Another Eco-friendly Boutique Opens in Chicago
2008-05-24 21:42:00 The large number of boutiques and stores that have been opening one after another in most parts of the world is certainly a good sign for people who want to go eco-friendly. Unlike before, people do not really have an idea on where to buy eco-friendly goods although some existing stores insist that they are eco-friendly. These boutiques offer a large range of consumer products from towels all the way to the eco-friendly made clothing that most people require today. While many are apprehensive on what these finishes may bring, it would be wise to check them out first before ultimately passing judgment on the level of green awareness that these eco-friendly boutiques have to offer. Jessa Brinkmeyer said customers find that going green can be gorgeous in her eco-smart fashion boutique. “When you walk in, you realize you don’t have to sacrifice anything in terms of style or fashion in order to be green,” she said. “People are pleasantly surprised and shocked about what is bei... More Weight and Less Energy for Intel Core Duo E7200 Processor
2008-05-24 21:40:00 As far as wise computing is concerned, we all have our preferences for the main processor that our computer would hold. Apparently, we fail to recognize the real issue on our processors that of which is speed that emits heat. Heat in turn is the energy wasted and thus the real score here is to reduce that heat using the latest technology while at the same time providing the same level of performance due today. Such is the intent of Intel ’s new processor, the Intel Core Duo E7200 processor. It lies heavily in trying to shield the heat and providing the same level of performance in computers today. Though it may be heavier, it should help prove how the eco-friendly matters that it boasts of sets in. Once we got our first “Wolfdale” chips in for testing, we realized that a modern dual-core processor can still bring exceptional performance for today’s high-end machines. While quad-cores definitely have more appeal for the heavy multi-tasking power user, dual-cores can typicall... More About: Weight , Energy , Processor

Green Products for Swimming Pool Owners
2008-05-23 18:00:00 For pool owners, using the usual chemicals like chlorine has its effects on the green standards being passed today. But while these are needs, the eco-friendly researches made for them is apparently not being left behind. SeaKlear is part of a technology-oriented, venture-capital-backed firm called HaloSource that dates to 1981, when two chemists teamed up to extract chitin from crab shells left by Washington state canneries. They used the chitin to create alternatives to petroleum-based products, starting with the clarifier. A liquid magnet of sorts, the clarifier combines dirt and oily scum into clumps large enough to be caught in a pool or spa’s filter. So if you are among the wealthy pool owners, check out these eco-friendly pool clarifiers. It is something that can really be your part in global eco-friendly efforts being done today. An eco bike made of plastic!
2008-05-23 15:00:00 It would seem at first that the words plastic and eco should not really be made within the same sentence, but in this we are going to have to make an exception which will break all of the rules. Even Cosmetics Have Become Green
2008-05-23 04:15:00 Don’t look now but even the cosmetic companies have joined the mix as far as providing eco-friendly products for the wiser green consumers today. Much of the world today has been awed by these events of companies turning green. It is not really about money but more of giving in to what consumers need and how to adopt the green standards that have been evidently clamored for by people who want to do their own part for the world’s environmental improvement. “We’ve been seeing the ‘green’ movement everywhere,” said Taya Tomasello, Mintel’s senior beauty analyst. “It’s now moving over to beauty and personal care. [Consumers] were asking for it and manufacturers are responding.” The most common claim made by marketers of beauty products in the U.S. is that they’re cruelty-free. About 1,600 products were introduced with such a claim last year, per Mintel, London. (Source) Brandweek beauty products, cosmetic companies, ... More About: Cosmetics , Green

