2007 Year In Review
2007-12-30 13:17:00 This has become an annual tradition at LAMLand, and something I look forward to doing each year as it gives me a chance to reflect on the year gone by, think about my hopes and goals for the coming year, and to review the blog's year to see where the highlights and low points were. So, here we go: 1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before? Tried (and loved!) Mongolian food. Tried ( More About: Review , Year , Year in Review

The Dog Is Coming To Toronto
2007-08-14 18:03:00 I have a weakness I'm embarrassed to talk about. I love Dog The Bounty Hunter. You'd never guess how such a thing happened. In fact, the Dominican priest responsible for this canine affection would never in a million years guess that he was the one who ultimately caused this infatuation. You see, it all started one frosty Tuesday night in January. My head was physically hurting from trying to More About: Toronto , Ming , The D

Catholicism In China
2007-08-14 15:04:00 Here's a fascinating article sent to me by a friend on the situation of Catholicism in China . If Christianity keeps growing at the rate that it is in China today, they can expect to be the second largest Christian nation in a very short time. http://ncrcafe.org/node/1252 All Things Catholic by John L. 2007-08-14 14:51:00 Although there may well be shocks and even upheavals in our lives, the Risen Christ is there. And remember: I am also in the innermost recesses of your radiant hopes.' -- Brother Roger More to come... More About: Thought
Second Encyclical In The Works
2007-08-13 18:47:00 Ready or not, B16's second encyclical was penned while he was on vacation. Its topic will be a modern take on Pope Paul VI’s encyclical Populorum Progressio (On the Development of Peoples), issued 40 years ago. More here, and via Rocco who always has the inside scoop. Thought From Taize
2007-08-13 14:54:00 Not knowing how to make us understand anymore, God came to earth at Christmas as a poor person, through Christ Jesus. If Jesus had not lived among us, God would remain unreachable. Through his birth, and his human life, Jesus made the God of love show through. -- Brother Roger More to come... More About: Thought
Frassati
2007-08-13 14:54:00 A&N had a chuckle when they saw this portrait of a plainsclothed blessed among the depictions of other robed and gowned saints from ages past in their very own parish in Montreal. Frassati is a (nearly) modern day saint who has inspired countless youths in the past century through his acts of charity and kindness to the poor. Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, pray for us. Grand Séminaire de Montréal
2007-08-12 13:40:00 On Wednesday night, Fr. Tom Dowd met us for dinner at an Irish pub and then out for some Ben & Jerry's ice cream. On the way back to the hotel, he took us for a private tour through the Grand Séminaire de Mont réal, located just north of our hotel. Founded and built by the Fathers of the Saint Sulpician Order, who became the seigneurs over Montreal in 1663, this former seminary is a remarkable More About: Mina

Native Quest
2007-08-11 16:53:00 Thirty-one years ago next month, my mother and father were celebrating their first wedding anniversary with a trip to Ottawa. While there, they went up to Nepean Point and as many tourists have done, my father helped my mother to climb up on the lap of the life-size Anishinabe Scout statue who knelt below the monument of Samuel de Champlain (who is famously holding his astrolabe upside down). Day 6 - Heading Home
2007-08-10 13:17:00 We had an awesome day in Montreal yesterday. First thing we headed up to the Oratory, and we happened to get up the stairs (not on our knees, though there is a reserved staircase for that) at 10am, which was when Mass was starting. I looked hesitantly into the chapel and wanted just to turn around, but my father insisted - twice! - that we could attend Mass. Little did he realize it was the More About: Home , Heading

2007-08-10 13:05:00 We are Christ's poor. That is why it is important never to impose ourselves on others, nor try to imprison someone else's conscience. But above all, may our life let the Gospel show through! -- Brother Roger More to come... More About: Thought
Montreal - Day 5
2007-08-09 14:29:00 We had a great 3-hour bus tour upon our arrival to Mont real yesterday afternoon, including a stop at Notre-Dame Basilica. WOW! It is definitely one of the most gorgeous, impressive churches I have ever seen. The evening saw our dinner with Fr. Tom. He was incredibly hospitable, kind and seemed to enjoy the beer I owed him for his assistance with philosophy! After dinner we hit Ben & Jerry's

2007-08-08 13:46:00 We're leaving for Mont real shortly. The beavertail (classic, Jannie!) was AMAZING ... I was good and only had a taste. Day 4 - Montreal
2007-08-07 20:28:00 We had another great day today. We were the first people into the Museum of Civilizations and by far the best exhibit was the one on the history of Canada. Completely amazing! We got a clue to the identity and location of a statue we'd been searching for since arriving here on Sunday night and after lunch at the Museum Cafe, made the jaunt across the river and finally, three days later, found More About: Montreal , Mont
