Can you steal an election from yourself?
2008-02-11 04:23:00
While there’s some rumbling that the Democratic National Convention might involve tear gas this year it appears that the GOP higher-ups are getting a bit worried about Huckabee’s popularity. Huckabee took all the delegates for Kansas and won Louisiana by 1 percent just to have the GOP declare McCain the winner in Washington after ...

Shuster apologizes for remark about Chelsea
2008-02-09 17:42:00
Here’s something you don’t see everyday. David Shuster has actually apologized for what he said about Hillary and Chelsea Clinton. He did try the standard non-apology of “I apologize if you were offended by “whatever’” as have other racist/sexist talking heads when first confronted about it, but has since decided to apologize ...

In reaction to Hillary’s response to being accused of pimping out Chelsea, Greg Sargent had this to say: This is really something. The Hillary campaign has just gone to war with MSNBC, dispatching a top Hillary adviser to launch a lacerating attack on the network on a conference call with reporters moments ago. and: Though Shuster apologized this ...

Some good news about Hillary
2008-02-08 23:39:00
Sexism has plagued Hillary Clinton ’s life since Bill was elected back in November 1991. America quickly found out the first “lady” wasn’t a cookie baking dodo bird and it did not like it. Since then there hasn’t been much about Hillary that’s been left un-insulted. Once it became apparent that Hillary would be ...

About that pledge
2008-02-07 19:20:00
Just a quick note to point out this excellent post by Alonzo Fyfe over at Atheist Ethicist about the loyalty oath here in America. An excerpt: The sound of the bell announcing the start of the class startled her. She put herself on auto pilot. ?All stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.? Shawn, of course, did not stand. ...

Ray removes violent post, leaves death threat intact
2008-02-07 16:20:00
Sometime during the last day or so Ray Comfort posted the “joke” about the atheist that calls on the Christian god after a bear attacks him. A stupid exchange later, the god turns the bear into a Christian who promptly thanks the Christian god for the “food” he’s about to receive. Ha, ha, ha. Someone ...

Speaking to supporters in New York last night Hillary had this special thanks to say: I want to thank all my friends and family, particularly my mother, who was born before women could vote and is watching her daughter on this stage tonight. Super Tuesday update: Huckabee takes W. Virginia
2008-02-05 23:38:00
Huckabee’s won all 18 delegates for West Virginia with 52% of the vote. Huckabee won with the support of 52 percent of the state’s GOP convention delegates on the second round of balloting. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney came in second with 47 percent of the vote, and Sen. John McCain of Arizona was backed by 1 percent of the delegates. Romney was ahead in the first round of voting in Charleston but failed to get the majority needed to win. It appeared supporters of McCain, who placed a distant third on the first ballot, moved over to Huckabee, helping him carry the day. Mitt Romney, who only received 47 percent of the vote (the other 1 percent went to McCain) is furious over the loss.  His campaign manager Beth Myers even released a statement accusing McCain of cutting a “deal” with Huckabee just to block Romney from winning: “Unfortunately, this is what Senator McCain’s inside Washington ways look like: he cut a backroom deal with the ta...

British lab creates 3 parent embryos
2008-02-05 19:31:00
An apparent breakthrough has been made in the treatment of serious diseases with a British lab claiming that it has made up to 10 embryos from two women and one man. If all goes well it could lead to the eradication of inheritable diseases by lowering the chance of women passing those genes on to their children. The Newcastle University team believe the technique could help to eradicate a whole class of hereditary diseases, including some forms of epilepsy. The embryos have been created using DNA from a man and two women in lab tests. It could ensure women with genetic defects do not pass the diseases on to their children. The technique is intended to help women with diseases of the mitochondria - mini organelles that are found within individual cells. They are sometimes described as “cellular power plants” because they generate most of the cell’s energy. Faults in the mitochondrial DNA can cause around 50 known diseases, some of which lead to disability and death...

