Westbrook Finally Makes Pro Bowl
2007-12-18 23:01:00
After years of being snubbed, Brian Westbrook has finally made is to Honolulu. Westbrook leads the NFL in total yards from scrimmage(1,896), and leads all RBs  in yards per touch(5.6). Brian is having a career year reaching the end zone 12 times, and is now getting the league wide respect he deserves. Shawn Andrews made it ...
Goal line situations
2007-08-22 18:06:00
One of the situations people frequently forget about is the goal line and short yardage situations on defense. What personnel will the Green Bay Packers trot out on the field during those downs?"During goal-line work on Tuesday, the Packers used the defensive tackle trio of Corey Williams, Johnny Jolly and Ryan Pickett for one series, and the trio of Colin Cole, Jolly and Pickett for another," reports Mike Spofford on the Green Bay Packers official website.Starters Cullen Jenkins and Aaron Kampman will likely stay on the field in those situations.Welcome to the Railbird feed. Packers suddenly thin at defensive end
2007-08-20 15:52:00
Green Bay Packers defensive end Michael Montgomery was one of four players to have MCL injuries Saturday night in the preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. His injury leaves the Packers in a little more precarious position at defensive end than the team might prefer."Depending on the severity of the strain or tear, MCL injuries generally take two to six weeks to heal ? six weeks if the ligament is completely torn," reports Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "Montgomery's injury appeared among the worst of the four, and he had his arms around the shoulders of two people as he limped to the tunnel that leads to the locker rooms at halftime. He also sustained a torn posterior-cruciate ligament and sprained MCL in his right knee in practice on Dec. 6 last year that ended his 2006 season, though it's unclear whether he injured the same knee Saturday night."On the assumption that Montgomery would be out an extended period of time, that leaves the Packers without any b...
Thumbs up photo of the day (8/14/2007)
2007-08-14 14:57:00
Today's thumbs up goes out to Larry Birdine, a backup defensive end looking to nab a backup job with the Green Bay Packers. "Defensive end Larry Birdine, a free-agent rookie from Oklahoma, is getting better," reports Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "He applied constant pressure playing the last 2½ quarters in Pittsburgh and gave great effort Monday in the one-on-one drills. Birdine isn't an easy mark for anyone these days." Birdine led the Packers in tackles with six during Saturday's preseason win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Packers are thin at end behind Cullen Jenkins, Aaron Kampman and Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila. It could be a place where a player could steal a spot. Of course, Birdine would have to show more potential than Michael Montgomery and Jason Hunter.Welcome to the Railbird feed. Eat up.
Post-game impressions
2007-08-13 16:13:00
Here are a handful of impressions from Saturday's first preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers:Among the biggest criticisms from the game is that the first team offense basically stalled. It was only the first preseason game and not a lot of critque should be based upon three series, but there is cause for minor concern. Why didn't Brett Favre throw the ball downfield? Not a single pass from Favre was longer than five yards. The blitzing Pittsburgh defense certainly didn't allow Favre to sit back and scan the field for very long, but the blocking did a pretty good job of picking up the blitz on all but a play or two. On a blitz, there has to be a breakdown in coverage somewhere. And the Packers need to exploit that in the future.Aaron Rodgers looked good. He completed his passes for a high percentage, and he kept drives going. His twenty yard scramble was clutch. It's only one game, but hopefully there's plenty more where that came from.Rookie runnning back Brandon Jacks...
Kampman strives to improve even more
2007-08-07 16:31:00
There's a great article in today's Green Bay Press-Gazette with some nice insight into the world of Packers Pro Bowl defensive end Aaron Kampman."Kampman's study habits also suggest he's still learning the game," writes Rob Demovsky of the Press-Gazette. "At practice on Monday, he stopped quarterback Brett Favre after a series to ask why he made a certain audible call.""(Former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker) Derrick Thomas would study quarterbacks better than anyone," said John Schneider, the Packers' personnel analyst to the general manager, who spent three years with the Chiefs. "Not that I'm comparing Aaron to Derrick Thomas, but he's like him in that he knows how to attack his opponent. He's the ultimate professional in terms of studying his opponent and learning quarterbacks' tendencies."Kampman isn't lining up against rookies every day in practice, either. He's going against the best time in and time out."There may be no better authority on Kampman than (Mark) Tausc...
Favre misses practice again
2007-08-02 19:43:00
Green Bay Packers quarterback unexpectedly missed practice Thursday morning."Favre was expected to return Wednesday night after flying to Mississippi for the funeral of his wife's stepfather," reports Tom Pelissero of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "The reason for his absence was not immediately clear."Favre was not the only one either. As part of head coach Mike McCarthy's plan, several selected veterans will only be practicing once during the two-a-day practices. It is unknown whether Favre was simply missing due to being held out by McCarthy or whether he may have been delayed in returning to Green Bay.Among the players missing morning practice were:Tackles Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher, receiver Donald Driver and Robert Ferguson (showed up late), defensive ends Aaron Kampman and Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, cornerbacks Charles Woodson and Al Harris, tight end Bubba Franks and long-snapper Rob Davis.
