2009-03-27 17:53:00 The perils of blogging when exhausted: part of the point of mentioning Beyond Failure in the last post was to note that apparently some time in the past there was yet ANOTHER Groundwork, down here in Atlanta. I haven't downloaded that particular comp yet to give them a listen, but I will this weekend. Perhaps at some point, every state had their own Groundwork?

Bye Bye Bailout, for Now (Addendum And Bump)
2008-12-12 14:56:00 The Wall Street Journal: WASHINGTON – A frantic, last-ditch attempt to forge a relief package for the auto industry collapsed in the U.S. Senate, dealing a giant blow to the immediate hopes of the Big Three. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada suggested the $14 billion wouldn’t be revisited until January. “It’s over with,” he said. The talks, which appeared close to a deal several times, broke off due to a sharp partisan dispute over the wages paid to workers at the manufacturing giants. General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC, which have said they can’t last the year without federal aid, both hope the White House will now relent and allow the Treasury to provide emergency loans from the $700 billion Wall Street fund, people familiar with the matter said. Mr. Reid also urged that option. Won’t last until the end of the year? Why? Hold ‘da phone. Bruce over at Q&O points up an article at Forbes: It seems that the stench is fin...

Addendum for Avvo?s Defective & Biased Lawyer Rating System
2008-07-17 16:13:00 As an addendum to my last post about Avvo, check out the following: Besides taking an extraordinary amount of time to complete a profile, and besides not being able to cancel an account (i.e., “unclaim” a profile), I’ve discovered another issue with Avvo’s online lawyer rating system. When a lawyer is in the back-end of the platform, ...

Bibble Addendum? and RawShooter Premium
2008-04-28 17:48:00 Well, Bibble's two week trial ran out this morning. I miss it already.I figured a few more things out about the program since my review. First, I think you can tell the program to sharpen/reduce noise in downsampled images using Batch Settings->Force Processing Size/Quality (inside the Image Settings box, see the help page). I didn't have a chance to fully test it, but I'm pretty sure it works.Aside from that, I've been digging a bit further into image settings storage, which was an (unvoiced) concern. In particular, a big reason for using Bibble is the work queue construct -- essentially a grouping technique which lets me make and maintain groups of any sorts of images I want to sort. So if I want to easily access all my best baseball images, I can just hit the queue. Or if I want to see all images of a particular family, blam, I'm there. Also, during my many stages of editing, work queues keeps me from forgetting what I'm doing (a to-do list of sorts!).To my knowledge,...

Cuban Love Song addendum: Nosotros
2008-03-07 16:58:00 Concerning my Cuban Valentine special, Eduardo Tavel wrote: I believe you should have included "Nosotros' a beautiful love song. I found several instances of the song. The first is from Elena Burke, a sixties singer whom I have to admit to not liking very much. It's not that she's a bad singer; I just don't find any of her songs particularly interesting- they have a sort of lounge-act feel to them. I'll put it here anyways in case that's the one Mr. Tavel was talking about. 100 Canciones Cubanas Del Milenio Better is the Cha cha-bolero from Orquesta Aragon. Rival Cha cha group Fajardo has a live version. Mambo Inspiracin Fajardo: The only albums my mother owned were by Lucho Gatica, a Chilean singer popular in the fifties. He sings in the hyper-romantic Latin-American style distinguishable by its breathiness. A nice, guitar-driven song called Nosotros showed up in my search. Coleccion SupremaPowered by b2evolution.

Simplicity Addendum
2008-02-19 16:48:00 I was reading in The Bruised Reed this morning, and this quote from Sibbes summarizes perfectly what I was trying to say yesterday:"Preachers should take heed likewise that they hide not their meaning in dark speeches, speaking in the clouds. Truth fears nothing so much as concealment, and desires nothing so much as to be laid open to the view of all. When it is most unadorned, it is most lovely and powerful."- p. 25

Short Sale Addendum Protects Buyers
2008-01-30 00:01:00 The California Association of Realtors added a short sale addendum to the required forms in November of 2007. So far, this is one of the best forms I have seen and goes a long way in protecting a buyer's rights while buying a home in California. For one thing, it limits the amount of time a buyer has to wait to hear back from the lender's approval - "the short sale contingency period." If the lender doesn't respond during this period, the buyer can walk out of the escrow.Secondly, the addendum expressly states that all timeline begin after the approval from the seller's lender. This protects the buyer's security deposit from getting deposited into escrow before approval. The short sale addendum should put a lot of buyers' worries regarding short sales at ease.

