The body of the mystic monk Padre Pio, one of the Roman Catholic world's most revered saints who died 40 years ago, has been exhumed to be prepared for display to his many devotees. My favourite part of the article: "A Church statement said the body was in 'fair condition,' particularly the hands, which Archbishop Domenico D'Ambrosio, who witnessed the exhumation in the southern Italian town More About: Appeal

So Much For Miracles
2008-03-14 23:22:00 The biblical Israelites may have been high on a hallucinogenic plant when Moses brought the Ten Commandments down from Mount Sinai, according to a new study by an Israeli psychology professor. Writing in the British journal Time and Mind, Benny Shanon of Jerusalem's Hebrew University said two plants in the Sinai desert contain the same psychoactive molecules as those found in plants from which More About: Miracles

That's Going To Be An Interesting Confession
2008-03-13 13:16:00 A Benedictine monk has been caught with around 230 pornographic films in his room in a monastery in western Germany, the local Abendzeitung newspaper reported on Thursday. The discovery was made after the monk was caught trying to steal four gay pornography DVDs from a sex shop in the Bavarian city of Wuerzburg in southern Germany, the paper said. Confession Practicum
2008-03-13 00:24:00 Recently I was honoured to be asked to be a "fake" penitent for a couple of seminarian friends of mine who are practising their skills as confessors prior to their ordinations. I went into Toronto specially this afternoon for the opportunity to fake-confess for them. I had had a scenario in my head, but when I arrived I was told by their instructor it should be anything sexual. Blah. So, I More About: Confession
Death Will Be Punished

Chrism Mass
2008-03-11 14:20:00 I was visiting the Archdiocese of Toronto website and noted that the Chrism Mass is at 11am this year, instead of at 7pm when it has been held in previous years. Mass of Chrism Tuesday March 18, 2008 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Cathedral His Grace, Most Reverend Thomas Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, invites all priests to celebrate with him, the Mass of Chrism on Tuesday March 18, 2008, 11:00
I Can't Make This Stuff Up...
2008-03-11 13:33:00 Hundreds of dogs, many dressed as babies or clowns, were taken to celebrate mass in this Nicaraguan town on Sunday, an annual ritual where the owners pray for their pets to be cured or avoid falling ill. I guess this is sort of the Nicaraguan equivalent to our blessing of the animals on St. Francis of Assisi's feast day? I'm just not sure that I understand the clown thing. Anyone? Interview Prep
2008-01-15 19:54:00 Over the course of my life, I have realized that I do a lot better in high-pressure situations if I have prepared to some extent beforehand. Consequently, with the interview coming up next week, and my gut instincts indicating to me that this is definitely something for which it is worth me trying my best, I have been attempting to do some research into the areas for which the parish is hiring. Prayer Requests
2008-01-15 19:11:00 It seems that my only real friend in all of my Teacher's College classes has gone AWOL. He last was in touch on December 28 when he noted he was back in town and would see me for sure at our first class on January 7 "even if it killed" him. He didn't show. Ecumenical Question
2008-01-14 23:43:00 Today on a retreat I attended, we opened our day with a celebration of the Eucharist in the Anglican tradition. Now, obviously, I wasn't about to receive communion, though we were warmly invited to do so (because, according to the woman priest, "we are all children of One God"), and despite the fact that nearly every single one of my Catholic classmates did so. 2008-01-13 17:05:00 I am SO bored. Oh, I have tons to do, but I just can't get myself in gear and focused to do it. It's actually quite unlike me to be such a procrastinator/out of it/unmotivated. Baptism of the Lord
2008-01-13 15:48:00 The priest at the Mass I attended last night told a story about his first baptism as a priest. He agreed, and Sunday rolled around. The baby being baptized was particularly uncooperative, and the senior More About: Lord , Baptism , The Lord

Sunday Mass Report

Premonition?
More articles from this author:2008-01-12 16:02:00 I had a meeting with someone about my resume and cover letter yesterday. About halfway during the interview she claimed to have a 'premonition' in which she saw me as a future principal of a high school. I wasn't sure whether to be pleased, to laugh or to be very afraid... On second thought, while she was predicting my future, I should have got her to tell me the name of my future husband, too!
