Why was absinthe banned?
2008-05-20 15:56:00 Why was absinthe banned? This is a question that I get asked all the time. My stock answer is that nobody knows for sure and that the answer varies from country to country. Here are some theories on why absinthe was banned in France: 1. Before absinthe peaked in popularity, daily production levels were about 90 gallons a day. When it peaked, it shot up to 5,000 gallons a day. Distilleries had trouble meeting demand as some unsavory distillers cut corners and used low-grade alcohol that created health concerns. read more

MARILYN MANSON'S OWN ABSINTHE BRAND
2008-05-04 22:42:00 Gender bender singer Marilyn Manson's brand of absinthe is so strong, that his own girlfriend avoids drinking it at all costs. Star Evan Rachel Wood celebrated her 20th birthday with the rock star by taking shots of Manson's personal brand called Mansinthe, his own version of the beverage that was banned in the United States until last year. She says, "For my birthday, I did one shot to try it, and that was it. I was drunk immediately. "Being who he is, Manson wanted to make it as strong as it could possibly be, so it's got the highest amount of wormwood that you can have legally. One shot of it, and you're out for the night. Three shots of it, and you're dead."I think he agrees with me; you can't drink Mansinthe every day."

Absinthe Original Liquor Online Store
2008-02-20 00:00:00 Have you ever heard absinthe alcohol before? Well if not, you are missing a lot of things. So let me take you to a tour what really absinthe is. The absinthe alcohol is an alcohol made from a number of different herbs, most notably wormwood Artemisia absinthium . French doctor Pierre Ordinaire is living in Covet, and claims to have invented an intoxicating anise-flavored recipe that he markets as an all-purpose tonic. The first big break into the mainstream when Dr. Ordinaire sells the recipe to the entrepreneurial Dubied-Pernod family, which founds the first absinthe distillery in Covet, and goes on to open the fabulously successful Maison Pernod Fils distillery in France. The concept of absinthe slowly develops from referring to the benevolent little spirit of good health to the seductive green goddess of dreams, visions and artistic inspiration. Its totally fantastic drink!Absinthe Original is the only website liquor store that is offering a wide selection of varieties of Czech ...

Absinthe, the crazy drink
2008-01-14 11:34:00 Today we are going to talk about Absinthe because somehow it was part of French history through artists and Parisian intellectuals ... no other drinks have had a such romantic story and have been prohibited with so much fervor. From ancient times until the 19th century, Artemisia Absinthium is an ingredient in many medicines. Also vermifuge and antiseptic, its applications are many. This drug use could go on much longer if one day, a strange encounter was made in Switzerland at the end of the 18th century. An adjutant bought the formula from a doctor. He went into partnership with his son-in-law Henri Louis Pernod who will forever be associated with absinthe. For 30 years, absinthe remains a regional drink until the conquest of Algeria by France. Effective against malaria and dysentery, absinthe becomes popular with soldiers. When they return from Algeria, everyone starts to enjoy the drink. The drink also moved across France for more than half a century, with its ritual of the spoon. In ...

Absinthe
2008-01-10 18:58:00 This article was sponsored by: Buy Absinthe Alcohol.com I received an email about a few months ago describing a drink called “The Green Fairy.†Curious, I opened the email and it was about a liquor called Absinthe. Honestly, I have never heard about this drink and had no idea what it was. So, I thought that others may have not heard of this and thought I would share some info about it. According to Wikipedia, Absinthe is a distilled, highly alcoholic (usually 68 to 80 percent) anise-flavored spirit derived from herbs including the flowers and leaves of the medicinal plant Artemisia absinthium, also called Grand Wormwood or Absinth Wormwood. Absinthe is typically green (either naturally or with added color) or clear and is often referred to as la Fée Verte (’The Green Fairy’). Although it is sometimes mistakenly called a liqueur, absinthe is not bottled with added sugar and is therefore classified as a liquor or spirit. Absinthe is uncommon among spirits in that it is b...

WHO NEEDS ABSiNTHE?
2007-12-18 01:47:00 ONE OF MY PET PEEVES ABOUT ROCK CONCERTS is that unless you?re a dyed-in-the-wool fan, or the artist?s music is just so ubiquitous, you can?t understand most of the words. And so it went with Tori Amos last night at the state-of-the-art Nokia theatre. It was the final tour in her 48-date run, sold out to a devoted audience who hung upon her every vowel. I?ve liked Tori ever since Joe Whitmore played Jackie?s Strength for me while burning the midnight oil at HERO back in 2000. I then got a glimpse of a rougher diamond at her joint tour with Alanis Morrisette. This summer, I set her cover of ?Smells Like Teen Spirit? with a video I made of Bronson confronting a childhood demon. I appreciate her artistry, her gorgeous, shimmering intonation, and let?s face it: she?s untouchable on the piano. Her performance last night of Silent All These Years was chilling, gripping, otherworldly. So there I sat, in this gorgeous theatre with impeccable acoustics, unable to understand nine out of every...

2007-12-17 23:46:00 One of our favorite men's stores, Bblessing, just launched their brand-spanking new home line. These graphic absinthe spoons—the first pieces in the line—were designed by Surface to Air's Daniel Jackson in keeping with the store's interior, which was "very much inspired by my own abstraction of a fin de siècle Absinthe bar." For those unfamiliar with the absinthiana, the ritual of drinking the famed, mind-bending spirit, the spoons are used to dissolve a sugar cube in the drink to lessen its bitterness. Alameda distiller helps make absinthe legitimate again
2007-12-06 05:44:00 It was the drink of choice for 19th century painters, poets and writers. Vincent van Gogh sliced off his ear while sipping it, Edgar Degas and Pablo Picasso painted it, French poet Paul Verlaine cursed it as he lay dying in his bed. For nearly 100 years, the United States and many other nations banned it. Absinthe. "It leads straight to the madhouse or the courthouse," declared Henri Schmidt, a French druggist urging his own countrymen to outlaw the green liquid in the early 1900s, which they did.
