Favre Retires, World Stops, Elections Canceled, Aaron Rodgers Celebrates
2008-03-04 12:50:00 It looks like someone at Packers.com had a right to jump the gun mucking up the headline. Brett Favre after 17 wonderful years at Green Bay, has decided to retire according to ESPN. There is only one doubt and that is ESPN is the king of jumping the gun and getting any rumor true. If this is the

Doomed! Doomed I Tell You! - Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre, AJ Feeley
2007-11-30 12:28:00 Do you have injured quarterback problems? If you're like me, and you needed Brett Favre to lead your team to a playoff-critical win this week (son of a %$#ing ^&@#!!), then head over here (don't worry, cursing is encouraged) and take a look at who will be taking on the starting QB role in a few places: A.J. Feeley, Philadelphia - Is Donovan McNabb healthy? Nobody is saying, but McNabb didn't practice yesterday and Feeley is working with the first team. So that probably means no. Considering that Feeley threw for 345 yards and 3 TDs last week against the Patriots, maybe the Eagles aren't in a hurry to get him back in . The interceptions are an obvious problem, but there aren't many quarterbacks with 300+ yard potential on the waiver wire. He's still available in 88% of Sportsline.com fantasy leagues. Vinnie Testaverde, Carolina - It looks like the Panthers have the technology to rebuild Testaverde one more time and send him out against the Fo...

Might the Packers keep only 2 quartebacks?
2007-08-22 17:57:00 Here's a novel idea."Given how badly quarterbacks Ingle Martin and Paul Thompson played during Tuesday's practice, maybe Ted Thompson should consider keeping only two quarterbacks to use the extra roster spot for a position with legitimate depth," offers Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.It's not such a bad idea given the there will be some positions where it will be hard to make some cuts. And there's always the risk. What if both Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers both get hurt like they did against the New England Patriots last year?If they decide to keep two quarterbacks, then it's a near certainty that they would keep an extra quarterback on the practice squad. That would probably be Paul Thompson seeing as he's a rookie.Of course, he can only play if he would be elevated to the 53 man roster. In an emergency situation, Carlyle Holiday would probably have to play quarterback for the Packers. As Demovsky notes, "Sure, it's a risky proposition given that the Packers los...
Preseason game two impressions
2007-08-19 16:09:00 Everyone was concerned about how the first string offense was going to fare after the disappointing performance against Pittsburgh. That Steelers game is now a distant memory after Brett Favre led the offense to an inspiring display versus the Seahawks. The passing game and the running game were clicking, and they didn't have a turnover. It was an A- performance if not a solid A.Could Atari Bigby be the next starting strong safety for the Packers? His two sacks and forced fumble along with a quarterback hurry were the most impressive. But maybe even better was that he didn't give up any long pass plays like he did against Pittsburgh one week earlier. The sack attack continued in much the same way it did against Pittsburgh. A.J. Hawk's manhandling of the fullback picking up the blitz was inspiring. Not to be outdone were Cullen Jenkins, Abdul Hodge, Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, Larry Birdine who also had sacks.Bubba Franks may have played the game of his life. It's too bad it had to come...
Position analysis: Quarterbacks
2007-08-17 17:31:00 Railbird Central will be doing a position by position analysis every day for the next nine days in the lead up to roster cutdowns. After seeing these players for the first three weeks of training camp or so, we now have a bit of an idea what the players are capable of doing. We'll examine what they offer to the team as well as their chances of making the 53 man roster. Today we'll start with the quarterbacks:Brett Favre - What more can be said of Brett Favre than what's already been said? He's a Super Bowl winning quarterback and the league's only three time MVP. His downside is that he's always thrown more interceptions than anyone would prefer, but the Packers have always been willing to take that chance due to his "home run hitting" capability. The biggest news is that head coach Mike McCarthy wants him to tone things down and work within the offense. It remains to be seen whether that's possible with the wild stallion that is Brett Favre.Aaron Rodgers - Rodgers is having ...
Starters will play 25-35 plays
2007-08-17 00:46:00 Fans will be able to see a little bit more of Brett Favre and the first string offense on Saturday when the Packers take on the Seattle Seahawks."The Packers' starters on offense and defense will play 25 to 35 snaps in Saturday night's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks at Lambeau Field, coach Mike McCarthy said after practice this morning," reports Tom Pelissero of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.That probably means into the second quarter. Expect Aaron Rodgers and company to take over before the second quarter is done.It looks like Brandon Miree and DeShawn Wynn still won't play Saturday.Welcome to the Railbird feed. Eat up.
