Facebook - The CIA Conspiracy
2007-08-17 21:47:00
Source: NZ Herald Facebook has 20 million users worldwide, is worth billions of dollars and, if internet sources are to be believed, was started by the CIA. The social networking phenomenon started as a way of American college students to keep in touch. It is rapidly catching up with MySpace, and has left others like Bebo in its wake. But there is a dark side to the success story that's been spreading across the blogosphere. A complex but riveting Big Brother - type conspiracy theory which links Facebook to the CIA and the US Department of Defence. The CIA is, though, using a Facebook group to recruit staff for its very sexy sounding National Clandestine Service. Checking out the job ads does require a Facebook login, so if you haven't joined the site - or are worried that CIA spooks will start following you home from work - check them out on the agency's own site. The story starts once Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg had launched, after the dorm room drama that's l...

CIA and FBI Caught Editing Wikipedia
2007-08-17 13:04:00
Source: Reuters People using CIA and FBI computers have edited entries in the online encyclopedia Wikipedia on topics including the Iraq war and the Guantanamo prison, according to a new tracing program. The changes may violate Wikipedia's conflict-of-interest guidelines, a spokeswoman for the site said on Thursday. The program, WikiScanner, was developed by Virgil Griffith of the Santa Fe Institute in New Mexico and posted this month on a Web site that was quickly overwhelmed with searches. The program allows users to track the source of computers used to make changes to the popular Internet encyclopedia where anyone can submit and edit entries. WikiScanner revealed that CIA computers were used to edit an entry on the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. A graphic on casualties was edited to add that many figures were estimated and were not broken down by class. Another entry on former CIA chief William Colby was edited by CIA computers to expand his career history and ...

Ten Reasons Why You Should Never Accept a Diamond from Anyone
2007-08-13 16:25:00
Source: Field Guide To The U.S Economy You?ve Been Psychologically Conditioned To Want a Diamond. The diamond engagement ring is a 63-year-old invention of N.W.Ayer advertising agency. The De Beers diamond cartel contracted N.W.Ayer to create a demand for what are, essentially, useless hunks of rock. Diamonds are Priced Well Above Their Value. The De Beers cartel has systematically held diamond prices at levels far greater than their abundance would generate under anything even remotely resembling perfect competition. All diamonds not already under its control are bought by the cartel, and then the De Beers cartel carefully managed world diamond supply in order to keep prices steadily high. Diamonds Have No Resale or Investment Value. Any diamond that you buy or receive will indeed be yours forever: De Beers? advertising deliberately brain-washed women not to sell; the steady price is a tool to prevent speculation in diamonds; and no dealer will buy a diamond from you. You can ...

Geenimuunneltua Ruokaa Syöty Jo 10 Vuotta
2007-08-13 15:44:00
Source: Helsingin Sanomat Ruuasta kiistellyimpiä on geenimuunneltu. Gm-ruokaa on kasvatettu ja syöty maailmalla jo kymmenen vuotta. Muuntogeenistä maissia ja soijaa alettiin viljellä laajoilla aloilla ensi kertaa Yhdysvalloissa 1996. Nyt arviolta 8,5 miljoonaa maanviljelijää kasvattaa muuntogeenisiä lajikkeita 21 maassa. Viimeksi Iran avasi viljelmiä, jossa kasvaa geenimuunneltua riisiä, kertoo New Scientist. M...

Campus Gun Ban Disarmed Virginia Victims
2007-08-13 15:18:00
Source: Prison Planet A gun ban recently enforced by Virginia Tech campus prevented over thirty victims of today's [April 16, 2007] mass shooting from defending themselves against the killer, and yet gun control advocates are already politicizing this morning's tragic events to pull the lever for mass gun control. Virginia is a concealed carry state and yet Virginia Tech campus recently enforced a policy prohibiting "unauthorized possession, storage or control" of firearms on campus. According to gun rights activists such as Aaron Zelman of Jews For The Preservation of Firearms, VA Tech has "blood on its hands" for disarming the victims and other students who could potentially have stopped the killer in his tracks in the three hour time period he was allowed to carry out his rampage by cowardly police who hid behind trees as the carnage ensued. Reuters is already disseminating the talking points for an imminent propaganda coup against the Second Amendment...

