Airtel launches 'PCO on wheels' in Kozhikode
2007-06-09 16:13:00 Perhaps first of its kind in the country, telecom major Bharti Airtel has launched coin-operated public telephones on three-wheelers in the city. Inaugurating 'Airtel on Wheel s ' last evening City Police Commissioner Balram Kumar Upadhaya said the facility would be in great help to commuters, who could contact police, hospitals or their relatives in case of emergency. Installed in ten autorickshaws on experimental basis initially in association with Autorickshaws Drivers Union (ADU) the facility would be made available in more vehicles in the city, said ADU leader Mohammed Koya. In order to help the commuters, a display board showing the name of the driver, PCO number, a map of the city, names of police stations, banks and hospitals were fitted behind the drivers seat. For installation of the facility, operated by using recharge coupon, the drivers would have to pay a sum of Rs 2,555. They in turn would get a 30 per cent commission out of the total collection. History of IIM kozhikode (iimk)
2007-05-25 17:37:00 Indian Institute of management Kozhikode (iimk) was instituted in 1996 by the Government of India as the 5th IIM in the country, with the collaboration of Government of Kerala state.At first the IIMK was operational at the National Institute of technology Calicut. The first batch of 42 students started of their academics from this temporary campus. In the year 2000 the land of present location in the top of two hills was identified in Kunnamangalam in Kozhikode. The next year Joseph Stein (late) - the architect of the India Habitat Centre in Delhi and Stein Mani Chowfla began the design and construction of the institute. In the Year 2003, IIMK shifted into its new location, which is now its present location - The hill-top campus. It was inaugurated by Dr. APJ.