Clowney and Martin state cases
2007-08-14 15:52:00 Neither David Clowney nor Ruvell Martin are assured of roster spots with the Green Bay Packers. Although they're making it tough for the Packers to cut them."Patrick Dendy had pretty good coverage, but rookie David Clowney used his blazing speed to make a fine over-the-shoulder catch from Aaron Rodgers," reports Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "Then Ruvell Martin went long to make a tough grab against clinging coverage by Jarrett Bush."It's imperative for Clowney to show he can be more than just a return man. But Martin could make the team based upon his height advantage.Welcome to the Railbird feed. Eat up.
Nnabuife picks off Rodgers
2007-08-14 14:52:00 In an otherwise non-descript camp for Alvin Nnabuife, the Green Bay Packers safety did his best on Monday to push for more playing time in his bid to make the roster."Little-known first-year cornerback Alvin Nnabuife made his first big play of camp when he intercepted a (Aaron) Rodgers pass deep downfield intended for Ruvell Martin," reports Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.Nnabuife has to be considered the safety least likely to make the team. After representing the Packers in NFL Europa, the team must regard him as worthy of wearing the green and gold, though. He could be a practice squad candidate, but it will be tough.Welcome to the Railbird feed. Eat up.
Offense struggle in blitz drill
2007-08-13 23:50:00 For as often as the Green Bay Packers practice against the blitz, you think they'd look a little better playing against it.At Monday's training camp practice, the quarterbacks' passes were off the mark, defensive linemen were in their face, and the receivers were dropping their passes."The offense struggled in a team blitz drill," reports Mike Vandermause of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "Aaron Rodgers nearly had a screen pass intercepted and a short time later missed badly on a screen pass intended for Corey White. Brett Favre would have been sacked in the pocket, but he unleashed a long pass anyway which was dropped by rookie tight end Clark Harris.""Later, Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila slapped the ball out of Favre's hand in the pocket. In a real game, it would have been ruled a sack and forced fumble," continues Vandermause.Packer fans are aching to hear, "Favre exploited the blitzing defense by finding the open receiver streaking down the seam."Welcome to the Railbird feed. Eat up.
Post-game impressions
2007-08-13 16:13:00 Here are a handful of impressions from Saturday's first preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers:Among the biggest criticisms from the game is that the first team offense basically stalled. It was only the first preseason game and not a lot of critque should be based upon three series, but there is cause for minor concern. Why didn't Brett Favre throw the ball downfield? Not a single pass from Favre was longer than five yards. The blitzing Pittsburgh defense certainly didn't allow Favre to sit back and scan the field for very long, but the blocking did a pretty good job of picking up the blitz on all but a play or two. On a blitz, there has to be a breakdown in coverage somewhere. And the Packers need to exploit that in the future.Aaron Rodgers looked good. He completed his passes for a high percentage, and he kept drives going. His twenty yard scramble was clutch. It's only one game, but hopefully there's plenty more where that came from.Rookie runnning back Brandon Jacks...
Maybe I'm Wrong About Aaron Rodgers
2007-08-13 15:11:00 I usually don't like to take away too much from the first preseason game, especially when a player is facing the opposition's second defense, but I was mildly impressed by Aaron Rodgers' performance in last night's 13-9 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rodgers looked like he was the real deal

Jones make push for No. 3 receiver
2007-08-13 05:12:00 Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver James Jones (pictured) all but sealed the envelope on the team's No. 3 wideout job."Rookie receiver James Jones caught six passes in the first half and showed why he's the early front-runner for the No. 3 receiving job," according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "Jones' longest reception was a 21-yarder on a crossing route, and he also had a 10-yarder that converted a third down."Jones trotted out onto the field with the first string offense ahead of former starter Robert Ferguson as the team's No. 3 wide receiver in effect proving the coaches' confidence in the rookie.Jones was a favorite target on backup quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and his six receptions led the team for the game.Photo credit: Juan Villa for The CollegianWelcome to the Railbird feed. Favre to play little Saturday, Thompson not at all
2007-08-10 19:27:00 Green Bay Packers star quarterback Brett Favre will start his team's first preseason game on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he reportedly won't see much action.According to the Associated Press, "(Packers head coach Mike) McCarthy recognizes that Favre needs to establish chemistry with younger players such as second-round running back Brandon Jackson and third-round receiver James Jones, but he doesn't want the three-time MVP to go overboard.""McCarthy said he anticipates the starters will play about 12 to 15 snaps Saturday, though some veterans could play less, including QB Brett Favre," writes Tom Pelissero of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "McCarthy said he wants to get backup Aaron Rodgers some action with the starters."I applaud McCarthy if he, indeed, prevents Favre from playing much on Saturday. During the first preseason game, Favre and the rest of the team's potential Pro Bowl players should barely play. They should, indeed, dress up and start and play a fe...
