Katie Couric Assumes The Position
2007-12-11 21:07:00 CBS head Les Moonves appears to be retreating from his pronouncement that the "Voice Of God!" Cronkite type network news anchor is "dead." Katie Couric's getting rebranded and cloaked in Cronkite! Moonves is abandoning his attempts to crawl up the tight derrieres of young viewers who don't give a fig about evening network newscasts. Experience You Can Trust," under a picture of Ms. Couric, was the slogan in an ad for the CBS Evening News that ran in USA Today last week. The ad also used quotes from various newspaper and online reviews to talk about the "impressive" and "poignant" reporting on the newscast. CBS said the ad is part of the network's regular promotion of the program. Hummer Bummer
2007-10-29 15:49:00 GM is attempting to reinvent the Hummer by feel-good stories of Hummer heroism. TV spots. Print. And "Hummer Helps that will encourage owners to send in stories and photos that illustrate how they assisted the needy with their SUVs." Ad AgeAnyone persuaded will end up on the needy dole as gas prices escalate through the roof. I confess I coveted a Hummer. Since I've been accused of having more testosterone than most men, I figured it was a logical extension of my macho self. After I got into a major accident in my Mini Cooper (it skidded across a mountain road like a Dodgem car and probably saved my life the day before Thanksgiving last year), I was freaked about driving the Mini. That lasted about six months.

Porsche's New Ad Agency
2007-09-06 04:52:00 German automaker Porsche recently announced that it has picked Cramer-Krasselt of Chicago as its new creative arm. The said firm will handle Porsche's media buying which is part of the automaker's United States account. The partnership may see a shift in Porsche's approach to marketing their vehicles. Although I think Porsche is one of only handful automakers that don't need any advertising, it is still a vital part of the automaker's operations.David Pryor, the vice president of marketing of Porsche Cars North America, said: "Our decision to go with Cramer-Krasselt was based on seeking new and innovative approaches to marketing our unique products to a difficult-to-reach audience. Cramer-Krasselt took a fresh approach to targeting these affluent, advertising-averse consumers. Their team very quickly showed a tremendous passion and understanding of our business and developed a compelling, evolutionary expression of our brand."Before Cramer-Krasselt was chosen by the automaker...

ad age gets closer to the world of blogs
2007-07-24 13:19:00 As the blog world fragments into more and more specialized universes, there comes a time when each of these universes has enough critical mass to matter. The challenge is to monitor, track and direct people to relevant places within these worlds. For some time, Todd And has been the person collating and monitoring that information for the marketing space. Todd’s “Power 150” has become the “Billboard Chart” for marketing bloggers.Yesterday, Todd announced that he was joining forces with Advertising Age . The ad trade giant will post the listing and perhaps even start using some of the bloggers featured on the list as sources for opinions and news. It’s another example that shows how rapidly the walls are coming down between big media and the world of blogs. Posted by Ed Cotton

Saudi Royals Mask A Jihad Agenda
2007-04-24 01:48:00 Keeping Saudi Arabia's royal family safe from radical Islamists is the West's strategic concern and delusion. Fictional Ad Agency Aims to Sell Out the Globe
2007-03-09 19:56:00 Image Intro “Our mission is simple: to commodify every aspect of our culture.” - Brandon You, Executive PubPartout Monday night, Montreal played host to another performance by the culture jammers of überculture collective Concordia and Optative Theatrical Laboratories. This time around we targeted a city council meeting in the Plateau, where überculture's own Erik Chevrier presented a petition calling for a ban on ad-trucks from the streets of Montreal. With a banner, flyers, and even a catchy little chant, (Ad trucks, they’re our right! We want more and we will fight!) we shivered outside of Maison de la culture du Plateau-Mont-Royal for about an hour preaching the blessings of a branded culture as the attendees of the meeting trickled into the building. Playing the roles of executives and mail clerks of the fictional ad company, PubPartout, we educated all who walked by about the benefits of branding everything. What better way to se...

Traditional ad agencies ill suited for New Marketing needs
2006-12-16 01:24:01 A study commissioned by Sapient has revealed that only one in every 10 expects to partner with traditional agencies for their online marketing The respondents believed that traditional advertising firms had difficulty thinking beyond traditional print and TV media models, which, according to the respondents, were `no longer effective particularly because consumers are able to access information online and are able to influence one another primarily through digital channels. A majority of senior marketing executives, however, showed strong preference for blended firms — firms with roots in technology, with creative and traditional print expertise. CMOs now view strategy and innovation as a top factor in hiring a marketing agency. Fewer than 10 percent of those polled say they seek to partner with large advertising agencies for their online marketing. Instead, the majority show a strong preference for blended firms - those with roots in technology that can also offer creati...
