Top Ten Tips - Public Restroom Etiquette
2008-06-06 06:00:00
Are you tired of rude restroom occupants? If so, it may be time to print out this list and leave it on the men’s or women’s restroom doors: Do What You Need To Do And Leave - Restrooms aren’t for lingering or catching up on the latest gossip. Respect others’ needs to use the toilets and sinks. Once you’re done with what you have to do, leave. Be Respectful Of Others’ Number Twos - If you’re touching up on your lipstick or combing your hair and notice someone’s behind a locked stall and not making a sound for a few minutes, respect the person by leaving and coming back later. You may feel comfortable with bodily functions around others, but many do not. Keep Your Eyes On The Wall Or Yourself - This is essential, especially in the men’s restroom. Don’t make others uncomfortable. If You Sprinkle While You Tinkle, Please Be Neat And Wipe The Seat - Whether precariously squatting over the seat or standing up, try not to pee on ...

Top Ten Tips - Keeping Your Swimming Pool Safe
2008-06-05 06:00:00
Summer hasn’t officially started yet, but there are already plenty of news reports about children drowning in swimming pools. In many cases, it was because no one was watching them or the pool lacked appropriate safety features. Here’s how to make sure your pool is safe: Install Fences - Install at least a four-foot fence around the perimeter of your pool with a self-closing latch that is not accessible to children. Also consider installing a fence around the perimeter of your yard so you do not have any wandering neighborhood kids coming for a swim when you’re not home. Buy A Pool Alarm - If you can afford one, buy a pool alarm, which sounds off when someone goes in the water. Consumer Reports and Good Housekeeping recommends Poolguard. Have The Appropriate Safe ty Devices - Have a life preserver or a shepherd’s hook nearby. Personal floatation devices, like inner tubes or swim wings, are not as effective in an emergency. Maintain Your Pool Drain - Make sure...

2008-06-04 06:00:00
Recent news such as the Megan Meier cyber bullying case, a Washington kidnapping and numerous child porn arrests have highlighted the need for increased Internet safety for children. But the best protection starts at home, with parents or guardians. Here are ways to keep your child safe online: Monitor Your Children’s Internet Usage - The best way is to keep children safe is to keep an eye on them when they’re online. Put the computer in a common area, such as a kitchen or living room, and only allow them to go online in your presence. Know who they’re speaking to online. Loosen the reigns as you see fit. Install Parental Control Software - There are many blocking and filtering software out there that will block unsafe sites, including porn and other adult-oriented websites; some even give you access to the sites your children are viewing or what they’re even typing. Net Nanny is one of the best-known, and PC Mag has a feature on the best parental control an...

Top Ten Tips - Giving Yourself A Pedicure
2008-06-02 06:00:00
It’s flip-flop and sandal season, so now is the time to show off your little piggies. But you don’t have to pay $20 for an expensive salon pedicure - you can do one at home quickly and cheaply: Remove Excess Nail Polish - Take nail polish remover and a cotton ball, and remove all traces of old nail polish. Soak Your Feet - Fill a basin or foot bath with hot, yet comfortable water, and liquid soap. Soak your feet for 10 minutes. Remove Dead Skin With A Pumice Stone - Remove your feet from the basin and rub off dead skin with a pumice stone. Do it over the basin, so you don’t get your dead skin everywhere. You may even want to rub your feet with a foot scrub to remove additional skin. Rub Your Feet With Lotion - Rub some foot lotion on your feet to make them nice and soft. Cut Your Toenails - Using a toenail cutter, cut your toenail straight across. If you curve the nail, you risk an ingrown nail and infection. If you need to file the edge, only file in one directio...

Top Ten Tip - Cooking Perfect Deviled Eggs
2008-06-01 06:00:00
Deviled eggs are the perfect party food - easy to make, requires little, if any, cleanup, and can quickly be consumed without a fork or knife. Here’s how to make the perfect deviled egg: Determine How Many Eggs You Need - Figure that people are going to eat at least two eggs, or four halves, each. Find The Right Sized Pot - The pot should not be too small or too large; the eggs should fit in comfortably with at least two inches of water covering them. Bring The Pot To A Boil - Put the eggs in the pot, cover with water, add a teaspoon of table salt, and bring to a rolling boil. Do not use the pot cover. Cook The Eggs - Once the water starts boiling, time the eggs for five minutes. After the five minutes is up, cover the pot, turn off the stove, and let the eggs sit for another five minutes. Pour Hot Water Out Of Pot And Refill With Cold Water - Pour the water into the sink; be careful that the eggs do not fall out! Immediately cover the eggs with cold water and let them sit fo...

Top Ten Tips - Reusing Chinese Takeout Containers
2008-05-31 06:02:00
When you receive Chinese , Japanese or other takeout food in plastic containers, do not throw them out after consuming your wonton soup. They are versatile and can be employed for many different uses: Reuse As Tupperware - The most obvious way to recycle the containers is to reuse them as they came - for food. Their sizes make them great for storing and freezing leftovers. They can also be used to carry lunch. Give Your Pet Some Water - If you and your dog go for long walks, take a pint-sized container with you and fill it with water along the route. The size makes it easy for the dog to lap up water without spilling it everywhere. Organize Small Items - From buttons to bolts and toys to hair ties, the containers are the perfect size for organizing and sorting through small items. As an added bonus, they stack well, so they can help declutter your shelves. Plant Some Seeds - The containers make great starting pots for your plants. Just poke a few holes in the bottom for drainage, an...

Top Ten Tips - Adding More Walking Into Your Day
2008-05-30 06:00:00
Walking is great exercise. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, walking can: give you more energy and make you feel good; reduce stress and help you relax; tone and strengthen your muscles; improve your stamina and fitness; and more. But you don’t have to plan a strenuous walking regimen or buy a treadmill. There are easy ways to get more steps in your day: Park Further Away From Your Destination - When driving to a store or office, park further away from the door and walk. Just make sure to do it in a safe area, and never at night. Get Off A Train Or Bus Stop Early - If you take a train, subway, trolley or bus, hop off a stop or two early and walk the rest of the way to your destination. Forgo The Elevator Or Escalator For Stairs - Climb as many flights as you can handle. Or, if you can’t walk all the way up, take the elevator or escalator up only part of the way and hoof the rest. Walk Over To Desks Of Co-Workers - Instead...