Rodgers practices as holder
2007-08-08 15:10:00 The Green Bay Packers may be looking to get backup quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the field somehow this season."For the second straight day, backup quarterback Aaron Rodgers took some reps as a holder on field goals," notes Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "Previously, Ryan and receiver Ruvell Martin had handled the holding duties."Not a bad idea. Ryan did a good job last year. But if there's a bad snap or an intentional fake, I'd rather have the ball in the hands of a quarterback than the hands of a punter.
Thompson climbs ladder
2007-08-08 02:22:00 Ingle Martin's job could be in jeopardy. Last year's No. 3 quarterback is being pushed by undrafted rookie Paul Thompson (pictured)."Rookie Paul Thompson, splitting time with Ingle Martin as the second-team quarterback, made up for a fumbled snap on his first play by delivering a beautiful touchdown throw to Chris Francies," reports Tom Pelissero of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "Frank Walker had blanket coverage on Francies, but Thompson fit the pass through a tiny window. He also had a nice touch pass to Donald Lee on a first-and-goal inside the 5-yard line."It's hard to say whether Thompson has actually pulled even with Martin, or Pelissero is merely noting that the two are simply both playing a backup role to Aaron Rodgers on a morning that Brett Favre is excused from practice.A check of the team's depth chart at the Packers' official website still has Martin on top, but maybe not for long.Thompson has more agility than any quarterback on the roster, and that could be valuab...
Quarterbacks continue blistering pace
2007-08-08 01:57:00 The recap of Monday's practice included the praise of Brett Favre and his quarterback company for their general overall performance and their high completion rate. The Packers were without Favre on Tuesday morning, but his backups picked up right where they left off."Rodgers 16-for-20; Martin 4-for-4; Thompson 3-for-3" are the stats tallied by the Green Bay Press-Gazette.Regular season statistics like those are probable cause for the Pro Bowl.
Favre's confidence shines through
2007-08-07 15:59:00 Any Green Bay Packers fan has to be encouraged by the early performance of Brett Favre, in particular, during training camp, and with the quarterbacks in general. Take Monday's practice for instance.According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, "Your passing stats (7-on-7 in parentheses): Brett Favre 22-for-29 (6-for-10); Rodgers 6-for-7 (12-for-21); Ingle Martin 5-for-7, INT (1-for-2); and Paul Thompson 1-for-1 (1-for-1)."Can Favre possibly do any better? The high completion percentage is outstanding if you consider both Monday's practice and this past Saturday's scrimmage. This is an especially good sign considering Favre's low completion rate of 55% during the 2006 regular season.
Werner struggles in debut
2007-08-03 13:54:00 New tight end and Wisconsin native Joe Werner had a rough first training camp practice with the Green Bay Packers on Thursday."Newly signed tight end Joe Werner, who hasn't played football since high school, had a rough time in the night practice," reports Tom Pelissero of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "The former UW-La Crosse basketball star was stripped in a routine ball-security drill, dropped three consecutive balls from a Jugs machine and couldn't handle an Aaron Rodgers pass during a rare appearance in a team drill."I can't even imagine the learning curve Werner must be suffering through. To not even play football and then be expected to perform at a professional level must be excruciatingly hard.