Quarterly Financial s: Addendum End of Year
2007-12-12 14:14:00 This morning it dawned on me that while Quarterly Personal Financial Reports are very important as a communication tool, the most important report you can create is a Yearly breakdown of your Personal Finances for your spouse and who(m)ever else you want to communicate this information to. Yearly Personal Finance Report You need to think what exactly needs to be in this report, because it is easy to “kitchen sink” the report and put way too much information in it, so that your spouse becomes confused and/or loses interest in the message you are sending. The advantage you have if you have done quarterly reports, you already know what is going on, but summing up the year may take a little more work on your part and some of the more interesting things you could show in this report would be: The progress you have made paying down your large debts like: Your Mortgage Automobile Loans Student Loans Credit Card debt How your retirement savings have grown over the year How ...

AdSense Addendum
2007-09-26 03:23:00 Well, it seems that someone is finally getting it. Oh, I guess I shouldn't say that. I'm sure "The Black Hand" was aware of this for a while. But he(?)'s right. A lot of bloggers don't think about demographics when they put their blogs together.I know I've consulted with lots of you about this, stressing when to use the product as your primary sell and when to use AdSense.Personally, my feelings on this are: if your demographic is younger, push products. Why? Because Grandma is less likely to have her credit card handy than Junior is. In fact, Grandma is less likely to own a credit card. And it's hard to do business online without a credit card. So, push information for the older demographics and push products for the younger ones.'Nuff said. Please visit http://money-for-blogs.blogspot-.com for more information.
A Fishy Addendum
2007-09-15 02:46:00 In my Schrodinger’s Bat column yesterday we updated our look at plate discipline by showing the leaders and trailers in four new metrics (Square, Fish, Bad Ball, and Eye) based on pitch location data from PITCHf/x. In addition to the leader boards we also included plots of Eye versus Fish and segemented hitters into four quadrants in order to provide a rough characterization of the continuum of approaches to plate discipline. Not long after publication several readers noticed and gently let me know that the plots didn’t actually include all hitters due to the axes being scaled a little short thereby cutting out some of the more interesting hitters including Derek Jeter, Matt Holliday, and Vladimir Guerrero. And so in the interests of completeness here are the updated plots for all right and left-handed hitters. You’ll notice that these plots may differ slightly for some players since they are based on a few more days worth of data. A second question raised by sev...

2007-09-01 10:14:00 The day: 24th August 2007, Dinner. The place: 1 Seething Lane, London, EC3N 4AX (020-7977 9500)The venue: Addendum RestaurantThe food: Modern French/FusionThe drinks: Short but very interesting, a few samples from each of several main producing wine areas in the world. Some options by the glass. City prices. This time we decided to venture into the City of London, often land of soulless and forgettable corporate expense account dining venues. Why? Two reasons, really. First, we wished to take advantage of a tantalising offer of 50% discount on the food bill, found online (with the City half closed in August, they must be a little desperate... and so they get people like us instead of smartly dressed business people). But bad food is expensive even at 50% of the price. We were also intrigued by the statement on their webpage:'We've broken with tradition to create a destination restaurant and bar where the accent is on fresh ingredients, imaginative presentation, an intimate atmosph...

Parable of the Sower Addendum
2007-08-16 07:25:00 Here's the link to the original post "The Parable of the Sower""Does it mean that those who are not yet deeply rooted in Christ, who are still babes in Christ, are not going to heaven until they become more firmly grounded in Him?""But what about those who die when they are still babe's and have not yet become firmly rooted? What is your definition of firmly rooted? "PROFESSIONProfession: The act of professing; avowal; a declaration, whether true or false. http://www.dictionary.com/The Parable of the Sower defines four types of people who have heard the Word of God (seed). Three of them are "hearers", producing no "fruit" as a result. One is a "doer", producing "fruit" as a result. The fact that those who profess belief in Christ is categorized along with the unbeliever says a LOT in that fact alone. (The category of being unfruitful.) While their profession may be genuine in and of itself, it does not necessarily mean their faith is genuine as well. The book of James is a wonderf...

