Today and sadly only for those in Europe (I?m guessing); Abarth are tuning up the all new retro styled Fiat 500.Due to be unveiled at the up coming Geneva Motor Show, The Fiat 500 Abarth will pack a turbocharged version of Fiat's 1.4-litre FIRE, with maximum horsepower at 5000RPM and a 0-62mph of around 8.2 seconds. The Fiat 500 Abarth has been slightly modified with the nose pushed forward to accommodate the turbocharger and its two intercoolers. 2008-02-19 09:04:00 Coinciding with the reveal of the all-new Abarth 500 hot hatch, Fiat has officially opened a new design studio and workshop dedicated to the revived performance line within the confines of its Mirafiori complex. Abarth is a motorsport, design and manufacturing company and home of Fiat?s acclaimed Abarth Racing Team. The new design center consists of a 23,000 square metre building housing 100 employees with different divisions for competition cars, prototype development, cars derived from standard production models and a separate racing department. The entire operation is contained within the one area, including technical offices, design offices and marketing, sales and finance offices. To show off the brand?s heritage and pedigree, the entrance hall holds a ?wall of fame? of sorts, showing famous victories and various items of importance from Abarth?s history. Though one of our readers sent us five images of the 500 Abarth on Sunday , Fiat requested that we remove those photos; so unfortunately, this is the only picture we can show you for now. As anticipated, the Italian carmaker revealed that the 500 Abarth will be powered by Fiat’s new Fire 1.4-liter 16v petrol Turbo engine, which delivers a maximum of 135 bhp at 5,500 rpm and peak torque of 206 Nm at 3,000 rpm in ‘Sport’ mode (in ‘Normal’ mode, torque is reduced to 180 Nm at 2,500 rpm). Interestingly, Abarth has also equipped the 500 with an electronic Torque Transfer Control system (TTC) that helps eliminate torque steer.

2008-02-17 23:59:00 Just as we where getting ready to call it a day, a reader of ours dropped us an e-mail that included the first official images of the all-new Fiat 500 Abarth that?s set to be unveiled in Geneva next month. If you liked the standard 500?s appearance then you?re definitely going to fall in love with the 500 Abarth. The sport version of Fiat?s hugely popular minicar has been fitted with an aggressive bodykit that included new bumpers, side skirts, a rear diffuser, wider fenders that house larger alloy rims, a roof spoiler, red mirror caps and Abarth decals. Add the twin exhaust outlets in the rear and this is one 500 that you won?t call cute. There are no images of the interior, but it apparent from the ghost sketches that Abarth has equipped the sporty 500 with a pair of red bucket seats. Sorry to say, we don?t have any technical details in our hands yet, but we?re guessing that the 500 Abarth will be equipped with Fiat?s 1.4-liter turbocharged engine developing between 120 and 150 HP.