Why one man performs abortions
2008-02-05 18:30:00
Via Jill @ Feministe, check out this speech by Garson Romalis, a Canadian doctor who performs abortions despite two attempts on his life. I have been an abortion provider since 1972. Why do I do abortions, and why do I continue to do abortions, despite two murder attempts? The first time I started to think about abortion was in 1960, when I was in second year medical school. I was assigned the case of a young woman who had died of a septic abortion. She had aborted herself using slippery elm bark. I had never heard of slippery elm. A buddy and I went down to skid row, and without too much difficulty, purchased some slippery elm bark to use as a visual aid in our presentation. Slippery elm is not sterile, and frequently contains spores of the bacteria that cause gas gangrene. It is called slippery elm because, when it gets wet, it feels slippery. This makes it easier to slide slender pieces through the cervix where they absorb water, expand, dilate the cervix, produce infection and ...
Sir Richard’s going to smack Rev. Kenneth?
2008-02-05 15:55:00
It seems Kenneth Copeland may be sued by Richard Branson for ripping off the name of Branson’s company Virgin Galactic: Branson, who recently unveiled Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShip 2 is claiming copyright infringement. Branson states, “Jesus Galactic is clearly a take-off on the name Virgin Galactic, which is copyrighted. This could clearly lead some people to become confused. Let’s not forget, Jesus’ mother was a virgin. We can also assume that Jesus was a virgin as well, since the Bible does not mention anything about Him, you know… getting down with the ladies. Anyway, our lawyers have assured me we have a good case here.” Copeland has made the counter claim that it’s Branson who’s ripping off Christians because Christians believe their savior was born of a virgin. In Copeland’s universe this apparently means that the word virgin belongs to Christians and further claimed that:. “… Richard Branson is a tool of Satan in bringing this ...

Germany mad over god delusion for kids
2008-02-04 19:25:00
The German Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth is upset about a atheistic book for kids, charging that the book ridicules the religions of Yahweh (like any of them need help in that department). Of course, there’s no record of the slightest bit of outrage over the thousands of pro-Yahweh books, movies and ...

Mississippi swears it will protect women from themselves unless they?re rap

Mississippi to ban ‘fat’ people from eating in public
2008-02-01 20:09:00
Pardon the expression, but this just takes the cake. A Missi ssippi representative has written a bill that, if passed, will forbid restaurants from serving people who are obese according to the state. Any food establishment to which this section applies shall not be allowed to serve food to any person who is obese, based on criteria prescribed by the State Department of Health after consultation with the Mississippi Council on Obesity Prevention and Management established under Section 41-101-1 or its successor. The State Department of Health shall prepare written materials that describe and explain the criteria for determining whether a person is obese, and shall provide those materials to all food establishments to which this section applies. (H.B. 282) This is not a joke nor an attempt to raise concerns - it’s serious. Need we any more proof that the obesity “crisis” is plain f’ing insane and has more to do with shaming people that don’t fit a parti...

If god protects us from evil - why did god create evil?
2008-02-01 18:16:00
One of the selling points for Christianity is that god protects his followers from the evils that allegedly plague the planet. He watches over them like a vigilant father ready to do battle to protect his children. There’s only one problem. Christianity states that their god made all things thus God/Daddy created evil and all things that are considered “evil” such as the devil. This point was recently brought home by The Littlest Atheist over on Freethunk. The series focuses on a atheistic child and one of the latest issues has him bugging out about his closet being left open at night. Trying to calm him his mother (a theist of some sort) tells him God will protect him. Bertrand shoots back “Doubtful. Isn’t God the one who created the monster in the closet?” His mother just walks out the door, because well….God can’t be both a protector from evil and the creator of evil without some serious character flaws.

Copeland claims Huckabee supports his holy war
2008-02-01 16:54:00
Kenneth Copeland is claiming that Mike Huckabee supports him in his “holy war” against Senator Grassley and that that during a conversation with Huckabee about the investigation Huckabee literally screamed: “Are you kidding me? Why should I stand with them and not stand with you? They’ve only got 11 percent approval rating.” And then he said, “Kenneth Copeland, I will stand with you.” He said, “You’re trying to get prosperity to the people and they’re trying to take it away from ‘em.” He said, “I will stand with you any time, anywhere, on any issue.” That settled that right there. I said, “Yeah, that’s my man! That’s my man, right there.” I find it hard to believe that a Baptist, much less a Southern Baptist such as Huckabee, would support anyone preaching “prosperity” as it’s usually considered to be a corruption of “biblical” Christianity. So, ...

Pope Benedict: Don?t fire me, bro!
