INK BLAST | LET'S RAISE MORE HEALTHY AND HAPPY BLACK GIRLS, LIKE THE OBAMA
2008-12-01 19:31:00
The Obamas' little girls represent an ideal of childhood that sadly too few Black children enjoy. It's rare when any two little Black girls get a lot of positive attention in the media. But Malia, 10, and Sasha, 6, who are the picture of healthy, happy kids, have been making a splash.

11.28.08 - 01.31.09 | THE MARTINEZ GALLERY PRESENTS: MASTERING THE HEIGHTS
2008-11-24 19:51:00
In what has to be one of the most interesting and creative art installations of ?08, the current incarnation of the Martinez Gallery is an apartment in Washington Heights that is more artwork than art gallery. Amsterdam-based designers Kaptein Roodnat have altered the apartment?s basic structure, and redefined its integrity and boundaries, slicing into walls, opening rooms into one another and incorporating outdoor spaces. In staging such a dramatic intervention in a rented apartment, the designers have transgressed against private property to create a space for public speech. Just as graffiti seeks to bring art into working-class urban neighborhoods, this new project brings street art indoors, showcasing affordable art in the context of affordable housing.

SAVE MONEY VIA THE SHEER GENIUS OF NYC.BESTPARKING.COM
2008-11-23 04:50:00
The other morning at 8:45AM, after my wife had left for work and as I was getting ready to leave, I get a text from her saying "oh, by the way, the car needs to be moved" today. I had a brief "arghhh" moment as I had to be in Soho by 10AM and finding parking in my neighborhood at 8:45AM is a one hour ordeal. I simply did not have the time to go find parking, then hop on the A train for 45 minutes and still make my 10AM in time.

2008-11-20 21:59:00
Everywhere you turn, people are talking about the high expectations sitting squarely on President-Elect Barack Obama's shoulders. He's got to fix the economy. Give us universal health care. Mend our ailing public school system. Restore our standing in the rest of the world. End the war in Iraq. Heal centuries of racial divisiveness. Make us an energy-independent superpower. In short, he's gotta save the world.

2008-11-20 00:34:00
It seems there are lots of stores that are closing due to the "recession" and the fact that people are not shopping. Below are stores that have informed the Security Exchange of closing plans between October 2008 and January 2009. Please share with friends and fam. If you have any "gift cards" from these stores, make sure you use them, or you will lose them. Watch those store money cards, gift cards and credit slips.

SAY WORD! | WHY DOES THE CITY OF NEW YORK ENGAGE IN LEGALIZED VANDELISM?
2008-11-14 12:26:00
Here's what I can't understand. Why does the City Of New York , aside from the fine, engage in what amounts to legalized vandelism of my private property by sniping my rear passenger, drivers side car window with a 12x12 garishly green neon sticker using industrial strength glue? Is that really necessary? Isn't it a little excessive? Is a fine not enough? Not in New York City my friends.

INK_BLAST | IS THIS IGNORANT OR CLEVER?
2008-11-10 14:25:00
The other day I was in Hackensack, NJ, at a local Latino supermarket with my sister, picking up some stuff for dinner. I decided to browse the aisles for some traditional Dominican treats. You know, things like the salted crackers that come in slender clear packs, or the guava paste so thick and rich you have to count your teeth after eating it. It was great to walk through aisle after aisle filled with all kinds of products that were so familiar to me and elicited such nostalgia for my childhood in Dominican Republic. (I also got to browse sweets from places like Mexico and Ecuador and Colombia, which I was not brave enough to try.)

IMPORTANT ELECTION DAY INFO | DO?S AND DON?TS WHEN YOU GO TO THE POLLS
2008-11-04 05:59:00
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A VALID STATE OR U.S. ISSUED PHOTO ID - Or you may not be allowed to vote. Many Democrats, specifically African-Americans were disenfranchised by shady schemes and turned away at the polls in 2000 (Florida) & 2004 (Ohio) for small infractions. Not having proper ID with you is an old trick that's been used since the Civil Rights movement of the '60's. BE PREPARED THIS TIME. This is way too important an election and the stakes are high. EVERY SINGLE vote will count. We can not have another situation like Bush/Gore in 2000.
