Adam Loewen Now Part of The Blue Jays...
2008-10-25 21:49:00
I seriously thought that Adam Loewen would resign with Baltimore; however, things have changed as he was put on waivers a few days ago.Now he's part of the Toronto Blue Jays. TORONTO (AP) -- The Toronto Blue Jays acquired two of the top four picks in the 2002 draft on Friday, signing converted pitcher Adam Loewen to a minor league contract and claiming right-hander Bryan Bullington off waivers.Bullington was selected by Pittsburgh with the top overall selection and Loewen was taken fourth by the Baltimore Orioles. Neither player has panned out so far professionally.Baltimore released Loewen on Monday, but had hoped to re-sign him to a minor league deal. Loewen, a native of Surrey, British Columbia, acknowledged leaving the Orioles was "extremely difficult," but said the chance to join Toronto was too good to pass up."I grew up watching the Blue Jays and was a huge fan all my life," he said. "This is a great opportunity. I'm really excited to get going."Loewen's pitching career en...
O's Make Moves; Release Adam Loewen
2008-10-21 17:13:00
If you all have not heard, the Orioles made a series of moves Monday afternoon, the biggest being the release of Adam Loewen. The Orioles conducted some offseason housekeeping on Monday when they released former first-round Draft pick Adam Loewen and outrighted five players to Triple-A Norfolk. Loewen, who has retired as a pitcher due to recurring elbow injuries, is attempting to reignite his career as a position player, and he likely will ink a Minor League contract with the team some time soon.Loewen missed virtually all of the 2007 season with a stress fracture in his left elbow, an injury that took an operation to repair. The southpaw went through all the requisite rehabilitation, but he suffered the same injury last season and was told it would take 18 months to recover from another surgery, a realization that spurred him to try his hand at hitting. In addition to the Loewen move, Baltimore outrighted pitchers Randor Bierd and Rocky Cherry, infielder Brando Fahey, outfielder Jeff...
About Last Night: O's Lose to Twins, Draft, Adam Loewen

The seemingly upward climb of Daniel Cabrera hit a little bump in the road as Baltimore lost to Minnesota, 7-5, last night in Minneapolis. Despite leading for much of the first half of the game, the Daniel of old returned in the fifth and sixth inning as the Twins scored four runs combined and the Orioles were left to lick their wounds. Daniel Cabrera (5-2) took the loss for the O's, allowing six runs on eight hits over six frames. Baltimore's offense was able to knock out Kevin Slowey, the Minnesota starter, out of the game; however, they could not capitalize on a multitude of scoring opportunities. Joe Mauer homered and drove in three runs, helping Boof Bonser get a win out of the bullpen on Wednesday night.Kevin Millar and Melvin Mora each hit solo home runs for the Orioles, who have dropped five of their last seven contests. Brian Roberts went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored, while Nick Markakis had two hits and one RBI.***The 2008 MLB draft is upon us, and while it is k...

Adam Loewen On The 15-Day DL
2008-04-25 20:45:00
It sucks for the big kid; however, one could tell something was really off with him. After seeing him labor yesterday, it was not good. It's too bad that he might have another setback, and I would not be surprised if it's related to his arm problems in 2007. For the short-term, the loss may not eally impact the Orioles that much; however, long term, the loss of a youngster who has had flashes of brillance, but has struggled to maintain some consistency may be the question. From the Baltimore Sun: "The Orioles announced today that they have placed left-handed pitcher Adam Loewen on the 15-day disabled list with left elbow soreness. Infielder Eider Torres was called up from Triple-A Norfolk to fill Loewen's spot on the roster.Loewen, a 24-year-old left-hander who gave up five earned runs and lasted just 2 2/3 innings in the Orioles' 8-7 victory over the Seattle Mariners last night, acknowledged after the game what some of his teammates had suspected while watching him labor through...

LHP Adam Loewen, now healthy, agrees to 1-year deal with Orioles

Adam Loewen and the Baltimore Orioles agreed to a one-year contract Friday. The left-hander will receive $816,000 if he spends the entire season in the majors - the maximum 20 percent cut from the $1.02 million he made last year. He will get $663,000 if he’s sent to the minors. Loewen made the rotation out of spring ...

Well, the Orioles for one day can feel good about themselves! Anyhow, after a prolonged losing streak, the team finally hit pay dirt as Nick Markakis singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning, giving the Orioles a 3-2 a dramatic comeback victory over the Indians. The Orioles offense was once again pretty lackluster, but things came together at the right time. The starter for the Orioles, Erik Bedard, went 6 innings, struck out 4, and had a rough 5th inning where he gave up a two-run homer to David Dellucci. Bedard has been a fighter all this year on the mound, but he has given up 7 home runs already which would be a cause for concern for me; however, I gather he?ll get himself together. Paul Byrd, starter for the Indians, pitched a valiant 6 2/3 innings, but got the no-decision. Chad Bradford and John Parrish held the game in check for the Orioles, and Chris Ray pitched 2 innings for the win. Nick Markakis drove in 2 runs for the Orioles, includin...

Since being drafted fourth overall in 2002, twenty-three-year-old Adam Loewen has always been highly-touted within the Baltimore organization. He has a slider, a split-finger, change-up, curveball, and a low-90s fastball but has been known to rear back and hit as high as 96 mph when necessary. Last year as a ...

Adam Loewen - Breakout Season?      A few months back, the three usual suspects from this site selected our Canadian born most valuable pitcher. The selections were Jeff Francis, Eric Bedard, and Adam Loewen. Adam Loewen? 5.37 ERA, 1.54 Whip Adam Loewen as the best pitcher from Canada? Ok, maybe it?s a little far-fetched. Yet I?m going ...
