2008-05-15 14:04:00
Recently I emailed Brian Jones, owner of the "A Christmas Story" house and all related licensing:"Its going well. I am in on everything Christmas Story, that includes the musical. I gave Jerry all the contacts he need last year to get all the legal rights to make the musical. He has all of that in order and should know more about the production by the end of the month. Its going to have a 2009 debut. We have a bunch going on for merchandise and the convention this year. The schedule for the convention is here: http://www.achristmasstoryhouse-.com/index.php/convention/ The highlights include the premiere of 2 documentaries about A Christmas Story, rides in the original fire truck from the movie, the display (for the weekend only) of one of the original bb-guns, and a speakers series with crew members who worked on the film, and a look a like contest. A Christmas Story Meme
2007-12-11 16:10:00
I saw this on my blogging twin Meleah?s site yesterday and decided to steal it for today. Please do not confuse this with the meme she posted and tagged me with today that I am posting tomorrow. I hope you aren?t confused. At any rate, I felt a Christmas themed list was entirely appropriate for this time of year as opposed to, well, let?s say July. 1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?I am a horrible wrapper and friends and family have come to expect lopsided, crumbled up and over-taped packages from me. The people at Scotch Tape have actually suggested I buy stock in their company. The key is beginning with way too much paper. I believe it really shows folks my humility and how much I care that I am willing to give them a gift even though it is poorly wrapped. It?s the thought that counts this time of year, right?2. Real tree or artificial?Artificial. Though I had the real deal growing up and miss it. 3. When do you put up the tree?Right around Thanksgiving, if not slightly befo...

Meanwhile The Old Man just got a major award (a lamp shaped like a woman's leg), and Mom is making sure The Old Man doesn't come near her turkey, Ralphie's friend gets his tongue stuck to a flag pole, and Ralphie utters the f-word infront of his father. Christmas is drawing nearer and Ralphie visits Santa at the department s...

A Christmas Story
2007-12-03 13:48:00
Ralphie, a young boy growing up in the '40's, dreams of owning a Red Rider BB gun. He sets out to convince the world this is the perfect gift. But along the way, he runs into opposition from his parents, his teacher, and even good 'ol Santa Claus himself. Written by Angela Anuszewski {axa143@psu.edu} It's 1940, in the northern Indiana town of Hohman. 9-year-old Ralph "Ralphie" Parker wants only one thing for Christmas -- an official Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot range model BB rifle with a compass in the stock. Between his younger brother Randy and having to handle school bully Scut Farkus, Ralphie doesn't know how he'll ever survive long enough to get the BB gun for Christmas. When Ralph asks his mother for a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas, she says, "No, you'll shoot your eye out". When Mrs. Shields, Ralph's teacher at Harding Elementary School, assigns the class to write a theme about what they want for Christmas, Ralph sees a golden opportunity to express his desire ...

A Department 56 obsession
2007-06-09 15:38:00
I admit it, I'm obsessed with Department 56. I've always loved the village displays at Yankee Candle in Deerfield, MA. That's where it started. From Christmas in the City, to Dickens' Village, to the original Snow Village and the whimsical North Pole village, they struck a chord with me, reminding me of how I've loved Christmas since I was a child. When I first met my wife, she wasn't a Christmas nut like I am. She didn't think much of these expensive ceramic buildings either. She did, however, like Halloween, and so that's where it started. We both dove into collecting the original Snow Village Halloween set. We eventually built an amusement park-themed display, featuring the scaredy cat ferris wheel, spinning pumpkins, mummy carousel and more. She had her set, now it was time for me to select the one I was going to collect. With a love of the movie, "A Christmas Story", when we spotted a set of buildings and accessories from Department 56 @ Sears, there was no choice. I had ...