2008-05-23 03:55:00 I think it was just a matter of time before the queen of Compassion, Oprah , went Vegan . I am not at all suprised to hear this news. Oprah has always been a champion for the defenseless and innocent, so what better way to fight, than to shun the meat industry and become a plant eater. WooHoo! Below Oprah explains her decision: If I want to be someone with spiritual integrity, I have to think about the principles that I want to adhere to— compassion, kindness, mercy and the alleviating of suffering when I see it.…I thought, ‘If I want to further myself on my spiritual path, as well as my health path, I need to have more integrity. Earthentree Distributes Simple Eco-Friendly Toys
2008-05-23 02:56:00 Toys will always make a child happy. However, today a lot has been said on the kind of toys that are available in the market. Many toy manufacturers forget their ultimate social responsibility and most of, disregard the safety of potential hazards that raw materials and toxins can do to the child that finds comfort in toys. Earthentree is one of these toy manufacturers that have acknowledged the need to be eco-friendly. It is not primarily about making money or a name for yourself. A lot of the big toy producers have been hit and soon enough, they will find themselves facing more penalties rather than the profits that they had originally hoped for. In short, your lackadaisical outlook will always come back to haunt you no matter how big you have gotten. Recently at the Green Festival in Seattle April 12-13, Earthentree got an enthusiastic response. “I am getting tremendous amount of response,” she told India-West. “I am getting emails every day for wholesale enquiries and re... $12 - $15 Per Gallon Of Gas Possible Says CNBC
2008-05-22 23:38:00 I just read the scariest post evah, lawyer guy Al Nye writes in his blog, that a chief energy advisor mentions that the gas prices we are seeing today of $4- $5 per gallon of gas, are in the near future gonna be known as “the good ole days”. photos - flickr $12 to $15 per gallon of gas. Those are insane numbers, and all heck is going to break loose, if gallon prices went up that high. I shudder to think what will happen to the world as we know it. I hate to get all dramatic, but just think about it for a moment. It would cost most Americans like $200 bucks a week to fill up. That is simply not possible for many. I envision mass transit also being affected, as those who cant afford gas, would have to take buses and trains to get to and from work, etc. Bike sales would go up, which is a positive. (for biker sellers) Hey, entreprenuer types, there is a fledging business idea for you. Start a bike business. Not the electric bike kind, just the regular old-fashioned huma...
Rock Port, Missouri - First City in the U.S. to be 100% wind powered!
2008-05-22 21:48:00 Rock Port , a small town in Missouri , has become the first city in the U.S. to be 100% wind powered. Supposedly, their electric bills will freeze for the next 20 years. Rock Port, MO 2/6/08. Rock Port Missouri is the first 100% wind powered community in the United States. To celebrate this tremendous achievement, a Green Switch Celebration will be held on Friday, April 18, 2008. Rock Port’s 100% wind power status is due to four wind turbines located on agricultural lands within the city limits of Rock Port. The city of Rock Port uses approximately 13 million kilowatt hours of electricity each year. It is predicted that these four turbines will produce 16 million kilowatt hours each year. Excess wind generated electricity not used by Rock Port homes and businesses will move onto the transmission lines to be purchased by the Missouri Joint Municipal Utilities for use in other areas. This makes Rock Port, Missouri the first community in America capable of meeting its entire annual ele... More About: Rock , Wind , City

Californians have to pay the highest Gas Prices!
2008-05-22 06:36:00 It’s true, Californians pay most gas taxes out of all U.S. residents. As you can see in the above map, California makes up more than 5% of all gas taxes paid. Do I feel ripped off about this as a resident of San Francisco? Hell, yes, this is a free country, why isn’t gas tax distributed evenly along the country? Gas should be more expensive inland not toward the seaside. If you happen to live in San Francisco, you can always hit up the Twin Peaks Gas station on every Wednesday for some really low gas prices. Electric Tugboats Being Developed By GE
2008-05-22 04:30:00 General Electric is making plans to produce electric powered tugboats, as reported in green transportation blog Autopia. The diesel-electric tugboats would burn 35% less fuel than current running models, and emit 80% less pollution. This comes at a time when the shipping business is being called out for being even less greener than the airline business. Federal and state legislation is also calling for the green-i-fi-cation of the shipping business, and below is a statement from GE, on why start with tugboats? There are about 4,000 tugboats in America, according to the American Waterways Operators, and Tom Kelly of C-Mar says they’re well-suited to diesel-electric drivetrains. Tugs spend a lot of time idling on standby, then require a short burst of high power to escort freighters and tankers. Batteries would allow them to do both without burning loads of fuel or emitting lots of pollution. The tugboat will use either a GE V228 or V250 Diesel Engine, the exact motor and batte...

How Long Does Trash Really Last?
2008-05-22 02:39:00 How long does trash last? Well, I believe that glass bottle can be recycled easily but it does take 1 million years for it to dispose itself. Anything plastic? Possibly 500 or more years. Not recycling yet? Well, you should even if you don’t live in a city that poorly supports recycling. Glass Bottle—One Million Years Okay, we don’t really know whether a glass bottle takes a million years, two million years, or a million years and one day to degrade since no one has been monitoring them for that long. But suffice it to say, when a glass bottle isn’t recycled, it sticks around for a really, really long time. Glass is primarily of composed of silica—the same material as sand—and doesn’t break down even under the harshest environments. Filipino Jeepneys going Green
2008-05-21 20:48:00 Most countries have their own way of providing public transportation and for the Philippines, jeepneys are perhaps that common way to travel if you want to save on cost and get away from the usual traffic. But the problem here lies in the fact that majority of these jeepneys run on diesel fuel and are thus harming the environment as well with their smoke belching exhaust. However all is not yet lost. With the green technology that is available, it all depends on how these jeepneys can be re-designed in a way to which their mode of operation can be improved. It all starts from their mechanical components, most of which are being addressed by the part makers of these locally assembled vehicles in the Philippines. Jesus S. Bautista, secretary general of the Motor Vehicle Parts Manufacturers Association of the Philippines, said in an interview that the group recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the Green Renewable Independent Power Producers (GRIPP) to produce 44 e-jeepneys.... But if this country is to start this eco-friendly practice, it all starts with one step and that is perhaps the concept that Convergys Corp. had in made when it declared that its expansion centers included one call center location that will be eco-friendly. “Nuvali itself is being groomed into an eco-friendly community by the Ayalas,” said Jomari Mercado, business development director for Convergys Philippines. “Our facility will use solar panels, and the developers also plan to harness solar power to provide electricity for public premises including streetlamps.” A man-made lake is also being constructed to take advantage of rainfall as a water resource.