Jones gets the press on his side
2007-08-01 16:08:00 We've reported all about the great play of Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver James Jones. He's turning heads left and right all throughout training camp thus far.The Wisconsin daily newspapers got on board today with feature articles on Jones."But the Packers saw in his 70 catches in his final season at San Jose State a player similar to Arizona's Anquan Boldin," writes Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "Boldin is only slightly bigger than Jones (6-05/8 but 216 pounds) and ran a 4.73-second 40 coming out of Florida State, but as a second-round draft pick caught 101 passes as a rookie and has 342 receptions in four seasons in the NFL."That's some heady praise, folks. As for his play on the field, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel takes over."On Tuesday morning, Jones scored two touchdowns in an extended red-zone team segment," reports Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "The Packers ranked 31st in red-zone efficiency a year ago. At 6 feet ½ inch and 209 po...
Packers pipe in crowd noise
2007-08-01 15:19:00 Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is already game planning for a couple loud stadiums the Packers will be playing at this season."During a scripted team drill in the morning, loudspeakers placed on the field were blaring artificial crowd noise, forcing the quarterbacks to use hand gestures in some instances to relay signals to the receivers," reports Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.McCarthy made reference to six back to back road games this season, and the team getting used to the silent count as reasons for the artificial crowd noise."It had little impact on quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers, Ingle Martin and Paul Thompson, who were a combined 18-for-26 over two periods," reports the Green Bay Press-Gazette's Tom Pelissero.
Jones continues ascent
2007-08-01 05:32:00 Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver James Jones continues to prove himself ever since the team opened training camp. Not a practice has gone by without Jones doing something good if not spectacular, and Tuesday was no exception"Two great catches by rookie receiver James Jones. First, he elevated over Patrick Dendy for a ball from Aaron Rodgers in the front right corner of the end zone. Then, he fully extended to haul in a high Paul Thompson pass near the back of the end zone," reports Tom Pelissero of the Green Bay Press-Gazette during the morning practice.Check out the YouTube highlights of Jones below for further confirmation of his impending greatness. Or so Packer fans hope.
Hawk displays Nitschke-esque play
2007-07-31 16:55:00 Green Bay Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk has been blowing things up at the team's training camp."I'm looking for good things ? no, great things ? from A.J. We all are," says Packers director of pro personnel Reggie McKenzie."The sky's the limit for him," says Packers cornerback Charles Woodson. And Monday was a banner day for Hawk who looks like he's on the verge of becoming the NFL's next big thing. The Green Bay Press-Gazette has a great and descriptive article on Hawk in Tuesday's edition that goes into detail about Hawk's play. It's something any railbird would love:On one play, quarterback Aaron Rodgers, subbing with the starting offense for the absent Brett Favre, was chased out of the pocket to his right and tried to throw the ball away into the ground near the line of scrimmage. Hawk made a diving play on the ball. Rodgers said the ball clearly hit the ground, but Hawk thought differently, and several defensive coaches reacted like they thought it was an interception, al...
Blackmon finally makes an impression
2007-07-30 14:56:00 Good news for Green Bay Packers cornerback Will Blackmon who lately seems to be getting negative press all the time."Will Blackmon made a spectacular interception of an Aaron Rodgers pass when he stole the ball out of receiver Greg Jennnigs' hands. It was the second interception of the night for Rodgers, who was also picked off by cornerback Jarrett Bush," reports Mike Vandermause of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.For the sake of both Packers fans and for Blackmon, himself, keep it up.
Favre misses practice due to family death
2007-07-30 00:20:00 Brett Favre missed the Green Bay Packers' morning practice on Sunday while making arrangements to attend a family funeral and will probably miss one or two more later in the week to attend it."Rocky Byrd, the second husband of Favre?s mother-in-law, died of a heart attack on Saturday in Mississippi. Rocky lived on Brett and Deanna Favre?s estate in Hattiesburg, Miss., with Deanna?s mother, Ann Byrd," reports Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.When exactly Favre will be missing practice is not yet known."The logistics and when he?s going to be here and when he?s not going to be here, I don?t know if we?re there yet,? General Manager Ted Thompson told the Green Bay Press-Gazette Sunday morning.Favre was scheduled to participate in practice Sunday morning had the difficulties not popped up.It's a good thing for Packer fans that Favre's primary backup, Aaron Rodgers, is playing to good reviews so far this training camp."It was only a blitz drill in the second practice of t...
