What if SETI found ET?
2008-05-14 15:26:00
The question was posed at Uncommon Descent in response to a survey. Personally, I am absolutely convinced that there are no sentient extraterrestrials out there (I’m undecided as to whether or not I think there might be unintelligent life on other planets). I agree with one of the commenters at UD who said, The problem is that ...
Error with Wordpress 2.5 uploader
2008-05-06 12:05:00
When I first upgraded to Wordpress 2.5 I was having problems with the flash uploader. I kept getting an “HTTP Error ,” and Wordpress was telling me to “Try again later.” I searched around the forums and dug through many useless threads until discovering that it could have something to do with mod_security. I then checked ...
Casey?s Critical Thinking has moved!
2008-05-02 05:33:00
Well, I’m now at a new domain. It’s been a long time coming. For the longest time I have wanted to register cct.com, cct.net, cct.info or something like that, but those domains are reserved for at least the next decade or so. I thought about caseyscriticalthinking.com, but that’s too long. So then it occurred to ...

45 Unasked Questions
2008-04-30 14:22:00
Kansas Bob posted 45 unanswered questions yesterday that I found interesting, so I thought I’d do it, too. 1. WHO WERE YOU NAMED AFTER? - A road sign (”Casey County”). 2. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED? - My Taekwondo instructor (Korean) once told me that a man is allowed to cry 3 times in life: ...

Leader says Hamas ?won?t recognise Israel?
2008-04-22 14:13:00
In case anyone actually believed that the Palestinians were interested in peace, here’s the story right from the horse’s mouth: Hamas is ready to accept a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders but “it will not recognise Israel ,” the Islamist movement’s exiled chief Khaled Meshaal told a news conference Monday. “We accept a Palestinian state within the ...

The precious accident
2008-04-12 08:46:00
I was watching a show called “Alien Planet” on the Discovery channel today, and some scientist (I presume an atheist) said, “We have to realize that life is the result of a series of random accidents. Life is precious, so we must do whatever we can to protect it.” He then went into a shpiel ...

The precious accident
2008-04-12 08:46:00
I was watching a show called “Alien Planet” on the Discovery channel today, and some scientist (I presume an atheist) said, “We have to realize that life is the result of a series of random accidents. Life is precious, so we must do whatever we can to protect it.” He then went into a shpiel about how we have to protect the environment. I’m left wondering, however, why? Why, if it is merely an accident, do we have to protect life? The word “precious” presupposes that there is some sentient being that feels that affection or to which the thing described is considered valuable. To whom or what are we duty bound to protect life if there is no God? Ourselves? Well, what if some of us don’t see the need? It makes no sense to me.

Pearl of Wisdom
2008-03-28 09:36:00
A pearl of wisdom from Rush Limbaugh: “John McCain is really depressing conservatives. It was just five years ago that he was toying with leaving our party. In 2004 he toyed with being Kerry’s vice president. We’re so screwed.” That’s exactly how I feel. The Real McCain Record

Constitutional right to life
2008-03-28 09:25:00
Joseph Farah makes a great point: “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States ...

I believe
2008-03-24 01:24:00
The empty tomb is not to be overlooked. It is one of the most (if not the most) important evidences of Jesus’ resurrection. The most convincing evidence to me, however, is the testimony of his disciples. I hope and I pray that my faith is strong enough that I would die before denying that Jesus ...

When is the Sabbath?
2008-03-17 12:13:00
23% (the largest percentage) of those who responded to a poll on WorldNetDaily about which day Christians should regard as the Sabbath said “Sunday.” I was joined by only 7% who said “Any day of one’s own choosing.” Literally speaking, I don’t see how anyone could argue that the Sabbath is any other day than ...

Homeschooling is ?elitist and anti-democratic??
2008-03-17 01:02:00
The recent ruling in California has gotten people talking about homeschooling. I have nothing but respect for parents that homeschool. I will definitely consider it as an option for my own children someday. Some of the stuff coming from the mouths of liberal elitists in the educational establishment is disgusting, particularly a recent editorial in ...

Obama?s America-hating pastor
2008-03-16 13:34:00
I’m glad that Obama has condemned his pastor’s controversial statements, but Joseph Farah is right: If your pastor was saying stuff like that, would you stay in that church? Would you have your children baptized there? I certainly wouldn’t. “We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God.” “We ...

The lesser of two evils?
2008-03-06 05:53:00
I don’t like the idea of voting for John McCain. I’ve said it many times before, but I’m afraid we’re going to lose the Republican party to liberals if we keep voting for the lesser of two evils rather than insisting on quality conservative candidates. On the other hand, Daniel Oliver made a great point on ...

Not satisfied with McCain? Vote for Huckabee.
2008-02-19 08:03:00
If you live in a state that has not yet held its primaries and you do not support McCain, I’d encourage you to vote for Huckabee . McCain is still short of the nomination, and we don’t have to support the establishment candidate. Huckabee can’t get the nomination, but he can ensure that we get a ...

The annoying Firefox pop-up window size bug
2008-02-02 03:47:00
Has anybody else experienced the frustration of trying to comment on blogs hosted by blogspot? You know, you click on “Leave a Comment,” and the pop-up window is about a tenth of the size it should be. You can’t read the other comments, and you certainly can’t leave one of your own. Liberals, liberals, everywhere
2008-02-01 05:09:00
According to National Journal’s ratings, Barack Hussein Obama was the most liberal of all US senators in 2007. Hillary was ranked 16th. Those conservatives who are thinking an Obama presidency would be better than a Hillary one better think again. On the Republican side, we have John McCain, who didn’t even vote enough last year ...

Fred calls it quits
2008-01-23 00:25:00
Fred withdrew his candidacy today. UPDATE: Mitt Romney issued this statement: Throughout this campaign, Fred Thompson brought a laudable focus to the challenges confronting our country and the solutions necessary to meet them. He stood for strong conservative ideas and believed strongly in the need to keep our conservative coalition together. Ann and I would like to extend our best wishes to Fred, Jeri and their family and congratulate them on their efforts during this campaign. UPDATE2: Fred would likely have won Louisiana: Louisiana’s social conservatives created the winning “Pro-life, Pro-family” slate in early January largely because we didn’t know if Fred was still going to be a candidate at the time of our caucuses (turns out that he wasn’t, by a few hours). Because we had almost all the state’s social conservative leaders for Fred, we were also able to stave off Huckabee by use of this “pro-life, pro-family” slate. I was re...