São Paulo: A City Without Ads
2007-08-08 11:39:00
In 2007, the world?s fourth-largest metropolis and Brazil?s most important city, São Paulo, became the first city outside of the communist world to put into effect a radical, near-complete ban on outdoor advertising. Known on one hand for being the country?s slick commercial capital and on the other for its extreme gang violence and crushing poverty, São Paulo?s ?Lei Cidade Limpa? or Clean City Law was an unexpected success, owing largely to the singular determination of the city?s conservative mayor, Gilberto Kassab. Tony de MarcoAs the driving force behind the measure, mayor Kassab quelled the rebellion from the advertising industry with the help of key allies amongst the city?s elite. On many occasions, Kassab made the point that he has nothing against advertising in and of itself, but rather with its excess. He explained, ?The Clean City Law came from a necessity to combat pollution . . . pollution of water, sound, air, and the visual. We decided that we should start combati...

British Soldiers in Afghanistan Being Told to Leave Heroin Plants Alone
2007-08-07 14:52:00
Source: The Mail On Sunday Dramatic film shot has revealed that British troops in Afghanistan are told to leave heroin-producing opium crops untouched - contradicting Government claims it is committed to wiping out the drug. The footage shows soldiers fighting the Taliban in a field of opium poppies. One admits he wants to throw a grenade into "their beloved" plants, but says he would get "the telling-off of a lifetime". The MoD said last night it was not the troops' role to destroy crops but to provide security so farmers could be encouraged to grow alternatives. Meanwhile a shocking 339 troops have suffered brain damage in the past four years, the Ministry of Defence has admitted. read more

An Apple A Day Really Keeps the Doctor Away
2007-08-06 03:14:00
Source: Succeed With This ?An apple a day keeps the doctor away??but why? Do you really know what makes an apple so special? Why is it that we never hear an orange or a banana a day keeps the doctor away? Apple s have properties that no other fruits have and its benefits have been proven overtime. You will be able to get the benefits of these properties individually with other fruits, but an apple combines everything and makes it simpler. It has been shown over and over that if it?s not simple, easy and fast, people won?t take care of their health. Apple contains Vitamin C. Vitamin C helps greatly your immune system. A lot of people who lack Vitamin C in their diet have poor healing, bruise easily and have bleeding gums. Prevent Heart Diseases. The reason it can prevent both coronary heart disease and cardiovascular disease is because apples are rich in flavonoid. Flavonoids are also known for their antioxidant effects. Low in calories. A regular size apple has between 70-100 ca...

Former Agent Reveals: Google and CIA in Partnership
2007-08-05 07:00:00
Source: DailyTech Is Google 's quest to manage the world's information leading straight to the CIA? Former CIA clandestine case officer Robert David Steele made some very hot comments on his appearance on the Alex Jones radio show. Steele cites his contacts within the agency with the information that Google and the CIA are involved with one another. Steele said, "I think that Google has made a very important strategic mistake in dealing with the secret elements of the U.S. government - that is a huge mistake and I?m hoping they?ll work their way out of it and basically cut that relationship off." In reference to Google's fight against the U.S. Department of Justice for the privacy of its users, Steele claims that it was an elaborate charade intended for the public eye. read more

CBS Is Listening To Your Music
2007-08-05 01:44:00
Source: C|Net News CBS has purchased Last.fm, a social-networking site devoted to music. What it plans to do with the site, however, isn't clear yet. With the $280 million deal, announced Wednesday, CBS has acquired a popular social-media technology: the music "scrobbling" engine developed by Last.fm that analyzes what its members listen to. Based on scrobbling results, Last.fm offers recommendations for members' playlists, creates personalized radio stations, and connects members with people who share similar tastes. The deal continues the seemingly never-ending streak of tech acquisitions that traditional media companies have been pursuing as a way to boost their digital offerings. For example, News Corp., which purchased MySpace.com in 2005, said Wednesday that its Fox Interactive Media division has agreed to acquire image-sharing site Photobucket and slide show creator Flektor. "It's an aggressive move. Last.fm is a really good service," Jupiter Rese...

Afghanistan's Multibillion Dollar Heroin Trade
2007-08-04 21:46:00
Source: Global Research by Michel Chossudovsky Since the US led invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001, the Golden Crescent opium trade has soared. According to the US media, this lucrative contraband is protected by Osama, the Taliban, not to mention, of course, the regional warlords, in defiance of the "international community". The heroin business is said to be "filling the coffers of the Taliban". In the words of the US State Department: "Opium is a source of literally billions of dollars to extremist and criminal groups... Cutting down the opium supply is central to establishing a secure and stable democracy, as well as winning the global war on terrorism," (Statement of Assistant Secretary of State Robert Charles. Congressional Hearing, 1 April 2004) According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), opium production in Afghanistan in 2003 is estimated at 3,600 tons, with an estimated area under cultivation of the order...

