Years ago we met a 70 year old woman who shared a very painful story about how she had lost her husband to another woman. She married at twenty to a wonderful young man. He loved her, worked hard, and treated her like a queen. “At twenty, and cute, I wasn’t quite ready to be a stay at home wife and do housework all day. So, when my single girlfriends would call, we’d go ‘hang out.’� I’d try to get home before my husband but I rarely made it.� So, when her husband got home, she’d be gone—no dinner, no clean house, no clean clothes, no her. He talked to her about it, asked her to do better, but her need to be with her friends was greater than her need to meet his needs. After a year, she discovered that a neighbor was meeting his needs far better than she.