Random boners
2007-07-29 16:01:00 There were plenty of mistakes and lapses in concentration at the first training camp practice for the Green Bay Packers. Among the most obvious according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette's Tom Pelissero:CB Will Blackmon had a chance for the day's only interception, but Ingle Martin's errant pass bounced off his chest.Shaun Bodiford looked about as bad as any pro receiver possibly could while trying to adjust to an Aaron Rodgers pass during 7-on-7. S Marquand Manuel appeared to be at fault for a coverage breakdown that left WR Robert Ferguson wide open down the right sideline during the special-category period. QB Brett Favre underthrew Ferguson so badly, though, that Ferguson had no chance to come back and make the catch. In addition to (running back Brandon) Jackson's two drops in team periods, rookie TE Clark Harris dropped a pass down the seam; RB Vernand Morency fumbled; and Charlie Peprah stripped WR Carlton Brewster after a catch.Perhaps most surprisingly, Bodiford didn't ev...
Trade proposal: Aaron Rodgers for Alge Crumpler
2007-07-27 16:22:00 The Atlanta Falcons need a quarterback badly. Beyond badly. With the Michael Vick saga going on, Joey Harrington is going to be their starter for crying out loud. And guess what? The Green Bay Packers have an expendable quarterback on their roster who just so happens to have first round talent.Alge Crumpler (pictured) would, no doubt, command a lot of value in return. An unproven quarterback alone probably wouldn't cut it.With Brett Favre in the twilight of his career, the Packers have to win now. Why not make a blockbuster deal in order to get some offensive firepower? The Packers could get Alge Crumpler, a four time Pro Bowl tight end.In return the Falcons could get Rodgers to fill their quarterback need. They could get Donald Lee, a serviceable tight end to replace Crumpler. And if that isn't enough, the Packers could afford to give up as high as a second round draft choice. It seems fair enough. The Packers lose a quarterback who doesn't play, but has tons of potential. The Pack...
You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here
2007-07-26 15:21:00 Linebacker Ben Taylor and quarterback Todd Bouman are the last of Green Bay's unrestrictive free agents to sign a contract, and apparently they won't with Packers."According to (Packers general manager Ted) Thompson, the Packers have no plans now to bring back either player," reports Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. It's amazing how far Taylor has fallen. Last year when the Packers signed him, it was thought he might compete for a starting job at strong side linebacker. It's understandable the Packers won't bring back Bouman. They have younger, capable players to develop at the position in Aaron Rodgers, Ingle Martin and Paul Thompson.
Position by position analysis
2007-07-23 18:53:00 As you get ready for training camp, the local Wisconsin daily newspapers are ready to help you out.Today the Green Bay Press-Gazette fills you in at the quarterback position with a focus on the future of Aaron Rodgers.Meanwhile, the Wisconsin State Journal takes a look at the tight ends with an emphasis on the disappointing 2006 season turned in by Bubba Franks.Enjoy.
Favre receives criticism
2007-07-16 16:02:00 In the days leading up to the start of NFL training camps around the country, many websites are ranking position units around the league and Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre is receiving a lot of criticism.Fox Sports ranks the Packers as the NFL's 16th best quarterback unit in the NFL including backups Aaron Rodgers, Ingle Martin and Paul Thompson. However, writer Mike Tanier seems to be a little uninformed on one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history.According to Tanier, "You know when you are over the hill: it's when your mind makes a promise that your body can't fill. Favre sees the coverage converging, thinks back to 1996, and truly believes he can rifle the ball to his receiver before the safeties arrive. Unfortunately, his release is a bit slower and his fastball a few degrees cooler, so 1990s touchdowns have become new millennium interceptions."It's hard to gauge whether Tanier has actually watched the Packers lately. Are his opinions based purely upon conjectu...
Packers release Babb
2007-06-23 15:37:00 The Green Bay Packers released quarterback Jerry Babb (pictured) on Friday, an undrafted free agent rookie from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.Despite the fact that the move leaves the Packers with only four quarterbacks heading into training camp, the move was not exactly a burden for the team. Babb had more collegiate interceptions than touchdowns while playing for the Cajuns. The Packers should have sufficient depth at quarterback barring any injuries. Behind starter Brett Favre are former first round pick Aaron Rodgers, last year's number three quarterback Ingle Martin, and newly signed undrafted free agent rookie Paul Thompson of Oklahoma (who apparently looked good at the OTA practices during June).Babb may have to go the route of the Arena League or the Canadian Football League to get some more experience before making his way to the NFL.Photo credit: Ragincajuns.com
Who's missing?