George W. Bush: The Quiet Dictator
2007-08-02 17:04:00
Source: Irregular Times As of this week, the Bush Administration' s descent into totalitarian depravity has reached a new low so despicable that even a few Republicans are beginning to criticize it. It was revealed this week that the Bush Administration is planning to keep people as prisoners for their entire lives, even though there is no evidence that those people have committed any crime against the United States. The lack of evidence against these people is so striking that the America n government does not even have enough grounds to bring them before a form of military tribunal that has been set up by George W. Bush precisely for the purpose of evading the standards of justice set by the United States Constitution. Furthermore, it has been determined that these prisoners are of no use to American spies. As Reuters news service puts it, these are people "the government believes have no more intelligence to share". In the old, pre-Homeland, United States of Ame...

Source: Blair Art Studios [Put together by Fl0wer.net] Dru: In truth, I don't think I've ever been able to perfectly capture reality. The sole purpose of the Vanessa painting was merely a demonstration of technique for a Pin-up class at my school, and I was seeking to portray her as accurately as possible. However, try as I might, there are still differences between the photo reference and the painting. It was unconscious and unintentional, but her image changed as my mind interpreted and filtered it. Hopefully the believability of the image survived and remains convincing. Related: The Matrix DECODED | Painting of Tica by Dru Blair read more

The Drugging of our Children
2007-08-01 15:30:00
Gary Null examines the increasingly common practice of prescribing psychotropic drugs for children - including preschoolers as young as age 2 to 4 - who have been diagnosed with ADD, or ADHD. In the absence of any objective medical tests to determine who has ADD or ADHD, doctors rely in part on standardized assessments and the impressions of teachers and guardians while the they administer leave little room for other causes or aggravating factors, such as diet, or environment. read more

Advertising Deconstructed
2007-08-01 13:06:00
Source: Slate In 1978, Donald Gunn was a creative director for the advertising agency Leo Burnett. Though his position implied expertise, Gunn felt he was often just throwing darts?relying on inspiration and luck (instead of proven formulas) to make great ads. So, he decided to inject some analytical rigor into the process: He took a yearlong sabbatical, studied the best TV ads he could find, and looked for elemental patterns. After much research, Gunn determined that nearly all good ads fall into one of 12 categories?or "master formats," in his words. At last year's Clio Awards, I saw Gunn give a lecture about these formats (using ads mostly from the '70s and '80s as examples), and I was fascinated by his theory. I soon found myself categorizing every ad I saw on TV. It was a revelation: The curtain had been pulled back on all those sly sales tactics at the heart of persuasive advertising. This slide show presents some recent ads exemplifying each of Gunn's 1...

One Gun Too Few
2007-08-01 03:32:00
Source: News With Views by Edwin Vieira What the Washington Times of Tuesday, 17 April, aptly headlined as the "Massacre at Virginia Tech" is a tragedy that should - that must - teach this country a number of serious lessons. First, that all so-called "gun-free zones" are exceedingly dangerous places. For all "gun-free zones" amount to "self-defense prohibition zones" for honest citizens, and therefore "free-fire zones" for psychopaths, "terrorists, " and other homicidal criminals. If common sense did not, certainly the experiences documented by researchers such as John Lott confirm that the less "gun free" an area is (in terms of firearms in the immediate possession of honest citizens ready and willing to use them), the less violent crime occurs there. Virginia Tech has long been a "gun-free zone" for the purposes of its students' self-defense. In the name of preventing violence, the universit...
The Encyclopaedia of Deceit

Source: Slashdot (1) (2) "International Humanitarian Law professor Ludwig Braeckeleer thinks so. In an article published yesterday in the Korean newspaper OhMyNews, he reveals a discovery he made while researching a story on the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Scotland. It turns out that a Wikipedia administrator named SlimVirgin is actually Linda Mack, a woman who as a young graduate in the 1980s was hired by investigative reporter Pierre Salinger of ABC News to help with the investigation. Salinger later came to believe that Mack was actually working for Britain's MI5 on a mission to investigate the bombing and to infiltrate and monitor the news agency. Shortly after her Wikipedia identity was uncovered, many of her edits to articles related to the bombing were permanently removed from the database in an attempt to conceal her identity. This discovery comes only months after another Wikipedia admin was caught lying about his credentials to the press. What can Wikipedia ...
