I have always felt sorry for them since I was a kid because of how we invaded their country and treated them, but only until a few years ago I never knew we were stealing their kids. It's not exactly something they taught you in school history lessons!What is worse is that, this is pretty recent, Aborigines my age and even younger were stolen from their families up until the mid 70's, I find that all very barbaric and disgusting. On Australia Day on Saturday, Rudd named race relations between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians as one of the nation's great challenges. He told his guests at the Lodge on Saturday night he wanted the country’s indigenous people to be "full participants" in society, rather than marginalised Australians, News Ltd reports. While he has ruled out paying compensation to Aboriginal people who were removed from their families as part of the stolen generation, moves are underway for the "sorry" declaration to come on February 12 when new MPs formally take their seats in parliament. 2007-11-26 20:24:00 I was greatly encouraged by this story. I hope that we can follow suit in America as well. Repentance is such an important element to the kingdom of God. Especially repentance toward the reconciliation of relationships. I know that many in the American church have actively sought reconciliation with the remaining Native American tribes and have done so in a spirit of humility and repentance. I'm grateful for that, but I would like to see a public acknowledgment of the historical realities. That takes a lot of courage, and I respect the new Australian administration for their efforts.

In a recent comments thread on this blog, two commenters, one a resident of Australia and another who just spent three months there, argued that there were no Aborigine gangs in Australia.However, I had this photo in my files from a recent web story by an Australian paper about an Aborigine gang in the far north of Australia. I forget the name of the gang now. They were warring with another street gang in a small Aborigine settlement and this war had left a number dead and injured, and was destroying the town.Maybe someone can find the link for me, but I'm too tired right now. After the male peak, there is a long slow decline down to some pretty low levels.