2007-06-08 13:28:00 There were some absences from OTA workouts yesterday for the Green Bay Packers.Of course, cornerback Charles Woodson was, again, gone. He appears to be the only player not committed to attending any OTA practices."Charles Woodson, the Packers' other starting cornerback, missed the first six practices, and there's no indication he plans on showing up for any of the remaining workouts. Patrick Dendy worked as the starter in his place Thursday," reports Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was missing from practice to attend his brother's graduation back in California."Right tackle Mark Tauscher wasn't at practice because of a death in the family. Tony Moll replaced him at right tackle with the No. 1 offense," according to Dougherty.
Favre & Rodgers recovering well
2007-06-01 04:10:00 Green Bay Packer quarterbacks Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers must be recovering nicely from their injuries. Both participated in 11-on-11 drills during Thursday's OTAs while previously being limited to 7-on-7 drills during the previous minicamp."Favre seemed to have more zip on his passes than in the mandatory minicamp earlier this month. With Favre and Rodgers fully participating, Jerry Babb and Paul Thompson were limited to individual work," reports Tom Pelissero of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.According to Pelissero's statistics, Favre was 10 of 18 on the day with an interception while Rodgers was 10 of 17.
OTAs are underway
2007-05-31 13:19:00 On Wednesday, the Green Bay Packers had their first Organized Team Activity (OTA) practice of the year in which they'll work on installing their offensive and defensive schemes for the 2007 season. Thursday will mark the first of four practices that will be open to the public. So get ready fans! It's railbird season!First round draft pick Justin Harrell is expected to see his first extended practice time after recovering from a torn biceps last season in college."How much quarterback Aaron Rodgers (foot) will be allowed to participate also will be an area of interest," writes Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Injury update
2007-05-18 13:41:00 A handful of players won't be participating in minicamp practices this weekend for the Green Bay Packers as they recover from either offseason surgery or injuries sustained last season.According to Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, "Among other players who might not practice or will take part in limited drills are defensive end Aaron Kampman, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on a knee this offseason; backup quarterback Aaron Rodgers (broken foot), receiver Robert Ferguson (mid-foot - pictured), linebacker Abdul Hodge (knee) and running back Arliss Beach (foot)."Without either Brandon Jackson or Arliss Beach participating in minicamp, rookie DeShawn Wynn should get plenty of repetitions as he fights Vernand Morency, Noah Herron, and P.J. Pope for playing time."McCarthy said offensive lineman Kevin Barry (quadriceps) probably won't be ready to practice, and safety Marviel Underwood won't practice until training camp. Underwood is coming back from knee-reconstruction ...
Favre will attend minicap but won't participate
2007-05-07 13:27:00 Veteran quarterback Brett Favre is expected to attend the Green Bay Packers' first mandatory offseason minicamp in less than two weeks, but isn't expected to participate due to offseason ankle surgery. The same goes for top backup Aaron Rodgers."Backup Aaron Rodgers has been in Green Bay for most of the offseason workout program that began March 19, but he has been limited while recovering from surgery to repair the fifth metatarsal in his left foot. Rodgers broke the bone while playing in relief of Favre during the Nov. 19 blowout loss to the New England Patriots. He spent six weeks on crutches," reports Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.That means plenty of playing time for no. 3 man Ingle Martin."That should mean a lot of work for second-year quarterback Ingle Martin, not only in the next minicamp but during the organized team activities in June," says Demovsky. This could also mean good news for rookie quarterback John Stocco of Wisconsin who was only invited to join t...
Packers spread the word about education
2007-05-02 13:19:00 Before the stop in Superior on their Tailgate Tour of the state of Wisconsin, the Green Bay Packers paid a visit to Hawthorne Hills Elementary School in Wausau.Aaron Rodgers, Nick Barnett, and Mark Tauscher gave a speech about the importance of school and also signed some autographs.""They're all excited when you give them an autograph. I saw a kid skip away today. He's just as happy as can be. That childlike awe when they see somebody is the same thing I had as a kid," says Green Bay Packer Aaron Rodgers as quoted on Wausau's WAOW News 9 website. |
