World Cup U-20
2007-03-04 11:12:00
The draw has come and gone in Toronto yesterday and the groups are now set for July's FIFA World Cup U-20 in Canada. The only outstanding question of extreme importance: When are individual tickets finally going on sale!? And on a secondary note, why isn't Germany in there? More to come...
Visiting a Chinese Market
2007-03-04 02:41:00
I had another adventure in ethnocultural Toronto this evening. A friend and I went up to Markham so I could procure some fish sauce and coconut milk for a recipe I'm making next weekend. Suffice it to say my local grocery store wasn't very good in that department -- well, I suppose it's my fault because I was looking with the milk for the coconut milk and apparently I was way off base. Oh well

GO Transit Trials
2007-03-03 19:41:00
I participated in a trial this afternoon for GO Trans it, a public transit system that covers several parts of Southwestern Ontario. I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed, even though a little research has shown me that this is actually legally required of them through the Ontarians with Disabilities Act to consult with those with disabilities to improve their accessibility. Sacramental Strong-Arming
2006-08-23 22:00:19
I mentioned a few weeks ago that my home parish is going to be offering two species for reception of Communion at all Masses starting in the fall to coincide with their anniversary year. Last night I was "treated" to the first homily I have heard by way of catechesis on reception under both species; apparently there have been others, and will be more over the coming eight weeks leading up to its introduction at the weekend Masses. A 15-minute-long lecture, Father was very much hung up on the "gore" of Communion, the blood and how it would make us "blood brothers and sisters" of Christ by ingesting it. Rather than allowing people to make up their own minds about reception of the Precious Blood, Father prooftexted statements from the Center for Disease Control and the General Instruction of the Roman Missal in order to bolster his position, and concluded by stating that those who do not receive the Precious Blood must have a stronger faith than he, because he "needs it" to feel th...

2006-08-23 22:00:19
A University of Toronto student and math whiz, Robert Barrington Leigh, went missing on August 13 near his home in Edmonton. A website has been launched to aid in his safe return and UofT is offering their support from a distance. I wish I had a better feeling about this one. You can send your tips here: (780) 423-4567 or through the emails on the website if you know anything. More to come...