Game of the Week Addendum: Opening Day
2007-04-04 02:10:00 A few points I that didn’t make my report from yesterday’s game at Yankee Stadium: Guilty Thought of the Day: Usually, the Yankees punctuate their Opening Day extravaganzas with some aerial pyrotechnics–a flyby by the Blue Angels, fly-in by Challenger the Bald Eagle, stuff like that. I thought I’d missed it this time out, and couldn’t figure out how–maybe I was inside the stadium trying to get to my seats when it happened?–until the video tribute to Corey Lidle started. Then I started thinking that maybe, with Lidle’s widow and son in attendance, someone figured that it wouldn’t be a good time for low-altitude stunt aviation. Not good times. Best Moment of the Day: With not only Lidle, but remembrances for Bowie Kuhn and Hank Bauer at the beginning of the program, things were pretty somber at the Stadium to start the day. So when the Stadium video screen started on a tribute to Bobby Murcer, who was diagnosed with brain cancer le...

An Addendum: Pictures from Bosnia
2007-03-16 12:51:00 In support of the theme of Sarajevo and art and photography which these articles revolve around I managed to drag out a few more survivors from my first period of exile there. Scanty representation for a year's worth of experiences but because of the case I thought that these should definitely be included. The picture of a view through a bombed out ruin toward the sounthern mountain range of Sarajevo was made in our neighborhood of Kobilja Glava.I profess to not knowing the name of this massive cemetery from which I found so much inspiration and which is pictured often from this time. These are two sketches of it, one from the front entrance where there is a bus stop and one more intimate from a secret backside through a break in the fence. These pictures illustrate an interesting characteristic of Sarajevo and that is it's variable/volatile weather conditions. Clouds are glorious and can become ominous in moments from each other. Drama!
Inspiration & Devotionals :: Addendums and Supplements
2007-03-09 14:04:00 Author: Eric Subject: Addendums and Supplements Posted: Fri Mar 09, 2007 8:04 am (GMT -5) Addendums and Supplements Jill Carattini I was born into the world fifteen days before Christmas--a nativity scene of our own. And while I have always insisted that the proprietors of December birthdays are easily neglected, I have always secretly loved being one of them. The spirit of Christmas is a part of my own. Last year we celebrated by going to the Nutcracker, a perfectly Christmas-like birthday present. I hadn't seen the performance for years but I remembered it with childlike abandon, and I was thoroughly ready to enjoy it once again. Needless to say, I was deflated to discover that the producers had opted to change what I so vividly remembered. Instead of live music they chose to pipe in the classic Tchaikovsky concertos via sound system. Instead of an orchestra, they added more seats. It was an addendum that took so much more away than it added. I imagine the only one more di...
Addendum to "Nature/Nurture"
2007-02-12 02:34:00 (and in response to the comment from "Anxiety 2 Calm" in my previous post)Genetics is one of many factors influencing the development of mental illness. Whether someone develops a mental illness based on genetics alone is debatable and I would bet rare. Not everyone with a predisposition to mental illness will develop it. However, we can’t ignore that there are family patterns of mental illness. They could develop from a combination of genetic, environmental and social factors. However, regardless of cause, if a strong family history of mental illness is present, it should be discussed with younger generations. Children/youth should learn how to recognize the symptoms of mental illness for the sake of their own early intervention or for someone they know who is developing symptoms. Thus, knowing one's family history provides the opportunity to instigate change earlier and faster should complications arise. While genetics may be unchangeable how a person deals with mental illne...

2007-01-25 10:14:02 Not to take this into a week of mourning, but this Associated Press article does a great job of eulogizing Kapuscinski. Atonement Addendum: Grudem?s Clarifications and Cautions
2006-12-21 02:11:01 We have recently been explaining (and debating) the Reformed doctrine of particular redemption, also known as definite atonement or more popularly, limited atonement. And while my post on Calvinism and evangelism follows on the heels of that post, it really was in the works before that whole debate started. But since we are talking about Calvinism in general, and limited atonement in particular (no pun intended), I felt we would do well to heed some clarification and caution from Wayne Grudem on this subject. If you are unfamiliar with Wayne Grudem, he is worth getting to know. He is a very influential conservative scholar, of a breed which is sadly becoming all to increasingly rare these days! He takes firm positions on hotly debated topics: he defends God’s sovereignty against open theism, and is a prime mover in the defense of complementarian views against the egalitarian or feminist position [this is the debate over women pastors and male headship in marriage]. He als...
