I just read the scariest post evah, lawyer guy Al Nye writes in his blog, that a chief energy advisor mentions that the gas prices we are seeing today of $4- $5 per gallon of gas, are in the near future gonna be known as “the good ole days”. photos - flickr $12 to $15 per gallon of gas. Those are insane numbers, and all heck is going to break loose, if gallon prices went up that high. I shudder to think what will happen to the world as we know it. General Electric is making plans to produce electric powered tugboats, as reported in green transportation blog Autopia. The diesel-electric tugboats would burn 35% less fuel than current running models, and emit 80% less pollution. This comes at a time when the shipping business is being called out for being even less greener than the airline business. Federal and state legislation is also calling for the green-i-fi-cation of the shipping business, and below is a statement from GE, on why start with tugboats? There are about 4,000 tugboats in America, according to the American Waterways Operators, and Tom Kelly of C-Mar says they’re well-suited to diesel-electric drivetrains. Most countries have their own way of providing public transportation and for the Philippines, jeepneys are perhaps that common way to travel if you want to save on cost and get away from the usual traffic. But the problem here lies in the fact that majority of these jeepneys run on diesel fuel and are thus harming the environment as well with their smoke belching exhaust. However all is not yet lost. With the green technology that is available, it all depends on how these jeepneys can be re-designed in a way to which their mode of operation can be improved.