Favre and Morency sit out morning practice
2007-07-29 17:19:00
Sunday sees both a morning practice and an evening practice for the Green Bay Packers. The morning practice began at 8:45 a.m."Not present at practice were QB Brett Favre, RB Vernand Morency and TE Tory Humphrey," reports Tom Pelissero of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "Selected veterans generally will sit out some morning workouts during training camp."Humphrey is obviously out due to injury. Favre is being rested as he typically is. But no reason has been given for Morency's absence.Pelissero also reports, "Practicing in shorts this morning are: WR Donald Driver, TE Bubba Franks, P David Lonie, T Chad Clifton, WR Robert Ferguson, DE Aaron Kampman, DL Ryan Pickett, LB Juwan Simpson and DL Johnny Jolly."This can only come as good news regarding Driver, Pickett and Jolly, all of whom were not allowed to practice at all on Saturday.
Kampman says he's in "great shape"
2007-07-28 16:38:00
Green Bay Packers defensive end Aaron Kampman is coming off off-season surgery, but he assures fans that there's no need to worry.Kampman wrote a journal entry on NFLPlayers.com and he say everything's fine.Kampman writes, "I?m pretty excited about heading into camp. The medical staff actually did not want me to participate in the minicamps and things because I had a cleanup on my knee, so they held me out of minicamps and OTAs. I?m in great shape, but sometimes doctors are precautious and they want you to just rest a little bit. That was the situation, but I?m definitely ready to get back at it. I feel great and am probably in the best shape of my life. I haven?t had a chance to be on the field since the Pro Bowl. So, I?m really itching to go and excited about our team with the things I think we can do. So, I?m looking forward to it."You can click the link to read the rest of Kampman's journal entry.
Packers' D-line ranks in top half of NFL
2007-07-24 15:59:00
The Green Bay Packers' defensive line has been ranked as the 15th best unit in the entire NFL by Ned Macey for Fox Sports.Macey writes, "This ranking may be high for the Packers, but if they are going to make a surprise playoff run, the defensive line will be this good. Aaron Kampman is one of the league's most complete defensive ends, pressuring the quarterback while still playing the run adequately. On the other end, Cullen Jenkins has assumed the starting role, and this unheralded player is certainly someone to watch this year. Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila returns to the role of pass-rush specialist, where he should again be an impact player. The key for the unit is the health of Justin Harrell, the first-round pick out of Tennessee. Harrell was considered a reach in the draft but has excellent physical skills. One weakness is that Kampman and Ryan Pickett on the left side of the line get pushed back on running plays more than the Packers would like. Both players amass numerous tackles...
Worst NFL Preview Ever: Ranks Packers 29th in NFL
2007-07-07 17:19:00
I was reading a few things on the sports wikia site known as ArmchairGM, until I stumbled upon on NFL Off Season Power Ranking. The post written by Armchair user Hbvgamer, places the Packers 29th out of 32 NFL teams. How could they be so low?According to Hbvgamer, "Farve needs to retire! He is doing nothing to help the Packers out. He has been steadily decreasing with every year. Last year he had 18 touchdowns and 18 interceptions with a 56% completion rate. Joey Harrington has a better completion percentage with 62.5! Donald Driver is getting all the passes as he is a dominant receiver, but the defenses have figured that out. Their number two receiver, Jennings, caught for less then half the yards then Driver. The running game is completely gone for the Packers, neither their HB's nor FB's have very, very little experience, if any. I hate to say it, but I think their defense may actually be better then their offense. Woodson had 8 interceptions last year and knows how to play the...

2007-07-06 17:58:00

Hawk, Aaron Kampman, and Charles Woodson. No other options or write-ins are available.Favre currently leads the way with 71.5% of the vote. Following Favre in descending order Hawk, Kampman, Woodson and Clifton. All are well behind Favre.
Meet Larry Birdine
2007-07-04 16:13:00
Oklahoma defensive end Larry Birdine was one of the most highly touted undrafted free agents the Green Bay Packers signed in 2007. After earning first team All-Big 12 honors last season, Birdine went undrafted. In a recent article for Packer Report, Todd Korth says Birdine could become an eventual starter in in the Packers defensive system ala Cullen Jenkins.According to Korth, "The Packers often inserted Birdine at the strong-side position during the team?s off-season mini-camps and Organized Team Activities practices. Aaron Kampman is the starter at the strong-side position and is backed up by Michael Montgomery, who finished last season on the team?s injured reserve list with hamstring and knee injuries."Montgomery and 2006 undrafted rookie Jason Hunter will be Birdine's main competition for a roster spot in the 2007 edition of the Packers. It is assumed that Jenkins, Kampman, and Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila are locks to make the Packers' roster. Although, Gbaja-Biamila seems to be the...
Kampman comments on surgery
2007-06-12 16:48:00
Green Bay Packer defensive end Aaron Kampman has been held out of all of the team's offseason workouts and minicamp practices as he recovers from offseason knee surgery.Nothing appears to be too serious and holding him out has just been precautionary. In fact, it's even been reported that if there was a game right now, Kampman could play.Kampman told Green Bay's ABC affiliate WBAY, "My typical response is, 'What knee?' You know, you have your body that isn't meant to be beat like that but sometimes we need to clean it up. That's what I did, cleaned it up, and I should be ready to go."
Packers help raise funds for cancer
2007-06-12 16:42:00
Several members of the Green Bay Packer organization helped raise funds for cancer patients in the fourth annual Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer. The motorcycle caravan originated out of the Lambeau Field parking lot on Saturday with A.J. Hawk and his wife, Laura Quinn-Hawk, leading the way on the "pace" cycle.Other Packers participating in the event were head coach Mike McCarthy, Aaron Kampman, Daryn Colledge, Jason Spitz, Noah Herron, and Colin Cole.Packers chairman Bob Harlan also attended at Lambeau Field while signing copies of his newly released book.
